I can't really mark this as "read" because current busyness of life meant I had to return it to the library without reading all of the text, but from browsing it for research purposes I can say this would make an excellent edition to the library of any Western enthusiast or writer. It includes melody and guitar chords for each song, plus accompanying text tracing the history of the song itself and giving background on the subject matter of the song—so there's a lot of Old West history here. It's also liberally illustrated with fantastic black-and-white photographs from the mid-19th century onward.
