The King's Circus has never visited my village, until now.
I just wish I'd stayed home.
When dragons appear and commit unspeakable acts, I should be dead. Instead, I'm pulled into a centuries-old rebellion by Fenric, who insists I'm the key to ending an immortal king's reign.
There's just one I'm nobody. A miner from Xardon who spent six years hauling shadowstone and keeping my head down.
Except in the fae realm, my blood does things it shouldn't, and the prophecy everyone keeps referencing says I'm something I can't possibly be.
The worst part? I'm stuck with Cairos—an arrogant, cocky dragon-shifter with centuries of murder in his past and an infuriating smirk that makes me want to strangle him. He's complicit in the very atrocities I'm trying to stop, and I should hate him.
So why do I feel so inexplicably drawn to him?
To protect my family and stop the cycle of death, I'll have to trust a monster, uncover what I really am, and get close enough to a king to destroy him.
But the closer I get to the truth, the more I Everything I thought I knew about myself was a lie.

I really enjoyed Vitalia. It’s one of those books that pulls you in quickly and makes you want to keep turning the pages. The world is rich, the story is emotional, and the overall vibe feels both magical and dangerous in the best way.
The main character Naevyn is written as strong, determined, and resilient, which is one of the things I liked most about her. At the same time, there are moments where she seems to falter in ways that don’t always match how powerful she’s meant to be. It can feel a little frustrating, but it also makes her feel more real—like someone who’s trying to hold it together while everything around her is falling apart.
And honestly… who wouldn’t love a story with dragons and a circus? Well—maybe not this circus, for obvious reasons once you read the book. That mix of danger, mystery, and spectacle adds so much to the atmosphere and makes the setting unforgettable.
The tension between Naevyn and Cairos is one of the most compelling parts of the story. Their dynamic adds emotional depth and keeps you guessing, making every interaction feel charged and meaningful.
The imagery across the different universes is incredibly detailed and enchanting—you can practically see the worlds come to life. The author’s descriptions make each setting feel vast, magical, and alive.
Overall, Vitalia is a gripping, imaginative read that balances strength and vulnerability in a way that feels authentic. I cannot wait for the second installment to see where the story and characters go next. If you enjoy character-driven fantasy with a dark edge and beautiful world-building, this one is definitely worth picking up. This pulled me in from the very beginning.
"God's he is going to ruin me, and I don't even care"
Vitalia completely pulled me in (had me at dragon shifters, enemies to lovers and a very compelling world) I genuinely couldn’t put it down and ended up finishing it in a single day.
Set against a dark, intoxicating circus backdrop, the story follows a world of illusion, danger, and hidden identities, where nothing and no one is quite what they seem. That atmosphere was one of my favourite parts; it felt vivid, moody, and just a little bit haunting in the best way with great twists.
The romance absolutely delivered. I loved the fierce MMC, the tension, the restraint, the way everything simmered beneath the surface. The slow burn was done so well, with that addictive push and pull and layered identity dynamic that keeps you second-guessing and wanting more. Their connection felt intense and earned, which made every interaction hit harder.
It also leans into some of the most satisfying tropes: hidden identities, power imbalance, emotional walls, and that sense of “there’s more to you than you’re letting on” all wrapped up in a story that feels fast-paced but still immersive. It really is one of those books that balances plot and romance really well while keeping the tension high throughout.
Overall, such an addictive, atmospheric read with a compelling romance and a setting that lingers. Perfect if you love prophecy, fated mates, fae & dragon shifters fantasy with slow-burn tension and morally intense characters. Very ready for book 2 and more of them and this world. Thanks so much Netgalley for the e-arc and Eliza for writing this!
Oh. My. God. That was such an amazing read and I loved every single second of it!!
I don’t even know where to start… the plot is so unique and interesting and I genuinely did not see it coming. No spoilers but just know — this one has absolutely secured itself in my top 5 favourite reads. TOP 5. I don’t say that lightly and Vitalia earned every bit of it.
Let’s talk about Naevyn first because she deserves it. She’s reserved and honestly?? I would be too. She’s strong, she’s hurt, and she takes everything she’s been through and just fuels herself with it… her development throughout this book was genuinely mind blowing to me. If you know you know. I cannot say more without spoilers but just trust me on this one.
And then there’s Cairos… CAIROS. Grumpy and sexy the whole time and then by the end?? He just has you in an absolute chokehold and I am not okay about it 😍 Him and Naevyn together are just so perfect. Eliza did slow burn so incredibly right with this one. The tension?? The banter?? The close proximity?? All of it just hit so right. I was feral the entire time.
The plot twists had me completely spiraling and everything about this book feels so intentional and carefully crafted. You can just tell how much thought went into every single detail.
Dark romantasy girlies this one is for US. Just pick it up immediately and thank me later.
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ — Naevyn is that girl and Cairos has me in a chokehold. I am not okay and I love it.
“You’re your own fire,” he says, voice dropping lower. “Your own fury. And I want you. Not because you remind me of someone else. Not because you fill a hole she left. But because you’re you. You’re devastating, and I want you so much it physically hurts.”
Wow! What a book! I’ve read quite a few books by now but this was the first ever circus themed (fyi I’ve been wanting to read one just like this for such a long time) I’ve found the author Eliza Brenner by accident on social media and had to read her book straight away!
What this book offers: A vicious and cocky fae MMC (I was sold) Prophecy (I was sold) Fated mates (I was sold) Curse (I was sold) Banter (I was sold) Dragons (I was sold)
As you can see from the above this book has everything I love! And man I loved this book a lot! Eliza’s writing was very funny but not too much or overwhelming, the characters are loveable, the spice was sizzling and the world was very interesting. I loved the chemistry between the FMC and the MMC, I loved the banter and loved how the FMC found her voice and become stronger. The twist surprised me a lot and the ending was finally not a heart shattering cliffhanger but a nice ease to the next book which I am very much looking forward to reading! ❤️
"Remember you're mine," he snarls, his mouth hot at my ear, "because when we burn this whole fucking world down, it's me you'll stand beside."
This book was excellent, so well written. It was an easy read and very enjoyable. The pacing was quick, there was always something happening. I absolutely loved the setting of the glass forest, this truly challenged my imagination. The circus angle was really interesting.
The love story seemed quick, however, as you get towards the end it makes sense as to why. My heart was breaking as we learned what had happened to Bellamie.
The book had a great ending, lots to come in the next book, but it didn't end in a cliffhanger. Looking forward to the next book!
Guys this book is so so so good it’s just magical! By chapter one I was hooked the way she described everything and drew me in and by chapter two I just know it was going to be a 5 ⭐️ read for me, and it did not disappoint it just got better as it went. Parts had meat the edge of my seat holding my breath with anticipation and let me tell you so stuff I did not see coming. The enemies to lovers was perfect I could feel the tension and heat between them. This book was just amazing
Thank you to Eliza Benner for sending me an ARC of Vitalia — all thoughts are my own.
What an incredible read! Dragon shifters, fae, and circus magic? Say less. I was hooked within the first few chapters. The story dives right in, and the pacing kept me fully invested from the start.
Eliza’s descriptions are true storytelling — the settings felt vivid and immersive, and I could clearly picture every location as I read. The blend of circus magic, prophecy, and slow-burn romance creates a rich fantasy world that feels both whimsical and emotionally grounded.
The banter and tension between Naevyn and Cairos? Absolute perfection. Their enemies-to-lovers dynamic is filled with sharp dialogue, forced proximity, and just enough morally gray energy to keep things interesting. Watching their relationship build throughout the book was one of my favorite parts.
There were several plot twists I thought I had figured out — and I was completely wrong. I love when a book keeps me guessing.
I also appreciated that the ending didn’t leave us on a devastating cliffhanger. It felt more like a “to be continued,” which has me so excited for book two. Tropes: enemies to lovers, forced proximity, morally gray MMC
POV: first person Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️ Standalone/Series: Book 1 of a series Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
This is easily one of my favorite reads of the year, and I cannot wait to see where the story goes next.
unbelievable, mind blowing, I don't have enough words to express what I read but I do have words to express how the h... did I miss this beautiful book till now... perfect enemies to lovers, perfect fantasy, perfect fae folk story, perfect MC's, everything perfect....this deserves a 5 star and I can't wait to read the next book, very excited for it Eliza has a very special talent as the book, while I was reading right from the first page I can see the words becomes live infront of my eyes, from page 1 to last page, each word, each scene, each character have become live as if I'm seeing a live picture... this book is not slow motioned but it's a way of slow where you want to live each and every moment, every emotion and every desire ❣️ #NaeRos - loved the MC's and gave them this hashtag name..... and lastly the confessions were pure chef kiss from the male lead... we saw confessions from females more but here the male lead confessing again and again in different manner and going deep with every confession of love... i love this most
This one completely pulled me in and didn’t let go. From the very beginning, there’s this tension in the air that just keeps building, and I found myself flying through the pages because I needed to know what was coming next. The world felt vivid without being overwhelming, and the stakes were high in a way that actually made me feel something instead of just reading about it.
The characters were a big win for me. They weren’t perfect, and that’s what made them so easy to connect to. You could feel the weight of everything they were going through, especially with the bond between them and how much they were willing to risk. There’s this strong undercurrent of loyalty and found family that really hit for me.
And the dragon shifter element? So well done. It added that extra layer of intensity and power without taking away from the emotional side of the story. Everything just balanced really well—action, emotion, tension—it all worked together instead of competing.
Overall, this was one of those reads that sticks with you after you finish. Definitely recommend if you love high-stakes stories with strong connections and a touch of the supernatural.
What a fabulous read! I mean dragons, twists and turns, slow burn romance, fated mates, a bad guy who is really just a bad guy because he can, and a beautiful ending that’ll leave you wanting book to now is just a few of the ways I’d describe Vitalia! And it’s one I’d highly recommend if all of that and more sounds like your perfect next read!
Did I absolutely stay up way into the wee morning hours to finish this book because I couldn’t find it in me to put it down for even a moment… yes, yes I did. And I don’t regret it for even a second because this whole story was just amazing from start to finish! I mean our main characters are just so easy to relate to and their chemistry, banter, and romance alone will keep you wanting to know what happens next… which doesn’t even include the actual plot twists and turns that’ll have you on the edge of your seat! Truly this book was just seriously such a great read that I’d highly recommend it if you’re in need of a story where human girl who is just trying to make it in a harsh world and protect those she’s loves is thrust into a magical war she never chose and never wanted any part of but does her best to adapt and overcome… even if she stumbles along the way. A dragon-shifter MMC who is brooding, morally grey, and protects those he considers his family fiercely. A romance that is slow, slow, slow burning but full of tensions, so much banter, and just a dash of spice. Topped off with an ending that’ll leave you wanting to read book two immediately!
I just finished Vitalia by Eliza Benner and I genuinely loved it.
It has everything I didn’t know I needed all in one story. Dystopian realms, portals, dragons, an evil king, and a world that feels layered and dangerous in the best way. The stakes felt real, and I was completely pulled into it.
The romance is a slow burn enemies to lovers, which is my favorite when it’s done right. The tension builds steadily, and every interaction had me hooked. I kept telling myself “one more chapter” and suddenly it was way past my bedtime. I just had to know what was going to happen next.
If you like fantasy with high stakes, a touch of darkness, and a romance that simmers before it sparks, this one is absolutely worth the read.
This book has a little bit of everything, and I enjoyed all of that everything immensely! Beautiful world building, deeply flawed but diverse characters, some exciting and unexpected twists, and the perfect amount of spice (in my opinion). The circus setting is wonderfully creative and interesting, as well. Naevyn is strong, yet empathetic, and neither of those characteristics feel forced at any time. Cairos is a fierce and protective and swoon worthy MMC. Overall, the story flows beautifully and all of the pieces of the puzzle fit together nicely! I'm not sure how many books will be in the series, but I can't wait for the next one!
Some of the tropes present: dragon shifters, enemies to lovers, fates soulmates, who did this to you?
4.5/5⭐ 2.5/5🌶️
I received this as an advanced copy through the author. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to read it!
I absolutely loved this book. Fae Dragon shifters (Yes, Please!) An evil king A wicked curse Slow burn Witty Banter Spice that doesn't sacrifice plot
The story follows a young girl who is the sole provider for her brother and her friend after her parents die. She works hard and barely earns enough to feed the 3 of them. When she is invited to attend the Kings Circus she hesitates but her friend convinces her to do something for herself for once. She goes and her world, her life as she knew it changes forever.
I was hooked from the very beginning! The world building and plot blend nicely. The FMC Naevyn, is such a breath of fresh air. No whining and no wanting someone else to save her. The MMC is tough and tormented but with true heart. The two of them together are fire! I absolutely can't wait for book 2. Well done Eliza Benner
First of all to the author: thanks for sending me an advance reader copy of your book! I couldn’t put it down. (Even while sick, which means it’s really good)
This book, had me riveted super early on. The fmc is such a strong and resilient character no matter what life throws her way she doesn’t give up. I was completely enamored with how the story twists and turns throughout the book series. I didn’t expect a lot of what happened to happen. You do learn to be careful who you trust from early on though.
There are hot dragon shifters, magic, mayhem, family bonds, a super evil villain, fated mates what’s not to like? This story does have some times when it has to go into some back story but it’s relevant to why things play out the way that they do.
I also absolutely love how the author describes things with such rich attention to detail and color it helps us as readers get a clear view in our heads of what the characters and the background scenes look like which really helps to create the proper level of suspense.
Would highly recommend reading! I can’t wait til book two comes out! But I hear it comes out in June! So excited!! I can’t wait to see what happens next!
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
The plot in this story was unique and I was fully engaged from the start. The imagery and description of the various settings, especially the glass forest, created a beautiful scenery in my mind and I was able to relate to the characters as if they were my own friends or family.
The circus theme was something I’ve never read before and spice was top notch, too.
I could not put it down. I like the story. and I love the characters. sounds like there may be a second book. I can't wait to read it. Great fae and dragons story. had good world building and great mental images. it was like a movie for me.
I received an copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This book was such a good time! I don’t think I’ve read anything quite like this. Dragons are super popular in the fantasy world right now, but this take was completely different.
There were a few twists I didn’t see coming which made it a fun read.
Hard to leave a review without spoilers. I loved Naevyn and Cairos’s dynamic and the slow burn paid off.
Highly recommend if you like: Yearning It’s always been you Magic Dragons Banter “Who did this to you”
Oh my, that was a such great read! I loved how it ends in a “to be continued “ instead of a big ugly “cliffhanger “. The pace of the story was interesting and intense. But the plot twist (even though I foresaw something happening) but wasn’t fully expecting it, it was still a shock. I’m excited to see where this goes!!
Advanced Reader Copy!!! I’m so glad so was able to read this book early!!! If you love dragons and romance with spice, then you’ll love the book as much as I did!! It’s a page turner you will not want to put down!
This book was spellbinding! The world building was captivating, the love story was beautiful and the writing was amazing. I can't wait for the second book!!
Naevyn is a human who works in the mines in her town just trying to put food on the table. Cairos is a dragon shifter fae who is barely 900 years old. One day the circus comes to the town that Naevyn lives in and she is invited to go. Once the performance is over the circus performers turn into dragons and siphon off the souls of everyone in attendance but for someone reason it doesn't work with her. She is taken to the fae realm and is told that she is the key to a prophecy and told to train for the circus to kill the king. Chaos ensues from there.
I need everyone to read this now. It is a crime that I only heard about this book by stumbling across the author on threads. It has a lot of elements that people enjoy in fantasy books without feeling like a copy and paste of others out there. Fae, dragons, magic, oppressive and corrupt government, rebellion, found family, sarcastic banter, badass fmc, plus the circus. That was a really interesting element. The banter was so good. It balances the line of sarcastic and witty without being rude or crass. The romance was excellent. I want to see more of the side characters moving forward, they make a good edition and will help move the story along in the rest of the series.
This book should be extremely popular and I will shout its praises from the rooftops if I have to.

And in his amber eyes, I see something that looks like gratitude. Like I'm the only thing keeping him from drowning in six hundred years of grief. The only problem is, I'm not sure if I can even keep my own head above water.
I'm bothered because I want you so badly I can barely breathe. Because every time you look at me, I forget how to think. When you touch me, even just to bandage a wound, I have to remind myself not to pull you closer and never let go. Something about you draws me in so fucking much, I think I'll die if I don't have you.
You're your own fire. . . Your own fury. And I want you. Not because you remind me of someone else. Not because you fill a hole she left. But because you're you. You're devastating, and I want you so much it physically hurts.
I want to take you to that bed. . . Want to strip every piece of fabric off your body. Want to taste every inch if your skin until you forget anyone that existed before me. I want all of you. Your body, your soul, your every thought. I want to mark you so every other fae knows you're mine.
He drinks in every inch as it's revealed, slow and deliberate, like every patch of bare skin is a secret he's being trusted to keep.
Say it again. . . I want to hear my name in your mouth when I make you fall apart.
He fucks me, carnal, like I belong to him. Like I've always belonged to him. Like this moment has lived in his bones since time began, and he's only now finally getting to claim it. And he is claiming it - claiming me.
I close my eyes and let the tears come, hot and angry and heartbroken, while the memory of his hands on my skin feels like a lie I told myself in the dark.
Bellamie was my soulmate. . . We found each other, loved each other, lost each other. And I thought that was it. That I'd had my one chance. . . But you. . . You are my soulmate, now. The same soul I loved before, yes, but also someone entirely new. Someone I'm discovering all over again. And I understand now. I was always going to find you in this lifetime and the next. In every lifetime.
I need to protect you. Not because you're weak - Gods know you're one of the strongest fucking people I've ever met - but because you're mine and I won't survive losing you a second time.
What we've become is real. . . And I don't love you because you're Bellamie reborn. I love you because you're Naevyn. You're everything.
And whoever Bellamie was, whatever Valthaeron intended for his latest circus, I'm going to write my own ending. With Cairos by my side. In this lifetime and every one after.
Remember you're mine. . . because when we brun his whole fucking world down - it's me you'll stand beside.
Because I'm not just one little girl. . . I'm everyone you've ever hurt. I'm every soul you've stolen. I'm the daughter you murdered for telling the truth.
4.5⭐️ - 1🌶 ☆ Dragon shifter MMC ☆ Enemies to lovers ☆ Fated mates ☆ Touch her and die ☆ Prophecy
NetGalley ARC review Thanks to Netgalley, Victory Editing Netgalley Co-op and Eliza Benner for the free copy.
What a ride. I devoured this book. This was giving me all the vibes I want from a romantasy. At several points, I was giggling and kicking my feet. An excellent example of a not true enemies to lovers, but still done right.
One thing that sort of bothered me was thr Bellamie storyline. It felt a bit unnecessary and that piece wasn't for me. But the rest? Fantastic. Not quite a cliffhanger, but open enough to keep me interested in book 2. Definitely recommend.
Favorite quotes:
> And holy hell, who is this mysterious stranger with a voice so devastatingly appealing that I’m actually tempted to go with him purely for the pleasure of hearing him speak? No, Naevyn. Just because a man’s voice is as sweet as honey doesn’t mean he deserves your trust.
> “You act like you can’t stand me,” he murmurs, “but your body tells a very different story.” He leans in just enough that I feel his breath on my cheek. “I can smell it on you.”
> “Whatever helps you sleep at night. Or should I say, whatever helps you sleep with me.” “I hate you,” I call after him. “I know,” he replies lazily without looking back. I stare after him, outrage simmering in my chest. I’m going to kill him. I swear I am. Right after I stop blushing. Fuck.
> “I’m bothered because I want you so badly I can barely breathe. Because every time you look at me, I forget how to think. When you touch me, even just to bandage a wound, I have to remind myself not to pull you closer and never let go. Something about you draws me in so fucking much, I think I’ll die if I don’t have you.”
> “Fae call it cirance,” he says quietly. “Soul recognition. When you look at someone and just know they’re meant to be yours. That some fundamental part of you has found its other half.”
The opening was strong — immediate tension, clear stakes, and efficient world-building without dragging readers through artificial mystery. I appreciated that key elements of the central conflict were established early. There’s nothing more frustrating than withheld information just for the sake of prolonging suspense, and this book didn’t rely on that tactic.
Naevyn is a compelling FMC — 25, hardened by poverty, fiercely protective of her siblings, and no stranger to responsibility. That lived-in grit made her decisions feel grounded rather than impulsive. I especially loved that she held her ground in her banter with the MMC. Their dynamic is sharp, sarcastic, and very enemies-to-lovers in the best way — tension built through dialogue rather than insta-attraction alone.
The world-building feels purposeful without being overwhelming, and the overarching conflict sets up an intriguing trajectory for the series.
If I have one critique, it’s that some revelations felt slightly delayed, and I’m hoping book two expands the emotional depth even further. I found myself wanting just a bit more interior vulnerability as the story progressed.
Overall, this was a solid, engaging read with strong tension and promising groundwork for what’s to come. I’m looking forward to seeing how the relationships — and the larger stakes — evolve in the next installment.
Vitalia is exactly the kind of romantasy I reach for—and it delivers on every front.
Eliza Benner has packed this book with all the trappings that make good romantasy books good: a competent FMC who doesn't need to be rescued, a morally gray MMC with centuries of blood on his hands and a smirk you want to slap off his face (and also maybe kiss), dragon-shifters, fae politics, a slow burn that actually burns, enemies-to-lovers tension so thick you could cut it, and a prophecy that demands blood. It's a checklist of everything I love, executed with confidence and genuine spark.
The opening hook is killer—a circus that locks a village in place while performers shift into dragons and rip souls from bodies? I was immediately locked in. Naevyn is the kind of heroine I root for: she's fierce without being reckless, vulnerable without being helpless, and her dynamic with Cairos crackles from their very first interaction. He's a monster. She should hate him. She definitely shouldn't want him. Reader, she wants him. And so did I.
The world-building is immersive without being overwhelming, the pacing kept me turning pages well past when I should have gone to sleep, and the romance is spicy, electric, and earned.
This is a fantastic series opener and I'm already counting down to Book Two.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing an advance copy in exchange for an honest review.
Eliza Benner is a beautiful writer that tells beautiful stories. I've never really considered Romantasy to be a top genre of mine, but I thoroughly enjoyed this book.
Vitalia has deep, dynamic characters that I fell in love with. Naevyn is strong but kind and Cairos is tough and tormented with a heart of gold. At no point did Naevyn's fierceness or strength seem forced - Benner did a great job of making her an empathetic character with realistic boundaries. And Cairos -oh, my heart. He's such a complex character, forced into what is essentially slavery to a king with evil intentions, while wanting to do the right thing all along.
The relationship between Naevyn and Cairos is deep and swoonworthy. The devotion and intensity of the relationship matches that of a Sarah J. Maas pairing, but in no way does this book feel derivative.
The whole concept of the book uses tropes to its advantage. Not every aspect of it breathes originality, but it knows what it is and who its audience is - and Benner writes from the heart.
Overall, I loved this book and I imagine the characters will stay with me for a long time. I am eagerly awaiting the second book.
I received and advanced reader copy of Vitalia from the author and am writing this review of my own accord. Thank you to the author for my copy! I loved it.
