A really pleasant surprise!

I rarely read contemporary romance, but I love a mystery and this novel did not disappoint!
Josh and Novah are both very relatable characters. They both have backstories that help feed the mystery and make the resolution so much more satisfying than it would have been without knowing those stories.
The spice level was a bit more red hot than I usually read, but it in no way detracted from the story.
I definitely recommend this one!

Slow-Burn Mysterious Romance

Author Rhea Morrigan did it again! She wrote a slow-burn romance including a few other stories intertwined. She excels in detail, and lots of it, so senses consume her readers. I loved the story of Novah, a headstrong writer, and Josh, a misunderstood potter, who come together to uncover love, the backstory of a little boy, and another twist. This is a must-read for the slow-burn romantic at heart who loves mystery.

It was like an enemies to lovers, but not really. Did they really have a reason to be enemies? A kid from long ago, hated that one family particularly seemed like they had it all, so on a stormy night, he wanted to take it all from them. When he found out, that the son survived, he watched him for the next 20years. Becoming completely deranged in wanting revenge for something that the couple didn’t even know existed.

Town gossip is just what it is gossip, if you haven’t see or heard it with your own eyes/ears, I would believe it’s true or tell everyone else about it.

Reserved Indefinitely surprised me with how much it has going on beyond the romance. On the surface, it has the familiar ingredients of a small-town love story: two neighbours who would rather argue than admit they are attracted to each other, plenty of local gossip, and a relationship that takes its time. But the story gradually reveals a more intriguing layer involving Josh's troubled past, the fire at his pottery studio, and questions that have been left unanswered for years.
What worked particularly well for me was the way the mystery and romance influence each other rather than feeling like two separate plots. Learning more about Josh changes the way we understand his behaviour, while Noah's curiosity is not simply a device to move the mystery forward. It is an important part of who she is, and eventually puts her in situations where emotional boundaries become complicated.
The supporting cast and small-town atmosphere also give the story a sense of community without making everything feel too polished or predictable. I especially liked that both protagonists come with baggage and flaws instead of being conveniently perfect for each other.
The romance is definitely steamy, so readers looking for a very mild contemporary romance should keep that in mind. For me, though, the combination of slow-building attraction, buried secrets, and emotional vulnerability made this much more interesting than a straightforward neighbours-to-lovers story.
A satisfying read for anyone who enjoys romance with a genuine mystery woven through it.
