The King's Circus has never visited my village, until now.
I just wish I'd stayed home.
When dragons appear and commit unspeakable acts, I should be dead. Instead, I'm pulled into a centuries-old rebellion by Fenric, who insists I'm the key to ending an immortal king's reign.
There's just one I'm nobody. A miner from Xardon who spent six years hauling shadowstone and keeping my head down.
Except in the fae realm, my blood does things it shouldn't, and the prophecy everyone keeps referencing says I'm something I can't possibly be.
The worst part? I'm stuck with Cairos—an arrogant, cocky dragon-shifter with centuries of murder in his past and an infuriating smirk that makes me want to strangle him. He's complicit in the very atrocities I'm trying to stop, and I should hate him.
So why do I feel so inexplicably drawn to him?
To protect my family and stop the cycle of death, I'll have to trust a monster, uncover what I really am, and get close enough to a king to destroy him.
But the closer I get to the truth, the more I Everything I thought I knew about myself was a lie.

Dragon-shiftersFaeEnemies-to-LoversForced ProximityMorally Gray MMC"Who did this to you?"Perfect for fans of From Blood and Ash and A Deal with the Elf King, this enemies-to-lovers romantasy features dragon-shifters, deadly prophecies, and a heroine who discovers she's something she never could've imagined.
Eliza Benner is a beautiful writer that tells beautiful stories. I've never really considered Romantasy to be a top genre of mine, but I thoroughly enjoyed this book.
Vitalia has deep, dynamic characters that I fell in love with. Naevyn is strong but kind and Cairos is tough and tormented with a heart of gold. At no point did Naevyn's fierceness or strength seem forced - Benner did a great job of making her an empathetic character with realistic boundaries. And Cairos -oh, my heart. He's such a complex character, forced into what is essentially slavery to a king with evil intentions, while wanting to do the right thing all along.
The relationship between Naevyn and Cairos is deep and swoonworthy. The devotion and intensity of the relationship matches that of a Sarah J. Maas pairing, but in no way does this book feel derivative.
The whole concept of the book uses tropes to its advantage. Not every aspect of it breathes originality, but it knows what it is and who its audience is - and Benner writes from the heart.
Overall, I loved this book and I imagine the characters will stay with me for a long time. I am eagerly awaiting the second book.
I received and advanced reader copy of Vitalia from the author and am writing this review of my own accord. Thank you to the author for my copy! I loved it.
I LOVED LOVED this book! Can't wait for book 2. Hard to review without spoilers. It has dragon shifters and fae and of course deadly prophecies; forced proximity; enemy to lovers. Loved the fmc and mmc in this book. Loved the story and the banter between them. Will be adding to my physical collection.
