Nine years after the monster apocalypse, Eik had accepted that he would never get powers of his own. But now the apocalypse is ramping up again.
When a monster crashes through the wall of Eik’s apothecary, his quiet life is turned upside down.
Forced to choose his first Awakened Ability in order to survive, Eik soon finds out that his sister has been put in a coma by a venomous monster.
Only by killing that monster can he synthesize the antiserum.
Awakening his second ability — the first Unique ability on Earth, called Profound Toxin — Eik sees his chance to gain power.
But when a mysterious woman emerges from the same otherworldly spatial fracture as the monsters, humanity learns that Earth is just one piece in a much bigger game.
And Eik could become a crucial player.
An Apocalyptic LitRPG awaits in this action-packed adventure featuring an intelligent MC, a unique system, slow-burn power progression, poison skills, epic battles, and more. It's perfect for fans of Azarinth Healer, The Primal Hunter, and Wraithwood Botanist.
It was okay, a decent premise. However, a lot of the plot kind of just fell on itself.
Sister poisoned? Oh no! A race against time to find a cure. Just kidding; here's a pill to keep her locked in a stasis till you figure it out....
Some of the narration just seemed over-explanatory. Like, let's say you get ambushed. I don't need a million reasons narrated to me as to why the MC felt lax, wasn't paying attention. An "O sh*t" would've worked just fine.
The characters were just full-on NPC energy. None of the other characters were remotely interesting except maybe that cat... that doesn't do anything, and that's saying a lot.
Grammar and spelling were decent.
Overall, I'd give this a pass. If you're extremely bored, u might find some enjoyment; otherwise, I'd skip this.
Really cool book. I enjoyed the magic system. It was a good mix of LitRPG elements but had some cultivation level vibes. The MC was unusual but endearing. He is going down the path to become OP. The story was good but we are left with little resolution and a pretty big cliffhanger. I do want to know what happens next though.
This book was a fun read. Lots of action and the story flows well. The ending is a tad abrupt, but that may just be because it was on Royal Road first.
I enjoyed reading about Eik and the other residents of Forest. Interesting story, interesting setting, interesting characters. Would love to say more, but I don't want to ruin the story for anyone. Can't wait to see what happens next.
Note to self: can't say if the book is bad or not, I just didn't care about the MC or the story. Life's too short to spend time doing things that don't bring you enjoyment.
I had a lot of fun reading this. Interesting power set, good story and decent character development. The only bad thing is that the next book isn't done yet
