Bruce Ramsay presents a fascinating account of the building of a company town from nothing into a thriving town connected to a state- of- the- art paper mill located in coastal British Columbia near the turn of the twentieth century. At its peak, around two thousand people lived in the valley called Ocean Falls. A very positive and energetic society developed in this remote area and thrived until it became clear after 75 years that the machinery was becoming out-dated and the operation was no longer profitable. The decision to close the plant brought an end to the happy community. Almost all the homes and businesses and community buildings have been torn down and mill and it's related buildings were either auctioned off or scrapped. The book includes many photographs that show important milestones in its history that give life to the chronicle of the "Rain People."
