Huben explores the reign of Frederick II's grandfather, Roger II of Sicily. Roger is examined as a ruler over the dual cultures of east and west, in a study which encompasses dynastic, political and cultural events in the complex world of Mediterranean affairs. German text.
Solid book that accomplishes the difficult job of portraying Roger the man, telling the story of his times, and explaining the rise and establishment of the Kingdom of Sicily. The historiographical beginning is especially useful , although one wishes that the same sort of attention was given to the sources.
