Clara was born with a veil, and the ability to see into the future. This much she knows. What she doesn’t know is what other gifts will be revealed when she turns eighteen in a few months. While her grandmother has been diligent in her efforts to prepare her for the inevitable changes to come, Clara can focus on precious little besides the devilishly handsome man she met at her coming out ball. Secure in the knowledge that she has a bright future ahead of her, the future Clara discovers is one that she could never have conjured in her wildest dreams.

Cliffhanger

Well written, engaging story, decent plot, but an unsatisfactory and abrupt ending. I have vowed never to buy a book from authors who use this plot, no matter how good the book is. So if you want to have to pay for this story piecemeal, don't say I didn't warn you!

I wish I knew that this book was R rated...sorry too much touching then sex for me. And this is a young adult book. It is soft porn and I usually read reviews to try to avoid these kind of books. So I wrote this one so others will know!

I was only going to give this book four stars but another reviewer piss me off. First of all, you said the book was good, you liked everything but because the book ended on a cliffhanger you gave it 1 star.

First if all the book was much longer than a bunch of novellas these days. The writing and story WAS good. This author entertained you with a story that you thoroughly enjoyed but you rate her 1 star, how fair is that? The cliff hanger in this book was not that even big of a deal. She stopped the story in a good place and even had more of it in the sample of book two which can be found at the end of book one.

Some people don't have an ounce of common sense!!! Now this book was a 3.5 read for me. I always round up when there is a .5, and because of the silly unfair one star rating I bumped it up. The reason why I originally gave it only 3.5 is because I wouldn't mind if the book was a ménage and all parties agreed or something, otherwise this was just, This is an interesting story in parts. Other parts drag a little but it does not take away from the story. I am curious to learn what happens with Will.

I mean ... wonderful.... I have no idea if in another point in my life i would have liked or disliked the book, but i am glad I did it at this point. Funny thing is that I wanted to read this book before but i just couldn't so i left it aside. Now I love it and i am glad that this is my goodreads 100th book.

i have thought for a long time that i was born in the wrong decade and it is so simple to not appreciate what we take for granted. In this story you can feel the excitement of new things, I don't have enough words to describe it. I just loved it.

5 Stars

This book is going to be so difficult to review without spoilers, which I never like to give.
Clara is adorable, handling the responsibility of her gifts with maturity beyond her years. If I can give a half-spoiler, her innocence in 1861 Trinidad is magnified in modern times. One cannot help but fall deeply in love with her. There are a few typos in the book but that would never detract from the 5 stars that it deserves. I would love one day to see this turned into a movie.

I'd rate this book at 3.5 stars. The writing was severely lacking. Things were not explained clearly and there were parts that were contradictory to each other. At first it was explained like the seventh daughter of a seventh daughter in this one family line would have these special gifts. Then later it explains that since she has these gifts she is unable to have children. I had to sit and figure out that it meant in the whole world. It also never explained how if it is only daughters how does Doc have the gifts?? The fact that Clara has SO many random gifts was a little difficult to accept as well. There were just many unclear parts. I did however, really love the story. It's a very entertaining read and even though it was left in SOME WHAT of a cliffhanger I wasn't disappointed with the ending. It was unexpected even if extremely odd. I like that time travel is about her being in the past and going to the future/present time. Most time travel I read is about traveling to the past which has been getting a little stale. So if you like time travel historical romance and can get past the writing and grammar mistakes I do recommend this book. I am already reading the second book and enjoying it. The writing has improved some.

Clara has special gifts, that she sees as a curse. In her time she has her eye on one man. Someone she doesn’t know if he will except her gifts and all. When a friend of her dies while giving birth she does the only thing can. She time travels.

It’s now 2014 and modern times will help her friend. They meet Travis along the way Clara’s heart is torn between him and Will. What is a lady to do who is from the late 1800’s now thrown into the 21st century?

I love a good historical romance and liked that this story took you to the future. I’ve mainly read stories that took you to the past not the future, but in all of them the women have to adjust. I liked the way the story was woven together.

Clara was loyal and strong. Though she was out of her depth in the future she still did what she needed to do. My only real complaint is that it is a cliff hanger. I think these authors are conspiring against me.

Clark's Song is wonderful

I have read lots of time travel books, and loved most of them. This book is one of my favorites. I enjoyed the twist of an immoral, special healing powers and the sweet way Clara comes across. I did think when she time travelled she appeared to be older than 18 with how she acted. This book keeps you wondering and wanting. I found myself willing her to get back to Will, than wanting her to stay with Travis. The writing pulled me right into the story with the players. Going now to get the second d book. Recommend this book to all.

Cheap shot cliffhanger

I won't go into what I think of this author's writing abilities, or the story's plot, or anything else about this novel...except to say I absolutely abhor an undisclosed cliffhanger! I refuse to read anything else in this series or anything written by her or any author who willingly and conivingly sneaks in cliffhangers without forewarning.

I speed-read this book so I knew how the plot would twist and end, and it wasn't wort even that time.
The idea is good, however in need of serious development, KM should have consulted some such editor, and then it could be even a best seller. I'm not going to be that person, however, a few points...
- unnecessary character description at the start
- starts like a historical novel instead of fantasy, esp instead of time travel
- Will can't make up his mind and his decisions are not founded
- lots of descriptions of stuff we know (like french fries)
- plot focus is all wrong, it should have concentrated on the time travel plot, not the protagonist gifts or the romantic interest with Will
- Travis's behaviour is not credible (you can't land unknown, then be swept up by a handsome and skilful doctor to such extent that he takes you shopping, out to dine, and invites you to his home)
- world building is lacking, too many contradictions (esp. getting medical treatment without documents and insurance, XD)...
I could go on but no need, really.

Mixed gifts.

Clara is the 7th daughter of a 7th daughter and has ‘gifts’ that she doesn’t yet control properly. Unfortunately, they can cause problems when she loses her temper! Luckily, she is only a few months off her 18th birthday which is when she should gain control. We open with her about to attend the Year’s Debutant Ball. She has a beautiful dress made by the women in her ‘family’ and, with her strawberry blonde hair and hourglass figure, she is the standout belle of the ball. Will Willoughby, the nephew of the owner of the most successful shipping company in Charleston, is bowled over by her beauty and she by this handsome young man. But Fate doesn’t make things smooth for them in part because one of Clara’s gifts is time travelling.
A very different story to most that you’ll pick up but it certainly pulls you in.

Fun story

A fun time travel love story that spans the 1860s to modern day. Many funny events and love on both sides of time. What was completely distracting, however, was the lack of attention to proper grammar and punctuation. This took a potentially riveting story and made it merely a distracting tale. I highly encourage the author to get a proper editor and pick through the nits of grammar and punctuation.

The 7th daughter of the 7th daughter....Clara can see into the future and she can help with healing. Clara, in the days just prior to the Civil War, goes forward in time by 150 years so that she can help save a friend who is miscarrying.

Good story, distracting errors

I enjoyed most of the story. I feel that the main character lost too much of who she is at the end just to meet certain criteria of a romance story, so that lost me. The cliff hanger does make me want to read more, though.

Clara Mae Jordan was special, able to heal people and talk to ghosts amongst other "gifts". She lives in dangerous times of the American Civil War to have such abilities. This is her story of coming of age mixed in with a bit of time travel.

Could not put this book down

I have read this book a couple of years back and decided to pick it back up. I’ve re-read it as often as I could in less than a week (mind you, I work 40+ hours a week and am in my final semester for my Bachelors degree, also full time).

Read this review and more at Classy Cat Books.Review:

I have to qualify this by stating that I don't normally read romance books --- pure romance generally just doesn't do much for me. So it's pretty meaningful that I actually sat down and read this book in one day. It had just enough fantasy in it to draw me in. Oh, and Margo treated us to a bit of time-travel, which I will pretty much never have a problem with.

There's a heavy dose of things I don't normally like: there's some insta-love, there's a love triangle, and there's some "Oh, my life sucks" stuff going on from Clara. These things are all handled a bit differently than I'm used to, so I waited them out happily enough.

The insta-love, for instance, wasn't entirely instant --- it developed, and there was even some significant amount of hate as part of the development. But it was still pretty damn quick.
The love triangle is ... well, I think I'd need to read the second book before commenting too much on it. For once I actually like the second guy to come into the picture more. And it's a love triangle 153 years apart, and the relationship with guy numero dos develops so gradually that it was actually kind of sweet more than annoying.
And Clara's "Oh, my life sucks" bits at the beginning were, quite frankly, pretty well founded. And it wasn't like she complained all that much --- less than most of the books I've read in this genre

And I'm intrigued by the role of magic in this world. The time-travel bit was incredibly entertaining, especially when Travis talks Clara into seeing a gynecologist for a proper exam. Tee hee. I will say that some of her "Wow, this is so different!" reactions seemed to come in the wrong order. It's not until after a few days in modern 2014 that she comments on the state of the bathrooms, for example.

Overall, a very enjoyable read :)

PS --- I love the cover of this one!

Excerpt:

Chapter One

Charleston, SC

August, 1861
By midnight at Hibernian Hall Clara had danced six dances. Joseph Gibbs had tripped on the hem of her skirt, bless his heart, and ended up on his knees as if seeking divine intervention for just one night of social grace. Leland Montague had simply atrocious breath; evidently he had an unseen rotting tooth, making her continuously look the other way for a breath of fresh air. Walter Wragg didn’t speak a word during the entire dance, blushing profusely when she so much as looked him directly in the eye. Albert Tradd held her entirely too close, causing her father to intervene and have a few choice words with the young dandy on the balcony. Ashby Calhoun, her last dance partner, had bragged incessantly of his family’s wealth, his travels abroad, and what a great catch he would be for any of Charleston’s Southern belles.

Her coming out ball certainly was not turning out as planned.

Clara shuddered at the mere thought of being trapped in a loveless marriage with the offerings thus far. Spinsterhood had never looked more tempting.

1st of a series, so doesn't have the happy ending you want. Writing is terrible, but you finally start to get invested in the characters about 60% in. Not that they're more dimensional. LOTS of referenced back story. I'm guessing there's a prequel series, but if not, then the writing is even worse. Will not be continuing the series and do not recommend.
