Christa Scott is Pine Valley’s very own rebellious troublemaker. From pranks at school to getting caught with a vape to racing down roadways to terrorizing the local trash cans, she has gotten into more mayhem than most her age. But she’s going to be aging out of wolf school soon, which means she will get to meet her other half...and her mate. Will her mate be her on-and-off again boyfriend, Marcus? Or someone else entirely?

Not only will she be discovering her Goddess-given mate, but trouble is brewing on the pack border. The Crest Woods Pack has made several attacks on patrols, which can only mean one war is on the horizon. Will Christa do what it takes to win the war? Or will she buckle beneath the weight on her shoulders?

Overall impression:
The book started quite slow for me. Honestly, I almost DNF'd it, but I was glad I didn't. Fifty pages later, it got really interesting and the action finally started. Overall, it could have been better, but I enjoyed most of it.

Character notes:
Christa was an absolute rebel. I didn't really like her in the beginning, but it was because I wasn't keen on the juvenile things she was up to. But as soon as she was plunged into the pack, she was badass and I liked how she was constantly pushing the Alpha's buttons. She was still nonchalant about many things, but I liked her cool demeanor when things were supposed to be serious.

"So I have the auroras and now a star in my head. I'm building my very own universe."

Xavier was the Alpha. He was possessive and protective. His character was definitely gray, but the more I got to know him in the story, the more I liked him.

"You are so hot when you take control. We should try that in the bedroom sometime."

Christa's friends Ruby and Fiona were awesome. They were loyal to her first before even the Alpha. I loved their friendship.

I loved that their wolves had their own personality. Christa's wolf was as badass as she was. She had a few awesome quotes. Check them out below.

"I am not a pet that you can fondle."
"I'll try to remember that. I forget how fragile you people are. No fur. Such nonsense."

Plot and pacing:
The book started slow while the climax and ending felt a bit rushed. There were also some plot holes that were left unresolved. There were a couple continuity issues that also distracted me from the story.

Because the ending felt rushed, I felt deprived of their sexy times. Maybe I was biased, but I enjoyed the way those scenes were written, that I hoped there were many more of them (lol).

I don't know if the next book would be a continuation of their story or if it would be of another pack member. It would have been nice to get all questions answered in this first book if the next one is going to have different protagonists.

Writing style:
The writing style made this an easy read after the first 50 pages. The dialogues were great and didn't seem awkward. Christa and Xavier's first time together was so hot because of the location and the circumstances of how they found each other. I thought that part was written really well.

Final thoughts:
This book had a lot of potential to be amazing, but fell a bit short for me. The story itself was interesting, but it could have been polished a little more plot-wise. I would still recommend it if you want a really hot werewolf romance.

*This might have been an omegaverse romance, but I'm not too familiar with that genre. There were mentions of knotting which was what made me think of omegaverse.

"We will have you tamed yet, little rebel." "Not likely," I gasped.

Thank you to Hazel for allowing me to read this book!

3.5 stars rounded up to 4

This was a very fast-paced read in a short amount of time. I'm honestly shocked that this was a book under 300 pages.

Christa is turning 21, which means that she will be moving to the pack house and connecting with her wolf. She's excited for all that entails because she will be given a newfound freedom outside her home with her mom and younger twin sisters. But all turns upside down when she is expelled from her school, merely 3 days before graduation, and she finds that her mate is not the man she's been dating for the past couple of years, but someone else of power entirely.

This book was heavy in the spice at the beginning. Her body wants her mate, she mentally is doing gymnastics trying to grasp her new life and mate while also balancing the life she once had. There are pack politics in this novel that I wish could have gone into more detail. I understand that there are a lot of "wolf" romances out there with similar aspects, but the Luna role and the Beta role seemed new to me.

I also thought that the whole story arc with her father was rushed. That was probably one of the more interesting points of the book, but it was over before it really began. Also more pack politics there that didn't get the explanation it deserved.

Did I mention that most of this book takes place in a span of like a week and a half?? Holy cow that was fast.

The MMC fell flat to me. He was quite 2 dimensional, you never really learn much about him other than he's her mate and has power. Even in his bonus POV chapters you don't learn a whole lot. Who are his friends? Why does he do what he does? What's his motivation? Not quite explored as much as Christa's character is. I know he is supposed to be the deep-voiced, mysterious, handsome, and overall broody mmc, but it made him forgettable. And a little rough. Can't say that he's my favorite.

Overall this was a fun vibe read!

Rebel girl.

I always love a nickname that is very reflective of the character. Not baby or princess, sweetheart or hun. REBEL.

And it fits because the FMC, Christa is very much the fight the rules, break the barriers and have fun without rules. So of course, the wild child has to be tamed by none other than the Alpha, her mate, Xavier.

He's the hot, commanding, Alpha of the Pine Valley wolves. And of course, he loves to put miss troublemaker in her place 😏🤤 so y'all know the spice is ✨spicy✨.

While the story of fated mates runs the same — insta attraction, lust, wanting to complete the bond — the creation of the wolf connection to their human counterpart was so unique and cool to read. And the addition to Christa's internal monologue with Sirius? BLEW MY MIND!! I loved it.

There was quite a lot of unique lore and world creation here while not being heavy and overloaded. Easy read, fun palette cleanser, and a highly recommend for those that love shifter romance.

I will say my only gripe was a bit of pacing near the end with time jumps and quick info pile on, but I'm gonna lay that with the idea it's setting up for book 2!

I'm very very interested to see where her lineage goes and how her new throne looks in the next one 👀

Thank you to Hazel Wilder for the e-arc! ✨

First and foremost, thank you Hazel for letting me on your arc team and reading Rebel ahead of its release date.

Rebellious, reckless, and on the verge of meeting her fated mate, Christa Scott is Pine Valley’s resident troublemaker. Between pack tensions, looming war, and unexpected leadership expectations, she’s forced to grow up fast—whether she’s ready or not.

This was a quick, easy read, but Christa’s immaturity was both intentional and frustrating. There were moments where she actively caused problems, then complained when consequences followed—growth came fast, maybe too fast. I was very glad to see Marcus kicked to the curb (the entitlement? no thank you).

Xavier, the Alpha, had strong presence and tension, though he gave in a little too easily at times. The fated-mate insta-lust was expected, but I wished Christa’s emotional evolution—from rebel to protector—had been more gradual. The ending felt rushed, especially given how resistant she was to leadership early on.

Still, the premise was solid, the chemistry delivered, and it kept me turning pages.

Rebel, written by Hazel Wilder, drew me into its intensity and really never let me go. Also, the characters themselves seemed like they had been written with many imperfections, like real people, which made their emotions more impactful than I expected. In particular, I appreciated how the story unfolded layer by layer instead of hitting all the notes at the same time, especially with regards to the tension and struggle between the protagonists. The darker parts fit into this theme of adding complexity without intending to be disturbing or shocking. It is always the type of story that lingers with you long after the cover is closed. It is definitely a thrilling read for those who like emotionally intense, almost dark, romantic tales with excellent character development.

She’s a rouge soul in this wild shifter world. Raised by a single rouge mother, she stirs up trouble wherever she can. Rebel is light hearted and looking for trouble with her two best friends in tow. One final school prank gets her expelled 3 days before her 21st birthday and graduation per the pack alpha. It all goes sideways for her from her. As she comes into her wolf, she finds out fate has a sense of dark sense of humor. She is mated with non other than the pack alpha. The tale follows their path into deceit, tested loyalty and pack politics. Read to find out how rebel wolf saves her pack.

This book absolutely has the bonest to be an amazing shifter story. The plot twists are really solid.

Overall, though, I had two main issues:
(1) the maturity level of the FMC - although the author changed the FMCs age up a bit from the original version, her bahvior etc. all felt a bit high-schoolish.
(2) the characters and the plot are under-written. The characters need more development, I want to feel who they are in my bones. There are some huge life events and moments of emotional turmoil for the characters but they feel either abrupt or rushed or both.

I think if the story could be fleshed out another 200 pages or so, there'd be the makings of a 5-star read.

“Christa, stop this childishness. You can’t outrun fate.”

Thank you to the author for allowing me to beta read Rebel! I loved the youthfulness of Christa and her friends. The story starts off with their plan to pull off a school prank which was rather insane. Unintentionally this brings Christa into the Alphas radar after being caught but there’s something more than meets the eye between them. The story quickly takes us on a heated journey between them filled with unexpected turns! If you love spice, fated mates and shifter stories, this one is definitely for you!

Such a unique take on the shifter world! I truly enjoyed the pace of the story, how Christa’s character evolved and matured, and the dynamics of pack life. I’m looking forward to the next book to see where the story goes, how the pack adapts to changes and how Christa continues to evolve.

I could not put this book down. While it is a fated mates and shifter book it is so much much the bond is different and it doesn’t follow the typical normal shifter book! This one is on that will have you falling in love with Xavier and wanting more! I can’t wait for the next book to come out I need more.

Rebel is a fast paced, spicy, shifter romance, full of drama and unexpected twists and turns. This book demonstrates that at the end of the day it does not matter what your name is, but what is important is where your loyalties are.

Rebel and Xavier were the absolute best. I fell in love with this one from the first chapter. Rebel was a force to be reckoned with. She was fierce and fun. And Xavier, his protective nature was hot. And he was hot lol. I loved the chaos in this. The spice. Everything about this book was fire.

Such a good book! And truly, thank you for allowing me to ARC read this—I’m so glad I got the chance to dive into it early!

I really enjoyed this story from start to finish. Christa and Xavier were such a fun, engaging pair, and their chemistry was undeniable. I loved watching their relationship unfold—the sweet moments, the tension, the banter, and especially the laugh-out-loud scenes that had me grinning like a fool. They balanced each other so well, and their dynamic made the entire reading experience feel warm, romantic, and entertaining in all the right ways.

The story itself flowed beautifully, keeping my attention the whole way through. The emotional beats landed when they needed to, the humor was well-placed, and the romance felt genuine. It’s the kind of book that leaves you in a good mood after finishing it.

I honestly highly recommend this one! If you love lovable characters, great chemistry, and a mix of humor and heart, this is definitely a book worth picking up.

I ate this book up! It features a great twist between shifters and witches! The spice is spicing and the protective mmc is sooo swoon worthy! The spice was written well and fit the characters and story!
I loved the BFF trio, loyal friends who have your back no matter what, I mean we all deserve friends like that!
I enjoyed the FMC's spicey attitude and banter, and how much she seemed to grow up as soon as she got to the pack house. Her nickname is perfection and fits her so well, forget the cheesy "baby", or "doll" names.... I want a string nickname like Rebel.... but alas, my MMC in real life decided my nickname was saying my first name like the paperwork lady in Monsters Inc. , so I am a bit jealous of the FMC here hahaha.
There is plenty of action and danger happening between the spice and banter so I was never bored while reading it.

I haven't read many wolf shifter books and this one features inner wolves with their own personalities, it was a twist I didn't expect but loved! All of the wolves you meet are their own character and it added another element to the story in the best way!

Over all a great read and has me searching for more fun shifter stories to read!
