She approached as close as she dared, almost touching the older woman’s knee with her bare leg. “Your skin is so pale,” Houda murmured. She touched Jenny’s stomach, her finger drawing a slow journey down. “Yeah,” Jenny said, groaning. “It’s the bane of my life. But don’t worry, I’m sure if I go to a tanning salon I can get darker.” “As dark as me?” the older woman asked playfully. She let her whole arm touch Jenny’s torso, highlighting the contrast between her Arab pigmentation and Jenny’s fair skin. Jenny laughed. “I wish I was as dark as you. I hate being so white. It’s totally boring.” “Your underwear,” Houda said. She slipped a fingernail into the lace waistband of Jenny’s panties. “It doesn’t fit properly. It’s a bit tight, don’t you think?” “I’m sorry,” Jenny gasped. “Deborah just told me about the lingerie thing this morning. This stuff was the best I could find at the department store on short notice. I know it sucks.” “Yes, it does indeed suck.” The older woman pulled the elastic material out to its limit before letting it snap back onto the girl’s skin. “I’m sorry,” Jenny repeated, trying not to wince with the sting. “Do you want me to take it off?” A long pause followed. “I have a better idea.”
