Smoke Signal: A Fated Mates Paranormal Romance

Rate this book
Running into a naked man in the woods was not part of my healing journey.

After my life imploded—business gone, fiancé gone, money nearly gone—I did the only sensible thing a forty-three-year-old woman would do. I disappeared into the mountains for a few days to clear my head.

What I got instead was a possible serial killer stumbling into my campsite in the middle of the night.

Like any reasonable person, I screamed, sprayed him with bear spray, and ran into the forest like a horror-movie extra.

When I returned, I found a gold-and-diamond antique knife inside my tent.

Now I’m in a small mountain town with no job, no plan, and a mysterious knife worth more than my car.

And the man whose midnight appearance I have approximately seventeen theories for, none of them good?

He keeps showing up. Charming. Protective. Entirely too sure of a woman who knows better than to trust sure things.

He claims I’m his mate.

I’ve already been burned once.

Now the only question is whether Lucan’s fire will protect what’s left of my heart… or burn it to ash.

Smoke Signal is an interconnected standalone paranormal romance featuring a mid-life heroine rising from the ashes, a possessive dragon who likes to leave presents, and a guaranteed HEA.

Perfect for readers who
Strong women starting over
Characters in their 40s
Fated mates
Found family
Low angst and no breakups
The perfect blend of humor and spice

A simple short read, with Dragons. I like Dragons.

It's very simple, there's a plot but it's very much a side issue and left barely investigated and unresolved!

Basically the book is a meet-cute insta mate. Yet it's not insta-sex. I really liked that it's Liz set the pace and Lucien was actually really sweet brining gifts and er their meeting had me laugh. Liz is strong in a way that's realistic, she's carrying on regardless, no forced sassy independence.

The 'quad' are introduced but don't take over, I'm off to read the first book. We fo meet next books character at end of this and that was awkward I felt I'd missed something.

On the whole an undemanding light read. It could have been filled out to have some emotional resonance but as a time waster it's likeable enough.

This book was fun and I really enjoyed it. I do wish it was longer but it was a great quick read. Lucan was so sweet and his brother Zarek a pain in the ass! 😂 I believe the next book that comes out in December of this year is about him getting his mate and I hope his brothers dish it out to him like he did to them. I will be a little disappointed if they don’t. I did like Liz too although I am always a softy for the MMC and I, personally, would have liked her more accepting of Lucan in the beginning. But that’s me. I love when the MFC doesn’t fight the bond too much.

Really enjoyed book BUT, there were three cliffhangers.
1) who made the hole in the board?
2) who broke into the neighbor trailer?
3) Intro to Harper - next book

I should rate this book a 3-star because of it but, I still enjoyed the book. What really makes it good is the quad and carryover of characters and their relationships. Just sucks I have to wait till December for the next book.

Favorite Dragon

Lucan and Liz are definitely my favorite so far. There relationships somehow felt more organic and fluid. They had issues but they never seemed too fantastical. There love is a beautiful testament to what can happen when people put aside their egos and solve their issues. It might be hard to top this one but we will see. :)

Fun short read. Dragons, fated mates, some bear spray on naked camp invaders. Love an FMC who's over 40 and doesn't need any kind of saving. Really enjoyable book. Looking forward to the next ones
