Middle aged accountant Graham lives a life of social anxiety, loneliness, and failed relationships. One day while out buying a box of wine at the store, Graham meets the beautiful Stacey, the woman of his dreams, in the produce aisle. Graham falls hook, line and sinker, but Stacey harbours a dark secret…one which involves an insatiable and horrific appetite for sex, and food.
I have read several books from Warren Barns, and also his brother Crowley, and they are always a lot of fun. In this book, Warren makes the reader feel all kinds of emotions…horror, dread, fear, and nausea, as well as a little heartbroken for Graham, who just wants to be loved. There’s also a juicy little twist at the end, which was the perfect cherry on the top.
I was invited to read this ARC from Warren Barns via Booksprout, with which I leave a voluntary review.
Graham is a down on his luck middle aged accountant with no real friends or social life. His mother has never been a loving mother & now in a care facility suffering from dementia. He occasional catches up with his 'friend' Simon to hear about his latest conquest. Mostly goes home to beat off in his messy home. Until a chance encounter with the beautiful redhead Stacy at the grocery store changes everything. After a few dates Graham goes to Stacy's place for dinner. It's the start of a dark twisted love.
I usually love anything by the The Barns Brothers & was so excited for a new release. But I struggled with this.
I had no problem with the subject matter. I actually loved the twist it was a female feeder & male eater. But I started to get bored by all the mentions of Graham masturbating or getting a hard on. Then by all the mentions of Stacy riding Graham. It's a personal thing with the any book I read, there can be a thing as too much. I wish some of these moments had been cut & we got more of the twisted story. This is such an interest subject for some gory body horror.
My favourite moment was the scene in the cabin. This had me almost gagging. This is the twisted horror that I love from Warren & Crowley. I wish had been more of this throughout the story. This will definitely having you put the snacks down.
A great interest read & can't wait for the next horrific story.
Thank you to Warren Barns & Booksprout for the ARC, all thoughts & opinions are my own.
This is a brilliant read of a lonely man whom thinks he has found someone special. Is it too good to be true? Does he think he can be so lucky to of finally found someone to love? She certainly is interested as she is flirting with him. Will things work out for him? A twisted love with some amazing characters. Nicely paced and easy to read. Definitely recommend!
