Murder and mayhem ensue in the city when a Troll is murdered. There is discord in the supernatural world in Cincinnati when the Trolls find there is a traitor in their ranks and Evangeline Kane is the prime suspect.
A rift in the ranks of the city's champions is formed that threatens to descend into rebellion.
On the run from the sentinels of the city, the Triumvirate, and the mortal police. Evangeline must fight against time to clear her name while protecting the gateways of two bridges.

A good sequel, to continue to see what is happening with Evie, the reluctant troll of the bridge. And Sharee her Custodian and romantic interest. Plus all our other friends, who are both fae and human.
There are evils and magics conjuring up to implicate Eve in something sinister.
An exciting action-packed installment, that left me entertained and satisfied. The romance is secondary though, so you wouldn't want to read these for the romance alone, otherwise you'd be sorely disappointed. Again I felt it suffered slightly of 'tell, not show' when it came to emotion.
My other complaint is the constant rehashing of previous plot points the author does, which becomes repetitive. I don't feel like in series like this you need to remind the audience of what had previously happened quite so much as the author does here.
A good sequel to an already great first book. Pacing is as good as ever with the author always keeping me on my toes, the characters do grow and the plot is engaging. I'll gladly read the 3rd book too.
This is one of many books I have read by Mr. Schubach, and I can say I am never disappointed in plot, which is my favorite part. This story takes us through a secondary part of Evangeline’s life as the Troll to the Roebling.
Like in his other books, Schubach is fantastic about keeping the pacing up. However, in this one I felt it slowed on occasion, especially when information is repeated. I have read the first book in this series, so a bit of repetition was expected, but there was a distinct redundancy in explanations in this one that is not present in his other works I have read.
This book takes us on a path we never thought we would see, one where Evangeline is suspect, where traitors are among the ranks, near and far, and we don’t know who to trust anymore. Schubach did a great job and keeping me questioning who the bad guy was, or rather, who was working with the bad guy. Not the main enemy, as I figured that was a new character, but who might be working with said enemy.
I also loved the viewpoints from Sharee. We don’t get those in the first book, and while I think Schubach’s methods are a bit jarring with how he changes POV, I did appreciate the change in this novel. I almost wonder how this novel would have been if entirely from the Custodian’s perspective. I think it would have been doubly interesting.
The stories of the characters have deepened as their have personalities grown. I look forward to reading the next, as surely there will be a next.
My words for this book: wow. It is an epic sequel to the first Bridge: Trolls book. Erik went far beyond his normal writing and gives the reader a mystery, a continued love story, a Cowboy (chuckle, we need to let Amy know), and the back story to the Custodian. Erik keeps it real with Kane being in danger. There are several times I wondered if she would live, even on the brink of death. My favourite Detectives come back to keep the humour in the book, and keep us rooted in the "supernatural shit" that is happening.
To sum up, I enjoyed the book a lot. I do hope the next book is as good as this one.
I received this book from the author for an honest review. It is awesome how well Eric writes, I can visualize just want he is describing and the imagination he has to create this series is amazing. The characters feel so real as the words just jump off the pages. It was an exciting action story. All the characters play such a huge part of the story, even the secondary characters. It pulls you in and you can't put it down, it is so riveting. I look forward to more adventures with Evangeline Kane and Sharee.
I loved getting to know more about Kane and especially getting a closer look at Shar. I couldn't put it down because I was determined to figure out what was going on and get the mystery solved. As always his secondary characters are amazing and give you even more depth. I love me some foxes! Can't wait to see what happens next!
I really enjoyed this follow-up to Trolls, the development between Kane and Sharee's characters were really enjoyable letting us see the softer side of the Custodian. I'm all set now for the next chapters in The Bridge: Inner City Gargoyles.
It’s been a while since I had read (or did I listen? I might have listened to) the first one… but slipping back into this lovely UF world was quite easy.
Yes, Evie is a little Mary Sue-ish at times because she is so different and so much better than anyone else! But honestly I didn’t find it that off-putting.
It is still so refreshing.
I liked Tex. I liked all the other minor characters.
I hit the end of the book and for a moment was worried that the series didn’t continue for some reason. Thankfully, there are two more books for me to read. YAY.
Second book in the bridge series. I just adore the world of these books. The writing is enjoyable enough but at times it felt a little repetitive about information we have already learned. This might be more helpful if people read them out of order etc. but reading them in the series as a whole it got a bit annoying at times. Love the characters and adored getting a second POV for this book 😁
Erik, it took me a while to get finished with this one, but it was Awesome. You kept me hanging to the end. I have 2 more to read and finish the Bridge series. Off to my next Adventure.
ThreeandHalfStars This book is about a sexy troll--hey, wait, where are you going? Hear me out. Evangeline Kane is a sexy troll who, through no fault of her own, guards a bridge in Cincinnati.
Fans of Erik will recognize Kane as another charming and sarcastic heroine, tough as nails on the bridge (literally!), soft at heart when it comes to her lover, the Ice Queen.
The urban fantasy world-building is exquisite. Trolls and faeries and gargoyles and otherkin. Since this is the second book in a series, the world feels settled, and real. Reading the first book is not required. He fills in the gaps adeptly.
The book is a pleasant and funny read, typical Erik style.
My main quibble is that this is set in Cincinnati, just like the Hollows series, which brings up witchy comparisons. Is this a tribute? Is this an overlap? Are the bridges just that amazing?
I was given this in return for an honest review by Inked Rainbow Reads. C.E. Case
