3.00 Stars. (BW/WM) Kindle Edition $3.99/ 270 page ebook. SETTING: Norfolk Virginia Naval Base and Elizabeth, South Carolina. Current time period, TROPE: Second change romance. Teenage love gone wrong. PROTAGONISTS: 1. TEMPEST "TEMPO" BROOKS is a Petty Officer First Class rescue swimmer for the Coast Guard. 2. DAVID DRAKE is a Lieutenant Naval Pilot.
Tempest and David meet when they are elven-years-old and become romantically involved by their mid to late teens. Shortly after graduation from high school, as Tempest is making plans for them to attend college together, David announces that he is joining the Navy to become a pilot, he leaves and doesn't contact Tempest again. Eight years later during a storm, the plane that David and his good friend and copilot, Elis O'Connor, are flying crashes and they are rescued bu Tempest. The story is told from both Tempest and David's prospective and osolates between their, preteen, teens and current adult lives. The story is lovely, the characters are likable with good supportive side characters like Tempest's best friend, Kim and her parents and David's grandfather, Sammy. The pacing of the story is made to drag because too much time is spent airing Tempest's abandonment issues and fears that David might break her heart again.
The book was billed as a military romance and it ended up being like all the anti military cliched books. The idea that one can’t be both in the Navy and in a loving commited relationship is tired. I understand how breaking up at 18 was hard, and maybe a long distance relationship would have been difficult then, however I felt she overdid it. They are now adults, she has a very difficult and dangerous job in the corps so what is the big deal in trying to compromise? Still no progress on communication. It was ridiculous that an adult would think that she can’t coexist with someone ‘s she says she loves, ambition. He could have done Top Gun if only until her contract was up. Instead somehow the only way to love her was to be a flight instructor for tourists and home everyday? A real let down. Now his mom has to create a somewhat satisfying job for him? For once it would be nice to read a real military romance which honors the sacrifice of the Armed forces and their families.
I love a good love story. David and Tempo were made for each other.I loved that after eight years of being separated they were able to reconnect and have a happy ending.
This was an enjoyable book to read as the couple matured and came together you could feel the author’s intent to share with us the love that they have for each other. this is a book well worth reading. First time reading anything from this author but I intend to follow.
Kim is the lady with the great advice. And Tempest is so assessed with her own agenda of being the hurt one. She does realize what he real!y wants in life.
