As Austin continues his tour to bring shifters into the convocation, he hears whispers about a powerful rogue no one dares bring into their territory—a shifter who strikes first and asks questions later.
Jessie and Austin, however, never walk away from someone in need. Unfortunately, they’re racing against the clock.
Evan, the new gargoyle cairn leader, has asked to meet the Mistress of Ivy House.
What should be straightforward quickly spirals out of control…because nothing is ever simple when Niamh is behind the wheel.
Soon, Jessie’s crew is juggling a volatile rogue and a growing mob of furious gargoyles who don’t appreciate being taunted on their home turf.
As always with this crew, chaos isn’t just possible…it’s inevitable.

I enjoyed it, mostly because I love these characters so a new book is like getting a visit with some of my favorite people.
It definitely felt like a bridge book, though - we're still traveling with Jessie and Austin as they try to recruit people to their convocation so they can stand up to Momar. It is an important and necessary step for them, but I am getting tired of the posturing blowhards. Like, each new uppity asshole we meet that is condescending to Jessie and Austin tilts me a little more onto Team "Enjoy Dying, Then, Fuckfaces". Like, I would not have even half the patience Jessie and Austin have, and I would have long since noped out and left them to Momar.
I jest... I think. (Or not.)
I like John, though. But I'm worried if the cast gets much bigger, we're going to lose track of everyone. Like, halfway through this book we had our first mention of Aurora and I was like "oh yeah, she's with them, I forgot".
I also kept waiting for them to have a serious battle in this book, but nah. It was mostly just posturing, politics, and gargoyle pseudo-battles.
I still really enjoyed it, of course. I'm just eager to get past the dog and pony show. Though the next book - Magical Midlife Conclave - seems like it is going to be pure chaos, and woo, I am here for it. Hopefully Cyra gets to melt some faces off.
Worth the wait!! After counting down the days to the release, pre-buying the books in every form as they appeared. The day finally arrived and it was worth the wait. How do you write a review on the twelfth book without giving things away? The team is still recruiting and the Ivy House gang is still hilarious! New big characters are in play and... well I can't wait for the re-reads.
> Ivy House road trip > Fascinating new characters > Relationships are LEVELING UP (Romantic and otherwise) > Trauma healing > Found family like only KF Breene can do
I was so fortunate to get an Advanced Readers Copy of this book, the twelfth installment of the greatest series I’ve ever read. I spent the first 90% of this book thinking it was the final book. Where did that idea come from? I swear I read it somewhere. Well, I’m beyond relieved to discover it’s not the end. This book introduces some fascinating new characters I’m desperate to get to know more!
Jessie, Austin, and their misfit crew are on the road seeking out allies for the big showdown with Momar. Both of them are battling skepticism, criticism, and endless political trash talk. Haters gonna hate, and all that.
While they do make some incredible new friends, the Ivy House crew remains steadfast in their oddball personalities and laugh-out-loud antics. In all of her stories to date, Queen Breene weaves together these complex and utterly unique characters and somehow manages to stay faithful to their individuality, while also ushering them through some powerful journeys of growth and transformation.
One of my favorite aspects of this series is that no character is immune to mistakes, embarrassment, fear, or vulnerability. This world of mages, gargoyles, basajuan, and shifters, is incredibly heartfelt and down to earth.
Magical Midlife Rogue is a faithful continuation of the long road toward the unification of all magical peoples, Momar’s demise, and a peaceful life for all. Nearly the entirety of the book takes place away from Ivy House and O’Briens, letting us see how the Ivy House crew and convocation acts away from their home turf. To nobody’s surprise, hilarity and chaos follow them wherever they go.
I thought the spice was probably lower in this book than anywhere else in the series, but that’s consistent with the amount of plot that is taking place. The spice is not forced or gratuitous, it’s the perfect balance for the storyline.
The various platonic relationships that blossom in this book are just as engaging and satisfying as the romances. The love and loyalty of the Ivy House/convocation crew is the warm, cozy blanket that makes you want to immerse yourself in these books and never leave.
If I had to summarize Magical Midlife Rogue in five words, they would be: conviction, community, healing, heartfelt, and kinship.
It takes a special kind of writer to be 12 books into a series and to have each book as fresh and exciting as the first. K.F. Breene is that author, and her Leveling Up series just keeps getting better and better.
We’re back with the Ivy House crew in Magical Midlife Rogue as they continue to try and grow their convocation. Right from the start there’s palpable tension, yet Breene still manages to make you laugh despite the team heading into a dicey situation.
This book definitely has a lot happening, however the pacing never feels too rushed and nothing feels like it was only done halfway. Literally everything is fleshed out and you completely lose yourself in the world Breene has created, plus having multiple POVs gives us more insight into all that’s going on.
What I truly love about this series is the diverse mix of characters who find family in one another despite their myriad of differences. Sometimes found family can feel a bit forced in books, but in this series it feels completely natural. I also find it comforting when outcasts and misfits end up finding their tribe.
Speaking of characters, in MM12 we get some new ones and it’s always a delight to see how they react to and perceive the eclectic and odd bunch that make up the Ivy House crew. Per usual, my favorite supporting character Edgar had me laughing a whole lot, but I really enjoyed seeing the connection between Tristan and Nessa finally progress as I’m totally invested in their relationship.
There’s also the perfect combination of action, excitement, spiciness, mystery, humor and emotional wallops that one expects when reading anything by K.F. Breene. Her fans definitely call her the Queen for a reason!
I will be patiently awaiting the next book in this series. Meanwhile, I think I’ll try to crochet some doilies. 😉
I received an ARC of this book from the author, however this review is completely my own unbiased personal opinion, left of my own volition.
What can I say that I have not already said about this author and this series in particular? Not much I'm afraid. For anyone new - I absolutely love this series and I love Ms. Breene even more.
She has a way of creating absolutely fantastic characters who are somehow funny....no, make that hilarious. She always finds a way to inject humor into a story, even at times when you think things shouldn't be funny. It is almost like finding out someone spiked your coffee and you end up feeling loopy from something that you do not expect to cause that reaction. Okay, maybe not the best example.....That didn't really make sense, did it? Oh well.
Anyway, about this book. We are already 12 books into this series so obviously I am a huge fan. The world has already been created (and it is such a GREAT and unique world) and the characters have already been developed. I love each and every one of these absolutely crazy, zany, kooky....pick a word....characters and found family that has found and attached themselves to Jessie and Austin.
This world has gargoyles, shifters, vampires, a phoenix, and a sentient house, and that does not even skim the surface.
This book felt a little like it was a set up book - setting up another major battle and that is okay. Not that this book doesn't have any action because it does, quite a bit. But I think we are close to getting to the end of the Momar story arc.
Ms. Breene has built up enough credit with me that I am already invested and will be with her until the end. But even as I write that, I hope that we are not anywhere close to an end. I hope that this zany world with the even crazier characters is going to be around for a VERY long time.
Why? Because these books make me happy. Simple as that :)
I've read a lot of books in my 65 years, but if I could pick one world set in one book or series that I could make come real and be the main character in, it would be this world in this series. The love they all have for each other, the respect, the actual joy they get from being together and I don't mean just Jessie and Austin, I mean both whole crews. It's actually awe inspiring and makes me want to surround myself with people like that. I know this isn't the normal type of review but reviews are about how the book make you feel and this book, no, this entire series has continued to build and build on that foundation of love and respect amongst the two crews that you want to be a part of it yourself and feel left out that you're not. Plus there's all the cool magic and the amazing house, and all the side characters and Austin who is my book husband. This is what K. F. Breene does so expertly. She makes you want to live in her worlds.
Wow the build up to the main battle has me on the edge of my seat, you can feel it as your reading. This book was brilliant I laughed so much, even spat my drink and had it come out my nose, thanks for that. The storyline in this book was brilliant and I am so looking forward to seeing what will happen next. Great new characters and I love the character development throughout the whole series.
A bridge book. A lovely revisit to all the characters but it was a plot bridge and, frankly, didn’t have much conflict or development. Continue to love the series and looking forward to the continuation!
The Ivy House Crew and Austin's pack have been traveling the country for the past few months trying to convince Alphas to join their cause. Now they traveled to North Carolina where they are supposed to meet an Alpha who is known to be wild and unstable. They want him to join their cause.
But Austin defeated him in a challenge so fast, that Drex, the Alpha, was shocked. When Sebastian is attacked by two Mages who happened to live within the pack, Jessie knows that secrets are being held. Drex had no clue about the Mages' origins and the horrors they committed. Right before Jessie and Austin are supposed to leave, Momar's people attack the pack. Thankfully, they were ready for it.
Now they are offering sanctuary to a rogue Alpha shifter who's been looking for a safe haven for years. Will they convince him to leave the forest and move to O'Brien's?
This entry in the Leveling Up series earned ALL the stars. It’s a rare series that can keep the momentum for 12 books (with more on the way!) but each entry is fresh, funny and ratchets up the tension while raising the stakes. There’s a reason why KF Breene is one of my favorite authors of all time.
This entry follows Jessie, Austin and the Ivy House crew as they travel and visit in efforts to grow their convocation. Multiple POVs throughout. Seeing the crew through the eyes of so many characters (and getting their inside thoughts) is ALWAYS a delight.
Nessa and Tristan’s relationship takes some huge emotional leaps in this entry. Be ready to fall even more in love with the Guardian gargoyle with a mysterious past. And watch out for dating advice from Niamh!
I really love how the Ivy House crew always has space and a purpose for everyone. They welcome those who want to be part of their endeavor with grace and a willingness to meet everyone where they are and accept them as they need.
I’m even more excited for the next entry in the series! Thanks so much to KF Breene for the review copy.
This book is just a good time. Slightly different format to the others, I would say the main pov's have shifted slightly, but it works well. This series is one of my all time favourites, the characters are just perfection, I love them all. especially Edgar, Niamh and Mr Tom. KF Breene is just so bloody talented, her humour and story weaving are impeccable, especially in this series.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, if Breene writes it, I’m going to read it. I’ll probably laugh out loud numerous times too. Reading this makes me want to go back and reread the whole series as it’s just so funny. I honestly home there’s at least 2-3 more in this series because 1. I don’t know how she’s going to wrap everything up in one or two, and 2. I think it’s just too much fun! Honestly doing a full review seems silly at this point because if you’ve read the 12, 13(?) prior books, you’re already in. There’s no going back. Accept your fate and start having meaningful conversations with Edgar. To the author… I’m going to need some good payoff in the Natasha and Tristian situation. 👀
I love this series It truly has some of the most hilarious characters I’ve ever read. I love the twists and turns as they build the convocation to bring peace to the magical side
I’ve just finished the latest book in K.F. Breene’s Leveling Up series (the Magical Midlife books) and I’m still grinning like an idiot. This series isn’t just good, it’s the absolute best series of books I’ve ever read in my entire life. No exaggeration, no hyperbole. It’s peak joy on every page.
From the moment I started Magical Midlife Madness, I was completely hooked. Every single book has me riveted from start to finish. I literally cannot put them down! The pacing is flawless, the twists are wild (in the best way) and the storytelling is so addictive that I’ve lost entire weekends (and a lot of sleep) to Jessie, Austin and the whole Ivy House crew. And the humor? Oh my gosh. These books make me laugh out loud constantly - actual, embarrassing, snort-laughing-in-public, tears-running-down-my-face moments that have my family side-eyeing me like I’ve lost it. The wit is razor-sharp, the situations are hilariously absurd and K.F. Breene’s comedic timing is pure genius.
What takes this series to legendary status are the characters. They’re all absolute geniuses, brilliantly written, deeply layered and so vividly real that I feel like they’re my actual friends (or chaotic magical family). Jessie’s growth is inspiring and relatable, Austin is swoon-worthy perfection, the gargoyles crack me up and every side character brings something special. No weak links, no filler, just unforgettable personalities and banter that I never want to end.
And this latest book? Fantastic. It might be the strongest one yet. It delivered everything I adore about the series - more laughs, more heart-pounding moments, more magical mayhem—while somehow raising the bar even higher.
I’ve finished and I’m already desperate for whatever comes next.
If you’re looking for a paranormal women’s fiction series that celebrates midlife magic, kicks butt with humor and heart, makes you laugh until your sides hurt and keeps you glued to the pages, stop scrolling and start Magical Midlife Madness right now. Trust me: you won’t regret it. This is the kind of reading joy that reminds you why we love books.
A part of me never wants this series to end, but another part of me is annoyed that we still know absolutely nothing about Momar in book 12.
Any book in this series that heavily features Edgar, the dolls, and now Fred is a total win in my book. Edgar is by far my favorite character of any book series. He is consistently hilarious in how insane and weird and odd he is and how uncomfortable he makes everyone else. Fred is also easily becoming a favorite for the exact same reasons.
I think John will be a great edition to the crew. He vibes so well with Edgar, Fred, and Aurora. They definitely bring him out of his shell.
Overall, great book. It had humor, it had action, it had magic, it had a brief appearance of the dolls. I just wish we had learned more about Momar. It feels like we still know absolutely nothing.
Absolutely in love with this series!! Usually by this far I lose interest but not with this, not by a long shot. K.F. Breene is an amazing author and I LOVED this book, it pulled me in and didn't let me go - definitely one that will keep you up until 3 am. Which I shouldn't be surprised about every time it happens when I pick up one of her books, but here we are. Writing a review, sleep deprived and work in a few hours - but ABSOLUTELY worth it and will do again!
I love this series so much, and when this book came out I reread the whole series. Lucky for me, I have all the Graphicaudiobooks which are published. So it was also fun, because some of them were new for me, as they came out after my first read.
If someone expect this to be a book about Midlife crisis then you are wrong. The characters are older but they experience a new phase in their life, which for example means for the FMC that she learns about magic and so on.
I have absolutely DEVOURED this series and cannot wait for the next and last book to be release in the series. Each book is more funny and fantastic than the last. The coming together of characters and arcs throughout, with new additions in each book is brilliantly done and I just want more from this world. Definitely get this on your list if you want to get stuck into a fantastic and unique fantasy story.
As always loved every minute of this book!! One of the main reasons I was drawn to this book series was due to the FMC being in her 40’s I felt like I could really relate as I am in my 40’s.
But I love the fun humorous banter that is portrayed in this book series!
Really would love a spinoff series of Tristan and Nessa ❤️❤️ I so want to know what his origins are for his power!!
Having an extended series to binge is wonderful until one runs out of books. Jessie's crew is still hilariously weird, the new rogue is fascinating, the antics at the gargoyle cairn are enjoyable, and the entire story is engrossing. Now to wait patiently for book 13.
I love these characters and this storyline so much. Every book is so so good and I love how the story keeps changing, but we get to keep going along with them and seeing all our favorites. I’m looking forward to the next book.
I recommend the audio editions for this series, since the cast is broad and wide (and a little crazy), but the narrator, Nicole Poole, somehow captures each personality perfectly. The series has developed so that the interactions among the ensemble are so entertaining that the plot takes a backseat to the humor and fun--in a good way. I found myself smiling and laughing often. I can't believe that I can say that after twelve volumes, I am looking forward to the next offering.
We love an older FMC, and Jessie absolutely delivers. At 40, she starts out as a normal human—until she gets powers and chaos immediately follows.
One of the standout elements of this installment is the ever-growing found family. The cast is a chaotic mix of personalities some you ship hard, others you’d absolutely want to grab a drink (or three) with. The dynamics are messy in the best way, and the relationships continue to evolve in ways that feel both entertaining and genuine.
This newest installment is packed with edge-of-your-seat battles as Jessie and Austin work to recruit more shifters into the convocation.
The book balances action, romance, and comedy effortlessly. If you’re looking for alpha challenges, mage battles, and high-stakes confrontations, you’ll find plenty here. But honestly? The banter steals the show. It’s sharp, funny, and often the highlight of the story.
There are several standout moments, including an intense meeting with Drex, John’s reactions to all things, Niamh shining like the star she is and the heat really intensifying with Nessa and Tristen.
Overall, Magical Midlife Rogue dives straight into the action, picking up seamlessly where the previous book left off. With its blend of humor, heart, and high-energy storytelling, this series is perfect for anyone looking to escape reality for a while.
If you love an older FMC, found family vibes, a fast-paced, laugh-out-loud read, this one is absolutely worth it. 5⭐️ and 3🌶️
Man I am in love with 2 series born of fire and magical midlife I cant believe this one is ending . 9h it makes me sad but read it an them both u wont enjoy a book more . These are binge reads..
Twelve books in and this series is still rocking! I love every new installment; it’s like visiting old friends. I keep thinking it will get old and tired (like a certain vampire!), but it never does. And this book was one of the best. I loved seeing some progression in the Nessa/Tristan relationship, and I am really excited to see how a new addition to the team fits in. I don’t know how our Queen keeps doing it, but she’s like Jessie—the glue that brings it all together. Constantly. Can’t wait for lucky #13 next!
This is a book for the fans for sure. I felt like a lot of it we've been through before with these characters but I enjoyed the growing relationship between Tristan and Nessa and would love a book just on them to be honest. The crew is getting bigger and bigger and I'm ready for the epic final battle. If you're a huge fan of this series and love these characters you'll obviously love this book.
