Meh!!!! I didn’t feel any chemistry between this two at all(chemistry is subjective so maybe it’s just me). I also found the mystery side of the story a little ridiculous and usually how these type of stories are resolved either make or break the story for me and this resolution…broke it! Sigh.

Okay.. So this is the first book that I've read by this author.. Though it appears that I've added 3 other books by her to my TBR, since 2015.. So I can't speak for sure on if this didn't reach 5 star status for me, because it's just her style of writing, or if she just can't write a novella short as well as her full length novels.. That remains to be seen since this is my 1st read by her. But that being said, I am in-like with this story..

I LOVE Owen and Mei.. I really loved them together as well.. They just click.. They have this white-hot chemistry that just would not be denied.. But they're good people. You just want what is best for them and I love that in a story..

I hated Owen's ex Leah, but you're supposed to hate her.. She was written to represent all the selfish, money hungry cold b^tches of this world, and she represented them beautifully.. You're always glad that Owen got shot of her a&& from the very beginning of the story.. I love all 3 of Owen's kids-Rhett, Cason and Addison as well.. He had them with the b^tch.. I guess you could say that's the only beautiful thing she gave to him, but clearly these kids had way more of their father in them than their mother.. Thank Goodness.

The mystery plot here surrounding Mei's mother Jin and her secrets, keeps you engaged and eager to know what the truth is.. But it all fell flat for me when you realize exactly what's been going on. So I guess in this way the journey & anticipation was way more exciting than the actual destination was.. And even though things were made right as rain for Mei, her mom,(who you really don't like for most of the story either) Owen and his children; the story doesn't end with the BIG Oomph!! that the journey has lead you to believe will be forthcoming. So this is why it got the 4.25 rating instead..

I also wanted to know more about if Owen's sleep health issues were cured. This was a major part of the plot, but it wound up being heavily glossed over in the aftermath of the climax of the story.

I do like how Owen & Mei's HEA turned out though.

At the time this review was posted, this book was free on KU or $3.99 to purchase. Personally, I think $3.99 is a bit steep for just 139 pages of story. And also for a story as average as this one. This one has a lot of grammar, missing words, and typo issues in it as well. So, if the price is going to stay the same in order to own it, then an editor definitely needs to be here like yesterday.

I hated this so much that I don’t even want to write a review.

Owen (38-ish) is divorced but his wife wants custody of their kids. She says he’s a danger to them since he has a sleep disorder and walks around at night. His doctor wants someone to help her get an apartment or something. He agrees to marry her as a benefit to both of them, in name only.

Her daughter Mei (18, virgin) comes to live with them. He takes her V. They get a HFN.

I think I was pissed because of all the time and details put into the backstory of him and his wives and their issues instead of focusing on him and Mei as a couple? IDK. I just know that I hated it.

'I’m attracted to my stepfather. Really, really into him. I’ve been hanging on his every word and devouring him with my gaze. And that’s after hardly twelve hours of knowing him. What is wrong with me? Furthermore, how do I get it to stop?'

hmmm… see, i’m torn about this. i went into this book knowing it was taboo, and usually i love taboo books, but only if they’re well done. this just wasn’t it for me.😓🫠🫣

i didn’t like the random mystery, or how her mom and him suddenly seemed to be in love after two seconds. at first they were just friends, and then all of a sudden they’re calling each other “baby” and kissing?? that really confused me.

also, mei’s personality… interests… ??? kinda bland. 🙃🫠

i also didn’t really get their relationship. it felt more like lust than anything else, but then they’d say, “this is more than sex.” is it, though?? 🤔

'That was too close. Next time we’ll need to be more careful.'

'I’m so far gone for this girl.'

'I've gone too deep with this man. My heart is tangled with his in ways that don’t make sense.'

“You’re trying to kill me,” I mutter, voice hoarse. “So damn beautiful.”

✨My Review ✨

I’ve been in the longest book rut of my life and absolutely devoured this book. Storyline gave very telenovela drama and I loved it!

Haven’t loved a K Webster book like this since Hale!

My only critique is I would’ve preferred the heroine be older tbh. Not a fan of the teen girl grown man trope.

When it comes to age-gap taboo, K Webster is the author I am going to turn to first. That’s been the case for almost a decade, and I don’t see that changing any time soon. That being said, sometimes, she doesn’t quite hit the “edgy” mark that I have come to expect from her with her “taboo treats”. This is one of those times. The story was … plain? UGH, I don’t know what word to use but it didn’t have that edgy spark that she normally delivers. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed this and it was well written for a fast-paced-insta story, but … *sigh*

It's been a minute since I’ve read any story by Kristi and maybe this is how she writes her “treats” now. I don’t know, but even if she has “grown”, the title along for this story “screams” edgy and it just wasn’t there.

So, on to the next “treat” and see how that goes!

Let see what I need to get out of my chess first. The premises of this book were really good and intrigued me so much. Feeling for stepfather definitely a taboo theme. Adding huge age gap (I assumed) since the FMC was only 18, another point plus in taboo side of the story. But this book missed all those details, I didn't know how old Owen (the MMC) was. Either I didn't catch it or I just entirely skip the part where Owen told his age. Owen and Mei (the heroine) chemistry was also not good at all. For me, they didn't even have any sizzling lust. They just suddenly kissed and had sex and loved each other. I normally fine with instalove, but in this book, the instalove was not well delivered. The plot twists were also weird. So messy and chaotic. The ending was also anticlimactic. What I disappointed a lot was there was no explanations on how Owen's three kids (which almost the same age with Mei) reacted on Mei being Owen's partner. Like I said, the story was so freaking messy. I understand that this is novella and the author might want to keep everything light, but this book left me unsatisfied with almost everything.

Thank you to K. Webster and Chaotic Creatives for the ARC.

★☆☆☆☆ hard no.

I was initially willing to squint past the sleepwalking angle of Owen in this book. Then I read Room for Three , and the blinders came off. Owen doesn’t deserve sympathy arcs or romantic framing. He deserves consequences. Jail feels like the bare minimum.

Disorder doesn’t excuse behavior. Ever. Especially not when the response is manipulation and quiet threats instead of accountability and safety. The emotional coercion to keep her silent. The aftermath is the crime scene. The whispers. The “don’t tell or you’ll ruin my life.” The way authority is used like a chokehold without leaving marks.

For my justification i'll just put this here from Savvy's book:

“There was only one time that really scared me,” she whispers. “I’d gone to the bathroom in the middle of the night. When I returned, he was in my bed. Naked.”

He grabbed me like this.” Her hand slides off the pillow and up my chest. When it encircles my throat, I see red. “I think he was worried I’d tell on him or something. It wasn’t painful, but it was a firm grip that made me gasp for air. He said that it was an accident but if anyone found out, it would ruin his life and tear apart his family.” She sniffles.

“He was so close it was rubbing against my leg. While he whispered how much it would harm him for others to know, I was worried he’d do something worse. But then, as quickly as it began, he released my neck, kissed my forehead, and then left the bedroom.” Owen flashes me one of his signature grins that used to warm me until I realized his nighttime problem. Until he rubbed his cock on me while in a sleepy trance. Now he makes my skin crawl.

This one is after Savvy left the family and Owen and his family came to the diner where she was working:

Owen steps behind me as I’m taking an order, placing his hand on my lower back. He whispers in my ear. “You’re doing great, Savvy. I paid cash. The leftover amount is your tip. Have fun, dear.”

I squeak when he pats my ass and then walks away.

His Wife's Daughter was a quick and surprisingly sweet, taboo romance. I was hooked from the start and finished this novella in one sitting.

Owen is dealing with his psychotic ex-wife trying to take him to court for custody of their kids. She is trying to defame his character, using his sleepwalking condition, saying he cannot provide a safe environment for their children. His sleep therapist offers a marriage of convenience because she also needs his help financially.

Her 18 year old daughter is shocked to learn of the marriage when she comes home from visiting her father. Owen feels for her situation and just wants to make her feel at home with his family. He tries to offer more support and attention because her mother his very distant. The more time they spend together, the more he gets attached emotionally and physically.

I could really feel their connection and chemistry, even though this is a short story. I loved how they both supported each other. There were some really sweet moments.

I docked half a star because I just thought the whole way this marriage of convenience happened felt so unlikely and it was a weird/abrupt conversation when they decided to do this. I also thought there would have been a little fallout when the stepdaughter/stepfather relationship was revealed and everyone was just fine with it.

Still enjoyed this and I am definitely interested to read his oldest son's book.

Thank you to K Webster for providing the ARC.

"I'm attracted to my stepfather...
What is wrong with me?"

I adore K. Webster's stories, and I was intrigued by the idea of a stepfather-stepdaughter romance!!!
It was a nice read... a little bit more sweeter than I had expected and from time to time, it felt kind of unrealistic!!!
Yep, this was a small treat and it was delicious, but at the same time, it wasn't something special that i won't stop thinking about when I will finish it!!!

Owen had made a marriage of convinience with Mei's mother, who was kind of a bitch!!!
Mei got enamored with Owen from the very first moment and their story, at least to me, didn't feel so taboo-ish... It felt kind of natural!!!! So I wasn't very impressed, as with many other stories by Kristy!!!
Still, I had a lovely evening reading this small story!!! A small treat indeed!!!

**I received an ARC for the exchange of an honest review**

this book was pretty entertaining even though it was kind of odd
(who am I kidding this is lowkey right up my alley)

like clearly I know what I signed up for and despite it being an age gap/ step romance some stuff threw me off a bit.

likeeeeee the insta attraction actually would’ve worked for a book like this, but I feel like it kinda wasn’t as entertaining as it potentially could’ve been since jin and owen weren’t into each other at all.

so in other words I expected it to be messier but it was almost a little too simple 😅.
another thing wassss..
i don’t ever remember hearing his age.

figuring out the other mystery aspects of the story were kinda interesting. then we got a little deeper into the story and at a point it was too many side plots for me. especially since it wasn’t a shocker that penny was christopher’s daughter.

but anyways happy family or whatever now
3/5

In the midst of a bitter divorce, Owen Monahan is desparate to put an end to his ex wife's harassment and enters into an arrangment with his doctor, Dr. Jin Lau. However, Owen didn't expect the complications when meeting Jin's daughter, Mei.

This novella is quick paced and feels like a complete story. Given what occurs between Owen and Mei, there was also an interesting subplot involving Jin. His Wife's Daughter may appeal to those seeking an age-gap romance with taboo elements.

This was a quick and cute read. I’m 50/50 on it because while it was very loving and sweet what Mei and Owen had, Mei pissed me off a lot of the book questioning why Owen was so hot and cold with her as if it wasn’t a big deal that he wasn’t only her step father aka mothers husband, but also way older than her🙃.

Daddy and his Angel

As always another home run from this author. I absolutely tore this book up today. I loved Owen and Mei. I have been on a dark romance kick and this was a nice change, reading about a stand up good man with morals. I didnt think it was possible for me to come around to liking Iin but I DID! Great story now cant wait for Rhett’s!!!
