Some of the reviews took off stars for misspelled words and grammar errors. Please remember that you are reading an advance copy of the book and the errors will be corrected in the final book. This book's title is all wrong; it should be something with the river and pond in it, like The River at Briarhallow or The Dukes Hunted Pond. This is the best story I've read in years, which is saying a lot as I read about two hundred books a year. If you are only going to read one book this year, make it this one. Both Rian, the duke of Briarhallow and Juliette an orphan who feels she is a nobody both need saving. Rian is lost in the past, haunted by the loss of his mother and the loss of the men he was unable to save during the war. Juliette has learned to do what needs to be done and ask questions later. She is outspoken to a fault, talks all the time and is incorrigible just what a reclusive, scarred duke need. She needs to be loved and needed. Someone who see the man behind the mask he wears and will take him to task for not eating and sleeping. The banter between is wonderful, funny and sometimes very sexy too. You will cry, laugh out loud and be furious with relatives who only care about what society thinks, not about our couple. I could say a lot about this wonderful story, but you need to read the events and find the growth and passion within yourself. So many twists and turns, secrets and misunderstandings too. Run, don’t wait and get started; you will not be sorry. I can’t wait for the next book. I received an ARC from the author and wish to thank her. This is my honest opinion and am freely giving it.

The overall story is an excellent premise and I enjoyed the twist on the commoner/gentry trope. Juliette is refreshingly brash and self-confident, Rian is broken, broody, and in want of someone who will stand up to him and his self destructive tendencies. It’s a perfect conflagration for a historical romance.

While this was an arc copy and I realize that it likely had not been through a final round of edits before being given to ARC readers, there are multiple errors where entire paragraphs were bisected and then repeated, as well as confusion about certain side characters with similar names and their position with the small society surrounding Briarhollow. They served to pull me out of the story whilst I tried to sort things out.

My thanks to the author for the gift of an ARC copy. All opinions are my own and freely given.

This is a story that may inspire you that you can rise above the circumstances you may find yourself in. Juliette Morin has always felt that she is no one having grown up in an orphanage and hardly knowing anything about her parents. She is working as an unpaid seamstress when she decides to quit her job after an argument with her boss and and go swimming in the river on the land of the Duke of Briarhallow. Juliette has been doing this for three years and never had an issue. That is until today when the Duke comes upon in the river. The Duke has been called a beast in part from the scars of his time at war and the other due to his brooding mood. What will happen now? Is there any chance the duke might need a seamstress? Will Juliette ever find out about her parents and what happened to them? You will need to read this story to find this out and more.

An Enjoyable Read With Some Charming Moments.

Tamed by the Beast of Briarhallow
I really enjoyed this story. Duke Rian and Juliette were from very different social backgrounds but love sometimes has a way of transcending rules within society.
I liked Juliette's calm approach to the many difficulties she faced. Rian, on the other hand, was so in love that his behaviour at times was amusing. He had very serious moments when he remembered the war and the effect it had on his men but whenever Juliette was around he was light-hearted and charming. I liked the way the staff rallied around the couple and how Rian's men turned up to support their captain. This was an enjoyable read with some charming moments.

The storyline of this book was phenomenal. I loved the characters and the world building was on point. The connection and the bather between the MCs was done very well. Juliette was so sassy and just amazing. I loved her for her attitude. She was a presence in this book. Rian was not what I was expecting to be honest. He’s fierce and intense in all things. He tries to hide away, and Juliette refuses to let him hide from her. The ending is perfect for what became of the story. I enjoyed reading this.
