Daughters of Portraits of Unsung Women Mystics chronicles the lives of five awakened women who walked the mystic path across three centuries of India’s history. Daughters of Meerabai - Portraits of Unsung Women Mystics by Namrata Chaturvedi speaks about 5 among many unacknowledged women of our land. This is a documentary of the life they lived, the Tapasya they did and the effect they had on the people of India.
To be honest I hadn't found many books with this level of detailed information of women mystics or yoginis of India. So it was refreshing and enlightening to read. I will rate this one 3.9/5 stars.
I picked up Daughters of Meerabai expecting a spiritual read, but it turned out to be much more grounded and relatable than I thought. The book shares the stories of five women from different walks of life and the choices they made when life pushed them into difficult corners.
What I appreciated most was that the author doesn’t glorify their struggles or try to draw dramatic conclusions. The stories are told simply, with honesty, and let you form your own takeaways. Each chapter feels distinct, yet there’s a clear thread of faith, resilience, and self-belief running through all of them.
It’s not a fast-paced book, but it’s thoughtful and reflective. I’d recommend it to readers who enjoy real-life stories, biographies, or books about personal journeys and inner strength.
This book offers profound insight into deeply spiritual women mystics whose lives and wisdom often remain unknown. It beautifully brings forward the voices of forgotten women seekers and preserves their devotion, knowledge, and inner strength. I truly loved reading this book. It felt meaningful to discover the lives of many lost mystics — women whose names and writings have faded with time. Learning about them was both moving and enriching. The writing carries a contemplative rhythm that invites reflection rather than rushes the reader.
For anyone who wishes to understand spiritual women seekers and their legacy, this is a wonderful and heartfelt read. The cover is beautiful, and the content within feels just as soulful.
