On Thin Ice, written by author Kelly Jamieson, is the third book in the New Jersey Storm series. This book can easily be read as a stand-alone, however, I do recommend the entire series.
Marek is a pro hockey player for the New Jersey Storm. He is in Vegas for the NHL All Star weekend when has the opportunity to hook up with his secret crush, singer Nikki Sullivan. The chemistry is obvious, and the sparks definitely fly when they spend the night together. No strings attached, they both go their separate ways the following day. Even though they try to meet up again, their schedules never line up and they go on with their lives. The only problem is moving on doesn't necessarily mean forgetting, and Marek is struggling to get over that one night with Nikki.
Nikki knew hooking up with Marek was probably a mistake, but there was just something about him that made her throw caution to the wind. Marek is too good to be real, and that scares her. Nikki doesn’t have time for relationships, so she moves forward and focuses on her music career and world tour. Then everything takes a turn for the worse, and the one person to come to her rescue is the one man she has tried so hard to forget.
The story that unfolds is a journey of friendship, love, patience and trust. It is also a story about learning to overcome tragedy and not let it define you. Both of the lead characters have experienced tragedy in their lives, (even though Marek went through his years ago). Nikki is at a loss on how to move on, especially since she is suffering from horrible nightmares. I felt sorry for Nikki because she carries A LOT of guilt on top of always trying to live up to the expectations her parents drilled in her head from a young age. Marek truly is a knight in shining armor! He is determined to help Nikki and he is so caring and patient with her. It is obvious they have feelings for one another, but can they find a way to make it work?
Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this story of Marek and Nikki. This is another great addition the the New Jersey Storm series.
I would like to thank Boldwood Books and Kelly Jamieson for allowing me to read an ARC of On Thin Ice. My views are my own and are in no way influenced by anyone else.
