Chronicles of Moxie #2

First Comes Love

Rate this book
“So I met this guy. Miles Dane is the trifecta of awesomeness: he’s hot, built, and amazing in bed. The best part of it all is that he loves me. Did I mention I puked all over him when we first met? No? Well, that’s a different story. Things have finally settled down for us. We are disgustingly in love and, let’s face it, the cutest couple on earth. Dillion, Miles’ son, is smarter than ever, and my two best friends, Renee and Ryan, will get drunk with me at a moment’s notice. Oh, my stepmonster is still flipping nuts, but what else is new? Miles is there for me through it all. But what if our love isn’t enough to face the bumpy, pothole-infested, curvy, roadkill-riddled road ahead? Sometimes life isn’t all daises and unicorn farts. Miles and I are facing great challenges as a couple. As the saying goes, first comes love, then comes... You get the point. Can therapy and a dose of sanity help me with what’s coming next? That’s a joke, right?”

As a little girl it was always a dream for Z.B. Heller to become She-Ra Princess of Power. Since this dream was unobtainable, she spent what was probably way to long in college trying to "find herself". Becoming an artist scratched the creative itch until the stories in her head were getting to be to loud for her to get anything else accomplished. She lives in St. Louis with her husband, son and Flemish Giant rabbit Chloe. In her spare time she likes to read, stalk celebrities on Twitter and create the type of art that people scratch their heads about.

The Chronicles of Moxie is Z.B. Heller's debut novel.

Attention: First Comes Love needs a WARNING LABEL that reads: Warning this book will bring you to tears from laughing so loud. Z.B. Heller, I bow down to your awesomeness on making such a fun romantic comedy book! First Comes Love was absolutely funny, witty, sexy, and dripping with sarcasms that I LOVED every moment of this book!!

#Moxie

Although I didn't read the first book of Moxie, I was able to understand the gist of what I missed from the first book and in this second installment, the author did a great job in explaining to the readers of the major things what happened in the previous books so new readers are not confused. But don't worry after reading this book, I will definitely be one-clicking the first book because I can't get enough of Moxie. What can I say but I absolutely adore and love Moxie and Miles. They are one of my favorite couples because these two lovebirds kept me entertained throughout the story. There was no questioning that these two were made for each other. Well the title, First Comes Love actually sets tone on what's to come next...we all heard the saying "first comes love, then comes marriage, then comes a baby in a baby carriage"... so you guess it...this book is all about Moxie and Miles' relationship as they take the plunge to that new stage of commitment. What I love about this book, Z.B. Heller made this book FUN!! Miles and Moxie are the couple who can have you giggling with laughter, begging for more dirty-talks and have you swooning with all the sweet moments. What can I say but just read this book!!!

The first book was good but this book was great, to see how Moxie and Miles relationship grew it was great to see that. They are both so funny I saw a new side of Miles that I loved he was way more funnier in this book. Dillion was so adorable he was a great character and Moxie's bestfriends where great characters too I want Ryan to have his own book. My goodness I never thought that Moxie's stepmom could get more evil. She was way worse in this book then the other.

This book was the highlight of my weekend. If you haven't read the first book I highly recommend it. I laughed out loud so many time reading this book and I just want everyone to read and experience the goings on in Moxie's life.

Moxie is dating Miles, a widowed father of a sweet boy called Dillion. Moxie used to be his kindergarten teacher and that is how they met. Miles is keen to move things forward in their relationship, he is so in love with Moxie and plans to keep her in their lives forever. Miles is so damn sweet, he is gorgeous, a loving father and adorable boyfriend to Moxie.

Moxie is someone who has no filter when it comes to expressing her feelings and opinions. She is definitely someone I could see myself being best friends with. I love the thoughts that go through her head and how she seems to say the thing that everyone else in the room was thinking but too reserved to. This is just a snippet of a visit to her gynecologist:

"There was nothing more exciting than spending a Friday afternoon with your legs in stirrups and the metal jaws of death spreading your hooha open. Good times." - Moxie

Just when Moxie was getting used to the idea of moving to suburbia with Miles and Dillion, life threw a curve ball at her which changes everything, quite rapidly. Together they can handle anything right?

"To say I was nervous would be a slight understatement. Immensely terrified sounded better. Like having to take a shit in a gas station bathroom kind of terrified." - Moxie

There is this freaking hilarious scene at a restaurant, when Moxie was meeting Miles' parents for the first time that had me laughing so hard I had tears in my eyes. This story is not just lots of laughs. Moxie has a stepmother called Martha who has always interfered in her life and boy does she stoop to a new low that had me so bloody furious.

I guess what I am saying is that there is never a dull moment in this book and funnily enough, that is one of things that Miles loves about Moxie, life with her is always full of surprises.

The story of Moxie and Miles continues...and I laughed through most of the book!

The story starts with Moxie, Miles, Renee, Raj, Ryan and Tom enjoying some oriental dining...whereupon Tom runs headfirst into someone else he has been seeing behind Ryan's back. It gets ugly from there. Suffice it to say, Moxie refers to it as "Koi Gate." If you want to know - get the book.

Moxie is now teaching first grade, and seems a bit more irritable (than usual). Miles plans a surprise vacation for her, but the bad news is - he can't join them. So Moxie, Dillon, Renee and Ryan board a plan for Disney. Yes, Moxie in an airport. TSA. Think about it.

I can't say there is anything that I did not like about this book. I love to laugh, and this one had me hee-hawing out loud several times. The interaction between Moxie and Miles is perfect - he loves her just as she is, and he even eggs on her anger because "a feisty Moxie is a sexy Moxie." It is truly wonderful to read the scenes between the two of them, and they pass the eye-roll test.

The author has also created the ultimate, modern day, evil stepmother. If I could have stepped into a book and shook a character, I would have done so to Martha!

Moxie has a lot to deal with in this book, from the new challenge she and Miles face, to her dealings with her stepmother, to her feelings about her dad after her mom passed away.

This is a WONDERFUL, wonderful read and I highly recommend both Moxie books to every reader who enjoys humor along with some really great sex scenes because that Miles has a mouth on him (in a different way than Moxie, if you know what I mean).

~I was given this book from the author~
This book is more of Moxie and her crazy ride with Miles! Things have definitely changed for Moxie since the last book. Miles and her are still going strong minus moving to the suburbs. Moxie has moved up to First grade even though she wanted 5th grade. Her stepmom is still crazy and carries out her wild assumptions which in turn, gets her into a heated agruement with Moxie. Anyway, things are changing for Moxie and she's not quite ready for them. Between a marriage proposal going horribly wrong, a hilarious dinner gone crazy and my favorite scene. Moxie still has her smart mouth and knows how to use it. It gets her in trouble most of the time, but in true Moxie form, she doesn't care. In my opinion, this book was funnier than the first one. There are classic moments that I guarantee you won't forget!

Miles is a saint. His love for Moxie really comes through in a way that was kind of missing in the first story. We still have the outrageous characters and personalities that we know and love for the first book. The writing was great and things flowed very well. I really enjoyed getting to see things from Miles's point of view. There were a few spelling and grammatical errors but nothing major and it did not impact the story.

This book out me through all the feels!!! I am in love with Moxies character. She is just like someone I could strive to be. I have the outspoken part down for sure but her spunkiness, and the way she lives her life well heck yes!!
Some of the circumstances and scenes in this book will have you rolling on the floor from laughter....that ladies and gents is an awesomely written book. Huge fan of this author's writing. The words and world she created is done brilliantly.
So thank you for entertaining me with laughter and an amazing character such is or as Moxie!!

Fabulous but irritating

Maxie and the gang are wonderful characters, and the whole book is hysterically funny! I need to say however, that the editing is horrible. Both books have errors on most of the pages. It's as if they were dictated and spell checked, and that was all. There are extra words, missing words, wrong words (for just one example, lesson and lessen are not interchangeable). The grammar is also a problem. It was just so distracting to have the errors repeatedly interrupting the flow of reading. The author is definitely going on my favorites list, but I hope she gets someone who will be more careful, and actually read the books.

“Moxie, have you ever read a book that you really loved?”
“I don’t read.” She giggled. I gave her smack on the ass. “Yes, I have,” she finally replied.
“When you read a book and fall in love with it, it always stays with you.”
“I guess you’re right,” she said, snuggling back into me.
“So think of our life as a book; another story just waiting to be told.”

WARNING: DO NOT READ THIS BOOK IN A PUBLIC AREA IF YOU ARE EMBARRASED LAUGHING OUT LOUD IN FRONT OF A BUNCH OF STRANGERS.

I attached this warning because I made the mistake of reading in a doctor’s office and later in a restaurant. Both times all eyes turned to me and I’m sure many wondered who is that crazy woman laughing so hard she is crying.

First Comes Love is the first book I read by Z. B. Heller and she is now on my “Buy Immediately” when released list. What an absolutely awesome storyteller. This is actually the second book in the Chronicles of Moxie series but I didn’t feel that I missed anything by reading this book before I read the first book.

Moxie is a first grade school teacher dating a single dad, Miles. Dillon, Miles’ son is a fabulous, very smart boy who was in Moxie’s kindergarten class. Moxie is a woman with a “what comes up comes out” mouth and a lot of unexpected observations come out. This book has everything that you could want in a romance book, love, an evil step-mother that would put Cinderella’s to shame, sex, a little angst and, all of these heavier scenes are broken up with some of the funniest scenes ever.

“Miles?” I looked down at my boyfriend as I took fighting position. “Yes?” He looked up. Miles wasn’t phased by all the drama. After dating me for a while, he figured out there was always something crazy happening around me. “If something happens to me, make sure you clear the hard drive on my computer. I’m donating my porn collection to you.”

One of my favorite scenes were in the gynecologist’s office. Any woman who’s ever made that trip knows how embarrassing it is and Ms. Heller made me laugh until I cried. I will never go to my doctor again without thinking about Moxie.

“They’d obviously gone through this before. I lifted my head and said, “Is this your second baby?” Both let out a loud laugh. “Oh no. This is our seventh,” she said. My mouth went slack. This woman had pushed six watermelons out her cooch. Her vagina was probably so loose, her baby would just fall right out of her like it were shooting down a Slip‘N Slide.”

There is another scene at Disney World that is hilarious. Miles was trying to give Moxie and Dillon a little get away because he had to work and their breakfast with Goofy was goofy. I can’t share any more information without giving away too much that the reader needs to experience firsthand.

Moxie works through a lot in her relationship with Miles in this book. She is such a fun character that I wanted to invite her over and do shots or drink Margaritas with her. All the character in this book are wonderful and have personalities that are realistic; even the evil step-mother. They all connect in a perfect way to support each other through the ups and downs of life.

As Moxie tries to work out how she wants her relationship to move forward I feel for her and the emotional conflict that continually run through her head and out of her mouth.

I can’t stress how much I love this book. I highly recommend it. Let’s face it everyone needs a little laughter in their life. It is good for your health. I’m downloading The Chronicles of Moxie and The education of Moxie tonight to for more laughs.

Also check out Z.B. Heller’s Facebook page. She is asking her fans for input while writing her next book. I’m laughing as I read her questions. What a hoot!

ARC received for an honest review.

If you love to laugh as much as you love to read, then do yourself a favor and pick up the hilarious The Chronicles of Moxie, and follow it up with this equally funny sequel, First Comes Love. I'm not lying when I say I had hilarity-induced tears rolling down my face as I read this book. Oh, and it made my gut hurt from laughing.

Moxie and Miles haven't had the most conventional courtship. From their technicolor first meeting to the meddling of a certain monster stepmother, they've borne it all and come out the other side.

First comes love and then comes...the future. Moxie and her main man are as in love as ever, but is that enough for the crap that's coming their way??

Oh. Em. Gee. Seriously, this book was the best way to spend my quiet Saturday night. Just me, a soda, a snuggly baby and Moxie and Miles. I wasn't even 4% in before I was chuckling and smirking, and I alternated between raucous laughter and frowny frustration (at a certain character NOT at the book itself) the entire time I read.

First Comes Love was a funny one - and not just because of the sometimes childish, always snarky and sarcastic humor. It was funny because I thought I knew what was going to happen but then I'd convince myself that, no, that wasn't possible. But then I'd think, oh yeah, that's definitely going to ha.....or maybeeeee not. <<-- See what I mean?! The book was unpredictably predictable and I loved it, even as I shook and cussed and scrunched my face at the audacity of some people.

Just read this book, that's all I have to say in summation. It might make you pee a little from laughing, but shhhh, no one needs to know that.

First Comes Love the second book in the Chronicles of Moxie series and is best read after the riotous first book because, although I think you could comfortably read it standalone, why would you want to miss the first, tears-streaming-down-my-face-as-spittake-my-drink book?? ~ Beth, 5 stars

~~~
Oh my! Miss Moxie, how I missed you! I really needed this book after some of the heavier reads I've had lately. ZB Heller's writing is like a breath of fresh air. Sexy, spunky and a laugh riot. If you haven't made time to read her books, do it. Seriously. Start with The Chronicles of Moxie and then immediately download this follow-up. These books were made for people with their minds in the gutter and an amazing sense of humor.
We meet back up with Moxie and Miles as they're planning their wedding. Of course, with Moxie, nothing goes according to plan. A sprinkle of drama, a dash of hijinks, mix it all together and this story is a delicious confection. RomCom at it's best. This my friends is a double panty soaker; you'll have wet panties from the uber sexy, swoony Miles and from pissing yourself with laughter.
First Comes Love is the second book in this series. It cannot be read as a standalone. ~ Erin, 5 stars
This book is hysterical. A fantastic and perfect continuation of the first. Here Moxie is happy and with Miles. Miles is so sweet and laid back. He loves Moxie with everything and all the things he does for her are so adorable and amazing. Moxie is still living up to her name. She is as sarcastic as ever and as neurotic as ever. Now these two are about to embark on a different time in their lives. Miles wants her to be his happy ever after and Moxie is pregnant. First how the pregnancy comes to light is hysterical and the ultrasound day was too much. Miles and his proposal was so sweet and their wedding well lets just say that was a eye opener and what Miles did to make things perfect later on was so romantic. This is miles and Moxie’s journey into being together forever and becoming a family. It’s filled with humour, snark and just fun. We have Moxie finally stand up for herself and her dad’s eyes finally opened. We have Miles and his sweet laid back and loving nature and we have the awesome forces that are Moxies friends. I think the Koi fish ninja scene may have been my favourite and how Raj and Miles bet on it was just too much. And Miles’s son Dillon so precious. But their love story and how Miles is so amazing is beautiful and heartwarming. The story of their coming together as a family is this book and it is done in a charming and fun way. No character loses themselves in the other and they retain their personalities while helping bring strength and love to each other. A funny hoot till you cry from laughing so hard story that will go quickly because it is so entertaining you will want more from this vivacious and fun couple and their friends. I do so hope we get more stories of Moxie and Mile’s adventures together and of their friends as well because this is a great group of characters that will keep you wildly entertained and laughing as you smile at the romance and sweetness of the moments.
Hilarious romantic comedy
First Comes Love is the second book of the Chronicles of Moxie novels and just as hilarious as the first.
Moxie, the ever witty Jewish non-princess, and Miles her number one man, continue their never-a-dull-moment relationship in this installment of the Chronicles of Moxie. Endearing secondary characters, Renee and Ryan, Moxie’s best friends, are also along for the ride. Each one of these characters add to the humor in this book with their wit and loyal friendship.
There are a few somber and touching moments peppered throughout this book but for the most part it’s a laugh-out-loud experience you won’t want to miss. As off handed and boisterous as Moxie can be at times, I just loved the fact that Miles always seemed to be either suppressing a chuckle or blasting her with an equally smart mouthed retort. He loves her so much no matter how outrageous she is he’s along for the ride and stays by her side.
While I suspect this book could be read as a stand-alone I highly recommend reading them in order to maximize the non-stop laughter you’ll surely experience.
I hope there’s more crazy times to come with Moxie, Miles and their crew.
I received a generous pre-release copy of this book in return for an honest review. Since I did not read the “final” version of this book my five star rating is based on the entertaining content of the story.
If you haven’t read ZB Heller’s debut, The Moxie Chronicles you need to stop right here and go #OCTB. First Comes Love is the zany follow-up, which opens up with Moxie and Miles settling blissfully into their newly minted couple-dom. BAHAHAHAHA. No. In the Moxie-verse, bliss is a relative term – there are some hilarious and game changing developments in this book.
I loved the we get an alt-POV from Moxie and Miles. Because Miles? Oh, damn – he wears his whippedness like a badge of honor. His complete and utter devotion to Moxie completely melted my heart. I loved that he knew when to just stand back a let Moxie be Moxie. Why? Because it totally turned him on.
Moxie is still just as spectacular. She is such a force and behind her bravado, there is a woman who is an amazing friend, girlfriend and teacher. But I really loved her relationship with Miles’ son Dillion. They had an amazing connection and I loved not only their scenes together, but also the affection that you could feel Moxie had for him.
I will say this – Disney has nothing on ZB Heller when it comes to creating a wicked stepmother. Because Martha Summers is one wicked bitch. All I am going to say is wow and wow.
First Comes Love is such a wonderful story that will take you through the full gamut of emotions….it will make you laugh until you almost pee yourself, cry until you hiccup and so mad that you will want to throw your device.
***5 Stars***
I love to read a good book that will make me laugh, and First Comes Love fits into that description. When I read The Chronicles of Moxie I loved it, and I knew that this new installment wouldn't disappoint either. Both books will make you laugh a lot.
Moxie and Miles are such a great couple. In this book they go through some changes in their relationship, while still having to deal with Moxie's evil stepmother. Moxie is such a great character and I hated when her stepmother would put her down and make her insecure about herself. If I could reach through the book and slap her, I would. Will Moxie be able to finally stand up to her stepmother?
Throughout everything that goes on in this book, Miles and Moxie are always there for each other. Moxie continues to be her crazy, funny self, and Miles is right there by her side egging her on. Dillon is still the great kid he was in the first book, with the exception of him no longer being in Moxie's class.
Overall, I loved this book. I was so happy to find out that we would get more of Miles and Moxie, and First Comes Love was a great continuation of their relationship. If you love to laugh this book is for you!
If you plan on reading this series, you should read Mystery, Matzo Ball and Moxie before this novel. I know Goodreads lists that book as #2.5 but there are things in First Comes Love (Chronicles of Moxie #2) that will make more sense if you read Mystery, Matzo Ball and Moxie first.
Now on to the review. Similar to the first book, I laughed all the way through. Since I read Tied Together and Tied in Knots before the Chronicles of Moxie, I knew was going to happen as far as the babies and Martha, who is one sick woman, were concerned. I'm glad Heller didn't do what a lot of other writers do with the girlfriend getting pregnant, where the girlfriend tries hide the pregnancy for months or drags her feet an entire trimester about telling her boyfriend. I know no one is perfect but Miles is the most perfect man I've read about ever. He handled the pregnancy Moxie (who is just as crazy as normal Moxie) pretty well and supported through that crap storm of Martha. I'm also glad Steve stepped up to the plate and was featured more in the story. I wish there were more to this series because I like it a lot.
Book two picks up right after book 1, pretty seamlessly. Miles is still the sexy alpha dirty talker who wets her panties. Moxie is still the smart mouthed snarky teacher she has always been.
With all new relationships there is the "honeymoon" phase, but then you move into the ups and downs of a relationship. Add in the sass of her gay friend Ryan and bestie Renee and it is a great combo. I liked the normal progression of the relationship and how everyday fears to not ellude Moxie. I like that she finally dealt with evilstepwitch.
My blah feeling of this book came from the fact that I feel Moxie is just over the top. Sarcasm with every breath becomes grating on a person. She just does not know how to have a simple conversation without being a wench about it, so now she is on my nerves.
Miles is still the charmer, "well, maybe after I drain my pip, the snake would still like the play," I whispered into her ear and nipped her earlobe." Dillon I loved that little boy even more in this book, he's quite informative, "I just heard Uncle Ryan whisper it to Aunt Renee. I thought you'd want to know just in case you did eff up and didn't realize it." Miles he's um... willing to go the length for his woman, "I was pi**ed I had to stand there with my balls overheating in this costume! At any rate, this might be our only kid because my nuts are oven roasted!" Moxie she's a tad bit dramatic, "I'm fat, psychotic, and you have huge, low, hanging balls!" Moxie screamed." Yeah, I liked this book maybe more than the first one Miles and Moxie sure have a lot of memorable moments.
I love RomCom books. They're my absolute faves. God bless Ms. Heller for creating Moxie Summers! Our girl is back & sassy as ever in this hilarious follow up to The Chronicles of Moxie. So here goes. growth and a clean slate should come with a warning label. I fell in love with Moxie in her chronicles but in this book she held nothing back. In true Moxie fashion we got to the root of her problems that not only ended a relationship but also allowed another to rebuild and regroup.
You still got your humor and more additions to the family we all love but ZB Heller also delivered with bonds, meetings, and open closets. I know there is more to come because I wasn't finished with my laugh but I will put in my request, bring me Ryan please.
Thank you Moxie for letting me into chapter two of you life with Miles and Dillon oh and Jaxson and Sophia (daddy's princess).
I don't even know where to begin with this book. I adore Moxie. Everything that comes out of her mouth brings a smirk to my face or forces a giggle snort to erupt from me. Z.B Heller has easily become my favorite rom-com author, hands down. I love the way serious issues were tackled, how loving Miles was but he knew how to be there for Moxie when she needed it. Martha needs a good C*?! Punt. My god that woman. This story and it's crazy cast of characters brought out so many emotions in me, that I couldn't put it down until I finished. Loved it! If you haven't read chronicles of Moxie you need to and then read this! One of my favorite reads of 2015! Well done Z.B!
If you want to read a book that is quick, funny and has a main character with a outspoken personality then this is the book for you!
Moxie definitely did not have a filter on anything that came out of her mouth. Plenty of times I found myself laughing out loud just because of the outrageous things that she said.
This is a love story; the story starts with Moxie and Miles already in a relationship which was a refreshing change. Moxie finds out so news and she doesn't handle it tell well at first but with the help and support of her other half she realizes she really had nothing to worry about.
The characters are hilarious and quick-witted; very enjoyable read!
Omg...the first book was awesome. I laughed my ever-loving ass off. But First Comes Love: A Chronicles of Moxie Novel was even BETTER! I fell head over heels for Miles (even if he has goat hairs in his nose...bahahahaha) and Moxie was amazing! One of my favorite heroines ever! I want so bad to talk about a part that made me cry like a baby, and then the part after that gave me crazy warm fuzzies and brought tears to my eyes. I'm a bit in awe of the author for this story. LOVED IT!
Laugh out Hilarious
What an amazing next addition in Chronicles Of Moxie. Z.B. Heller has hit another home run with "Frist Come Love" Moxie, our Jewish-princess (somewhat tarnished) is back with her witty cast of friends and love one's. They give us another hilarious ride on the crazy train, also known "As the world according to Moxie" Moxie is given an unexpected surprise..she's pregnant. Now she must navigate her way through nine months of hormonal changes. The big question is, can Miles, Renee and Ryan survive the insanity that is Moxie? If you want a feel good, laugh out loud fun read, this hilarious book delivers!
ZB does it again!!
First Comes Love reminded me how much I loved Moxie, Miles and Dillon and made me fall in love with them all over again! Moxie with her crazy mouth and over active imagination. Miles and his love for his family, his dirty mouth and innuendos. And Dillon, what can I say? I love that he is 7 going on 70. Moxie and Miles face new obstacles in this next chapter of their lives. ZB had me laughing out loud and even had me in tears at one point. This is a truly great book and I can't wait to see what's next!!
Five Golden Stars
Ladies, get your boxes of kleenex ready . Z.B. Heller has once again captured my heart in this deliciously romantic love story of Moxie and Miles. Their story continued and along with their beautiful story, their little family became larger. Moxie had me smiling, sniffling and cheering all at the same time. This is a wonderful story of LOVE all around, some hate and definitely a very happy ending. Reminds me of a real life situation as it seemed to be so real. Definitely a must read and will definitely be reading it again. Job well done.
I really, really enjoyed First Comes Love....This is a refreshing read, I laughed out loudon many occasions. Moxie is a BIG personality....no, she is no waif, thin frail woman.....she reminds me of "I am woman, hear me roar"....she is loud, sarcastic and real.....and she is loved by those dearest to her....thankfully in this book, she puts her step-monster Martha in her place and on her ass...literally. Never a dull moment in the lives of Moxie and Miles....if you want a book that will leave you smiling...this one ranks right up there!
