Saving Serendipity

Rate this book
I never imagined I’d be back here. Home. In Cedar Hill. The only one left to raise my sister’s children.

But after a drunk driver robs them of both parents, I know I’ll do whatever it takes to keep them in their family home and secure their future at Serendipity Ranch. Even if it means being bound to the one person I’ve wanted to be rid of…now the only one I have left.

Jovi Daniels.

My brother-in-law’s best friend, the bane of my existence and the man they chose to run their family ranch.
Jovi and I have moved like two opposing forces caught in the same orbit for over a decade. Choosing to travel the same path and work toward the same goal goes against every instinct I’ve ever had when it comes to him.

As long as I’ve known the man, he’s been reckless, arrogant and on a mission to self-destruct. I would know. I’ve seen the broken bones firsthand.

Choosing us to save their legacy and secure their children’s future may be the worst mistake my sister and her husband ever made. Jovi and I are both stubborn and used to getting our way. And our only means of communication is exchanging insults.

But we share one other trait. One I know Trent and Lena were counting on.

We both show up for the people we love. Always. Without fail. No matter what.

I just never expected Jovi to show up for me.

insta-family done right

Do you remember the movie Life As We Know It with Katherine Heigl and Josh Duhamel? This book is a similar premise - a couple with young children die in a car accident and leave the kids to her sister, Liz, and the farm & horse business to his best friend, Jovi. They all grew up together and there’s some serious enemies-to-lovers plot that follows. This book doesn’t delve deep into the emotional healing journey of the children, but instead shows a found family that supports each other and finds a new normal with a lot of maturity. Jovi is a good man - I don’t care what misgivings Liz is carrying over from their childhood. No spice, just clean romance. I really enjoyed this book and would read the next book in the series. One more read through with an editor would be beneficial, but the errors are minimal. Would recommend.

Saving Serendipity by Chelsea Colt is an emotional and compelling story about family, self-doubt, and personal growth. The novel follows a woman who is unexpectedly thrust into the role of caregiver for her sister’s children alongside her brother-in-law’s best friend. As she navigates this new responsibility, she wrestles with deep-rooted feelings of inadequacy and unresolved abandonment issues stemming from her own mother.

One of the most powerful aspects of the book is her internal struggle—questioning whether she’s capable of giving these children the stability and love they need, while fearing she might repeat the same mistakes she experienced growing up. Watching her character evolve and grow into her role is both heartfelt and rewarding.

The twist at the end involving her mother adds an extra layer of depth to the story, and Javi’s love and support bring warmth and balance to the narrative.

While I did notice a few typos throughout the book, they didn’t take away from the overall reading experience. The storyline remains clear, engaging, and easy to follow despite those minor issues.

Overall, this is a touching and meaningful read that highlights resilience, healing, and the true meaning of family.

I don't really have anything to say about the book, except for the fact that it was NOT enemies-to-lovers. I don't know why literally every random-ass book is publicized as enemies-to-lovers, just because. It's like people won't read it unless it has the hate-to-love. SURE it is a fan favourite, but DON'T FUCKING LIE TO ME.

It was a dislike at best. The MMC had already been in love with her since the start. I honestly found it a bit boring. It did not have any element that I was really looking forward to. It was just... going. I don't hate it, but I don't love it either. It was, in one word, eh.

I really loved the cover ,though.

Beautiful story. Author is new to me . I love that she so accurately portrayed grief in this book without letting it overwhelm the entire story. Because it felt real -- that kind of grief permeates life, but life also moves on, especially when there's children. The children were also written realistically.

I'm hoping this is a series, seems set up to be a series. But I don't see any other books listed under this author on this app and no future titles or works in progress on author's IG account.

If it is a series, I hope we get a story about Holly! She is a great best friend even if we didn't learn much about her personal life.

Jovi & Liz

Amazing. Emotional. The heartbreak that comes with loss is so hard to get through. This book shows you that you don't really get through it. You live it daily and make new routines to make the heartbreak just a little easier as each day, week or year passes. I love these characters and the storyline. My heart hurt so bad for this family. The twist was so amazing. I couldn't put it down. Definitely recommend this read but with a box of Kleenex on hand, you are gonna need them. I cried sad tears and happy tears. I laughed at the banter and cried at the loss.

It was a really good read, I loved their banter and how they still took care of each other irregardless of their issues. However, the enemies bit went on for too long and it didn't give enough time for me to enjoy the lovers stage. I also didn't like the mum's reveal. It's strange that there was no rumor about it because for sure, some parents must have spoken about it within hearing of their children while the children talk about it in school. Liz also got over it too quickly for me, given how her mum's absence really shaped her life.

4.5. 📸🐎

"You've been the constant in each other's lives from the moment your paths collided. You fought it, sure, but at the heart of everything, you've always shown up for each other. You've seen each other. Been honest with one another. Been your truest selves in the presence of the other. What do you think love is, Jovi, if not that?"

I can’t read this less than five stars because it was a really good book.

I’m a sucker for intense themes romance, and this was the perfect combination.

It was a really smooth writing, but at the same time so deep and heavy because of the loss and grieve. The characters development and relationship was so nice and you could really see how they were open up to each other and trusting and falling in love. I’m not kidding, it was really good.

Books like the is are my favorite… one where I stumble across it and end up loving it so much! I fell so hard for Liz, Jovi, Remmi, and Gavin and company! This was so good and so heartwarming but also gut wrenching. I was laughing, crying, and falling so much in love. I can’t wait to read more of this series!!

This was an easy, heartwarming book I gobbled up in 2 days. It’s a stand alone, clean love story, but personally I’m hoping she continues the series. It’s sweet, and loving, and hopeful, and avoids all the romance tropes of the moment.

Great story line

I enjoyed the book. Characters are well written. I enjoyed the evolution of the relationships.
The grammar mistakes though, are frustrating.

Heartwarming story of two people’s journey of love, strength and finding each other yet realizing they never lost each other. No spice but good read.
