Christie Gordon is the author of steamy, heartfelt gay romance novels that explore the emotional journey of men discovering themselves and finding love. It all started when she stumbled upon MM fanfiction by accident—and let's just say, it was love at first read. Inspired by the genre's mix of passion and complexity, Christie transitioned from reading about men in love to writing her own stories. After taking fiction writing classes at a local community college, she published her first MM romance novel in 2009 with a small press, and she’s never looked back.
When she’s not writing, Christie watches boys-love dramas, creates digital art, or is serenaded by her snoring one-eyed rescue pug. A graduate of both Electrical Engineering (BS) and Business Administration (MBA), she spends her "day job" navigating the high-tech world, but her heart belongs to the characters who live in her books. Christie currently resides in the Phoenix metro area, though she’s also lived in California’s Bay Area and Minnesota (which probably explains her deep love of pumpkin spiced latte coffees and hockey).
She’s also the proud mother of two young-adult sons who provide plenty of material for stories—usually in the form of chaotic shenanigans. But no matter what, Christie’s always up for a new adventure, whether it's on the page or in the real world.

This turned out to be a fitting ending to the Desert Football series when Travis/Tex, last unattached member of the Desert Dog House, finally meets his match. It’s senior year, and three ASU football players remain in the house. Malik and Grey have hooked up, leaving Travis the odd man out. He’s been concentrating on classes and football since his breakup Sophmore year with his long-distance boyfriend, but seeing Malik and Grey so wrapped up in each other, the desire to have someone of his own is starting to take hold. When he hires a tutor to help him with the difficult math in a business class, there is an instant connection to the quiet, controlled man, but Travis has no idea if the tutor, Colton, would be interested in him. It was fun watching Tex try to figure out whether any interest was on Colton’s side, since his interested glances and body language didn’t match the verbal message. Colton has years worth of baggage he is dealing with, making it difficult for him to accept that he is interested in Tex, and at times the hot, then cold, drives Tex crazy. But Tex is willing to give Colton all the time he needs to figure things out, willing to keep things in the friend zone in public, always there with encouragement and support, not giving up on this intriguing man. There are pitfalls along the way, especially an annoying other student of Colton’s that bring out the green-eyed monster in Tex, as well as Colton’s relationship with his dad, but perseverance pays off and Tex gets his guy in the end.

The characters were engaging, there was humor and laughter, as well as tears and sadness, but the constant support Tex offered Colton helped him face some truths about his life and get the professional help he needed to process the trauma from his late teens. Even though Tex was the younger of the two, he had a maturity that really helped him navigate the ups and downs they went through as Colton came to terms with his past, his sexuality, and his ability to embrace his relationship with Tex in an open way. Tex meanwhile had his own support group, to help him when things seemed harder as the relationship became more serious but still not out in the open. The relationship seemed to develop quickly, but I was surprised when Colton became so needy when his control slipped. His anxiety kept him pretty wrapped up most of the time. Tex was good for him in that respect, letting Colton be seen and able to act more like himself.

One thing I really appreciated about this series and other series from Christie is the cross-over of characters from books within a series, as well as references to characters from other series she has written. You get crossovers from the hockey series, the football guys, and members of the band Knot Me from the Rock U series. It’s always enjoyable to catch up with tidbits about characters whose names you recognize, even though you may have read their story months or years ago. It’s like a reunion with old friends, catching up on life events and keeping the characters alive in my mind.

Any of these books could be read as a standalone, but they are more enjoyable read in order. You get the richness of the back stories of the characters as they come into their own when their own story arrives. The world is well developed, it is easy to visualize places and things like the action of football or hockey games, all woven in seamlessly, you can imagine yourself in a restaurant or bar near a college campus, or insert yourself into a conversation and feel you are there. All are reasons which make me happy to accept an ARC from this author, knowing I will get a story that stays with me and adds to a growing group of book friends created in her world. I enjoyed the book, and this is my voluntary review.

Travis "Tex" Rowlings is a proud, out-and-proud offensive lineman for ASU who is facing a major hurdle: his business analytics course because of the math content. Enter Colton Reed, a brilliant but guarded student who uses his strict control over tutoring as a crutch to avoid falling back into old, destructive habits. While Tex has the support of his accepting parents, Colton is deeply closeted, terrified of losing his father—his only remaining family—after the tragic loss of his mother years ago. As their study sessions turn into something deeper, Tex’s unwavering patience begins to dismantle the high walls Colton has built to protect his fragile heart.

I absolutely loved this book; it was a sweet and heartfelt romance that kept me hooked from beginning to end! Colton is such a complex character with a traumatic past that has left a real mark on him. He uses control as a way to cope with his grief and avoid the "crutches" of his past, and I felt so much for him as he struggled with his people-pleasing personality—especially with someone like Sara, who I disliked immensely, and was very pleased when she disappeared.

Tex was the perfect balance for Colton. He is such a wonderful, patient character who realised early on that he had feelings and did everything possible to help Colton through his crises without ever pushing or rushing him. Seeing Tex give Colton the strength to seek healthy help for his trauma was incredibly moving. Their chemistry is undeniable, and watching Colton slowly learn to trust and let himself be loved was really wonderful and well written.

It was great to "visit" with the guys from the previous books again and see how this story technically happens alongside Malik and Grey’s book. Even though Colton’s coming out to his father didn't go perfectly, I was happy to see him find his confidence and earn his HEA.

Watching Colton and Tex navigate their complicated feelings was both heart-wrenching and undeniably beautiful. Together, they created a romance that felt genuine, emotional, and full of heart. This book gave me all the feels, and I loved every moment of Colton and Tex's story. Their connection was absolutely magnetic, making it impossible not to root for them from the very first page to the last.

This series is fantastic and I highly recommend it to anyone who loves a romance with genuine emotional depth!

The 5-book Desert Football series by Christie Gordon comes to its natural conclusion in Blindside Lesson, with all of the housemates in the “Desert Dog” queer football house finally finding their happily ever after.

ASU college senior and offensive lineman on the college football team, Travis (Tex), is the remaining household member not paired up. Since ending a serious relationship with his high school sweetheart, Dante, a few years prior, he has been more focused on his football career and academics than romance, but after seeing his friends coupling off one by one, he feels like maybe that’s something he might want as well. He lucks into meeting Colton when searching for a tutor for his business analytics class. He expects his tutor to be a nerd. And he may be nerdy, but Colton is also exactly Travis’ type. Travis is unclear whether Colton is even interested in men. But he surely wants to find out and goes to great lengths to solve that mystery.

Colton is a grad student at ASU, having moved to Arizona from Rochester, NY where he grew up. Colton had gone through some personal trauma for a time before moving to Arizona and is still struggling with its impact on his sexuality when first meeting Travis. He is bisexual, but has actively been avoiding dating men for reasons I won’t share here to avoid spoilers.

Though they are both attracted to each other from the start, Colton is hesitant to pursue any kind of relationship, especially a public one, with Travis due to concerns about rules about tutors not dating their students but also related to his prior history. It takes encouragement from Colton’s best friend, Evan (an AHL hockey player) and a lot of patience and support on Travis’ part before their eventual happy ending.

Blindside Lesson takes place in an overlapping timeline to book 4, Rushing Closer. Ideally, the series works best when read in order because there are many references to prior main characters though it would still be an enjoyable read, albeit slightly confusing at times, without the backstories.

I really love how all of Christie Gordon’s books take place in a continuing timeline. Like the band featured in her Rock U series shows up in this book, along with the queer-owned rainbow bakery. Colton’s BFF Evan is the little brother of one of the hockey players in her Desert Ice Hockey series. So if you enjoy reading books in a series, start at the beginning and you’ll have an ample collection of stories to binge.

My one nit picky comment…the word “nice” is used too much. I don’t know how many times Travis mentioned making a nice breakfast, a nice meal, a nice shirt, etc. More descriptive adjectives please.

I am super excited to return to hockey when we get BFF Evan’s story in Gordon’s upcoming Desert Elite hockey series. But Blindside Lesson and the rest of the Desert Football series is definitely worth a read.

Tex and Colton are beautiful.

We were introduced to Tex the beginning of the Desert Football series and saw how he developed into a kind, caring friend to his housemates and their partners. So when he starts to struggle with his degree coursework, it is suggested he get a tutor. In contrast, we meet Colton, who is a very smart but insecure and troubled young man.

Tex is instantly drawn to Colton and his usually impeccable gaydar is telling him that Colton is, in some way, queer but when questioned, he denies it. Colton is also attracted to Tex but refuses to be the person he believes he will become by giving into his attraction, so agrees to a date with a pushy female student of his, even though he feels nothing for her, knowing it is against the rules as her tutor.

Colton quickly feels safe around Tex and tells him about his past trauma, despite only ever having spoken about it with his best friend from childhood, Evan Crosby. Evan tells him to follow his heart and not some societal expectation to stay in favour with his bigoted, distant father. When Colton finally relents and makes his move with Tex, he remains in a perpetual state of anxiousness at repeating the past. Tex encourages him to seek professional help to begin the healing process all whilst he remains patient, giving Colton the reassurances he needs to progress.

As a logical person, Colton is quick to respond to therapy and make changes to his behaviours, including using different coping strategies. As he accepts himself more, he lets Tex in more and they begin a relationship outside of the tutelage but still in secret. This becomes an issue when Tex’s ex boyfriend, now friend, comes to stay for thanksgiving. Dante suspects Colton may be queer and fancying Tex so tests him, unbeknownst to Tex or Colton. Once they confirm Dante’s suspicions, he fast becomes their ally.

Being somebody who struggles with self confidence and has a lot of anxiety, I found Colton to be a very believable character and detect an indication of neurodivergence, though this is purely my suspicion and never mention or confirmed by the author. I have never had to directly deal with bigoted people before so the pace at which Colton’s dad begins to relinquish his old ideas round sexuality did seem a bit fast but my conclusion there was that he loved his som more than his outdated ideas.

This could not have been a more perfect ending to the Desert Football series. Christie has left it open to potentially explore the lives of the previous residents of Desert Dog house. I was already looking forward to the new Desert Elite Hockey series releasing in June but now I’ve met Evan, I’m looking forward to it even more.

ARC REVIEW
BLINDSIDE LESSON (Desert Football 5) di Christie Gordon

Out: 21/04/2026

English Review:
Blindside Lesson is the latest book in the Desert Football series by Christie Gordon. Like the others in the series, this book features a football player Travis, known as Tex to his friends, and Colton, his tutor which POVs immediately made me grow fond of his character.
I loved how Christie Gordon portrays him with his fears making him feel real to me.
Tex is a very mature guy, and I adored him because Christie Gordon portrayed the perfect man: he never loses his temper, he’s always willing to listen, and above all, he’s always been kind and patient with Colton—I can see why falling in love with him was so inevitable. The story features some side characters that honestly I didn't find lovable at all and for this reason I was on the edge of my seat the whole way through the book because I was scared something bad would happen at any moment.
I recommend not only this book but the entire series, which is really well written and exciting!
Can't wait for the new hockey series with Ethan, Colton's best friend!
Thank you Christie Gordon for my Arc Copy!

BLINDSIDE LESSON - CHRISTIE GORDON

This is book 5 in the Desert Football series, and we have enjoyed seeing Tex previously and now it’s time for his story.

Senior year and one of his final classes is stressing him out. Tex discusses his challenges with the course at home and Grey and Malik suggest the possibility of Tex getting a tutor. They let him know where the university website has the information and he agrees he needs to pass this class so he can graduate. He also promised his parents he would go into the NFL draft with a degree, and he doesn’t want to disappoint them.

Colton agrees to take on a new tutoring student, but wasn’t prepared for how attractive he found Tex and had to keep reminding himself he could not date a student and also, his dad wouldn’t be happy if he was gay. His best friend Evan encouraged him to take a chance and see where things would go with Tex, and told Colton he deserved to be true to himself.

Thrown in the mix, one of Colton’s other students, Sara, wanted to date him and he had a hard time telling her no, even though he knew he was not interested in her romantically.

Tex found Colton very distracting and he figured he was straight when he mentioned he was going to go out with Sara after she stopped the tutoring lessons. But Tex was a bit jealous, and pushed for Colton to hang out with him as friends. But the more time they spend together, the more Tex realizes he is falling for Colton, and Colton finally admits he is falling for Tex as well.

There is some trauma from Colton’s past that Tex helps him find a way to deal with through suggesting therapy. And when his father comes to town unexpectedly, it gives Colton a chance to finally confront him about his lack of a presence when his mom was dying and right afterwards, as well as admitting he is bi-sexual and about some of the trauma he dealt with losing his mom. This brings their relationship back on track and both men agree to do better in the future.

Like all Christie Gordon books, the reader is engaged immediately and will be taken on the journey with her characters all while enjoying visits from past teammates and friends so you can catch up with how their HEA’s are going. There is nobody who writes a better found family group than Christie, so take time to discover this wonderful author, you will be happy you did!

The Student showed the Tutor the way to Happiness

Author Christie Gordon employs exceptional storytelling to provide a fresh perspective on familiar themes surrounding college life, particularly the experiences of young men, athletes seeking academic assistance, and personal challenges. In this narrative, she skillfully explores the frustrations of Travis "Tex" Rowlings, who requires tutoring to address his difficulties in mathematics.

Colton Reed, the tutor pursuing a master's degree, takes on this role to alleviate financial burdens. However, he becomes entwined with two students who seek a deeper connection with him: a female classmate and Tex, a openly gay football player with aspirations of entering the NFL draft.

Colton bears the emotional scars of a challenging upbringing, having cared for his mother while she battled cancer during his father's frequent absences for work. This experience left Colton with a profound sense of responsibility and unresolved emotions, particularly in regard to his father's lack of support. As a result, he has developed a tendency to remain withdrawn, having experienced a significant relationship that ended poorly and grappling with a father who exhibits homophobic attitudes.

Tex, however, perceives the pain that Colton carries and reaches out with compassion and understanding. His maturity and the depth of his insights provide the emotional support Colton desperately needs.

Gordon adeptly intertwines Colton's anger toward his father with the unexpected joy and solace he finds in his relationship with Tex. Tex offers thoughtful guidance and genuinely cares for Colton's well-being, even as he becomes involved with Colton's struggles, including his historical battles with substance abuse in the wake of his mother’s passing.

Numerous poignant scenes in the narrative highlight Tex's nurturing nature. A particularly notable moment occurs when Colton meets Tex's family, where he is warmly welcomed and embraced as one of their own.

This work is part of the Desert Football series, and readers can anticipate further developments in Tex and Colton’s journey in future installments.

I received a free copy. This review is submitted voluntarily.

Travis (Tex) Rowlings is an offensive lineman with ASU originally from Austin, Texas. He’s having trouble with his business analytics course because of the math content. He thus ends up with Colton Reed, an MBA student, as his tutor. Tex is out and proud, but Colton is closeted. He realized after the death of his mother that he is bisexual. He’s in the closet mostly because his father has made homophobic comments and he’s afraid of losing his last family member.

The author has done a good job of showing how opposites attract. Tex, with his accepting parents, is a wonderful character who realizes early that he has feelings for Colton and does everything he can to help Colton through his crises. On the other hand, the latter is quite complex. He seldom goes out and he has a very people-pleasing personality, as shown by his difficulty refusing advances from Sara for whom he does not have romantic feelings despite “dating” Tex. Her attempts to claim Colton are quite funny, all while being sad at the same time. Colton has control issues, having lost control after his mother’s death, and he has conflicting feelings toward his father, who was absent most of the time because of his sales job and his drinking. Tex sticks by him through all of this, working toward getting Colton to become a good human being. They are aided by a number of secondary characters. Evan, an AHL hockey defenseman and formerly Colton’s only real friend, appears frequently, offering good advice and cheering on the two MCs in their relationship. Malik and Grey (from the previous chapter) are Tex’s roommates encourage him, though they don’t really know about his relationship, yet they suspect. Tex’s family and Colton’s father make brief but important appearances. The plot contains a fair bit of angst, not normally my cup of tea, but it was used effectively by the author.

Reading of previous books in the series isn’t required but is certainly helpful for keeping track of the characters.

Blindside Lesson is the final installment of Christie's "Desert Football" series about a collective of out football players at Arizona State University. Interesting twist is this one takes place concurrently with the previous installment featuring Grey & Malik. This time it's offensive lineman Travis (alias "Tex") and his Business Analytics tutor Colton who are featured MCs, with Tex's housemates in the Desert Dogs hacienda Malik & Grey who are the side characters. That's tutor Colton on the cover.

It's never explained, but I assumed that tutoring is Colton's side hustle for cash while he is pursuing his advanced business degree. Tex runs into trouble with his Business Analytics course when it's a lot more math than he can handle during football season. So he hires Colton to tutor him so he can stay eligible for varsity football, where he's the starting left guard on the offensive line. Tex is headed for the NFL draft if he keeps his grades up, and Colton is that mysterious nerd that we all know at least one of - so hot, but he doesn't realize it. Sparks fly from the first tutoring session, and Christie takes us on a wild ride to the HEA in the Epilogue.

The angst is pretty mild in this one - Colton's Mom passed from cancer when he was 18. His father has always been distant, but at the same time he can be controlling. So Colton's urges to hook-up with Tex get all twisted when Colton tries to balance pleasing his homophobic Dad while trying to please himself. Once Tex & Colton get irritating tutoring-student Sara swept out of the picture, they guys can't hold back their urges and Colton comes to terms with realizing he's got to come out to his Dad, damn the consequences.

Christie gives us a nice reunion of all the guys who have lived in the Desert Dogs hacienda in the Eplogue, which ties-up all the loose ends nicely. Golden Retriever Tex and cute nerd Colton make a great couple and it's pretty heartwarming when all the barriers they face to their coupledom finally get removed and they commit. Enjoy this end to a great series - ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Travis/Tex & Colton

"He made me feel safe, desired, attractive...all the emotions I hadn't felt in so long."

"Tex gave me what no one else could--confidence in myself. That I was worthy of being desired and loved."

Travis is a complete sweetheart and while immediately and passionately drawn to Colton, he never tries to overstep any bounds because he's not just like that. There's a lot of emotional growth in this story, mostly from Colton's side because Travis is pretty aware of who he is and how he wants to live his life, which is great to see because it's not always easy to have that feeling in place for a college student. Watching these two talk everything through and develop their relationship and the romance was really sweet and a lot of fun. And as it always is for any of the series I've read from Christy Gordon, the Desert Dogs are going to be ones I'm going to have to read again, but I'll probably have to backtrack just because the universe is so interconnected that it's fun when you have a random cameo in this last football book about the lead singer of the rock band at least two series ago.

I absolutely disliked Sara, and her absolute persistence with trying to get together with Colton. She goes way too far, way beyond the preferred interactions between people, especially possible romance partners. She doesn't listen to Colton and she actively puts herself in between Colton and Travis. The resolution of her part in the storyline was acceptable, but felt like it needed a bit more. She was all over the place, and then she was just gone and barely mentioned again. I didn't want her to be in the way, but she didn't deserve an easy brush off.

I'm really looking forward to the desert hockey that we're going to get coming next with Evan. He didn't once talk about his own sexuality with Colton, but he was clearly an ally to begin with anyway, so it'll be fun to see him discover himself or at least understand himself better. It's always fun when we can see a side character from more than one story come through with his own.

*One of the best elements in MM romance these days is the prevalent use of the found family trope because it's utilized in so many different but effective ways by each author. And I really love the way that Christie brings her guys together in their found families because of the way they are so supportive with one another and there for each other. And you can tell there's real love, admiration and respect between them. And when we get the chance to connect multiple series within the same universe, you get to experience a wider bubble of that found family because while some of them have loving, faithful and supportive blood families, found families are chosen and fit your personality and your commonalities so well.

I received an authorized copy of this book and am volunteering my honest review.

I waited so patiently for Tex's story, it is almost fitting how patiently he waited for Colton.

I really loved this story. I’ve been looking forward to it for a while after reading the rest of the series.

Tex has always been the kind, caring, and supportive friend throughout the series, and now it was finally his turn for a happy ending. He found it with his tutor, Colton.

Colton agrees to tutor Tex at first on a strictly platonic basis (which, of course, didn’t last long). He’s a quiet, controlled character who struggles with PTSD stemming from his mom’s death and the actions that followed. Tex muscles his way into his life (gently) helping Colton on a path to recovery with his support and a little nudge towards therapy. Their first obstacle comes in the for of a female named Sara who I really disliked, I am sure most of us did. She just went an extra mile to make straight women everywhere look extra bad. After overcoming that small mountain, they came face to face with the reality of Colton's dad. Through their hurdles, and with the help of their friends (I am so glad Colton had Evan) the two came out on top, together and in love. This was not an angsty story, it was a story of quiet strength through adversity, allowing oneself to heal with support, caring and kindness. I really enjoyed it. Overall, Tex has been my favorite character in this series.

On a side note, I loved the glimpse into Grey and Malik’s story as it unfolded alongside Tex and Colton’s. That was really well done :)

Although this ending felt bittersweet, the epilogue made me sad knowing that this series was over, I really look forward to the next cast of characters... Evan needs love to!

Travis also known as Tex is part of the football team in college and was hoping to be drafted into the NFL after this semester. But he had a problem he was failing in his business class when it comes to maths so he looks for a tutor and this is where he finds Colton.
Colton likes rules he knew what he wanted and he kept to the plan. Colton had lost his mum and Harboured a lot of ill feeling towards his father who was never around and Colton basically had to watch her die. But there was also parts of Colton that he knew his dad would never accept and as his only relation he didn’t wanna rock the boat but the instant attraction he felt towards Travis was troubling. He even agreed to go on a date with a girl who he didn’t fancy to ward off feelings for Travis.
Travis was having none of it even after they shared a kiss. They agreed to just be friends and get him past this course. But it seemed every time that they were together the attraction just kept growing.
I’ve got to say, I enjoyed this story. I liked Tex he has such a great personality. And I think it’s safe to say when he’s determined he makes it happen. I did find that he was quite jealous and possessive at times, but I found that of Colton as well. I understand Colton‘s need to keep everything on the loan down but there were times it just hurt my heart for Tex. It’s safe to say these two have a connection they share this beautiful chemistry and the passion is off the chance. It was great to see the old gang back together again.
Really looking forward to Evans book

I’m so sad this series is over😭 I have enjoyed every single couple and loved their journey to their happiness.

Colton really broke my heart. His struggles to accept his sexuality was so painful to read. He suppressed that side of him for so long that it was taking a toll on his mental health.

Having to cope with his grief the best way he could made him ashamed of who he was. He saw his bisexuality as losing control and held himself back from acting on his desires.

That was until he met Tex. The moment the football player stepped into his life, Colton knew he wouldn’t be able to stay away from him. Tex made him want things he had made himself forget.

The moment Tex met Colton, he couldn’t get him out of his mind. The more time they spent together, the harder it was for Tex not fall for him.

I loved how patient Tex was with Colton. He never pressured him to come out if he wasn’t ready. He always encouraged him to do what he felt comfortable with even if that meant keeping their relationship a secret.

I was so mad at Colton’s father for being so oblivious to Colton’s pain and grief. Colton had to go through it basically alone. Thank God for his best friend who was there when he needed him most.

I’m so glad that Colton found Tex. He needed to find someone who would loved all sides of him regardless of how ugly they were. Tex loved him just the way he was and was willing to wait for as long as it took for Colton to accept himself.

“𝗜’𝗺 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝘆𝗲𝘁, 𝗯𝘂𝘁 𝗜’𝘃𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝘀𝗼 𝗳𝗮𝗿.”

I have really loved this whole series a lot. I think Tex and Colton were the perfect way to finish it. I’m excited whatever Christie has in store for us next.

I’ve read the first book in the Desert Football series, and now the fifth - I need to go back to read the rest.

Overall this is a really cute, easy read - it sets up both Travis/Tex and Colton’s interest right from the start. Colton’s oblivious to his own attractiveness, Tex is drawn to guys who have no clue of how hot they are - and it’s a nerd/athlete MM - some of my favourite tropes.

I was a little put off in the first few chapters with how overly familiar these two are with each other - Tex especially. It felt a little weird seeing as they barely knew each other, but I settled into it the more the story moved along.

Poor Colton with his self acceptance and control issues, and how gorgeous was Tex’s interest and support? I’ve read a few of Gordon’s books and I’ve just realised to me I get a YA feel mixed with a solid amount of decent spice. And this book was that for me for sure.

There’s a little family drama for one MC to work through to go along with the boys being able to get together publicly, as well as some other outside issues. Colton is a little more popular than he expects. But they do (of course) get there and this is a fairly low angst, sweet story that’s easy to get lost in as per usual for Gordon’s books.

Malik and Grey feature extensively in this - they’re the prior book’s MCs - and it seems their story may run concurrently with this. I definitely need their book so will add it to my TBR. And looking forward to the new series with a familiar face too.

I received an ARC and this is my honest review.

Tex’s story was definitely worth the wait, and this ended up being one of my favourites in the series.

I really liked how the relationship started with something simple, just tutoring sessions and slowly built into something more. The attraction is there early on, but it doesn’t feel rushed. There’s a lot of hesitation on both sides, which makes sense given the situation, and it adds to that tension of should they or shouldn’t they.

Tex was such a great main character. He’s this big, confident football player, but there’s a softer, more uncertain side to him when it comes to feelings and figuring himself out. His bi awakening felt natural, especially with how confused and then very sure, he becomes about Colton.

Colton, on the other hand, is much more guarded. Between the professional boundaries, his family issues, and not being fully out, he has a lot more holding him back. I appreciated that his journey wasn’t just about the romance, but also about facing his past and starting to be honest about who he is.

Their dynamic really worked for me, there’s sweetness, tension, and a lot of emotional growth on both sides. And as always with this series, the found family element adds that extra layer of warmth, especially getting little glimpses of previous characters.

Overall, a really engaging mix of forbidden romance, self-discovery, and emotional healing, with just the right amount of heat and heart.

Tex finally gets his turn to fall in love. After supporting his best friends through four books in the Desert Football series “Tex”, Travis, finds himself facing the pressure of pursuing his NFL dreams and falling in love.
Tex needs help with one of his classes or he is not going to pass. He finds a tutor who specializes in the help he needs. Colton, is an introverted graduate student who works at keeping his head down, staying out of trouble, and hanging out with his best friend. While Tex is open and proud about being gay, Colton fights with himself on his sexuality and tries to bury his bisexuality. Until he meets Tex and the two make an instant connection. Colton can no longer deny who he is, with his growing feelings for Tex. While Tex is confident and easy going, Colton is insecure and unsteady, his life impacted by trauma he never dealt with. Tex knows he has something amazing with Colton and he works to help Colton see just how special he really is.
This is such an amazing book. It is such a great send off to the Desert Football guys. Tex has always been the steady friend in all of the books so it was perfect to save him for the end. He and Colton are a great combination of strong and supportive. I cannot wait to see where Christie Gordon takes us next.

4.25 stars

This is book five in the author’s Desert Football series and features Tex (aka Travis), a displaced Texas linebacker for ASU and Colton, Tex’s control obsessed tutor.

Initially, I wasn’t all that wild about Colton; he always came across, to me, as being too rigid and abrupt. It wasn’t until I was thinking through everything I knew of him in order to write this review that I kinda understood him more and where he came from. In hindsight, funnily enough, I like him more now than I did while reading this book. Tex on the other hand, I loved him from the very beginning. He had this big, larger than life, Golden Retriever type personality that drew me in instantly and kept me reading even when Colton kinda put me off at times.

If you’ve read and enjoyed any of the other books in the series, you’ll be happy to know that, at the end, we got several cameos of some of our favorite couples with Malik and Grey, from Rushing Closer, playing a large part in this book as it seemed to be running concurrently with this one. The whole series has been wonderful and Tex has cemented himself in my heart as one of my favorites. I urge you to check ‘em all out as there’s not a dud among ‘em! 4.25 stars (only because it’s not QUITE a rounded up 5 star)

I received a copy of this book for free but am voluntarily leaving a review.

This was such a heartfelt, emotional read and a really satisfying ending to the Desert Football series.

Colton completely broke my heart. He’s carrying so much from his past, and you can see how tightly he holds onto control just to cope. Watching him struggle, especially with his family and everything he’s been through, was tough at times.

And then there’s Tex… honestly, he was exactly what Colton needed. So patient, so steady, and just constantly showing up for him without pushing too hard. I loved how supportive he was, giving Colton the space to work through things while still making it clear he wasn’t going anywhere.

Their dynamic really worked. It’s a bit of a push and pull at times, especially with Colton’s hot and cold moments, but Tex handled it all with so much maturity. Seeing Colton slowly open up, trust, and start to believe he deserved love was really beautiful.

There’s a great mix of emotions here, some humour, some heavier moments, and a lot of heart. I also loved seeing familiar characters pop up again. It always feels like catching up with old friends and makes the whole world feel more connected.

Overall, this was a really touching, character-driven romance with strong emotional depth. Definitely worth it, especially if you’ve been following the series and I’m excited to explore more in this world.

When Tex’s class is a little bit harder than he expected, he knows it’s time to get a tutor. He just never expected to fall for Colton. The moment they meet, Tex knows he is in trouble. Colton is sweet and smart and just everything Tex could want. But is there a chance that Colton feels the same? Colton has been through a lot. He lost his mom when he was eighteen, his dad was barely around and he has just never coped well with his grief. He likes to be in control. And he knows he needs it. But he never expects to get feelings for Tex. He has spent so long hiding that part of himself and Tex threatens to break down every wall he has. But the more time they spend together, the harder it is to keep those walls up and it’s only a matter of time until they come crumbling down. Can Colton be brave enough to embrace his feelings for Tex? Tex and Colton were a great match. I loved that Tex was able to help Colton get the support he needed and be there by his side as he gained his confidence to be the person he was always meant to. Tex was also just so sweet and supportive. He didn’t rush or push Colton, he let him know he was there by his side in any way he needed. A great way to end this series! You don’t want to miss this one!

Blindside Lesson is the fifth book in the Desert Football series and follows Tex and Colton. Tex is struggling academically and turns to tutoring—only to be caught off guard by his instant attraction to Colton. From their first meeting, their connection is undeniable.

Colton carries heavy emotional baggage. After caring for and then losing his mother at the end of high school, and growing up without much support, he’s built barriers around himself. Control is how he copes, but the more time he spends with Tex, the harder it becomes to keep those defenses in place.

The patience and care Tex shows is everything. He never pushes, instead offering steady support and giving Colton the space to face his fears in his own time. Watching Colton gradually come into himself, with Tex supporting him every step of the way, is incredibly rewarding.

Their relationship feels genuine and emotional, balancing vulnerability with passion, and both characters are easy to connect with. I also enjoyed seeing familiar faces from earlier books, which adds a nice sense of continuity.

This is a heartfelt and satisfying story that blends emotional depth, romance, and strong character growth, highlighting healing, acceptance, and the power of finding love when you least expect it.

‘Blindside Lesson’ is the fifth installment in the captivating Desert Football series. Although it doesn’t continue directly from ‘Book 4,’ it offers a fresh perspective by focusing on Tex, his romance with Colton, and the ongoing journeys of the previous main characters, Greyson and Malik. This shift not only introduces new dynamics but also weaves in nostalgic elements from the previous book.

Colton's introduction is a significant part of this narrative. Despite lacking confidence and sports expertise, Colton finds a perfect match in Tex. The seamless development of their relationship is the highlight of 'Blindside Lesson.' Their sweet story adds depth to the overall series and cements the continuation of the Desert Football Series world.

An enduring quality of this series is its honoring of past characters. In ‘Blindside Lesson,’ you will appreciate brief updates on past characters, ensuring that both new readers and longtime followers can enjoy the evolving tale. This approach enriches the plot and creates a more immersive experience, making you feel part of a broader family within the desert football community. Tex and Colton’s romance, along with familiar faces from previous books, offers a delightful blend of new beginnings and cherished memories.

"Kiss him and claim him as mine.....I was out of my fucking mind."

"I was stuck between wanting what I couldn’t have and having what I didn’t want."

"...you both deserve to love in the open.”

"It’s pretty obvious to anyone with eyes how much you love each other.”

Travis aka Tex is one of the last ones left in the Desert Dog House along with Grey and Malik (who got their HEA in book four) and appear again in this book to help Tex.

Tex needs to pass his business class to graduate, but the math is causing him problems. Tex's friends suggest a tutor and he finds graduate business student Colton.

The two form a fast friendship and almost faster romantic connection. But with one slight problem, Colton isn't supposed to date the students he tutors. Colton also isn't out to most people or his father and still struggles over his mother's death. Tex helps direct Colton to the mental health healing he needs. After Colton and his father have a much belated confrontation, therapy and Tex help them reconnect and heal their relationship.

Tex and Colton work together to find friendship, love, and better mental health. Lots of love and spice as they work toward their HEA. A good ending to the Desert Football series. And a tease for what's next in the new Desert Elite Hockey series.

I recieved an ARC of this book. Nothing was promised or give. In exchange for the review.

“My heart swelled, and I hugged him to my chest. I could picture coming home to him like this every day. Would it happen for us? Would he follow me to whatever city I’d play in after graduation? We had time to discuss it. It was amazing how quickly my feelings had grown for him. It had to mean he was the person for me.”

Blindside Lesson by Christie Gordon is the fifth and last book in the Desert Football series. It’s Tex and Colton’s story. I’ve been waiting for Tex’s story since the first book and I’ve loved every chapter in it, and it’s a special way to wrap up the Desert Football series. I’ve loved reading about the guys in the “Desert Dog” house, but saving Tex for the last book has been something I’ve really enjoyed.

Tex is a total sweetheart, he’s an out-and-proud offensive lineman, patient and gentle. Colton, on the other hand, is just so guarded and clearly carrying a lot of weight on his shoulders. Watching Tex slowly dismantle those walls without even pushing too hard was beautiful. Seeing Colton feel safe enough to be himself and get his HEA made me happy. I also loved the cameos from Malik and Grey.

This story is a classic tutor-meets-athlete, but it feels way more deep because it deals with real-life stuff like grief and finding your confidence.

I totally recommend this book (and the whole series). Waiting for Ethan’s story in the upcoming Desert Elite Hockey series.

Thank you, Christie for this free eARC. This is my honest review and recommendation.

Tex and Colton were equally calming and stressful. I love how a simple need for a passing grade turned into the best decision Tex could have ever made. Their many attempts to not give into their attraction and maintain a platonic connection were so fun and frustrating. Sara was so irritating. I felt so much annoyance for the guys like I was the one dealing with her. I hated how much Colton felt he’d had to control and hide himself for years. Given the trauma, it is fully understandable and Tex’s patience while he came to terms with everything was so healing. Dante’s visit couldn’t have come at a better time. Even though Colton wasn’t fully ready, I (like Tex) was so happy for the change it caused. The final scene was so lovely. The growth that we saw in Andy and their relationship made the day even more special. A house reunion was such a great surprise that I didn’t know we needed. Hopefully future life updates/reunions will be written! I am so excited for the next story; I knew Evan would end up being more than just an ally! Another great addition!

I absolutely love the characters of ASU, both the hockey and football teams, each story gives a beautiful story of MM romances.

Tex is the last single guy in the football house and when one of his classes his senior year is a bit harder than expected, he gets a tutor. What he didn’t expect, falling for Colton, the tutor right away.

Tex is so patient and doesn’t rush anything. He is also so supportive and gives the little boost that is needed. Colton is so sweet and kind. He has been through a lot losing his mom when he was just 18 and his father was not very present in his life. Colton didn’t want to admit or come out he was bisexual, but after meeting Tex, he can’t hold back.

I hated that Colton felt like he had to be in control so much after his mom died. It was his way of grounding himself and keeping control over the situation. As they got closer and feelings got deeper, Colton began to open up and blossom in his sexuality. And Tex was there for every step of the way.

This was such a sweet and beautiful love story. Watching them take their time and move together as one and getting stronger.

I have really enjoyed this series and was looking forward to Tex’s story and it did not disappoint! I’m a big fan of the whole jock/nerd trope and again – Tex and Colton delivered there! I liked how genuine and real their story felt, they catch feelings pretty quickly but it’s not all simple and easy for them. Colton has some real issues he’s working through and Tex shows up and is such a great source of support and love for him. I loved that Tex sticks with him though – determined to get his man.

I thought this was a really heartfelt read, there’s a real mix of romance, humor, sweetness and also trauma and healing. It’s very moving! I really liked the balance of their story, how it all mixed together and gave it a good flow. I also loved how many characters from other books show up and really round out the whole story.

Overall, I definitely enjoyed this book. Tex and Colton are just perfect for each other and find their happiness together. There are great supporting characters and even some family redemption to really bring it all together. A great conclusion the Desert Football series filled with wonderful characters and so much love!

This book was not what I was expecting for the typical nerd/jock romance and I am so happy about that. Our MMCs felt really genuine and I connected with them very easily. My heart broke for everything Colton went through but him finding someone to support him and who was a good man made up for it. Tex’s desire to have someone of his own to support him and be there through the good and bad times was so genuine and raw feeling. Watching these two dance around each other and seeing the strong man that is Tex trying to figure out if someone likes him was adorable. It made connecting with him that much easier. I appreciated that he didn’t just assume everyone wants to be with him and genuinely tried to figure things out before making a move. Their story had me giggling and tearing up but I always wanted the best for both of them. Tex is patient and supportive, which is not what we typically see from the jock. He’s mature and caring in ways that went beyond his age. He let Colton be himself and didn’t pressure him for things he wasn’t ready for. These two are end goals for sure. It was so satisfying reading the ending they got. I couldn’t have imagined a better one honestly.
