Rodric Vale spent sixty years as the world's greatest hero. He answered every summons, fought every war, saved every kingdom that asked. He reached Level 100—the only person ever to do so—and became a legend.
And on his deathbed, surrounded by kings and nobles who came to pay respects to their greatest weapon, he realized he'd wasted his entire life serving other people's causes.
He never explored the places he wanted to see. Never took a job just because it sounded fun. Never told the guilds and crowns to solve their own problems. He was everyone's sword, and he died tired.
Then he wakes up at the summoning circle. Young again. Level 1 again.
This time? He's not being anyone's hero. He's going to take the quests that interest him. See the places he wants to see. Get strong on his own terms. And when the kingdoms come calling for their legendary summoned savior, he's going to tell them to handle it themselves.
It started off well but then it seemed to kind of run out of steam. Having very similar fights in very similar rooms, having similar conversations. At one point they find the fifth floor and then spend the next two chapters... finding the fifth floor? There's a brief reference to them having seen it before but it doesn't make sense. And there's other stuff, like they keep talking about him weeping over a bowl of stew: he doesn't, though, I checked! He was in his early twenties when he was summoned and after sixty years is somehow 91? He talks about watching people die of old age twenty years after they were 'young'. It just got to the point where I'd had enough of the weird mistakes, and it had become too repetitive to keep letting the problems slide.
A reborn hero who walks away from it all, I had high expectations. I hoped for something a bit different. Then he spends the whole book being a classic hero, and since he is just reacting he has fewer choices. Rather than different, I got incredibly blase and following boring tropes.
I dunno , it hit the right notes, but not in the right pitch for me . I mean in my opinion any book written by a person and not Ai is a good thing , right ? Firstly the Mc himself is kinda goodie dude , kinda a Gary sue in my opinion . This book feels kinda campy to me and I like this kinda genre maybe like the Mac I’m just too old for this stuff , for a Young Adult this could be a good story .
At the start the MC sounds a bit whiney and selfish but due to thick plot armor he finds his way and still ends up saving the realm - but this time on his term.
The story is partly naive and contrived but still good entertainment.
Criticism and comments
The timeline doesn't work. 20sh plus 60 doesn't make 92..
A young man dies 20 years later of old age?
It seems awfully convenient that summons have a filled purse.
Should not Elena rather be in her teens when she is summoned? A woman starting a familyin her late thirties is a very modern sentiment..
The guild master anecdote doesn't work with the MC's backstory as it is hard to believe that he still did this questing in his late 60s but had no time to go for lunch,,
A lvl2 character wants to join a silver rank company whose members are around lvl 30? Preposterous!
The summoners wouldn't know about his level up!
How does a 12 foot tall monster move inside a crammed dungeon?
Voss' plans are too contrived that he can be certain that they will work as he planned. First he needed a survivor who talked then someone who would certainly break the used code fast..
"Before, I was Level 100." - True, but most likely not 30 years ago..
The Vorath plot is nonsensical.. the fact that Declan, a simple minor mage, simply can banish him majkes the story from the MC's first life moronic..
Everyone seems to automatically click 5 stars, Whether the story is good or not... At least that's what it seems like to me. There are very few five star authors out there... Webber, Modesett, Jordan, Koontz, Tolken, and a few others, have all written 5 Star books. So why didn't I pick four stars? The story world is shallow, the plot elementary, and only a little infrastructure. The author contradicts what he writes in earlier passages...e.g. when the main protagonist first opens up the system ( which is barely explained and doesn't make sense) it's states categorically that he will get new classes skills at 10, 25, 50, and 100, yeah, they make a big deal about his first one Being at level thirty! It furthered stage that his class has no tree limit and he can learn anything... But apparently , he decides to pick the exact same thing he did last time and not change anything! Actually, i believe the most OP character was actually the mage Declan! Apparently he could do everything! Other things bothered me about the story too.Like using start swords to cut Rock, or to lose count of enemies at 20, but kill one and have only 19 left, then turn around and have a kill count of 28. That is why I gave only 3 stars and still feel generous doing so.
Not a terrible first entry for a new author, but still needs some work. I think the author should have posted chapters to Royal Road as they would have been able to get some feedback along the way.
It's a pretty simple, fast-paced story about a regressor. The concept of a Hero turning away from the call worked well in the beginning, but the concept is mostly given up as he is drawn into the major conflict again. There are no real issues with grammar or spelling, but I think it could use some editing as there are some overused phrases/scenes that introduce repetition where it is not wanted.
Part of the issue with the pacing is that you don't really get to know the characters much - they're pretty much just names assigned to a spoken section. I think if the book was 100 pages longer, with those 100 pages devoted to slowing down the pacing a bit and spending time with these characters to learn more about them, it would have been an improvement.
Also, the cover seems to have nothing to do with the story. A bit misleading.
I love, Love, LOVED this book right from the get go! The Last Legend Reborn rose to the top of my favorites list. From the moment Rodic said No! And he meant it! No he wasn’t gonna be someone else's tool! Nah'ah not ever again. He ended up walking away from the summoning circle, the church, and the city... ending up joining The Silver Company and the woman he walked away from, for duty, in his first life. And Rodic and his team starts leveling! Yeah Rodic is gonna live his own way choosing the missions he wants and if sometimes he allies with the church well it's his choice to do so. So yeah go grab this one 'cause you need to find out what happens next!
Here's one of the best quotes:
"She's been looking at you differently. And you've been looking at her the same way you look at a good sword—like you want to pick her up and never let go."
This book is unfortunate. I like the premise, but the details and the timeline are very poorly held together. A lot of other reviewers have done a good job at breaking down the many issues with the timeline already, so check it out if it matters to you.
Also, ChatGPT has a specific model built for RPGs and novel writing. The way this is written along with the language and formatting used is virtually identical with what I've seen that model produce. One of the model's weaknesses is that it treats dialogue from all characters roughly the same. Looking at the characterization in this novel, if you swapped lines of dialogue around it wouldn't matter. every character thinks and speaks in the same way.
Maybe I'm wrong and the GPT wasnt used for dialogue and exposition. Maybe this is 100% human. But it kept throwing me off with its repetition, word choices, and clipped information.
Good book, likable MC, the book is not very long. But there’s some things missing from this type of story. Where are the loot drops, where are the healing potions, where are the dimensional storage bags or rings. In my opinion, I find those things missing and in my opinion would greatly improve the story. I like that there are not a lot of info dumpsor page padding stats but the MC is really not OP and that should be removed from the descriptor. of the book. I like the book and will read the next one in the series.
I'm between favorie author releases ... so I tried this ...
I am an avid reader. I wasn't always. Then I decided to decipher between movies and the books they were based on. What an eye opener! Now? Im a subscriber to Kindle Unlimited (which I got for my wife initially and now use regularly). So this book came up as a possible interest. Admittedly, I was skeptical at first. But I figured, meh? I'll give it a few chapters. WOW! First, in in 18 years, I've only written one review. Here? Im writing a review and im only 2/3rds through the book! OUTSTANDING!
First off what a great premise for a book. Very well done in that regard. There were some copy paste issues where text was repeated. The biggest thing that was off for me was the mc’s character was inconsistent. The mc at the start seemed like he was internally driven and had a plan but by the end he was externally driven and without focus. Oh also the book title is a lie as the mc was re-summoned and not reborn which threw me off.
Did not finish Levels. What do the levels signify? Yes he goes from level 1-5 but what exactly does that give him? No stats so how does his strength quantify?
If you’re going to do it like this just remove levels completely and leave skill levels in.
I detest this format it makes no sense; give an explanation as to what the levels do it’s not hard ; his mana condenses or something similar not just 1-5 now he’s stronger
This whole book is just a retelling of the came back to life younger story that's been written a hundred times. I don't think it did anything I haven't seen multiple times before and I don't think it did anything better. It was honestly kind of boring. The leveling and power growth is lackluster and just about meaningless. The side characters are flat and it was all just meh.
The Last Legend Reborn, book one of the series of the same name, is an ebook I borrowed through Kindle Unlimited (KU). I loved this opening book, I was laughing so hard when Rodric is "summoned" as the current generation's hero and he promptly declines the 'honor.' It only gets better from there as he tries to capture the moments he missed in his first life as the Hero. Well balanced action and relationship-building. Not heavy on stats and leveling up, but a well-done storyline. Loved it.
Not as OP as I expected in the usual op litrpg style way. I go for op stories hence my choice. This one is a quick well thought out little story that doesn't drag out anything. The author wanted to play with an idea that wasn't about stats and they succeeded. Worthwhile diversion, nice job.
Not something completely amazing but was entertaining and interesting. The pacing was intense with lots of action. I found some things being repeated and was annoyed by them. The characters dont really have the space to grow with such pacing either. Fun read. Could be better. Didnt regret spending my time on it.
It started out pretty good, a nice rebirth story with great pacing. The MC fights several times, and the fights are over in just a few tight, concise paragraphs. Then suddenly mid-book it becomes every other lame ass Kindle Unlimited LitRPG with SIX chapters of dungeon dive. The whole book is only 26 chapters long, so that represented a major chunk of the total page count.
It read like a lackluster story. No real strong progression or regression: the MC is excellent at all things with minimal effort. His lady love is his with minimal effort. Supporting characters and main antagonists feel lackluster as does the dialogue. It’s missing…tightness and zip.
I really enjoyed reading this book. It was fun and engaging. It was hard to put down once I started reading. The story and characters were incredibly interesting and entertaining. I'm looking forward to seeing what happens next. This book is definitely worth checking out.
Well written, good characters. System is very unobtrusive and not heavy number crunching. World building is excellent and MC is relatable and feels genuine. Looking forward to book 2.
This is a fantastic reincarnation story, with slightly different progression methods, leading to very good character development and world building! The story is filled with fast-paced and thrilling action!
Same story over and over kill this or that I'm a hero save everyone I'm a hero blah blah blah. Thought it would be different but it just took a while to be a world savior!! Can anyone write something original!!
Interesting idea. MMC is good and solid and learns which was surprising. Very appreciated. Liked the romance and how it was handled. The party was fun but felt they could have been fleshed out more. Not too heavy on the stats which is appreciated. Good read.
A hero with a second chance at life and the ability to learn any skill 20% faster than others is only a swordsman. No magic, no craft, no healing. Just a swordsman. It’s bland and boring…
This has good characters all around. Story is decent, plot is good, and there's a romantic connection. There's action, intrigue, and level building, plus dungeon crawling. It's easy to read, but the books not 5 star for me.
