Romana and her comrades find themselves in the dank and grubby wastelands of northern Gallifrey, trapped between two forces in a long and ancient war.
One side bides their time within their nests, whilst the other draws up troops across the trenches. Both sides have their secrets, their means to win the war – and both want Romana fighting alongside them…
After millennia of warfare, the final assault approaches. The Ancient Enemy and the True Lords want this world. And before this night is out, there will be bloodshed.
Annihilation has always been an interesting one to listen to. Mainly because of the Time-Lord's long, bloody history with the Vampires and the complex of each of the races.
It certainly a gruesome one for audio and I love how they cast Katy Manning for Lady Borusa and getting Geoffrey Beevers for Lord Prydon are such great castings. I love how Scott wrote this and the history-making it somewhat similar to the original Timelord vs Vampires history but making it different at the same time. And I loved how he introduced the Hounds idea and the Brax hound kills me every time because it's such a Brax thing to do because of course he would have nothing else to live for and would die for Gallifrey.
And Leela-Leela getting her sight back and finally seeing Narvin and Romana is wonderful and seeing her in her true element, on the battlefield.
I wont reveal anything else as otherwise, spoilers.
The quest for a new Gallifrey continues... With K-9 guarding the Axis, Romana, Narvin and Leela explore another alternative Gallifrey. This Gallifrey is a muddy wasteland of eternal darkness plagued by a neverending war. Our heroes discover that this is a Gallifrey where the Vampire Wars of Ancient Gallifrey never ended and they have arrived just in time for its end. The war is led by vampire lord Prydon (Geoffrey Beevers) on one side and True Lord leader Borusa (Katy Manning) on the other. A really good story, if a bit dark. Our leads, plus Manning and Beevers are the highlights. The rest of the cast just kind of blends into the background with the exception of Cassandra (Charlie Hayes) who is rather memorable. An enjoyable story and another excellent installment in the Gallifrey saga.
Our heroes find themselves on an alternate Gallifrey where the Time Lords are tied up in the Vampire Wars. Being away from "her" Gallifrey has caused Leela to begin to age, but ingesting vampire blood restores not only her youth but her sight as well. I was a little disappointed at first that Katy Manning wasn't playing an AU Iris Wildthyme, but I grew to enjoy Borusa. This series really is the best so far, in my opinion.
