I suppose it was decent for what it was.

In this volume, we finished up multiple smaller arcs. They were resolved in ways that I expected them to because of previous conclusions in the story. I don’t particularly think I loved anything. My favorite part of this volume was the card game, which was meant to be a lighter chapter, and also the ending chapter because we learned more and we got introduced to a new division, as you know. This adds additional questions about the plot and the things that we know so far.

I’ve said this in reviews for multiple volumes but sometimes certain important scenes regarding Akira do not feel as strong for me personally. It is just the tone of the series I’ve accepted at this point, but sometimes Akira’s explanations and actions do not feel as solidified as they could. The main problem is it just leans a little too shonen tropey for me. But a lot of aspects of the series are tropey and it knows it. Yet again there were also a few more comedic humoring scenes that I didn’t love, but I’ve said before that I don’t tend to love them, but I’m still continuing the series anyway so honestly it’s my problem. If that is more your jam, you’ll probably be more into it than me in those moments.

But the point is, I’m still invested in the series. I am into it now, although I did feel like this volume felt like a filler. There wasn’t a lot of new information given to us and the scenes that seem to most likely come back into the plot were lighter and not that dense. I like when we get serious and I start to feel the stakes regarding certain missions and regarding the organization itself, I’ve said that before. Although the information that we were given, especially at the end of the volume, I am noticing is reflecting the things we have learned in the past two volumes, so I am hoping that as we continue to move forward, we start to merge the things we have been building to. Since the series so far does like to tell the story in smaller arcs, I am expecting that we are going to build to larger arcs, and things are going to start to intertwine that get more serious regarding everything so far. In my mind, that’s the main way it makes sense for it to continue eventually. And I hope we start to get there soon because I am not the biggest fan of things not connecting as solidly right now. I also noticed we had multiple scenes of recapping in this volume, and I did feel like they made sense in the instances that they were presented, but sometimes the story recaps a lot and as someone who is following along, I feel like I don’t need it as much so sometimes it’s annoying page space. But like I said, I do think it made sense in this volume, but maybe not as much explanation.

Regarding the themes, we did see the similar things that we have seen far we see the instances with Akira and the way that he wants to help people and the way that he views life in the differences between aliens and humans and all the similar things that we’ve seen so far so none of that was unexpected. The characters are behaving the way I expect them to. I did like the scenes that we had with Sho and Akira I do like their partnership together. I thought that the art style was fine. I’m used to it and I don’t mind it. I don’t have anything bad to really say about it.
