The Forgotten Garden: A Children’s Chapter Book About Kindness, Teamwork and the Magic of Pollinators by G Pa Rhymes is another charming story from G Pa, and it shines with all the qualities young readers love. The Forgotten Garden is an adventure complete with riddles and rhymes that make the journey even more delightful.

This beautifully illustrated tale captivates children with its playful rhyming prose and bright, colourful artwork. Perfect for ages 6–9, it’s the kind of book that invites kids to explore each page with learning, curiosity and joy. G Pa’s unique and vibrant characters, brought to life through Erica Leigh’s lively illustrations, create a world that feels both magical and meaningful.

And, as with all of G Pa’s stories, there’s more here than just a fun adventure. A gentle message — a lesson wrapped in whimsy — is woven throughout the chapters, giving young readers something to carry with them long after the story ends.

This is a wonderful book, and a must-have for homes, schools, and libraries. It’s uplifting, imaginative, and full of heart — a story that encourages kindness while sparking a love for nature and its tiny pollinating heroes.

If you have read any of the G Pa Rhymes books you will recognize many of the characters in this story. A delightful children's book for young readers with G Pa and his friends exploring a forgotten garden and the many insects, birds and animals you find that help in the garden.

I thought this was wonderful in explaining the cycle for plants to grow. I think it opens a narrative with kids and learn something along the way.

‘Open the gate. Follow the clues. Help the garden bloom again.’

The Forgotten Garden by G Pa Rhymes is a charming children’s chapter book perfect for readers aged six to nine years old (but I am wayyyyyy older and enjoyed reading this with my grandson). Having enjoyed the ‘Adventures of Cray’ series, we happily set off on this adventure to see what Grandpa and his friends got up to.
Being a chapter book, this story only had a few small illustrations sprinkled though the book instead of on every page like the ‘Cray’ books do. But the story was engrossing and the few illustrations helped to bring the story to life.
This great little story had some important lessons to learn too - imparting information such as social-emotional skills, the benefits of teamwork, showing kindness, being responsible, the importance of nature, how to nurture a garden, making friends, environmental messages, gardening tips, the pollination process, the life cycle of a plant, critical thinking, and problem solving – as well as encouraging curiosity, a sense of community, and having compassion.
Grandpa who is joined on the adventure by characters we know and love from the ‘’Adventures of Cray” series – Cray (the crab), Hay (the fox), Fay (the turtle), and Ray (the seagull) ---- who then all get to meet/make some new friends along the way – Webbington (the spider), Shade (the Crow), Wiggy (aka Wiggles Wingsworth III – the caterpillar), Buzz Beasley (the Bee), Salty Nutkins (the squirrel), Farmer Jay, and Nate and Pearl.
There were plenty of rhyming verses sprinkled throughout the book which led grandpa and friends along on their quest to find ‘The Forgotten Garden’, by providing clues in the form of riddles to solve – which added an extra element of interest and fun to the story.
Educational. Fun. Interesting. A wonderful cast of animal friends. Cute story. Well worth the read.
Happy Reading…

The Forgotten Garden: A Children's Chapter Book About Kindness, Teamwork and the Magic of Pollinators The Forgotten Garden: A Children's Chapter Book About Kindness, Teamwork and the Magic of Pollinators by G Pa Rhymes

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is the first book I have read by G Pa Rhymes. I wasn't really sure what to expect at first, but I was pleasantly surprised. This is a short chapter book that is great for kids that are just stepping out of picture books and into chapter books. The rhyming was catchy, the book provides great mini social emotional lessons for children around kindness, nature, responsibility and teamwork. The Forgotten Garden is full of relatable characters. The creatures in the garden are so loveable that you can't help but wish they were real and you were exploring the garden with them. I love that this book connected back to nature, I feel like nature's beauty is so often forgotten. This book was such a fun, unique, and beautiful portrayal that I hope to see children wanting to connect to nature after reading it.

G’ Pa Rhymes has written a wonderful book that highlights the value of nature, teamwork, and community.

Rhymes dreams about a garden, but goes about his day on the boardwalk. He is looking forward to seeing his grandsons, who will be visiting soon. While at the beach, he and his animal friends discover a bottle with a message about a forgotten garden. Is this connected to his dream? Of course, he and his friends venture far from the boardwalk and come upon a long, forgotten garden. They find some clues regarding the garden hidden within it. He and his friends decide to bring this special garden back to life.

This book is ideal for readers who are ready for more than picture books. It shares important messages about teamwork and community, and also teaches about caring for the environment and the role of pollinators. Like his other books, it features beautiful illustrations.

I even learned a few new things myself. For example, I didn’t know that adding seaweed to a garden provides important minerals. The book also includes a wonderful chart of a plant’s life cycle, with helpful explanations of pollinators and their roles.

I’ve enjoyed G Pa Rhymes’s books for younger readers for a long time, so I was excited to read his first book for older kids. I loved the rhymes and clues, and it was great to see familiar characters from “The Adventures of Cray” along with some new faces. I hope he writes more chapter books in the future.

When things feel big, start small

The Forgotten Garden is a wonderful story to fuel little one’s imaginations with some lyrical rhyming mixed in the storyline with a few pictures included throughout. It’s an easy chapter book for kids just getting used to reading bigger books.

G’ Pa Rhymes is the storyteller of Boardwalk Beach. He and his friends, Cray the crab, Fox Hay, Gull Ray, and Turtle Fay go on an adventure into the woods with help from the Friendship Express to find a long forgotten treasure that’s been kept a secret. What happens on the adventure? They meet some interesting critters along the way that helps guide them along the journey.

Wonderfully executed teaching moments woven throughout with a nice diagram of the life cycle of a plant at the end. All together this book blended teamwork and teaching about plants and gardening perfectly without children realizing that they were learning even though they didn’t realize it at first. My two oldest littles (9 & 8) enjoyed this book and giggled throughout it. Definitely a great read.

G Pa Rhymes takes his readers on adventure that stretches from the beach to the forest. Along the way, through both rhyme/rap and prose, he introduces us to a wide variety of delightful creatures. Cray the crab with a missing claw, Turtle Fay, Fox Hay and Gull Ray begin the journey with G Pa after discovering a bottle containing a key and mysterious message about a garden fallen into disrepair that needs “young hearts to lend a hand”.

At 110 pages and meant for ages 6-9, this is a child’s Chapter Book. There are a number of lovely sketch pictures by Erica Leigh, but the emphasis is on the story and the ability of the child to tackle longer texts. Life lessons such as teamwork, empathy, kindness, environmental responsibility and developing community are themes throughout The Forgotten Garden (you’ll love the bees!). Parents of youngsters may be familiar with some of G Pa’s characters from his illustrated children’s books, so The Forgotten Garden serves as a natural progression for children who are stretching their reading skills. Definitely a 5-star read.

The Forgotten Garden by G. Pa Rhymes is a charming and meaningful early chapter book that blends gentle mystery with heartfelt lessons about nature and teamwork. When a mysterious message leads to an abandoned garden, a kindhearted grandpa and his animal companions embark on an adventure filled with riddles, discovery, and cooperation. Rhymes creates an inviting story that encourages young readers to think critically while nurturing curiosity about pollinators, environmental care, and community responsibility. The rhythmic storytelling and returning familiar characters make the transition from picture books to chapter books both engaging and confidence-building for developing readers. Warm, thoughtful, and purpose-driven, The Forgotten Garden is a delightful read that inspires children to care for both the natural world and one another. As a nature loving person myself, this sparked the child in me, the gardener in me, and the animal lover in me. It’s a must have in your library if you have children and an easy, fun read!

Grandpa and his merry band of animal friends must follow clues and riddles to find the secret behind the forgotten garden and bring it back to life.

This was such a lovely read. So lighthearted and whimsical. Reminded me of some of my favourite books from childhood. I especially liked the little poems that came up throughout. These would be great to read to young children, and the rhymes are easy enough that the kids could probably learn and repeat them themselves. Definitely think this would be perfect for children ages 6-9. The illustrations are also amazing and add so much to the story. I also thought the host of animals that grand-pa had were so cute!

I recommend this to anyone who is looking for a new story to buy for a young child. Though I previously said that this could be a good book for children ages 6-9, I do think that you could probably read it to younger children, and they would get just as much enjoyment.

This author is definitely a favorite in our household! Even though my kids enjoy reading by themselves, we always read these books together. My younger kiddo would prefer everything to be in graphic novel format, but this was a nice replacement to get him into more chapter books. Something I love about this book (as well as others by G Pa Rhymes) is the life lessons that are built in. If you’ve read the Adventures of Cray Series already, you’ll recognize some of the characters while also getting to meet new friends. It was fun to read the riddles and have my kids guess at what’s going to happen next. Having such an emphasis on important things such as kindness, responsibility, finding solutions, and even learning about science/environment topics is great and very intriguing for my family. I think this would make a beautiful addition to just about any household, library, or classroom you could dream of.

The Forgotten Garden: A Children’s Chapter Book About Kindness, Teamwork and the Magic of Pollinators By G Pa Rhymes

The Forgotten Garden is a wonderfully written children’s book about kindness, working together and the magic of Pollinators. My son is almost eight and he’s really getting into chapter books and he loved reading this book. We started out taking turns reading but he took over and finished reading outlook. I love the attention to detail and the fact that this author put in valuable information that teaches kids things like, sharing, being responsible and kindness and the kids don’t realize that by reading this story the life lessons they just gained. I highly recommend reading this book to find out what happens next . My son and I love this author and look forward to reading more soon.

This book is a wonderful children’s story, combining a collection of fantastic characters as they embark on an adventure to find a forgotten garden. The book is perfect for those who are just starting on chapter books. It is easy to read but so engaging for its intended audience, making it feel like they are on the adventure with the characters. The small illustrations scattered throughout the book really help bring it to life, making it easy to imagine the characters.
The story is a really lovely story that shows what friendship can achieve. Although this is for a younger audience, I still found it really easy to become invested in what was happening. It was great to see the return of familiar characters, but in a different fashion. This was a truly enjoyable story.

I did not realize that this was a series of books, you can absolutely read it as a standalone, but once you finish this one, you are going to want to go check out the other books as well. I absolutely enjoyed this story, it is a good starter chapter book for someone who is working on expanding their reading. I enjoyed how they all worked together as a team to find the garden, as well as the messages about trust, teamwork, and kindness. The author’s use of light illustrations made the book an easier transition from picture books to chapter books. The science information was presented in a way that is fun and easy for kids to understand. This was a wonderful book and I absolutely recommend it!

The Forgotten Garden by G Pa Rhymes. This is a great book for kids transitioning from picture books to chapter books. The best age range would be 6 to 10. I love this children's author so I knew it would be a great book and even though it is a series you can read them as stand alones! On this fun adventure along with Grandpa we meet up again with Cray, Hay, Fay and Ray all animals we met in previous books along with a bunch of new characters such as Webbington the spider and many others. The story is about kindness and working together along with the magic of pollination. Teamwork, kindness and trust are valuable lessons in this story along with the mystery of some science stuff. Such a great story book for middle age kids. Great as a gift for the child in your life!

The Forgotten Garden is an adventurous story for children who love nature and wordplay. Full of playful characters and fun poems, it's an enchanting story that will inspire young readers to get stuck into gardening, and maybe write some poems of their own!

Something I really loved about the main character, G’ Pa Rhymes, is how much he's looking forward to a visit from his grandchildren! This would make it a great book for children to share with their grandparents, and use as a starting point to talk about what they enjoy doing together.

The Forgotten Garden gets four stars from me. I would recommend it to independent readers who enjoy chapter books, but it would also be a good book to read out loud as a family!

I really like this book for kiddos who are ready to move up from reading picture books to smaller chapter books. I love the whimsical nature that Rhymes writes in and how he is able to just envelope his readers with his storytelling. This book will have you laughing and learning all at the same time. This book is not only perfect for parents who want to instill reading confidence in their kiddos but also teamwork, kindness, and responsibility while also promoting environmental stewardship and conservation and applying critical thinking skills but it's perfect for teachers too. This would be a great classroom read as it is educational while being fun and whimsical. This is definitely one you want to add to your bookshelves!

Once again this author has impressed me. This is a chapter book filled with rhymes, critters and G Pa. We really enjoyed this fast paced story. The riddles, the adventure and the characters we met along the way. Growing a garden is so much fun when you have a rhyme and a riddle. The adventure just added to the fun. The story also holds interesting facts about gardening. The children will love the introduction to starting a new garden. The chance to watch the circle of plant life and the eating of our labor. This author sure knows how to keep children interested in his stories. My grandchildren and I truly enjoyed reading this book. We also look forward to planting our garden this spring.

What a sweet book! Reading all of G Pa Rhymes’ books with Cray, Hay, Fay and Ray, it was really fun to see them in this book, all working together to find the forgotten garden. They meet some cute friends along the way, Wiggy, Salty and more. It was so fun and imaginative to watch the crew go through the woods and have to solve rhymes to pass through. I love that Nate and Pearl got to see the garden back up and running, and passed onto someone else to care for it. Some great things to learn in here too, like bee’s pollinating, how seeds can turn into fruits, vegetables and flowers, and how bugs and nature all work together to thrive.

The Forgotten Garden by G’ Pa Rhymes
This is an adorable story about a group of misfit animals and a special human who go on an adventure together to help save a forgotten garden. These friends learn patience, teach lessons to others with rhymes, and work together.
I really love the combination of the story writing style and the inserted rhymes along the way. The pictures are nicely illustrated and do not detract from the story itself. The characters/creatures are well developed and I like that they are not perfect. They all have their own little struggles. I also like the rhyming in the names. This is a wonderful story for a strong young reader and I will gladly recommend it.

Anytime I pick up a G Pa Rhymes book, I know I'm in for a great story! This one was a little longer than others I have read but it's such a fun adventure to be on! G Pa Rhymes and his friends from the Boardwalk find a bottle with a note in it. They soon discover that there is a Forgotten Garden that needs attention. They spend some time locating this garden and along the way picking up new friends and solving riddles.

This is a great book to read aloud to younger ones or would be a great nighttime chapter read for a budding reader. There are a lot of rhymes and riddles and we see the characters from other books come into the scene.

A very enticing read for kids who have stepped into chapter books, The forgotten garden has some lyrical rhymes, a neat story line and few pictures with some nice morale packed into it.
The book takes the readers on an adventure from a beach to a forest. A bunch of friends set out on a journey to go to the woods to find a treasure which is long forgotten. They meet few critters along the way and with some great teamwork learn about environment and the life cycle of a plant. This book blends relationship skills along with science very beautifully. Young readers will love this book. I would definitely recommend it.

The Forgotten Garden is wonderfully written and engaging. This story is an adventure to find a forgotten garden. This story incorporates some poems and rhymes to help the characters work as a team to find the garden.
The Forgotten Garden also teaches responsibility of starting a garden and how the garden is a joy for not only humans, but animals, insects and birds as well.
This book is for younger children. While my grandchildren are too small to read on their own, this book wonderful addition to our family library. We will add more from this author to our collection!

After Rosie came up missing the Search and Rescue Team were called to look for her. Sabrina and her team were unable to find her. Someone else came up missing and the team was called to give up their search for her and look for the newly lost. Rosie's trail had gone cold. Detective Anthony Donovan was never the same and did not give up searching for Rosie who was his daughter.

Everytime Sabrina and her team went out they were constantly searching for Rosie as well. This book was so good that it had me on the edge of my seat . Check out the book I think you will like it too.

This book is a great introduction to chapter books for children transitioning from picture books. One thing I especially like about this book is many of the main characters are repeats from many of G Pa Rhymes's other books. This would make branching from picture to chapter even easier. As always there are lessons in the story everyone can benefit from, working together, perseverance, and problem solving just to name a few.
The book is well written and easy to follow. The spots of rhymes the author is known for are present yet not over done. This is a book I would recommend to others.

A wonderful book that can be read alone by an older child or shared by a patent with their children. A message in a bottle and a shiny key lead a group of friends in search of a forgotten garden. Along the way they face many challenges. Riddles from a skunk. A spider and her web. A noisy crow. All along the way the friends work together to face the challenges both big and small. Not only does the book tell an enchanting story, it teaches children a valuable lesson about plants and the importance of pollinators.

This book was such a cute story geared toward beginning chapter readers ages 6 to 10. Many books for young children have been those with great messages and learning opportunities. The Forgotten Garden has done just that by creating such imagery through Grandpa, a genuine nature lover, and his loyal animal friends. There are problems to solve, and the book keeps the readers curious and eager to learn. With its touch of magic and spreading of kindness is a reading pick for many young readers and families to enjoy!

Love G Pa Rhymes. My younger son and I love ready G Pa Rhymes books together, and this one was extra fun as he was able to use it for school for his daily reading since it was a chapter book. The crew was back in this little mystery for young readers that have moved on from picture books. My son loved the mystery, and it was hard to keep him limited daily than to let him read it all in one sitting. Cannot wait to see what this incredible author does next.

What a great read, especially for children (and adults) that have read the picture books with similar cadence, rhymes, and lighthearted (but big messages) fun. Loved the illustrations and how this book expands the age range of children whom would be interested. Love how the natural and scientific world is seamlessly included in the story as well.
