I’m reading through a billionaire's private text messages.

And I found my name everywhere.

I’ve been cleaning the same billionaire’s penthouse every Friday for the last nine months.

Today, I was dusting the shelves in his office when his phone buzzed on the desk beside me.

I heard his shower start from down the hall, water rushing through marble pipes.

I glanced at his phone just long enough to see a message pop up, and I saw...

My name?

For a second I thought it was a mistake.

I picked up his phone and searched for my name.

It was EVERYWHERE.

Messages with his driver, his lawyer, even his security team, every single one mentioning me.

“She’s here now.”

“Don’t tell her anything.”

“Make sure she gets home safe.”

I was so focused on the messages that I didn't even hear the shower stop.

Suddenly, I heard footsteps behind me, and I turned to see him standing in the doorway with a towel slung low on his hips and water still dripping from his hair.

He stepped closer, voice low as he growled,

“You weren’t supposed to see that...”

Summary is misleading but it was ok

The summary was misleading. It seemed like a romance but honestly it was sad and constantly full of turmoil.
Plus, when I read a romance I want some romance. There really wasn't any. They just fell in love I guess? But they literally never kissed or slept together a single time in this story then they are just in love and together at the end. It's not even until the end when he basically just says he loves her. I also didn't like that you didnt get to see them after the events of the kidnapping and how they handled it. Kinda felt like a waste of a read. Needed to be longer I guess with more info. Good idea for a book just needed more.

2 stars for potential please invest in proofreaders
This appears to be the author's first book. The writing is pretty good but she's very wordy. Also needs an editor.
The MMC claims to have met his wife 5 years prior but their daughter is 5 years old.

So we learn in Chapter 1 that Anna's ex killed a woman and he threatened Anna if she spoke up he'd say it was her. But then he's arrested and supposedly she's the only witness and she says nothing and he goes to jail. I'm confused at how they discovered it was him and why he didn't follow thru on his threats. Ok so I guess we learn later that there was grainy video footage lol

"Those gray eyes, the same shade as his daughter's,"
"She looked me dead in the eye with those warm brown eyes that missed nothing."
"I returned to a penthouse that felt like a tomb, to a daughter who had looked at me with her mother's eyes"
"Her gray eyes, so like mine"
Seriously. Editors and proofreaders are necessary

"I'd been cleaning this penthouse for six months,"
"Mr. Spencer was at work—he always was on Fridays. I'd only met him a handful of times in six months"
"I've been cleaning the same billionaire's penthouse every Friday for the last nine months. Jack Spencer. CEO. Widower. Father to a silent little girl who'd somehow wormed her way into my damaged heart. He's usually home when I'm there, but he keeps to"
If I can catch all these mistakes as just a casual reader, imagine someone reading it with the intention of finding mistakes to fix ;)

The MMC told us that he accessed hallway camera feeds in the FMC building but then tells us
"Lease agreement for a studio apartment in a building with broken security cameras"

This author is bad at math. She continues to go back and forth between 5 years and 6 years as far as Elena goes. Then we have on a Tuesday the FMC tells us
"I'd spent the last five days avoiding being alone with Jack. It wasn't hard. I didn’t work at his home on weekends, so after Saturday's reading, I went straight home"
Even if we include Saturday evening, it's still not five days

"when the worst thing in my world was Daisy's backwards 'i.'"
How does one make a backwards i? I and i even backwards look the same lol

So, they installed a shit tonne of security including upping up building security and some how the building security didn't notice an unauthorized maintenance man strolling thru the halls?

Loved the characters. And the set up of the story. My problem was with the ending. It seemed very short. There wasn’t enough of a wrap up and promise for my romantic heart.

This is the first book I have read by this author and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was sad because of the subject matter but it was written quite well. We have an abused women who chose men because of her father abused her mother and at 12 years old she left because of his drinking and abuse. She told her daughter to take care of her father because she couldn't, abandoned by mother...hmm. Then we have her choices of men. After her father died, she chose men who abused her either physically or mentally or both until Carter. This is the story of Anna Stewart and Jack Spencer and his little daughter Daisy who had a prominent role in this book. Her last partner was Carter, who was a lawyer and a mean obsessive abusive person. He knew all about her life and used it against her. The last straw for her and Carter was him wanting to go spend time with his friends and of course she had to go or he would make her regret her not just going with him. Carter hits this woman while on the way to where they were going and he decided that he was going to leave the scene. He pulled over somewhere and threatened her life if she told anybody what happened. This book was about abuse, abandonment, what happens when a loved one is killed and the people who are left behind and what they go through. I didn't think I was going to like this book at first, but it turned out to be a very well written book.

This was a quick read for me. Book is 200 pages.

Anna has been in some bad relationships in the past. She left her recent relationship after he drove drunk and hit and killed somebody and he ran. He threatened her to say she did it and that she would go to jail.
She is trying to rebuild her life, and she is working as a housekeeper. She cleans the same apartment every Friday for Jack. Jack has a 5-year-old daughter who is mute after her mother's death 2 years prior.
In the story we find out that the person Carter killed is Jack's wife and he is trying to have revenge on Anna since she was a witness that didn't come forward.

Throughout the book you see the relationship between Jack and Anna change.
Their shared history catches up to them.

Book had suspense.
No spice but had some romance between Anna and Jack.

I recommend for an easy read.
The end of the book sets up an additional story. This story might involve Jack and Anna, but they might just be background characters.

Don’t bother, nothing made sense

Okay I’m not going to give spoilers but some detail is needed to understand. So stop now if you don’t want a detail spoiler.
Okay, things didn’t make sense, details changed in the middle of the story because it would sound better in that moment. Like a lawyer with a sports car and fancy dinners with colleagues, but later in the book he lived in a run down apartment in a sketchy neighborhood. Here’s another, hands numb tied behind her back. While held as a shield at gun point, she was able to get into his pocket, find the sharpest key without him knowing and hit him in the ribs with the key making him move just enough. How is that physically possible? So if you don’t mind all the details changing in the middle of the story or just not making sense how that could physically happen… read the book, BUT the story continues in the next book so I’ll never really know the ending.

The premise was good but never realized. A proofreader would have been so helpful as there were several inconsistencies.

- At first mention, Mr. Bounces is a rabbit and next two mentions it is a dog.
- The author talks about Daisy making a “backwards i”. ? That makes zero sense. Maybe an upside down “i”.
- Time passage is inconsistent. At one point the author writes five (5) days pass without seeing the MMC but she sees him the next Tuesday.
- Why is she working on a Saturday? Her schedule is M-F.
- The worst (maybe, there are so many), the author writes that the MFC tears overflowed and the next sentence said a single tear ran down her face.
- Multiple redundant statements.

Basically I got the feeling this was a writer with little experience and no editor, or even friends who could help her read the book for errors.

And why isn’t there a picture of this author online? That is suspicious. 2-stars for effort.

Dnf'd at 26%. The inconsistencies were killing me. From changing eyes from grey to brown to back to grey, year/time line/age inconsistencies it just made it unreadable. The final straw for me was MMC giving FMC 4k a month for her to watch his daughter and he says " thats probably more money than she makes in a month, even with her 3 jobs" idk bro, you are the one stalking her and knows exacly how much is in her bank account so you tell me?!?! Oh wait you did, multiple times a few chapters before. Idk was just odd to me and I couldn't continue.

I always feel so bad giving negative reviews because I know how much time and effort goes into writing a book but honestly this one needs more time and effort, sorry.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

I liked this book

I what I like about this book is the drama. Though the words seemed predictable during the police drama, I liked that the author took time with the drama. My only problems are that the characters were not well-developed, and the story was too short. For the most part, the story was well-written. I do plan to read Book 2 to see how the author progressed in writing more deeply. When I read a book I want to be completely immersed in the experience. I want to know the characters, feel their internal thoughts, which the author did well, but descriptions were scant. The story ended too soon for me.

Good but need more

I liked the story but it seemed too short. Its only 200pgs, I needed it to expand and explain the scenes. They needed more, the relationship needed more substance. It does end on a sort of cliffhanger but then just ends. I need the next book to hopefully answer the questions left by this book.
I did enjoy it I just feel this book could have been great if it could have been expanded and longer.

Good story

Really enjoyed this story until the ending which left it unclear whether it was cliffhanger for another story or if it leaves the relationship between the two main characters up for interpretation. It is not a typical love story…doesn’t build on the romantic relationship between the two main characters but has them bound together through the actions of the woman’s ex partner.

Good idea

The writing is ok, the plot was ok but moved fast. I mean, I am not sure why this is even in my recommendations. I wont be reading anymore of this author, who to be fair is completely inoffensive. Perhaps this was her first book? If you are looking for zero spice, short read, a little bit cutesy, somewhat dark themes but not the worst I have read triggers, with a weirdly obsessive billionaire. This is your book.

I liked where the story was going but then it kind of veered near the end. There were a few inconsistencies I caught. Where something was explained and a few pages later the same scene was explained differently and then it just takes you out of the story and ruins it. The build up into their “relationship” was incredibly lackluster. I really wanted to love it but just couldn’t get past the editing/inconsistencies and the very lackluster “romance” of the story

Meh.

This book is listed as a Romance and the little book blurb makes it seem like he's going to be the over protective type of guy that has been silently caring for her.

Yeah, no. The romance in this book happened off page (I'm not talking about spice [there was none] but the actual characters romance that would lead you to believe they had romantic feelings).

This book is more of a drama about abuse, loss, revenge and "healing".

Anna, was married to an abusive man, that she couldn't escape. Then her drunk husband hit and killed a woman who was running while Anna was in the car with him. After leaving the scene of the accident, he threatened Anna and told her if she told anyone he would convince them that Anna was the one driving. Her husband was eventually caught and put in prison. Anna tries to move forward with her life, but ends up meeting the widower of her husband's victim.

It was good until it wasn't.

It was a great start, then it was like common sense went out the window. VERY unrealistic events happened that just had me shaking my head. Also the blame for something out of someone's control even after seeing why such an event happened, There was still blame instead of understanding. Good book, good story, but expect fictional dumb things to happen.

Love from Grief

3.5 stars but rounded to 4

Unexpected love for sure. When fear and grief being 2 people together it proves the laughter of a child is strong enough to break any wall around the heart. Majority of the story deals with the aftermath of a devastating event and how everyone deals with the aftermath differently.

My only wish for the story was we got a little bit of a glimpse of them finally being together I felt like the story just kind of ended.

This book had me drawn in from the beginning. It was a great story but it could have used some better editing though. Like when he finds her going through his phone after he got out of the shower he was just in a towel. He did all this arguing and moving around with Anna so you assume he still in a towel but somehow he's magically is in a bathrobe. There were a couple times where the same lines would be repeated a couple pages later. There were a lot of "face as pale as paper". This book also contained no romance whatsoever. I not talking about it needed spice but maybe a kiss, hug or at least a loving touch. Also the ending was rough. No closure whatsoever between the mmc and fmc. I would have gone with 2 stars but I need to give Daisy her own star. I absolutely loved her!

So I DNF’d at 28%. The description of the book honestly gives you no idea about the contents of the book. You’re pushed into the deep end from the start with abuse that isn’t even hinted at in the description. Beyond that, the writing is lacking and the lack of attention to detail makes me think this is AI. With enough contradictions at only 74 pages in, I finally had to DNF.

a nice slow build but…

The ending of the book left me confused. There is only a HFN and a partial cliffhanger. There may some triggers so check before reading. Although it was a decent read, I probably wouldn’t have read this book had I known certain things beforehand. And I definitely wouldn’t reread it. But it was a good book for the most part.

fabulous read

What an amazing book, thankyou Harper Lawson I love to read romantic and erotic books, however sometimes it’s so refreshing to read such an exciting fast moving story. I loved Jack and Anna’s story. She came out stronger and Daisy was such a wonderful support character.

conflicted 😐

So the summary was way misleading, so was the ad on IG that brought me to this book really thought it was as a romance but it felt like it was more of a mystery then anything else. I kept reading hoping to see when the romance was going to happen but then I was 88% deep and lost all hope. It was a good read just wished the summary wasn’t misleading.

huh?

The story was great until the end. Is that actually a happily ever after? Is that a cliffhanger? If you can’t tell, then the entire story turns into a suck fest that wasted my time.

A bit different than most romances, there really isn’t a ton of angst and there isn’t any heat in the story, but it is a really cute story of Going from wanting revenge to wanting love. I definitely didn’t realize it would be as clean of a romance as it was, but I enjoyed it nevertheless.

Quick and easy read. The story eased right into the drama, not making it some giant bombshell or guess who game. There was no miscommunication and the FMC actually listened when the danger was going to affect her. Didn’t pull some heroine actions which was nice.

This book left a lot to be desired. The way this book was advertised was extremely misleading. if you're looking for a romance or smut this is far from it. This revolves around abuse, vengeance, and loss more than anything.
