This book was much better than the last one I read by this author. (Possible spoilers ahead with a recap)
It was a predictable plot, but it was interesting enough that I didn’t skim or DNF. The 3 stars are for the rejection. It was done well. I felt bad for the poor woman. I wanted to burn the whole pack down.
The “step brother” tag is a stretch. This is more like a foster situation. h’s mom died. H’s dad knew h’s mom, so he bought h to his house, where he lived with his wife and H (his son)
H’s dad was dying, and he made H promise to protect h. Everybody treated h like garbage because supposedly her mom was a wh*re. (The whole backstory with this is H’s dad was Fated Mates with H’s mom, but he didn’t feel love for her. He actually fell in love with h’s mom. No, he was NOT h’s dad. h’s biological dad had died years before.)
h is extremely timid, and lets people treat/talk to her like 💩. She has been abused for years, most of it coming from H’s mom.
So…..H owns a major company, and out of the kindness of his heart, he lets h work there. 🥴 He starts to catch feelings for her. Mommy dearest wants H to marry Selena (OW) to unite packs.
H agrees to the marriage. Selena will move in with them until the ceremony in a month. 😂😂 He’s conflicted though because he keeps thinking of h.
In typical shifter fashion, h needs something from H’s study late one night. He happens to be there. They touch, and the *mate bond* snaps in place between them. h is a V. And….they have smex. He makes her a whole lot of promises, and the next morning, he tells her they need to keep their relationship secret. (So many red flags 🚩)
h goes to work, and she is told she has to go to Zurich for work. Uh huh. Within 3 hours, she’s on a plane and leaves. h is there for 3 weeks. 😂😂 She kept trying to call H for weeks, and he never replied. (We find out later that H was the one who approved of h going to Zurich. He thought the space would help)
Sidenote- h does meet a nice alpha in Zurich. He’s not important to the story other than that he helps her and the kid.
h returns in time to make it to H’s engagement party. H is very distant with h and won’t talk with her. Selena sees h at the party. Selena attacks h by pulling her hair. She pulls h into the crowd and accuses h of using dark magic to force a mate bond on H. H’s mom slaps h in front of everybody and calls her a w*ore. Then crowds of people started hitting her and throwing stuff at her. Poor girl had to cover her face. This H literally just stood there and did NOTHING.
Yeah, this H is not redeemable. I’d throw him into a wood chipper.
So H finally tells everybody to stop. Then he rejects h. The pain she suffered when the bond was ripped out of her was sad. Then, to really drive his point home, he said the bond was false. “A trick of proximity and forbidden attraction. Nothing more”
Then he chooses Selena as his mate and formally announces their engagement. Nicccce Something inside of h broke so hard that her wolf completely retreated. 😭
H went back to partying and celebrating with his guests. h got her stuff and left. She called OM, and he helped her leave to go back to Zurich.
I’d definitely rate the whole rejection 5 stars. It leaves you feeling All.The.Emotions. 😭
Ahhhh, now from H’s POV, we find out his mother threatened to kill h if he didn’t reject her and marry Selena. (This is where I got super frustrated. You’re an ALPHA, and you can’t put your mom in her place? Ugh)
Anyway, he goes to find h because NOW he’s feeling bad and he’s heartbroken she’s gone 🙃🙃
H finds out that Selena has been shady and doing stuff with another guy. H MARRIED THE OW, SELENA and the ring he gave her has a tracking device in it. From his POV, we discover he only married Selena to trap her and discover who else is involved. Wut?
5 years later and h has a 4-year-old daughter, Adele. Now h is a VP of a major company. Her friend, OM, is sending her back to work on a major deal. She brings the kid (who happens to look just like her dad) 🥴 For some bizarre reason, she’s changed up her appearance, but that doesn’t matter one bit because EVERYONE knows it’s her. Lol
Naturally, H sees her at an event. He’s been looking for her all these years. And yes, he’s still married to Selena. (At one point, his POV mentions that he hasn’t been intimate with Selena “since their wedding day” but later he mentions he’s never “been with her” so 🤷♀️🤷♀️ it’s a little vague on if he was celibate the whole 5 years)
Anyway, H discovers quickly that the kid is his. Within 48 hours, people are already trying to kill h and the kid.
There’s a little back-and-forth between the MCs, but not much, because they sleep together soon after their reunion. h wakes up and freaks out OMG YOU’RE STILL MARRIED girrrrrl. 🥴 So yes, there is cheating.
We know that Selena is shagging the villain, and we find out they are actually fated mates. None of this is a shocker because we’ve always known who the villains were. There’s no whodunnit with this book.
H is supposed to protect h and the kid, but there is at least 3 times they are attacked. After 5 years, H finally has the evidence he needs, and they ruin Selena and OM. Selena then almost kills the kid. h throws her down the stairs, and her neck breaks. I couldn’t understand why h felt bad about that. 🙃🙃
OM is all mad about Selena being killed and starts a war. H is wounded and almost dies (total Alpha 🤪). h gives him her blood, and he’s magically cured.
So……grandma (H’s mom) apologized to h and she’s sooooo sorry about how she treated h all those years. h *may* forgive her one day, but she’s not ready to now. Grandma goes away to “find herself” Ummmmm- grandma NEEDED a steel pole through her head. This woman doesn’t deserve to breathe.
H and h finally marry. The pack loves her now (these are the same people who threw garbage at her and called her names. They also abused her for years)
Maybe I’m an evil person who needs therapy, but I feel like the bad people got off easy. I would’ve made H watch me shag/marry that nice OM who actually did protect/love my kid and me those 5 years, THEN…. I would’ve BURNED the whole pack down using H, grandma, and Selena as the kindling. 🤷♀️🤷♀️ Yes, I’m petty.
DNfed at 11%. AI generated and the whole book basically revolves around OW drama. The H actually married the OW after having sex with the h. That's a nope all the way for me.
This book was weak and pretty predictable. There were inconsistencies, was there no editor or proofreader? Then, it gets frustrating that she just takes him back and sleeps with him while he is still married.
First of all, this is supposedly a shifter book, but it felt like the shifter part was shoehorned in there a bit. There was practically No shifting, other than one time for each of them at the end to attack the enemy. It could easily been left out. Why make it a shifter book at all?
This book takes place in Virginia. Then in the last 1/4 or so, suddenly Seattle is mentioned a few times? Then it's back to Virginia again. If you are going to change the location after starting the book, just do a word search in the document to pick up where the old location is still mentioned. It isn't hard. An editor or proofreader would have caught that.
It annoyed me that they were sleeping together while he was still married. I know it was political in name only, but it didn't feel right. She should have stuck to her guns and told him if he was serious about being with her, ne needed to divorce his wife first. If she didn't trust him this time around, that would have given her a big indication.
Seriously, for Five years he had this guy in his company and knew they were plotting, and he just let it happen? That was just stupid. I would not let it go on nearly that long. He was asking for it, at that point.
Last, they were not stepsiblings at all. They lived together with his dad still alive for 3 months, but they weren't anything to each other.
I will not read this again, and I am not going to move to the next book. I just couldn't feel any emotions from anyone.

This started as a pretty standard rejected mate story, the FMC was brought as a child into the Alpha’s home after her mother, the Alpha’s lover, had died in a car accident. The Alpha himself, sick and dying, asks his son to take care of her. Although not blood related, the FMC and MMC are considered step siblings, which is a bit of an ick for me, not really sure why that had to be part of the story. After maturing, they discover they are fated mates and the MMC publicly rejects her at the urging of his mother and his fiancée. Upon the FMC’s return years later as a successful businesswoman, the MMC reveals that yes, he was stupid and suffered, but also rejected her because his mother had threatened her life. He learns that he has a daughter and that gives him more incentive to end his sham of a marriage as his Luna has been plotting against him the whole of their political marriage anyway. The last 1/4 of the story is where it really falls apart. For most of the story the setting is supposed to be Virginia, then suddenly, Seattle is mentioned as where the action is taking place. Also these are supposed to be shifters who are operating billion dollar, global businesses, but an actual shifter war breaks out in the city?? There are other inconsistencies throughout the last part that just made the story messy and disappointing.
Five years later, Isa has rebuilt her life under a new name, raising her daughter and trying to stay far from the danger she left behind. But returning home forces every buried truth to the surface—old promises, old enemies, and the connection she and Dimitri were never able to break.
Isabella Garrett’s life has been shaped by loss from the start — a human mother gone too soon, an absent father, and no family to claim her until Asher Ravencrest arrives with a letter explaining his long‑kept connection to her mother. Asher, Alpha of the Garnia pack and her mother’s true love for seven years, brings Isa into his home, where his fated mate and thirteen‑year‑old son, Dimitri, live. Before Asher passes away from illness, he makes Dimitri promise to protect Isa. Dimitri takes that promise seriously, even as his feelings for her grow into something far deeper than step‑sibling loyalty. For seven years he shields her from his mother’s resentment, keeps her safe within the pack, and even secures her an internship in his company after college — all while fighting the truth his wolf already knows: Isa is his mate.
I enjoyed the story. It's well written and the characters had just enough depth to make you care a little. There was some disjointedness with the plot, enough to get noticed and clocked, but not so blatantly obvious that it completely took away from the story.
My story complaints:
1) WTF did Dimitri wait so long to expose Serena and Ethan. Especially after the audio of them plotting to kill his 4 year old daughter and take over the company. He didn't need anything else and put their lives at risk, which was promptly proven, by waiting. It was nonsensical.
2) Sand in the eyes—classic move when fighting to gain an advantage, right? How about after you've taken a beating by someone twice your size and with your hands still zip tied behind your back? Ummm, no. Honestly brought that whole fight scene to a screeching halt for me because she had to have an Olympic ice skater medalist twirl to get the sand in his eyes.
3) Was Maia Dimitri's dad's fated mate or not? If so, wtf didn't she heal him? No one asked that question? We're just letting it go? Nothing suspicious to see here? Mmmm Kay. Sure. Your funeral.
When Isabella was brought into the Ravencrest Mansion by her Uncle Asher was was always made to feel less than. Feel like she had no place in Ravencrest because Alpha Asher made his choice in choosing who he loved and that was Isabella’s mother.
So for in the years that followed she made herself scarce. Avoiding Maia Ravencrest Alpha Asher’s fated mate and their son and future Alpha Dimitri. But Dimitri made a promise to his dying father that he would take care of Isabella.
But then something changes. One kiss and the Mate Bond reveals itself. Isabella was Dimitri’s Fated Mate and from there a roller coaster of emotions that will keep you glued to your couch. Find out how Dimitri and Isabella overcome everything that was meant to destroy and keep them apart.
A second chance human/shifter romance. With mate bonds, love, romance, second chances and a HEA.
Isabella had lost her mother early in life and had never known her father. When Asher Ravencrest arrived explaining he'd known her mum he invited her to live with his pack as he was the Alpha. But she also moved in with Asher's fated mate who hated her for being the daughter of the woman he'd loved, and his young son, Dimitri. When Asher is dying due to an illness he asked Dimitri to promise to look after Isa, which he did, protecting her from his mum and keeping her safe, ensuring she would have a life after leaving the pack; though he was also fighting the knowledge that his wolf has identified her as his mate.
A great evening read.

This one really does exactly what it says on the tin.
It’s a very typical entry for this trope, so if you enjoy rejected mate stories and alpha dynamics you’ll know pretty quickly what kind of ride you’re getting.
The plot doesn’t try to reinvent anything, but sometimes that’s exactly what you want from this kind of book.
It’s a quick and easy read that leans fully into the trope without overcomplicating things.
Not particularly groundbreaking, but entertaining enough if you’re in the mood for something light and trope-driven.
🐺 rejected mate trope 🔥 alpha MMC 📖 quick easy read ⚡ very tropey 🫣 exactly what it promises
This book had so much going on and was super frustrating at times but I was drawn to it and couldn’t put it down. It was a train wreck in the making. There was loss of family, arranged marriages, one night stand, fated mates, workplace relationship, public rejection, surprise accidental pregnancy, cheating and of course spice. But the trauma that Isabella endured from everyone (the stepmom, the pack, Selena and even Dimitri) just made me want scream for her. The characters and storyline read like a soap opera but I enjoyed it.
I really liked the storyline of this book.. however, there were so many discrepancies that it made it hard to read. Several times I almost DNF, and it wasn’t because the story was bad.. it was technical errors like locations were switched up and that made it hard to follow. For example one moment we’re in Virginia the next Seattle was mentioned. Two totally different sides of the country if we are referring to the US lol. There were also moments when the story would say one thing then a few chapters later it would be something totally different. I’m a very detailed oriented person so those little things had me feeling ehh as it overpowered the plot.
Overall I think this book could’ve been a 4 or even 5 star if it was more consistent and didn’t have all these errors.
This is a really intense story that is full of drama, deceit, hot, steamy, moments, and rejection. Dimitri is the Alpha’s son and Isabella’s fated mate. This story certainly has a lot to unpack before these two are able to settle things together and enjoy their HEA. They face the challenges of pack wars to threats on Isabella and their daughter Adele, but good overcomes evil in the end.

Okay read. I wasn’t overly invested in the MMC if I’m honest. Felt like a superficial relationship as I don’t feel he expressed his apology enough. Isabella didn’t get the depth of explanation of his betrayal enough. I always felt that the mating bond overrode everything but there were 3 examples of having a fated mate but have relationships with others, left me a bit disappointed. The writing was good so will probably give this author another try.
2.5⭐ Was this book even proofed? The editing errors, the inconsistencies, and the missing sentences was horrendous! This book had a good foundation but was brought low by a weak ass hero. Also I wouldn't consider this book a step siblings, it's more in the lines of a foster sibling. She was so mistreated then when gown and betrayed she grew bigger balls than the hero. I learned my lesson, I will not read anymore from this author or series.
First of all, this was very predictable. But one of the biggest things for me was that they were not technically stepsiblings. So I don't know why it was, but as a stepbrother, I almost feel like this is a copy and paste, besides the fact that I'm not technically related by marriage.

A very intense read filled with lots of emotions which pop off the page from the very first chapter. Some violence, some heat snd a whole lot of drama. Great characters, wonderful storyline.

I really enjoyed this book. The first 60% was amazing! Ah! Loved it. The tension between the main characters, the sexual chemistry, the sadness and emotional turmoil. It was intense. Overall, this was well written and a fun read.
I’m so confused why he still married the OW and stated married for 5 YEARS?! He knew weeks before the marriage she was shady but still did it? Also had cheating even though justified. He was weak. She should have stayed with Daddy Kane.

This book grabbed me from the beginning and I couldn't put it down till I finished. The characters make you love them and make you angry, but love wins out. The story takes you on a roller coaster ride, with ups and downs and still keeps you reading. I loved it!
This was well written, there were some odd word choices and phrasing, but I don’t think they distracted too much. Characters had some depth, and the plot was entertaining
This was not, by any account, a great book. This was a book when I wanted something lighthearted and ridiculous and this really was. Lots of logistical errors throughout but the plot was there.
Have read very similar storyline before and guessing the author isn't American? As story set in Virginia but keeps saying they are in seattle, im in uk and know that's 2 different sides of the usa.
