When Camila reluctantly moves to her home state of Washington, she returns for one reason to be near her estranged mother after her health scare and, hopefully, mend their relationship. She expects loneliness—not a rain-soaked rescue of a stray cat, and certainly not a chance encounter with a kind, soft-spoken veterinarian who becomes her first friend in a place she swore she’d never call home again.
Valeria has spent years clinging to a love that breaks her. She’s justified every misstep, endured every storm, and told herself leaving would hurt more than staying. But after one especially explosive argument, she’s done—determined to heal a heart she doesn’t think will recover.
What begins as an easy friendship between Camila and Valeria unfolds into something neither of them is prepared for. Through laughter, tender moments, and unwavering support, the two discover that the most unforgettable love stories aren’t always the loud, fiery ones . . . sometimes they’re the gentle, patient ones that sneak up on you.
4.5 ⭐️ Gomez did an amazing job portraying a toxic relationship; the prologue was simply heartbreaking. She didn't break Brooke and Valeriana up quickly to make space for Camila. For a good part of the book, Valeriana is still in that awful on and off relationship, and I really understood her being stuck even if It can be hard to read or even triggering for some readers. It was a delicate balance between writing the story of Brooke and Valeriana reaching its breaking point and the friendship between Valeriana and Camila blooming into something strong, safe, so sweet, then turning into love. I loved every minute of it, and you need to prepare yourself for an extra slow burn. The "plot twist" from their past was a bit hard for me to believe, and I didn't think it was necessary as their relationship was already beautiful. Camila is just perfect, thoughtful, and caring, and I fell a bit in love with her. I haven't read book two yet, and it just got high in my TBR because I really got attached to the gang.
I was lucky enough to receive an e-ARC from Tatiana Gomez. Here’s my honest review:
I really loved Valeria and Camila’s characters. Valeria is an absolute sweetheart, as soon as I learned she was a vet she won me over. Camila was so steady and lovely, her patience won me over, especially with how sincere she was in her support of Valeria.
Brooke’s character was awful. Gomez did a fantastic job of depicting a toxic, manipulative relationship. Oh my goodness, she did every manipulative thing she could. Gifts as apologies, using her trauma to negate her behaviour, constantly demanding to know where Valeria was and who she was with. It was honestly frightening, and then the physicality of her character! It was very well written.
I especially loved Gomez’s writing when Valeria and Camila started to become friends, because their yearning was so gorgeously written. I loved how cute they were together, I loved how they were so drawn together. They genuinely had their invisible string moment and I loved that for them.
The only note I have is that sometimes the tense was a little awkward. This could have been because I was reading an uncorrected proof. Sometimes it felt like the present tense was used even to describe things that happened in the past. It was a small issue though, and easily overlooked once you were deep into the story.
Thank you to Tatiana Gómez for sending me an e-arc!
Last First Date is an incredibly soft Lesbian romance with some really hard themes and topics related to abuse within romantic relationships.
Valerie has been in an in-and-out relationship with her toxic partner Brooke for 6 years. Relearning to love without fear is difficult but her new friendship with Camila teaches her about the safety and comfort that is fostered in a loving and intimate relationship. Camila and Valerie have more in common than anyone they've ever met, as their friendship over time makes them grow closer so do their feelings for one another.
I loved the slow-burn within this book, especially within Val's story. We needed to see her grow comfortable within her own to really watch her fall in love with a partner that is patient understand and supportive.
Camila is everything, she is patient, loving, and unafraid to commit. Her first interaction with Val, Camila is well aware that Val isn't available for a romantic relationship and she is 100% there without any expectations. She listens and she provides Val a friendship that is vulnerable.
Val and Camila's commitment to forming a friendship above everything and taking the time to build something towards long lasting really makes you root for there relationship.
I think Tatiana really does a great job at developing these characters within and out of a relationship. And showcases the importance of healing through love.
If you are sensitive to topics of partner-related abuse (physical and emotional), homophobia, and animal-related accident (Miso is alive and ok). Please take care of yourselves!
What a beautiful book. I’ve been rooting for Valeria to have her own love story—one that is gentle, sweet, safe, and healthy—since I first met her in Last First Love. And I couldn’t have asked for a better one than the love she found with Camila.
While this is book three, this story can be read as a standalone. There’s plenty of cameos from past characters that are fun to see, but this story still stands strongly on its own.
While the tone is on the lighter side, there are some heavy topics in this one. A strained relationship with a homophobic parent and an abusive ex being two of the big ones. I appreciated how delicately and authentically these topics were handled.
This is a slowww burn. Which was a great choice given Valeria needed time to heal. I enjoyed experiencing these two move from strangers to friends to something more. And, of course, the star of the show that brought them together: Miso. What an adorable little cat.
Overall, I absolutely loved this one and recommend it!
Thank you to the author for an advanced copy of this book.
Oh my god the patience and the love in this book!!!! This was so heartbreaking yet so beautiful. I’ve been waiting for Valeria’s book since the first book in the series. I was waiting for her to finally be happy and gosh Camila is perfect for her!!! She is so caring, and so sweet. This book melted my heart. I could not put it down!!
Thank you so much to the wonderful author, Tatiana, for giving me an ARC. I love this series so so much.
4.5 ⭐️ it’s such a niche trope but strangers to friends to lovers is my absolute favorite so I really loved watching the characters build up a friendship before we got into the romance…. Then when we got into the romance 😏 it was so good 🤭
We know and love the friend group in this series so I was interested to see how this new character would fit into their dynamic but she honestly feels like she was meant for this group. She deserved this found family 🥹
This book also had me sobbing with trauma. There was some DV and abusive relationship triggers so please beware. There is healing from that and family healing ❤️🩹
Overall I’m sad this series has come to and end so it’s bittersweet but I’m so happy I read this series 🥰
4.5/5 ⭐ — Review of advance copy received from author
What a read… when I signed up for this ARC, I wasn't sure what to expect. It was my first time reading a book by Gomez, and she sure delivered. This book was emotional and rough to get through in the beginning due to the toxic and abusive relationship one of the FMCs is in. But the way she finally gets out of it, with the support of her amazing friends and with sweet Camila, whose soul is so beautiful, was incredibly well done. I loved the slow burn so much. The fact that Gomez gave the characters enough time to get to know each other as friends, rather than having Valeria jump immediately into a new relationship, made the payoff so much more worthwhile. I truly enjoyed this book. I'm immediately reading books 1 & 2 because I need more of these characters!
This book follows Camila, who moves back to her hometown after a health scare involving her mother shakes their already complicated relationship. Hoping to rebuild that connection, she tries settling into a life she once left behind. Then a random encounter with a fluffy stray cat leads her straight to Valeria, a veterinarian trapped in an emotionally exhausting on-and-off relationship she no longer knows how to escape from. What begins as an easy friendship between them slowly turns into something deeper, and the more time Valeria spends with Camila, the more she realizes she has never known a love that feels this safe.
I’m genuinely struggling to explain my feelings about this book because, in theory, it has everything I usually adore in a romance. Healing themes? Slow burn? Emotional vulnerability? Found family vibes? A soft relationship built on trust and patience? That’s literally my thing. And yet… while I really enjoyed reading this, I never fully fell for it the way I expected to.
And the weirdest part is that I don’t really know why.
Because I did have a wonderful time reading it. The story is over 400 pages long, but it honestly felt much shorter because I flew through it so quickly. At some point I looked up and realized I was already on the final page. That alone says a lot about how engaging and easy to read it is.
But emotionally, I kept waiting for that one moment where everything would suddenly click into place, that feeling where I become so invested in the love story that every tiny interaction between the characters has me screaming internally before they finally get their happy ending. I kept waiting for the story to hit me there emotionally… and sadly, it never fully did.
Which is frustrating because this romance is undeniably tender.
Camila and Valeria are so soft with each other. Their relationship is built on attentiveness, patience, and understanding rather than dramatic highs and lows. You can see their love in the little things: respecting boundaries, noticing what the other person needs without being told, quiet touches, small acts of care. If the phrase “love is to be seen” were a book couple, it would absolutely be them.
And honestly? I really appreciated that Cam never tried to rush Val. After everything Val had gone through in her previous emotionally abusive relationship, it felt important that she was allowed to move at her own pace. Their romance develops slowly and naturally, to the point where they’re practically acting like a couple before they even realize it themselves. It’s subtle, gentle, and steady in a way that feels very comforting to read.
At the same time, though, I think part of why I struggled to connect more deeply with the romance is because everything often felt too easy. Which sounds ironic considering that’s exactly what the story is trying to achieve. But because things between them felt fine so early on, and there was never any real obstacle to create tension, their dynamic eventually became a bit predictable. So when they finally got together, I wasn’t surprised in the emotional way I wanted to be. I liked it, but I didn’t necessarily feel that huge emotional payoff I was hoping for.
However, I think Tatiana did an incredible job portraying the emotional aftermath of abuse. Not physical abuse in this case, but emotional manipulation and the long-lasting damage it leaves behind. The story captures so well how confusing and painful those situations can become, especially when someone has spent years convincing you that their treatment of you is “love.” Watching Val slowly unlearn that mindset and begin reclaiming herself was honestly my favorite part of the entire book. Her healing journey felt raw, emotional, and incredibly important.
Cam obviously plays a huge role in Val’s growth, becoming the person who helps her relearn what love is supposed to feel like. But outside of the romance, I really loved the glimpses into Cam's relationship with her mother. As someone who also understand complicated family dynamics, their interactions felt painfully realistic, especially the lingering hurt that comes from years of emotional distance. I particularly appreciated that the story never rushed their reconciliation and instead let it develop gradually, because healing family wounds is rarely immediate.
I do have to admit that despite enjoying both character arcs, there were moments where Cam and Val felt almost too perfect, like they lacked flaws that would’ve made them feel a little more grounded and human to me. And I think that slight emotional distance is probably what stopped me from fully connecting with the story the way I wanted to.
Still, overall, Last First Date is a really heartfelt and soothing read. It feels different from the other books in the series, but in a good way. It might not be my favorite of the bunch, but it comes close. At its core, it’s a story about healing in more ways than one and finding safety in another person after years of pain. Add in the found family vibes, lovable side characters, and the softest slow-burn romance imaginable, and I can absolutely see why so many readers would completely fall in love with Cam and Val’s story.
Endless thanks to the author for the eARC! I'm genuinely grateful for the chance to review it.
one is a soft-spoken vet who keeps letting the same person break her heart. one is a hot Brazilian with heterochromia who restores damaged art for a living. both are brought together by a stray cat and keep finding every reason not to say what they actually feel — until they can't anymore. ----- Last First Date is book three in Tatiana Gómez's Last First Series, and I went in having read exactly zero of the previous books. the good news: it works as a standalone. the great news: i will absolutely be going back to devour books one and two because if they're anything like this one, i was robbing myself. the story follows Camila, who moves back to Washington to spend more time with her estranged, not-so-sapphic-friendly mother after she suffers a stroke, and Valeria, a veterinarian fresh off the slow-motion implosion of a six-year on-and-off relationship with someone who had absolutely no business being anyone's girlfriend. they meet when Camila brings in a stray cat with a broken leg — Miso, who is the real protagonist of this book and i will not be taking questions — and what starts as coffee shop recommendations and friendly texting becomes something neither of them planned for. let me be clear about something: i am not, historically, a patient reader. slow burn and i have a complicated relationship. this one tested me. you get both POVs, which means you are fully aware that these two women are AWARE of their feelings and CHOOSING not to act on them, and it goes on for MONTHS. i was. going insane. BUT — and this is important — Gómez actually explains the hesitation in a way that makes sense. Valeria is too raw after Brooke and doesn't want Camila to feel like a rebound. Camila has been in her own toxic relationship, recognizes Valeria's pain, and doesn't want to push. the explanations saved my rating. without them this would have been a different review. there is a running theme in this book of cosmically coincidental plot points that are almost too much and then get explained just enough to be accepted. the summer camp connection. the mutual friend. the tent. these moments kept toeing the line of too-precious and i docked them points in my head every time — but Gómez kept pulling them back from the edge. by the third one i was a little exhausted by the sap. but i was still invested, which says something. speaking of Brooke — she is a masterclass in how to write an abusive ex without making it cartoonish. controlling, manipulative, ghosts Valeria for anywhere from one to one hundred days (not an exaggeration, three months once, i was unwell), and leaves marks. Valeria's friends suspect but don't know the full extent of it, which felt real. what did NOT feel real was letting your friend wallow at various houses for over a month post-breakup without a single "okay babe we love you but." these are nice friends. possibly too nice. bordering on enabling. but i will allow it. what i appreciated most about this book was how it handled coming out and family. neither Camila nor Valeria got a fairy tale. Valeria's mom is now dating a woman, which caused her dad to develop some opinions about sapphics that he is slowly unlearning. Camila's dad is supportive but completely spineless against her mother, who sent Camila to a pray-the-gay-away camp in her early teens and didn't come around until a stroke rearranged her priorities. i love that she came around. i hate what it took. and i mean that as a compliment to the writing. and then there are the quotes. Camila, after weeks of housing a heartbroken Valeria and finally helping her pack up Brooke's things, says: "just because someone stays doesn't mean the love does." i thought about that for an uncomfortable amount of time. and when Valeria is spiraling about whether pursuing Camila is even fair given how fresh her breakup is, their friend Lily cuts through it with: "assuming what the other person needs will rob you of so much time and memories." Lily is the friend we all deserve and i hope she got her own book. ultimately this is a book about gentle love. not the loud, dramatic kind. the kind that sneaks up on you while you're FaceTiming someone to watch the same show or texting about nothing. two lesbians and a cat finding their way home. it's sweet without being saccharine. mostly.

This book has sweet moments, heartbreaking moments, lighthearted romance moments, and heavier emotional moments. This story feels raw and real, and I really enjoyed the journey the author portrayed.
I really enjoyed this book. I thought the subject matter was handled with the seriousness and respect it deserved. Domestic violence in queer relationships is underrepresented, and I think this book represented it in a way that was respectful and hopeful. Not all romances have the happiest of beginnings, and this more serious theme highlights aspects of life and relationships that many romance themes don't. I liked the balance between more serious moments and cute romance moments. The story of them falling in love and more lighthearted elements, like them crushing on one another, is sweet and heartfelt, without taking away from the seriousness of the subject matter, and I commend the author’s ability to balance those elements in a way that makes the story feel full.
I also liked the inclusion of Camilla’s journey with her parents. It really emphasized that we all have our own battles that we’re fighting and we need support through them, whether that be recovering from an abusive relationship or trying to reconcile with parents with whom you’ve become estranged. Camilla’s arc told its own story of hope, helping the romance and the overall plot feel more well-rounded.
My only complaint was the repetitiveness towards the end. The way they love each other and how they show up for one another is established through their actions and internal dialogue throughout the story, so when they were reiterating those points to themselves and each other in the last ~15% of the book, it felt repetitive. There reached a point towards the end where I felt like the same thing was being said in different ways, but it didn’t affect how much I enjoyed the story.
This book is heavy at times, light at times, and pulls on your heartstrings from the first page to the final page. Readers who like emotional and heartwarming stories will enjoy this book, and fans of the previous books I think will find this to be a satisfying resolution. I saw another review describe this story as tender, and I could not agree more. If you are in need of a tender, emotional romance, this is the book for you.
🌶️🌶️(one or two explicit scenes)
Thank you to Tatiana Gomez for the advanced copy! I received an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts are my own.
This 3rd book in the Last First series was another sweet friends to lovers story. This time with a new twist, a toxic girlfriend that one of the MCs, Valeria, should have broken up with years ago. I enjoyed reading the book even if I had hoped for a bit more in depth description of why Valeria stayed so long with Brooke, her struggle during those years and why her friends never really intervened during the six-year long relationship when so clear that not healthy for Valeria.
From the very beginning of the book very clear that Valeria should not be with Brooke. I see nothing good about her except that somehow Valeria loves her despite the emotional despair she is in constantly because of Brooke’s controlling nature, her leaving Valeria when she feels like it and then comes back and expects to be forgiven. The fact that Valeria is afraid of Brooke makes this even worse.
Fortunately, sweet Camila is moving back to town and meets the veterinarian Valeria when she rescues an injured cat and needs help with that cat, Miso, so stays in contact with Valeria for all sort of questions. They bond over Miso and become friends, Camila is into Valeria from the beginning, but she knows she has a girlfriend and respects the boundaries. She is there the whole time to support Valeria though, she has first-hand experience of a past toxic relationship herself so she really can relate.
All you do from then on when reading the book is begging Valeria to open her eyes, break up with Brooke and start seeing someone there that really can love and respect her exists, Camila. This is however such a long process for Valeria, Brooke has damaged her and her trust in other persons. Of course Camila is there waiting for her, expecting nothing.
I received a free ARC from the author and leave an honest review voluntarily.
This book 3rd out of the Last First Series. This can be read as a standalone, but the MC’s from both the first 2 book are present in Valeria’s friend group. You will fall in love with them and need to read the other 2 books, I’m just going to warn you. I found this book extremely well written, especially how Gomez handled all the hard topics covered. There is a bit of a meet cute that in Valeria’s veterinary clinic, after Camila finds a small kitten. Though Valeria is in a on and off toxic relationship with Brooke so slowly they build a friendship. Brooke’s character is a hard one to read about she’s very manipulative and needs to work on herself and stop pushing her issues and past trauma off on her partner, so for that reason make sure you read the content warnings for this book and mind yourself. Camila shows up for Valeria in all the ways she can as her friend and supports her through her break up with Brooke. It still takes them a while after to realize they both have feelings and a little longer to date. They took it slow and that’s what they both needed, it was beautiful. Valeria also shows Camila affection openly which was missing in her last relationship and supports her in dealing with her mother who isn’t accepting of Camila being a lesbian. There are a couple surprises as your reading this book that, I enjoyed. Even with the harder subjects that are covered, Gomez’s writing is so well done that they are not draw backs. I found that for me they made the romance seem more like a real world experience and not like a fairy-tale which I enjoyed. I personally would love to have the friend group out of these books, so many queer woman supporting each other is something dreams are made of.
📚 ARC Review 📚 Thanks to the author for this advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.
This is the third book in the the Last First series, following newcomer Camila as she meets Valeria during a cat rescue 🐈⬛️
Both women are dealing with difficult outside factors such as estranged family relationships, health struggles, and a toxic, dangerous ex (check the content warnings). And I enjoyed the small details that showed the reality of healing - the ups and downs, the setbacks and progress. The communication and emotional intelligence between them felt especially refreshing, and even their jobs reflected their personalities: both care for, repair, and show love to things ✨️
I also really appreciated seeing Camila’s relationship with her parents explored in a more nuanced way, rather than family being simply accepting or rejecting.
As the story develops, it becomes an emotional, character-rich journey. While the romance moves from friends to lovers, there are also family dynamics, exes, and other love interests woven throughout, which made it even more engaging for me. I usually struggle with sloth burns, but the author’s writing kept me invested and excited to watch the characters grow alongside each other ✨️
They become a safe, comforting space for one another, gradually opening up in ways that feel genuine and tender. And honestly, they're just really sweet and lovely 💖
Despite the heavier themes, this is ultimately a sapphic romance centred around two people who communicate well and actively try to build the healthiest relationship they can, given where they are in life — and that made it a great read 📖
This was a story about recovery and finding a gentle love, and at the same time, it was a story about unlearning things that hurt you. Valeria was in a very abusive relationship with Brook her on-and-off girlfriend of years, who she desperately wanted to love and have her love her back, but the price was too high. And thats one of the pilars of this story, to show how abusive relationships can reshape your, and strip you of your freedom and support, an the same time that it emphasizes in the importance of empathy, because leaving is not quite easy as it seems like. I loved how it represented the consequences of violence in intimate partnerships, at the same time that it gave hope that finding love its not imposible, it just need time and patience. Camila is that gentleness and patience in Valerias life, she gets to know her, to understand her and make her a piece of her life, without pressure or rushing into thing, giving her space to be and feel freely.
Camila also show us how second chances are sometime a possibility, not only in romantic relationships but with your parents too. Camila has a deeply difficult relationship with her mother due to her homophobia and forcing her to go to a conversion camp (that broke my heart so bad).
But after some health difficulties her mom reaches out and tries to get closer. Heres is what i think Tatiana did so good in the story: give Camila the choice to fully reject this aprouch or take the chance based only on her mothers actions, not intentions. As well as validate her doubts and fears, because this is basically a stranger to her, who suddenly claims to have a completely different perspective on who her daughter is, i would be suspicious too.
At the end, the story show us how love can transform and give out hope, and i think that is a very powerful thing.
Last First Date by Tatiana Gómez was everything I wanted in a sapphic romance and more
I love this series so much, and Tatiana consistently delivers the kind of sapphic representation that feels authentic, healing, and full of heart. Camila and Valeria’s story was soft, emotional, and beautifully written from beginning to end.
Camila returning to Washington after her mother’s health scare already made for such an emotional setup, but the way her life slowly opened up through friendship, healing, and unexpected love felt so natural. And Valeria absolutely broke my heart. Watching her finally choose herself after holding onto a painful relationship for so long was powerful and emotional in the best way.
This book shines in the quiet moments. The gentle support, the comfort, the slow build of trust and affection between them. Their relationship felt safe and patient instead of rushed or overly dramatic, and that made every moment hit even harder.
Tatiana has such a special way of writing characters who feel real and lived in. The family dynamics, emotional growth, found family, and healing woven throughout this story made it impossible not to get attached. If you love strangers to friends to lovers, small town romances, soft slow burns, and sapphic love stories full of tenderness and hope, definitely pick this one up
This book was like a warm bath—it wrapped me in warmth in no time at all, and my heart felt full. I didn’t want Camila and Valeria’s story to end, because I didn’t want to leave that warm cocoon under any circumstances.
It’s the third book in this series, but it can still be read as a standalone. I’ve already read the first book, and I was happy to reconnect with the characters from it.
I fell in love with Camila, Valeria, and the little cat Miso after just the first few pages. Camila is such a wonderful character with so much patience. I just felt so sorry for Valeria, and I was glad that her toxic relationship with her ex was handled so gently. I also thought it was so fitting and realistic that Camila gave her plenty of time and that the love story developed very slowly from a friendship. I was rooting for the two of them and could hardly wait for them to get closer.
I also liked this group of friends who are always there for each other. There were quite a few group scenes that were just fun and made me laugh.
It was such a beautiful, cozy and heartwarming story, written incredibly well. It’s about big emotions, butterflies in your stomach, healing, and finding the person with whom you can be yourself without having to pretend. I highly recommend it!
Thank you to the author for the ARC! It was a wonderful book!
After following along with the friendship group throughout this 3 books series I have been so looking forward to seeing what happens for Valeria.
There are some TWs on this book so check those before you read.
The issues dealt with, I feel, were done really well. They weren’t overly graphic in anyway at all but enough for this type of book and nothing was left unresolved or resolved too easily which I find can sometimes happen.
Watching the two MCs fall in love so slowly and carefully was really beautiful to see and the support that Cam gave to Val throughout was amazing.
I loved Cam with Miso too 🐈⬛ so sweet with her worrying about every little thing and being met with only patience by Val.
Of course we get to see some of the previous couple Ale/Clara and Isabella/Lily and their friendship with Val which I love. They give support (the best they can) and banter in equal measure and I absolutely adore how nosy they are and the lack of boundaries between the group 😂❤️
Another great addition to round off this series.
Thank you to Tatiana Gomez for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Ugh the PAIN was so real and raw. The relatableness of the guilt and grief tied up with being in an emotionally and ultimately physically abusive relationship. I was rooting so hard for Valeria to find her peace in the chaos of it all. First of all as someone that has worked in the vet field for nearly 30 years, I was grateful for the realistic job description, I was able to emerge myself into the believability of Valeria's journey without side-eyeing her day to day work life (only unbelievable character trait- where is Valeria's pet!?!). The trust building between Valeria and Camila, was work and so fucking earned. It wasn't an easy journey but one that felt authentic and real. I was prepared to not like Camila, she's new here, I dont know her, she hasn't been sipping Clara's cocktails for two whole other books like the rest of the crew. But she saved a cat and ultimately she and Valeria saved each other. I love them so hard. I'm sad I dont ever get to read this book for the first time again. I don't know why yall are still reading my words, go read Tatiana Gomez's words, shes the wordsmith...

🧡 Strangers to friends to lovers 🧡 Slow burn 😅 🧡 Trauma healing 🧡 Small town (Book 3)
This is book 3 in the Last First series and I’m so happy I got the chance to receive an ARC since I loved books 1 and 2 so much. This is Valeria’s story and wow… my heart hurt for her. Watching her deal with her toxic relationship with Brooke was honestly frustrating and sad because Brooke drained the life out of her over and over again. I was rooting for Valeria from the very beginning and just wanted her to finally choose herself.
I really loved getting to know Valeria on a deeper level after seeing her in the previous books. She’s such a sweet, gentle soul, and seeing everything she carried emotionally made her story hit even harder. Her healing journey felt really emotional and rewarding.
Valeria’s friends were amazing throughout the story, but Camila was something special. The patience, understanding, and love she gave Valeria as a friend first made their relationship feel so genuine and earned. And when things finally started happening between them? SO worth the wait because this is definitely a slow burn 😅
I went into Last First Date without having read the other books in the series, and now I guess I'll have to go back and read those. This book made me cry. A lot.
Watching Valeria's relationship unfold is absolutely heartbreaking because the manipulation is so obvious from the beginning. I spent half the book wanting to reach through the pages and shake Valeria by the shoulders, while simultaneously understanding exactly why she kept holding on.
And then there's Camila. Steady, patient, and endlessly kind, she's the perfect contrast to everything Valeria has been through. Not because she's there to save her, but because she shows her that love can be gentle. The book doesn't rush healing. It lets her grieve, make mistakes, question herself, and slowly learn how to be loved.
I also have to give a huge shout-out to the friend group. They felt like the kind of friends everyone deserves to have in their corner, and some of the most emotional moments in the book came from those friendships rather than the romance itself.
And the cat. That's it. That's the sentence. Miso absolutely stole my heart and I would do anything for her. Read it for Miso.
Valeria is in an on-and-off again relationship with Brooke for six years, not only that, it’s toxic. I wanted to slap Brooke off her high horse since the first book, and this book made me want to plot something not so nice for her. Valeria is a sweetheart, kind, animal loving, and would do anything for a person. Camila comes back to her hometown and doesn’t know how to be here. Camila is patient, understanding, and just a sweet person.
Tatiana Gomez shows you from the beginning how Brooke treats Valeria. We’ve seen it through all three books and damn. I’m glad Valeria grows and learns throughout this third book, from her patterns of conditioning from her ex to becoming aware and reevaluating herself. It was a long journey and I’m so happy to see Valeria now living her life. Camila comes in this book, her growth opens herself up to having friendships, healing, and love. From dealing with family who doesn’t support you, to finally loving you the way you are. Finally Miso, an animal who steals the show and is just adorable.
This book is slow burn. A great slow burn. You see the ways it truly evolves in slow transitions. Strangers to friends, friends to feeling safe and having trust, to lovers. Beautifully written. Emotional vulnerability shared throughout. Having a found family to be there even when you don’t think you have one.
I was accepted by Tatiana Gomez to be a part of the ARC team for Last First Date and below is my honest review.
Last First Date is the third book in the Last First Series and I loved it!
The story follows Valeria and Camila who meet by chance at Valeria’s job. The friendship is a lifeline for Valeria who is going through a difficult time in her relationship. It’s full of the best tropes - slow burn, friends to lovers and found family. It’s the slowest of slow burns and I love it!
It felt raw and real. I went through a rollercoaster of emotions - there were wholesome parts, heartbreaking parts and it’s just beautifully written. I’m a big fan of Tatianas writing.
I really like that other characters from the previous books are still featured in this story - it’s a friendship group I would love to be in! Ps there’s an adorable cat called Miso, what more could you want?
There are some topics covered that can be triggering but I find they are handled very well and sensitively. With that in mind, if you have any content triggers, I advise you to check any trigger warnings beforehand.
I recommend this to anyone who enjoys a realistic trope filled sapphic romance!
I give this 5 stars!
Thank you Tatiana for asking me to read and review!
This was the first book I read by Tatiana Gomez but will not be my last! I like that I didn’t need to read her other books before reading this book, and that it was a stand alone. I love a good series, but also really appreciate when books have similar vibes but can be read on their own. I really loved the main characters in this story and felt that Valeria’s story was easily relatable. While this book covered some heavier topics, I liked how it wasn’t hard to read or unrealistic. Instead, the heavy topics were addressed with respect and understand that readers may struggle with the same traumas or issues in their lives. For me, this book was very reflective and helped me heal in a way that I didn’t realize I was even hurting. Expect to maybe cry a lil bit!! I also loved the dual plot lines told in third person rather than in first! Also, I literally loved our honorary main character, Miso the Cat. We wouldn’t have gotten this story without him. Overall, I really liked this book and definitely recommend!! This was an ARC and releases June 2nd!
Last First Date by Tatiana Gómez follows Camila and Valeria as they learn to navigate their past relations. Valeria slowly learns to leave her relationship with her abusive girlfriend and stand up for herself while Camila gradually mends the relation with her mother.
The book has its charm and is nothing but rewarding to follow the two overcome their respective struggles. Camila's relation with her family and Valeria's dynamic with her friends do bring out their characters a lot. Although the characters are growing on me, I will be honest, I felt let down by the writing.
The story feels overwhelming and a bit hard to follow at times. Camila and Valeria's jobs get described and while they are well done, the fact they are in the middle of a action and disrupt the flow of the scene. I wished we saw more of Miso and not only when the plot needs Camila and Valeria to interact, the story treats Miso mostly like a plot device rather than a character and I was deeply upset about that.
Although I do recommend the book to all slowburn enjoyers, it has its flaws. With all that in mind my rating is 3.8 ⭐️
5 stars! I've enjoyed following this group of 5 friends navigate and find love in different ways, but this was my favorite story out of the three.
The emotional rollercoaster goes something like this: Wow, fuck Brooke, I will find her and punch her in the face (I am not a violent person, but wow, what a truly evil person) followed by laughter and giggles because Camila is the cutest and most concerned cat mom and Miso is a top tier character, and then back to being mad at homophobic parents, swing back to hating Brooke 😂 My fave from a previous book, Lala, made an appearance and gave me immense joy.
This sloth burn was a refresher from some of the fast-paced romance books out there. As someone who identifies on the Ace Spectrum, I truly appreciate this approach, and it made me feel like I will find true love in my future.
Overall, this is a very wholesome book, and I'm sad to see the series end, but I am excited to see what Tatiana dishes out next 💖
Wow, love, and more please are the first words that came to me when I finished the last page. This story was a beautifully emotional journey!
We know Valeria (and Brooke) from the previous installments of the series, but being allowed to experience their tumultuous relationship more in depth was tragic and heart wrenching and taps into all the feels.
Then we get to meet and learn Camilla and the presence she has was written so incredibly well. The friendship that Cam and Val develop is so lovely and exactly what you would hope for!
This is real life, it’s beautiful, messy, tragic, joyful, and highlights the resilience of self and love. Gomez does a phenomenal job of creating a world you want to be a part of!

The first half of this book had me worried, frustrated, and wanting to yell at the main character to get out of the situation. Be prepared for a toxic relationship dynamic that is portrayed so realistically it can be genuinely upsetting at times. I was hooked from the start but be ware—it was an emotional rollercoaster from start to finish.
I will say that Brooke definitely needed some yelling and maybe a couple of slaps, but overall I really enjoyed the book. The side characters were wonderful and added so much depth to the story.
A compelling and emotional read that kept me invested the entire time.
Oh. My. Gosh. Tatiana Gomez has done it again. I was so excited for this final book of The Last series to come out and was so delighted with this whole book. Last First Date is a roller coaster of emotions; sadness, heartbreak, longing, happiness, levity, peace. The relationship between Valeria and Camila is so well written and so life like. We can relate to the situation of finding that person that you just click with and soon after they become the biggest part of your life. I appreciated that there was so much healthy communication between Camila and Valeria. I love that the message of healing through this book is that the process does not have to be complete for you to be whole or worthy. Obviously some TW’s so read those before you dive into the book but I felt like even with these it was written in a way that you felt every emotion and could relate to them. I am sad to see this series end but I can’t wait to see what else Tatiana has in store. Once again thank you for the opportunity for this ARC. 4.5 overall 2 on the spice
The author did a great job showing the rebuilding after a toxic relationship. The lingering effects.
Enjoyed the character growth and was rooting for Camila as soon as she came onto the page. Especially appreciated the closure in the epilogue. 💕

Completed via Kindle. Blown away with how the story unfolds, comes together, and unfolds again and the fact that characters from the previous books are pulled into it so seamlessly. I just love when authors do that. Tatiana Gómez did a fantastic job with this installment. I didn’t realize she was going to write a third book to these series either so when I discovered it I already knew it was immediately going to be my next in line book to read!
