jenna levine NEVER. MISSES.

i adored this with my whole soul (see what i did there). i read this in literally one sitting, not a single break to be had. this was so wonderful - i adore anything magical realism based, especially to do with the afterlife, so this hit all of my marks. the romance was incredibly sweet, the characters were so easy to root for, and it has the typical jenna levine charm woven into the writing. it made me giggle many times. highly, highly recommend checking this out once it’s released!!!

Lucy really said “can life stop kicking me while I’m down?” and life responded with a literal bus 💀😭

This book somehow managed to be both oddly funny and weirdly emotional at the same time. Underneath the paranormal/grim reaper setup, it’s really a story about two people who feel stuck. Lucy has spent most of her life feeling like she takes up too much space while also never feeling important enough, and Daniel has basically been emotionally rotting for over a century doing a job he hates because of choices he can’t forgive himself for.

And listen… I am usually not an insta-love girlie. This is VERY instant connection heavy. But somehow it worked for me here because neither of them were falling for perfection. They were drawn to the loneliness in each other. It felt less like “we just met and I’m obsessed with you” and more like two exhausted souls finally feeling understood for the first time in forever.

Daniel was probably my favorite part of the whole book though. There was something almost painfully human about him despite literally being a grim reaper. The quiet yearning??? The curiosity about life again??? Him slowly realizing he wants more than just existing??? It really packed a punch!

Overall this felt like a story about finding little pieces of life worth holding onto, even when everything feels heavy. Quietly emotional, oddly comforting, and surprisingly tender beneath all the grim reaper chaos.

Thank you so much to Berkley, NetGalley, and Jenna Levine for this e-arc in exchange for my honest review.

Uplifting and wonderfully heartfelt, Jenna Levine returns with a charming paranormal romance novel about a grim reaper and a woman who wants another chance at living. Lucy McKenzie works as an administrative assistant at Tennessee College. She meets Daniel at a colleague’s retirement party, and an incident occurs, causing Lucy to flee in panic and, unfortunately, get hit by a bus. Daniel is the grim reaper assigned to reap her soul, but Lucy’s desperate pleas not to have her soul obtained lead Daniel to make a bargain with the Agency he works for. When the Agency obliges Daniel’s request to prolong Lucy’s impending death, he is assigned to supervise Lucy’s actions and report back to them. As Lucy and Daniel spend more time together, feelings develop, and they both learn there’s more to life than how they’ve been living it.

Lucy is relatable. She never felt good enough as a daughter, as an older sister, or as a person. Daniel is everything you would want in a significant other and partner. He was dependable, supportive, and reliable. His steadfast belief in Lucy and constant reassurances to her were heartwarming and tender. Whenever Lucy lacked any self-worth or confidence within herself, Daniel was there to negate all thoughts and encourage her to see a different perspective. Likewise, Lucy made Daniel feel alive again. For the first time in over a hundred years of being a grim reaper, Daniel reawakens his human desires. He yearns for human touch, pines for stability, and another chance at life. And with Lucy, Daniel could see that happening. Lucy helps alleviate the guilt that has been burdening Daniel for years. Daniel’s conviction regarding the incident leads him to believe he isn’t a good person, but Lucy provides him with empathetic reassurances to make him see otherwise. Their chemistry was already palpable during their initial meeting and only accelerated as they spent more time together. Lucy's and Daniel’s dynamic and relationship were wholesome, genuine, and vulnerable. Moreover, it was so beautiful to see Lucy’s character growth and Daniel’s vindication.

From vampires to witches to grim reapers, I’ll read anything Jenna Levine writes. This lovely book was comforting and such a tender read. I absolutely enjoyed every second reading it, and I am ecstatic to read everything and anything Levine writes in the future.

Thank you to Berkeley Publishing Group and NetGalley for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I got this book of NetGalley this morning. My review is based on the NetGalley version of this book.

This is my favorite Levine book so far I truly loved this book! I really hope it’s the start of a very fun series where we get to meet more of the corporate overlords of the afterworld!

Daniel hates his job as a reaper, that is until he meets Lucy. Who takes his whole life (or lack of) and flips it completely, when she is suppose to be just another soul he is collecting. Somehow together they convince the corporate overloads of the afterlife to give Lucy some temporary time under Daniel’s supervision. They then have to navigate this new experince together while dealing with their confusing feelings for each other.

This book is so fun. I read the whole thing in one sitting. I am obsessed even now I want to reread it just to go back into this world with Lucy and Daniel! The pacing was perfect, and there was never a dull moment which kept me invested in the book the whole time. I love how just like at the end of all Levine’s books we don’t know exactly what will happen in the future but it’s open and a way that feels hopeful. I also love the Little call to the my vampire series as well. It was so cute. This is my favorite.Jenna Levine so far!

Thank you to Netgalley and Berkely for the eARC!

Look, I am a sucker for any romance that involves Death/ Grim Reapers. The whole Death and the Maiden thing is probably a top tier trope for me so I’ll read just about any book that hits that spot. And I’d say Love You to Death did just that.

Daniel is a Reaper who is deeply exhausted by escorting souls to the Afterlife and living in what I'd call a Corporate American Hellscape. Lucy is a 28 year old woman who feels like she isn’t living her best life. When she dies, Daniel ends up getting her a few more weeks to live so she can see her younger sister get married. And since this is a romance novel, I’m sure you can guess what happens next.

Overall, this was a sweet, quick read with two very likeable leads and just a touch of angst that made me tear up once or twice (To be fair, this is not hard. I cry easily for fictional characters). The romance is a bit insta-lusty/lovey for me, but I think, in this case, it mostly worked. And honestly, as much as I loved Lucy and Daniel’s romance, I think the relationship between Lucy and her sister, Jess, was my favorite part.

A solid 4 out of 5 star read. I can see this being a book I re-read in the future when I want a tiny dollop of spooky with my romance.

Where do I even start with this book?! This was amazing, there is just something about Jenna Levine books that hit different. They have me giggling and kicking my feet and just have such a refreshing humour throughout her books! This book explores death and the afterlife which can be heavy for some people but the story has its lighthearted and funny moments too.

The mmc Daniel is a reaper and it was so interesting to see that play out and the story jumps straight in. The fmc Lucy is his latest ‘customer’ but they are instantly drawn together. I loved the romance in this book. There is also an orange cat up to orange cat activities which is another positive for this book! Also there is a slutty little glasses mention 🤭. If you have read Jenna Levine other series , there is a small Easter egg which I really enjoyed as I loved the my vampires series. Excited to see what Jenna Levine does next! This book was a really quick read for me and will be perfect to read in spooky season when it releases in October 👻

Thank you to NetGalley and Berkeley Publishing for making this ARC available for an early read because I competed it in like...a day. Jenna Levine is best known for her most recent vampire series, but she's now graduated onto creating an entire death corporate industrial complex, and I'm a fan. Her writing remains full of warmth and fun, set in a contemporary voice that is easy to breeze through, while at the same time setting up a series that has potential for more world building. It feels clear to me that she's growing as a writer; whereas the last series was vampires set in the modern world (fish out of water potential), in this one I see her building on that and actually creating a hell dimension ripe for potential. My only qualm with this book is the way it peters out to an ending - it feels like the solution was too easily earned and come by - without a clear explanation or internal logic for why the CEOs behaved or made the decisions the way they did, except to give us that HEA.

Still, a book with a clear "he falls first and harder" trope, as our reaper is simply head over heels, sweet on our FMC the whole way through.

Just when you thought Edward Cullen was the last 100+ year old man you’d fall in love with… Jenna Levine gives us Daniel.

The premise of this book was so intriguing I just couldn’t wait to see what would happen next. I basically read this book in one sitting because I couldn’t put it down.

This is the 4th Jenna Levine novel I have read and it’s my favourite so far. I love her witty, rom-com style writing. The longing, the yearning.

Jenna’s characters are well developed, relatable and lovable. Love You To Death was funny, lighthearted, and very entertaining.

In this book and the My Vampire series, Jenna writes a supernatural world that kind of sits on top of our world, which in my opinion, makes the supernatural world she creates very accessible and fun to read about.

I wonder who else Jenna will create to populate this world?! I loved the little cameo made by a previous couple!

Jenna Levine is one of my favorite authors and I'll never be unbiased. That being said, this was an adorable book.

Humans are not regularly able to barter with reapers. But Daniel goes out a limb with his supervisors. She gets more time to live and wrap up things and he gets to watch her and report on humanity. It's such a fun concept.

I don't think I've read a book like it and that is one of the things that drew me to it on top of it being my favorite author. Lucy, while thinking she's a screw up all of the time, is so human and relatable it almost hurts. Daniel is just so sweet without trying to be. He'd probably be mortified knowing someone saw him that way. Everyone just deserved a big hug and that's one of Levine's strengths, writing stories that are cozy with characters you just end up loving.

I couldn't put it down and I'm only disappointed that the book is over and now what? I have to wait for the release like a regular person?

Thank you Netgalley for the ARC!

Thank you to Netgalley and Jenna Levine for letting me to read this book
And read this book I did
It only took a few hours (I’m a fast reader) and everything about this love story (HEA) sucked me in.
Lucy- girl who messes up all the time - relatable as f to me
Daniel - perfect mmc. Tall dark handsome and the Grim Reaper
The corporate setting of the afterlife *chefs kiss*
The ending!?!?! 😱😱

This is one of those books where I can literally see it play out in my mind over and over again and I really hope that one day it can be a movie on the big screen.
Me hoping for Logan Lerman to play Daniel 🤞

I’m just a fan of cozy/romantic/couldn’t put it down type of supernatural/paranormal romantic happily ever after story.

Not gonna lie the epilogue is making me think there’s a sequel coming? 👀🤞 Making my hopes come true!

Everyone should read this and enjoy 🥰

Thank you NetGalley for the advanced copy! This was my first Jenna Levine book and I loved it! Lucy is such a relatable character with her mismatched house and her inability to decide on a job or a hobby! I loved that she sounded like a regular person. Then you have Daniel. Oh man! Also relatable in that he was dealt a bad hand and is punished for eternity... or is he 😉
I loved the humour, I loved the perspective on what happens after death, and I loved the open ending where things are resolved but not finished. What a great read!

3.5 I really liked a lot about this book. I’m not a huge fan of insta love but it made it work. Lucy and Daniel were cute together and the world building where the people in charge of death are living their worst office politics lives was pretty funny. The ending tied everything up a little too nicely but an enjoyable read overall.

Jenna Levine's books have been on my TBR for some time and just haven't found my way to them, yet! So, when I saw this new book available, I jumped for the chance to read it! Daniel and Lucy were so cute together! I loved that he saw her soul for the truly vibrant rainbow that it was and she was ultimately able to use that beautiful spirit to her advantage.

I've been dying (pun intended) for this book since it was first announced! "Love You to Death" by Type O Negative has been stuck in my head for months because of it.

So excited I just got an ARC for it! 🤩🤩🤩 The three My Vampires books were so much fun, and I'm sure I'll enjoy this one just as much! Reading and reviewing very soon....

I’ve loved everything Jenna has written. It’s exactly this kind of content I want, romance with fantasy. Grim reaper romances are niche genre that I love and this one is no different. I literally couldn’t put it down and read it in one sitting.
