Kate Delaney was still a great lead character to root for in this sequel that continued to have the same strong sense of place as the first book. The bracing, beautiful High Country was heaven to Kate even in the depths of winter. Like my namesake, I too am surrounded by the Australian bush where I live and I too like to take off into the bush to clear my head, no matter the weather, hardly seeing a soul, reminding me like my namesake there is more to life. The author's geographical and weather details throughout the story greatly enhanced the story. The unanswered questions from the first book surrounding the mystery of Kate's family continued to drive the narrative forward to reach a satisfying conclusion.
Basically a complete retelling of the first book…. Right down to the same mistakes the main character makes at the same point in the book…. It’s a shame.. I enjoyed the first book…. Hopefully if there is a third the author will come up with something different.
