I really loved the Armenian mythology thats weaved through the story. You can tell the author was passionate about it. It starts with Satya and her father trying to steal from the king. It goes badly, so with the help of her school teacher and her fathers friend she escapes. Where it lost me a bit is at the love interest(s) both of them seemed forced and like it was just thrown in or an afterthought. Satya finds about about the magic and the magic systems with the help of people who knew her parents. I would definitely read more from this author.

Thank you to Netgalley and Wild Rose Press for access to this eARC! All thoughts are my own.
______________

This began with a promising premise and a world that could've been really interesting. Unfortunately, after about the 15/20% mark things slowed right down and became really quite boring. The characters fell very flat, the main character often just did stupid things for no reason and that failed to endear me to her at all. I don't know anything about any of them after reading except that she supposedly loves her family.
There was world building but it was not overly coherent and actually worked to confuse rather than interest. Most of the book just focuses on these creatures that I had no interest in, and the mc's powers just kind of happened and started fixing things. Overall a rather boring experience, unfortunately.

I would say 4stars if this was a final copy, but it's not. I received and ARC from the Author (for free in exchange for my honest opinion) through BookFunnel. Anyway....

This was so fun to read. I sat down today and red the last 170ish pages. Started this morning at 8am and finished around 3pm. (Doome scrolled for an hour before posting...lol) I really like picking up books that give you a look into othe cultures, like this one. The Author says that she have included lore from her Armenian heritage. There's dragons, magic, strong female lead, slow burn romance. Epic Fantasy. Hopefully there are some corrections made before official publish date but other wise this is a really good start to a YA fantasy series/Trilogy/duology. Not sure exactly which of those this is yet.

Publish date is set for mid-May I think, so go check it out!

“Our stories meant nothing to the king, whose only revelry came from sacrificing other kingdoms like a lion devouring its prey.” -Satya

“Who am I but a selfish girl drowning in a sea of errors?” Satya

“Heed the night’s truth to tell the story of dawn.” Goddess Ayg

Light Weaver is a stunning YA fantasy debut that breathes new life into the fantasy sub-genres by drawing from Lusine Torossian’s Armenian heritage, mythology and traditions. In a market saturated with Greek, Roman and East Asian influences, Torossian’s novel is a welcome addition. The rich fantasy culture, expanded by mentions of food, language, folklore and faith grounds the magical narrative in something that feels both ancient and new. I hope a glossary is included in the final edition to help readers unfamiliar with Armenian terms fully appreciate the experience.

Light Weaver is a slow-burn adventure wrapped in a coming-of-age tale with just enough romance to keep the heart fluttering. The FMC is fierce, flawed and incredibly human while her love interest offers the emotional complexity and mystery. Their introduction and time to warm up to each other feels natural and builds with tension rather than tropes. Torossian doesn’t shy from darker and mature themes such as secrecy, death, betrayal, spiritual lore. All of this is applied in an age appropriate way while still engaging adult readers alike. Parents should note the inclusion of elements like murder, a vampirism-adjacent affliction and references to multiple deities, an afterlife and the underworld.

One of the shining stars in this story is its intuitive magic system. Torossian masterfully reimagines familiar themes like light and dark magic, adding layers of originality with god-touched relics: the healing spool, the wall breaker, the ring with its epic powers. The physical toll and moral weight of magic are brilliantly portrayed, adding personal sacrifice, urgency and depth. I originally committed to 2 chapters before switching to another activity but found myself 12 chapters in and fully hooked. I can’t wait for what Torossian does next. This is one to watch.

Thank you to Netgalley and The Wild Rose Press for a copy of this book. All opinions are my own and written by me. The book releases May 28th 2025. Look for it on Amazon, Barnes and Nobles Online and Bookshop online.

Light Weaver follows Satya, a relic thief on the run after stealing an ancient artifact from the king. She discovers a dangerous secret: the king is a puppet to a soul-harvesting sorcerer building an undead army. An army that includes Satya’s dead family. Fleeing with her professor, Satya finds herself far more powerful than she once believed. With her family’s souls on the line, Satya has to face impossible choices and save herself and those helping her from deadly demons.

As someone who loves lore and myths from other cultures, this was so interesting! I can’t say I know anything about Armenian mythology, but now I really want to read more. I loved the world the author created. It was so magical and atmospheric. The gods/goddesses and magic system were so fascinating. The whole concept of Light Weaving and weaving souls into tapestries was so cool and unique. The plot is engaging throughout the novel and keeps you on your toes. The ending was great and I really enjoyed all the twists and turns.

Satya is a great fmc! She’s very courageous and strong while still having vulnerabilities. Her growth and journey through the novel was really well done. There's a great slow-burn romance that gives you the perfect amount of chemistry and intrigue. Their ending was really cute!

Overall, if you like unique magic systems and Armenian mythology, I’d definitely recommend checking this one out!

Thank you to The Wild Rose Press and Netgalley for the arc!

"LightWeaver" is a captivating journey through a world steeped in Armenian mythology, where magic and adventure intertwine. The story follows Satya, a young girl on a quest to reclaim her heritage and confront the dark forces threatening her home. With her father’s wise words, “When the top bulb empties, we’re out of time. Make it count”, Satya navigates treacherous paths filled with demon-mice and ancient relics, all while grappling with her identity and the weight of her family’s legacy.

Lusine Torossian’s writing style is both lyrical and immersive, drawing readers into a richly woven tapestry of emotions and vivid imagery. Her prose flows like a gentle stream, capturing the essence of her characters’ struggles and triumphs. The incorporation of folk songs and proverbs, such as “A fledgling flame may sputter low, but practice fans the light’s warm glow”, adds depth and cultural resonance to the narrative.

Torossian’s ability to blend traditional and reimagined mythology creates a unique reading experience that resonates with themes of resilience and hope. "LightWeaver" is a must-read for fans of fantasy and those seeking a heartfelt connection to their roots.

Another great North Florida Author to add to your list and read.

This got better as it went on. However, I found that there was too much going on — particularly at the beginning — with not a lot of background or description. It could be chaotic and confusing, from all the histories and new words that weren’t explained, to the language that was clunky and highly repetitive, to the riddles and solutions that didn’t really make sense and had to be forcefully explained…

The premise was great, and the final battle was enjoyable to read but there was a lot of ‘filling-in-the-gaps’ that had to be done first for things to make sense (or to just brush over and ignore).

As a non-Armenian, the story felt original and fresh. The folklore and myth inspirations worked really well and I’d love to dive deeper. As the writer’s debut, I’m sure she will hone her craft and I hope there’ll be more Armenian-inspired books to come.

Thanks to NetGalley for a free ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I absolutely loved this book. I loved delving into the depiction of the world building which is huge. It’s definitely more fantasy than romantasy with a bit of enemies to lovers. You fall in love with these characters like they are your best friends. I really hope there will be a book 2 I’m a light worker and a healer and this book resonated with me more than some people will ever know 👌

I was given access to this work in audio book format from NetGalley free of charge in return for an honest review.

I was drawn to the cover art it looked like a woven tapestry . beautiful rich colors and the stunning flowers and white doves. with the intricate golden symbols then the blackness of the coiled shadow serpants it was bold and it drew me back to it several times. I wanted to know what story was waiting to be told , in the end i gave in and I found myself in the midst of an amazing adventure.

As with all audio reads I will start off by saying the narration is excellent. I adored this particular read even more because it was done by the author themselves so there was no guessing at pronunciations of names and places as is some times the case with things. Because she wrote it she knew exactly how it was ment to sound.

When I first picked up this story I never expected to find myself in the midst of a hiest nor an epic tale of Godpower used to entrap the souls of the dead or transform and corrupt living souls into terrifying monsters. But that is exactly what I got when I met eighteen-year-old relic thief Satya and her father in the middle of making their way into a treasury room of none other than the evil Golden King. They have searched the the kingdoms for a relic of myths and folklore for an ancient resurrection artifact all in the hopes of returning her mother and brother to life . Instead they are caught her father sacrifices himself to ensure Satya and the relics get away and she uncovers The most highly guarded secret in all the lands The King is nothing more than a monster: puppet to a soul-harvesting Priest sorcerer who is building an undead army—one that includes her fallen family.

Following Her escape The Kings halls, and her home city through the treacherous Sophene Highlands leads her to Rei, an enemy warrior whose haunted history is intricately woven with her tragic past. As forbidden love blossoms amidst a divine war, Satya discovers that the legendary relic holds dual powers. Now she faces an impossible choice: resurrect her family by sacrificing her soul, or save the kingdom and lose them forever.

Some legends refuse to stay buried. Some choices demand everything.

I really enjoyed this read it was amazing . The verses and bits of lore at the start of each chapter really helped to make the setting feel more real and alive. The mythology is based on Aremina myth and folk lore and was a really neat introduction to that as it was compleatly new to me and even as it was introduced it didn't pull me out of the story.

So happy to read a well written book filled with equisite imagery and a compelling story. It is a wonderful feeling, not unlike the era of the "HP novels", when a novel can capture the imagination of both parent and teen. Ms. Torossian clearly respects the intellect of her reader- her novel has glorious worldbuilding, well designed plot development and compelling characters. Light Weaver introduces the reader to Armenian mythology which infuses this story and gives it depth. At the end of the novel the reader has traveled with the heroine, Satya, in a time and place filled with palace intrigue, tension, heartache, romance and personal triumph over setbacks. In all a compelling story that leaves the reader hoping for more, more about Satya, more about the world Satya inhabits and the curious whifts of other stories that echo through Satya's story that the author has skillfully woven in Light Weaver. This reader looks forward to more from this author.

ARC Review

I am so grateful that I was sent an advanced copy to review! This beautifully written book grabs you from the first page and doesn't relent as you are whisked through its adventurous pages.

The world building is beautiful and of a depth that I have been longing for in a read. Clearly, the author has thought through this world and translated it well to the page.

The pace is fast and moves through the story in a logical, cohesive manner. I liked how bits and pieces we were given throughout the story tied together at the end.

The characters seemed to have the same depth as was given to the world building. There were a few side characters that when they popped up, I couldn't place who they were or had a vague idea of them. But, the main characters were well thought out. Some of the interactions seemed stilted, but that might have just been my lense with which I was viewing this story.

The magic system is unique, which was refreshing to read even though I am not sure I fully understood it. I liked that the concept was one I hadn't seen before.

That was my objective review, I honestly think people are going to really enjoy this book in ways I didn't, and I genuinely want to be fair to those strengths that were evident as I read. I struggled to complete this book and largely enjoyed the most the last 25%, between 50-75% I would have DNF if it wasn't an ARC. Let me explain why.

The world building is incredible, but some of it was inaccessible to me because the author would provide italicized words and no clear description for those words. Despite using them multiple times, and every single time I came across one, it would fling me out of the story. And every time that happened, I would care less and less about what was happening in what I was reading. This may not be an issue for everyone, so I really wanted to try to be fair in my review. The absolute worst example of this (which pushed me to want to DNF):

"A wave of melancholy hit me. A profound sense of karot."

"The pang of karot swelled, a mix of loss and longing."

"The sensation of karot, a ripple of nostalgia and yearning filled my senses."

"A sudden warm feeling of belonging, of karot, washed over me."

Maybe it's just me? All I want is it to be clear exactly what the author means. If there was an index, I would be a happy camper. It all started on the first page for me when the author mentioned tuffa bricks. They were in italics, and there was no physical description ever provided. Same for a vague musical instrument a few chapters later, and the glow rocks that are used throughout the book. I was exasperated.

But, I wanted my review to be fair to the author her writing is beautiful and verbose. I might revisit her future works a few books from now, but unfortunately, this isn't the series for me.

Dear Reader,
I hope this book finds a special place in your heart. As an author of Armenian descent, I’ve woven ancient myths from Armenia and surrounding regions into a tapestry of my own design. This novel is an homage to my heritage, blending my favorite elements from childhood stories with invented history and magic. If you enjoy:

- Rich reimagined mythology
- A clean enemies-to-lovers romance that will steal your heart
- Divine riddles and trickster gods stirring chaos
- Innovative light and shadow magic systems involving trapping souls inside tapestries
- A clever heroine who relies on wit as much as magic
- High-stakes heists and ancient mysteries
- Family bonds tested to their limits
- Gods and demons playing deadly games
- Choices that blur the lines between right and wrong
- A coming-of-age journey of healing and redemption

Then I think this tale will resonate with you. I truly hope it captures your heart as much as my childhood stories have captured mine.

This book is available in both ebook and paperback formats. Thank you to all reviewers!

I got a e-copy from Net Galley.

I really liked the concept of this book. Personally I really like books that are based on a culture, makes it easier for people to learn about them in fun ways (some people can’t afford going to places with that culture).

I didn’t give it 5 stars because the pacing of the story was a bit slow at certain times, there were faster moments that compensated, but especially at the beginning there are parts that are slower because the focus is more on her inner monologue that can be overly extended sometimes.

Other aspects like the world building, I think, are very unique and new, since I don’t have much knowledge in Armenian culture, the magical twist made it very easy to get a first taste of it. The places were very well described and the tapestries, specifically, were one of my favourite parts. The way they were used was intriguing and I hope it is explained more in the next book(s).

I also hope the relationships that the main character acquires through the book are further developed and explored in the future. Particularly the love story, I need more of them.

All in all, it’s a good start as a first book in a series, there are some things that can be improved before the publishing date but I would recommend it a 100%.

I received this book as an arc from the author. It was a lovely read. My only critique is that the book was a little bit slow in the middle but that was simply because of how much build-up was required to reach its spell-binding ending.

The world felt fresh and unlike any fantasy world I'd ever encountered before. The magic system was creative and felt fully intertwined with the world's history and mythology. Torossian does a wonderful job of describing her magic system and of giving the reader just enough description of a setting so that they can imagine it, but not too much that the descriptions become cumbersome. The book was also very easy to get into, and the first chapter got me very invested in Satya's story, and the world.

Satya is an excellent main character and I loved following her along on her adventure. The cast of characters was kept very small which I appreciated because it allowed me to keep track of all of what each character was doing. I enjoyed most of the side characters and I felt like although they were not as dynamic as Satya they still read like real people to me.

Overall I enjoyed this book because its immersive world, creative magic system and compelling main character.

What a great book!!! The book from beginning to end kept me glued to the pages. The story starts with Satya stealing a resurrection artifact from the Golden King, with the intention to help her reunite her with her fallen family.
Although, after stealing the artifact, a series of dark secrets begin to unfold.
Satya then embarks on a journey, to find answers on how to use the artifact and learn the truth about her connection with the artifact.
The book is immerse with Armenian mythology and folklore. Which was so eloquently written.
The magic system was so captivating; consisting of Gods, demons, and ancestral gifts.
Satya coming into her powers and facing her inner demon was so heart wrenching.
Let’s not forget the slow burn romance between Satay and Reí !!! The connection between them was so intense and sweet!!
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book.
I greatly appreciate NetGalley and Author Lusine Torossian, for the opportunity to review this amazing book.

What a lovely read. Satya, as our lead provides us with a dynamic and realistic character trapped in a moral dilemma. I don't know much about Armenian mythology, but even so, it's woven in in a way that's easy to interpret and follow.

The world building is absolutely brilliant. The magic system is refreshingly unique- though a couple of aspects had me lost for a minute there. Same with a couple of the side characters that I nearly forgot about until they cropped back up. I feel like both elements could be expanded upon if there's any more to this universe.

I love an adventure story, and that's just what this is. The world built here is thorough and intriguing, and definitely left me wanting more with this world and its people. (ARC)

Thank you to the author for providing me with a copy of the book. I am excited to leave a review.

This was a great, clean YA fantasy romance. Satya is incredibly relatable as you move through the story and you truly see her heart as well as her growth as she takes on the role that has been given to her. Her relationship with Rei develops with the most amazing twists that I did not predict in the least.

The magic system in the book is also unique as it is woven into tapestries and is easy to follow. While it appears that this is a standalone book, I would absolutely not hesitate to read more stories from this world and these characters.

I was lucky enough to be an ARC reader for this book! When I first picked up the book, I wasn’t sure if it was for me. The beginning felt rushed and I struggled to make a connection to any of the characters. However, about halfway through I really started to connect with Satya and ended up falling in love with the story! So, if in the beginning you aren’t sure if the book is for you, stick with it and you will be greatly rewarded in the end! Thank you @lusine for the opportunity to read this book as an arc!!

This was my first time reading a book inspired by Armenian mythology which made it all the more intriguing. I loved the unique magic system and the way we went along with Satya as she grew to step into her role. It did take me a bit to get into the story at first but after the first few chapters, I was pretty hooked. I also really liked how light and dark were portrayed by Torossian. I do wish we have more of Reí though. Overall it was a really pleasant read and I thoroughly enjoyed it 🩵

This book is so magical! The storyline sucked you in and kept the pages turning. The world building was *chefs kiss*. Many details and little descriptions. The Magic element was definitely nothing I've seen before and was done so well.
I also really enjoyed the characters! They were very well described. Lusine did a great job of planting little things throughout the story that came back towards the end that just made sense.

I really enjoyed the mythology and folklore in this story. I was really invested in the story until about halfway through, where I lost steam. I wish the adventure continued into the action instead of having a lul in the middle. The main character was also very engaging until that point as well then she started to feel a little less dimensional. Thank you to the author for providing me with a copy of this book.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Satya is our fmc. While tagging along with her father to steal a relic from the king, her father was caught and killed. Her mother and brother were killed years prior in a massacre wiping out perceived threats to the kingdom. Now in possession of a couple of powerful relics Satya is on the run and trying to figure out what to do with the new power she’s been given.

I occasionally had a hard time keeping up with the changes in the plot. I have no idea if it was a me issue or the pacing. There were several points especially in the first half where I was like “wait what? How did we get here? Who is this person? What did I miss?” Maybe I was just getting distracted but things felt like they kept jumping with little to no warning and I was left trying to fill in gaps. Whatever the cause, it was a bit more difficult for me to connect with the story and the characters.

About the halfway mark I was able to lock in! Things started to make more sense and characters and their magic were finally sticking with me. Despite my struggle to connect, I feel like this was well written. It never felt like the author was making choices out of convenience or simply to move the story along. The things that happened felt intentional and sensible. The fmc is very young but she wasn’t annoyingly immature. She was determined and resilient. And most importantly, incredibly powerful.

Erin Evans-Walker narrated all parts. She did such a great job with the many different accents. Great job bringing youth to the fmc’s voice without making her whiney.

While this is being marketed as a young adult book, I would classify this more in the straight up fantasy genre. The fmc is young but she’s not immature or naive. Shes experienced so much of the world prior to and during the main story. Any romance subplot felt pretty irrelevant. It would not have changed the plot at all if the mmc was a bff or something. Anyone can enjoy this and find something to relate to.

This is a dark epic YA fantasy that completely won me over with its characters, emotional depth, and myth-infused worldbuilding. This has some really cool elements right from the start. The hook is strong and immediately pulled me in, setting the tone for a story that doesn’t shy away from difficult choices or moral weight.

Satya is such a compelling protagonist. She’s resourceful, brave, and stubborn in ways that feel earned, but what really stood out was her internal struggle. The way the story explores her darker inner self (and how that darkness connects to mental health, grief, and self-worth) was excellent. Her growth is messy and painful in the right ways, and the resolution of that internal arc was genuinely satisfying. What an incredibly coming-of-age story!

The cast as a whole is another major strength. The characters are nuanced, varied, and feel like fully realized people rather than archetypes filling roles. Their motivations differ, clash, and evolve, which made the relationships (both friendly and romantic) feel genuine and emotionally grounded. The romance itself unfolds slowly and naturally, built on shared trauma, mistrust, and hard-earned understanding rather than instant attraction.

The worldbuilding is rich without being overwhelming. The magic system, especially the relics and the cost of wielding them, is great. Power demands sacrifice. The influence of Armenian mythology and folklore adds a depth and texture that makes the world feel so unique and real.

Overall, Light Weaver is dark without being bleak, emotional without being melodramatic, and expansive while still feeling deeply personal. If you love character-driven fantasy, myth-inspired worlds, and stories that explore the cost of power and survival, this one is absolutely worth picking up.

Thank you to the author for the ALC - the audiobook is wonderful - and Hidden Hollows Tours for the eARC. This review is voltunary and all opinions are my own.

Light Weaver by Lusine Torrosian was an incredible book from start to finish. Satya and her father are on a mission to bring bath her mother and little brother from the dead but when they are caught stealing from the golden king and Satya's father is taken and killed, she is forced to flee her village with her school teacher. He brings her to another village full of warriors and Sacreds, a group of magical people long thought to be extinct from the world. To protect the people still living in this world and to protect those she has grown to care for and love, Satya must dig deep to find the power living in herself. This is when she discovers sometihng about herself that she never thought was possible.

I really loved that even though there was a minor undercurrent of a possible romance, the book mainly focuses on Satya's development and how she comes into her powers. We get to see her grow into a formidable Light Weaver and we get to see the depth of her character. At her core, she is just a girl with a really big heart and a desire to save everyone.

There were a few times I was lost in the story, but since I listened to the audiobook, it's very likely that I spaced out without realizing it. This is a great book for anyone interested in fantasy with high stakes, rich world building, and characters you will love.

I also really love that this is based on Armenian mythology, which I know next to nothing about but after reading this book I am intent on learning more!

Thank you to Netgalley and Whisperweave Press for the ALC. All thoughts are my own!

Light Weaver by Lusine Torossian is a Young Adult fantasy with a touch of romance. Satya an 18-year-old thief steals a resurrection artifact from the Golden King she and she uncovers a dark secret. Her escape leads her to an enemy whose history is intertwined with her past.

The magic system in this book was really unique! I honestly found the trapping of souls to be particularly clever. The way the author showcases how and where they are trapped was definitely new for me I feel like.

The infusion of Armenian mythology was new to me as well. I have not read any books I don’t think that have this blend of mythology and culture in it so it was nice to have a fresh feel to the fantasy genre.

I loved Satye! What a strong and kick ass FMC. She is young but resilient. I like her attitude. She didn’t dwell when things didn’t go her way, she figured it out, and moved on! The only thing that I could think would have made this a a higher rating for me was a glossary of some sort. There were a few terms I was not familiar with and a lot of mythological names and things that would have been helpful to have more explanation on.

This definitely was an enjoyable and quick read!

Recommend to those who like light young adult fantasy with a little romance, danger, and intrigue!

Thank you to the author for the ARC
