Onyx Stone is a billionaire with a controlled exterior, a violent past he keeps buried, and a legacy that demands obedience. An unhinged alpha male by reputation and by blood, he lives by rules that keep him powerful and alive in a world where loyalty is everything and love is a liability.
Quorra Lee Matthews is a self-made business owner, a college student, and a devoted mother who learned early how to survive without a safety net. When the man she trusted gambles away her future, putting her home, her business, and their child in danger, survival stops being a choice and becomes a deadline.
She is forced into a marriage with the last man she would ever choose.
They have never liked each other. Years of sharp words, side-eye, and tension built from being too close for too long. She has been around the Stone family for years as the best friend of his cousin, always present, never welcome in his world. Until now.
Their union is supposed to be temporary. Strategic. Clean. But nothing about her is easy, and nothing about him is untouched by her.
As obligation turns into intimacy, enemies resurface, secrets test loyalty, and a child becomes the heartbeat holding them together. In this African American romance where hood love collides with billionaire power, they learn that choosing each other may be the most dangerous move of all.
Because peace does not mean safety. And in a family built on money, control, and blood, love can be the deadliest weakness of all.
This one was tough to get through; I kept hoping it would get better, but… Now don’t get me wrong, the story had potential but it was too many holes for me… Like they supposedly hated each other, but were never told why, but the moment they agree to marry, they’re cool? How?! And how did she know about what he had to do, his cousin didn’t even know. But she knew he had to marry? He was supposed to marry for love, per grandpa’s request, but was also supposed to be married in less than a month… HOW?! And no one questioned it, everyone just accepted they were in love, ok…
The timelines were also kinda wonky. And stuff seemed to happen out of order or something. Like they were supposed to get married after the bday party, but the party didn’t happen. October wanted to go out, but there wasn’t an elaborate party. Then stuff happens I guess the day after the wedding? She says Key’s bday is NYE, but they celebrate it I guess on Christmas Day? Once again, supposed to be an elaborate party at a venue, but then they’re just in the living room, cake comes from the kitchen, and then everyone goes to bed…
People are mentioned, but never named or told a back story… What happened to the people that came to her club and house? Why was Capri so relevant, and causing all that drama just to say nvm, I lost?! And why did he even go meet her for closure at the time he did; it seemed random and the way she conceded didn’t even match how she’d been acting! Then the fam he’s never met, pulls up on him on NYE, tells him he has to choose (what I have no idea), by the end of the year… So in like a few hours?! Lol what?!
I kept thinking it was gonna make sense, but it was kinda all over the place… And usually with a cliffhanger I’m like OMGeez!!!! but this time I was like bro, what?! I was just confused…
I wanted to like this one more because arranged marriage is one of my favorite tropes, but this one did not land for me
Onyx is written as a quiet, calculated leader, but he came across flat and detached. I kept waiting for something to pull me in, and it never happened
Quorra had the kind of backstory that should have made me root for her, but I struggled to believe her connection to Onyx. The relationship felt more about him being “safe” than something real and developing
I needed more depth, more emotion, and more moments that made the relationship feel believable
Overall, this one just did not hold my attention the way I wanted it to. (2.5/5)
Now I'm on the edge of my seat with intrigued anticipation of what's to come. Who are these people and what do they really want with Onyx? Why now? Why was his parents really murked? Will they hurt Q and Key? So many questions now and I can't wait to get the answers to them.💚💚
Oh my I wonder what all this mean! Im so happy that Onyx an her really fell in love makes it so much better. Capri was a whole mess she got the pic to stop messing with him. I love how the family was lets see what happens next. Granddad o was a man with little to know words. Lol
This was a great read. They both lost slot both lost parents to the streets. I loved how they just let it flow they didn't force anything. Now I have unanswered questions like what exactly happened to tyris and what do his mother side of the family want. Baby who is the other snakes. I can't wait until part 2
What is going on who are these people and what are they up to? And what happen to the so called boyfriend after he caused his family to almost lose everything her family left her. October needs a man and one of the family members is the one talking to much because they want the power.Hope it's not October since the granddad won't let her sit at the head of the table.
Now you know you ain’t have to end this book like this…literally got me sitting half off the bed cuz what is that ending??? Ughhhh another CLIFFHANGER….I still enjoyed this VERY MUCH!!!
I started this because I saw the finale was released. But the book is inconsistent and for me a little confusing. I felt like I missed whole dialogues. Some parts had a ton of detail while others didn’t and it was needed.
This first installment has me holding my breath for more, haven’t read an urban novel with such depth in a long time. I can’t wait for the next book, I will be recommending this one to all my fellow readers. Please, don’t disappoint me.
A cliffhanger!!!!!! 😫😫😫 Why is his mom side just now coming out? Who in is circle is betraying him? Where is no good baby daddy? So many questions!!! I really hope the twins aren’t betraying him
