You can’t outrun your past, but maybe you can rewrite your future.Austin Hart is back in Chicago—sober, in therapy, and doing his best to rebuild his life. Between helping his mom with his little half-sister and coaching at his stepdad’s hockey program, he’s trying to find his footing. But when his health insurance runs out and he needs a lifeline to keep his sobriety on track, he’s desperate enough to consider something crazy.
Charlotte “Charlie” Sinclair is done with her high-society southern family and the endless pressure to settle down. She’s finally found her own way, teaching kindergarten in a new city, far from the expectations that nearly suffocated her. When she meets Austin picking up his stepsister, she sees a man trying his best, and when he asks her to marry him so he can keep his health insurance, it feels like a solution to both their problems.
Austin’s not new to impulsive decisions—this isn’t his first spontaneous marriage—but this time, things feel different. Charlie helps him believe he’s more than his past, while Austin shows her she’s worthy of love just the way she is. But when he crosses paths with a child he never knew existed—someone who instantly changes everything—Austin is forced to confront his past and decide if he can keep moving forward without losing himself…or Charlie.
This is a story about learning to forgive yourself, and discovering that sometimes redemption isn’t about fixing the past, but building a future.
Your Only Redemption is book five in the Ravens hockey series. It is marriage of convenience, grumpy x sunshine, redemption arc
I like to believe that Vee wrote this with me in mind because THISSSS is what I mean when I say I want ✨emotional intimacy✨!!!!!!
Ever since reading book #3 in this series, I’ve been dying for Austin’s story. Heck, ever since book #1 where were first introduced to him. Over the course of this series, he has changed and struggled and grown so much and all I wanted was his HEA 🩷
While technically you can read this as a standalone, I highly recommend reading at least book #3 first, which is the first real look at Austin Hart. I also loved books #1 and #2, so you can of course start there as well 📖✨ while I did struggle with book #4, I do think it plays a really important role in Austin’s overarching story and if you truly want the full picture, you should reaching #3, #4, and #5 in order.
5⭐️ 3.5🌶️ - marriage of convenience - benefits to lovers - roommates - found family - hockey romance
~ please check triggers and protect your peace! ~ an abundance of emotional intimacy (but also some hot physical intimacy) ~ 10/10 communication ~ vulnerability from both characters ~ the mirror scene >>>> iykyk
Austin's journey towards sobriety and bettering himself for him, not Nova or anyone was such a long journey but Charlie helped him so much. Reading previous books, we know how Austin ended up here, working on himself and doing so well but he still felt unsure if his true worth. Charlie changed that, she saw him, the man that fought tooth and nail to enter himself. She truly saw the best in him and supported him. Austin did the same for her, she was trying to get away from her controlling mom and Austin showed her all the best things about herself. Together they grew as individuals and as a couple.
I got to enjoy another great ARC read. These characters are well written that you root for them even through their faults. Hard topics of addiction and body shaming are discussed in caring and informative way. Though I wish we saw more of a friendship journey in their story, I loved that we got to see Austin earn trust in himself and learned to be a good partner to Charlie as well. I really liked that it seemed both were getting positive support and growth from the other.
“One leaf at a time.”
This is my favorite analogy and helps give perspective that helps with healing.
I'm back with book 5 of the Ravens Hockey series and having loved the rest of the series so far, I couldn't miss out on Austin's redemption story.
Sorry spoilers, but this book once again follows on directly from book 4 and relates back a lot to book 3 in the series, so I definitely think this should be read in order so that you can really understand and follow the character progression throughout this story.
Saying that, I definitely can't say too much about the content of this storyline - but we follow Austin as he finally comes home and finds his safe space - with the wonderful Charlie.
This was such a heart-wrenching read especially having followed Austin through his trauma so far, so all the emotions were flowing through this one.
Charlie came with her own insecurities and having met her briefly in the last book, it was really lovely to get to fully know her here and see just how the relationship between her and Austin developed.
I still have a few issues with the timelines in this book and feel that things happen at an astounded pace - I definitely had to suspend belief for certain elements.
I also really didn't love the initial reasoning for Austin's proposal - which came across like he had learned nothing at all.
But!
I still really loved seeing how things came together gradually and Austin and Charlie worked through their individual issues together, finding an amazing bond together to tackle everything that came their way in the end.
This was such a great way to finish Austin and Nova's stories - but given we already know who we'll be seeing in book 6, I'm sure we'll be seeing some more of these characters too.
I'm already looking forward to seeing how this series ends and can't wait to see how Luna works things out in the next book - I think it's going to be even spicier than the others.....
Your Only Redemption brings us to Austin AFTER he's completed rehab. If you read Austin and Nova's story then you'll understand why he was in rehab but if you haven't Vee does an excellent job of showcasing throughout the book why Austin was there, where he is in his recovery and the continued steps he is taking to stay sober.
I will say that having been in a relationship with an addict and having a parent who is an addict... this book hits harder than normal. I took breaks in between reading and honestly, this book is so well written. I give all the flowers to Vee for completing Austin's story because not everyone who has an addiction gets a happy ending.
Sometimes choosing yourself over an addict (like Nova did) is much harder than people realize. I loved how Nova and Austin got closure.. more so for Nova.
Now onto Charlotte (Charlie) she has moved to Chicago to get away from her mother.. shock! Her mom hasn't always been the nicest to Charlie and Charlie wants a fresh start in a new area. She is a school teacher and her co-workers are an absolute delight! She has found her footing and she is also healing but in a different way.
I will say at some points I was frustrated with both of our main characters but then I had to remember they're going to make mistakes just like you and I do.
Your Only Redemption is messy, vulnerable, and deep. The love that Austin and Charlie share is on a concrete level. The foundation is so important for both of these characters and I enjoyed this book so much. It's going to make you FEEL.
Thank you to the author for an advance reader copy in exchange for an honest review.
"You’re the kind of love that makes life feel like poetry, Charlie"
This line broke me. Their love is so pure and warm and I cannot stop crying, this ending is so perfect and everyone deserved it so so so much. I was so scared things would get a little messy for Austin and Charlie at first but they got through everything together and seeing Austin being so open to Charlie without her even asking was amazing. Also reading that Austin tried to OD broke me and I had to put it down for a while because the thought of him being gone like that broke my heart but I'm so glad he's okay and he found Charlie.
Also, Austin finally talking to his mom and Ledger properly about everything? I cried so much and especially in the last chapter where Ledger called him son? I CRIED SO HARD and I still am. I was so scared that maybe he'd never get closure from his mom and Ledger but ❤️🩹 Seeing the reunion with Nova and finally reading Austin's pov after finding out he had a daughter was what I needed because seeing him spiral and make mistakes is exactly what I expected because there is no way he'd be calm and composed right away. I love all of them so much and I am so glad both Nova and Austin got their happy ending.
My review is all over the place but it's just because I love this book so dearly and have moments flashing everytime I write something new lol. Thank you to Vee Taylor once again for an amazing opportunity to read about them. Thank you for writing such a deep and personal story. Thank you for bringing these characters to life. Can't wait for Luna, Dirks, and Jeremy. It'll be messy and will make me cry but it'll be amazing.

Wow, absolutely what I need to read. Austin and Charlie, have to be my favorite. I don’t think I can write a proper review without spoilers but I’ll try to just give a small summary lol. This book follows Austin after his time in rehab and him coming back to Chicago and continuing his sobriety. Unfortunately he aged out of his mom’s insurance so he needs to find a way to get coverage to afford his therapy and meds, enters Charlie who happens to be a teacher at the school Evie, Austin’s sister attends. Who doesn’t love a good marriage of convenience trope. A few months later Austin finds out he has a 4 year old daughter. This book was the perfect ending for both Austin and Nova, we see each of them getting their happy ending which they both very much deserved, they both went through a lot together and individually and the fact that they are coparenting and all became a blended family showing how they finally found their person. I cried lots of tears reading this book but that’s nothing new considering Vee loves to make me cry lol
Thank you to author Vee Taylor for allowing me to be part of her ARC team!

First I want to thank Vee Taylor for the opportunity to read an early access! I've loved the whole series and recommend starting from the beginning even though these are technically 'standalone' who doesnt want to know the ins and outs of all the side characters?
Austin Hart has had my heart since book 3, I was glad he was getting his chance at a HEA. After struggling with his sobriety Austin still didn't feel worthy of all the good things in life. Until he finally came home and found safety with Charlie.
Charlie was briefly introduced in book 4 and I'm so glad we got a chance to see more of her, she struggles with her own insecurities. The emotional intimacy between both characters was so lovely, watching the way their relationship helps them grow as individuals aswell a couple was amazing.
please check all trigger warnings as some subjects can be quite heavy and hit hard if you've experienced similar
I've loved the Ravens Hockey Series by Vee Taylor, and the next book is now released!
Heres what I thought about it.... 5/5⭐️
Your only Redemption follows Austin and Charlie's story. It was so good to see Austin in a better place from where the last book left off. Heartbreak and addiction has changed his life and now he has to learn to live like a normal average guy.
Youll never believe what Austin gets up to in this trail of the series. From where 'Your Second Chance' leaves off, we know theres a surprise when Nova shows up out of the blue. Tangled emotions, a surprise child and so much growth.
Your Only Redemption was absolutely everything. This is the third book in a row these characters have made me cry. Austin 🥺🥺 My sweet little human. He really grew on me in this one. I loved seeing him grow and heal. Charlie was just right for him. The way they were vulnerable with each other was beautiful. I loved watching them heal together. This was just so angsty and tender and my heart is feeling all the feels.
This book was what I needed to close out Nova and Austins story. I'm so happy they both got their HEA. Charlie was the perfect fit for him. Austin as come a long way in his recovery. It takes a strong person to stick with being sober and recovery.
🖤ARC review of Your Only Redemption by Vee Taylor🖤 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🌶️🌶️🌶️
THANK YOU Vee for allowing me to ARC read for you again.
Your Only Redemption is book # 5 in the Ravens Hockey Series. I’d highly recommend reading book 3 & 4 as all three books follow the story of Austin and Nova.
Tropes: Retired hockey player x kindergarten teacher Grumpy x sunshine Marriage of convenience Friends with benefits to lovers Forced proximity Addiction recovery
First off, based on the Austin we met back in book 3 ( Your Biggest Downfall), I was coming into this already thinking he’d have a lot of making up to do to get me to even consider liking him. I was an emotional wreck to say the least lol. Book 4 ( Your Second Chance) we got to see things from the perspective of Nova. Getting a teaser of things to come, I was beginning to warm up to this new version of Austin. I just knew that Vee would not disappoint when it came to Austin redeeming himself, and I was right. Your Only Redemption was absolute perfection.
The book starts off with Austin years after completing addiction recovery and sober living in California. With the encouragement of his mom and step father, he decides to move back home to Chicago to help out with his little sister and coach a kids hockey program. Unfortunately, since turning 26, he can no longer stay on his mother’s insurance policy and is forced to find a way to afford his necessary ongoing medical care.
This is where we meet our new FMC Charlie. Charlie is new to the city, trying to find her own way as a kindergarten teacher, as far away from her Mother’s high society expectations. She and Austin meet at school pick up for his little sister, and their friendship blossoms from there. Austin, with a history of being impulsive, suggests the two marry. He gets insurance coverage to keep him on the straight and narrow, Charlie gets her mother off her back from trying to dictate her future. Just when Austin and Charlie are ready to admit this “ fake” marriage may not be fake at all, his past collides with the present and changes everything.
My opinion of Austin changed significantly after reading this book. It reminded me that if a person truly wants to change for the better, they can. But in order to be successful, that change needs to be for themselves and not for others.
If Vee writes it, I’m reading it! If you haven’t started the Ravens Hockey Series, what are you waiting for?!
Favorite Quote : “ I didn’t deserve this chance at a life that felt real and whole. Maybe that was part of the journey- to face the darkness and fight, to want redemption enough to carve it out of the ashes of my past. To learn that even the villains, if they’re willing to change, can be worth saving”.

Austin Hart has worked hard to maintain his sobriety and is now back in Chicago to rebuild his life. With a job coaching hockey alongside his stepdad and helping his mom care for his half-sister, he is hoping to repair those fractured relationships. When his health insurance lapses, he must come up with a solution to fund his vital therapy and medications. Charlotte Sinclair is starting off her career as a kindergarten teacher far from the clutches of her traditional southern mother who is determined to marry her off to a wealthy suitor. Soon after Charlie and Austin meet, he makes an impulsive yet mutually beneficial proposition - marriage for the healthcare benefits. While this seems eerily similar to his first marriage, his connection to Charlie is quite different - he feels seen for the very first time in his life. But when Austin discovers that he has a child from his previous marriage, will his past prevent him from having a future with Charlie?
I will be the first to admit that Austin was not one of my favorite characters in this universe, but this story completely turned it around for me. This book can totally be read as a standalone, but I highly recommend starting from the beginning to get the full emotional impact. It was very nice to see Austin’s evolution over time and his very real redemption arc - his life was not all sunshine and butterflies, but he absolutely worked hard to become the man he is in this book. Charlie was the perfect person to show Austin he is worthy of love, and I appreciated their open communication with each other to not only address his struggles but also her personal issues. Aside from the romance, I really enjoyed seeing him repair his relationships with friends and family - especially those vulnerable conversations with his mom and stepdad. It was very interesting to see the reunion with Nova and Scar from his and Charlie’s perspective - that was not at all how I imagined it in “Your Second Chance.” After the emotional roller coaster this entire series has taken me on, the ending was so heartwarming and refreshing. I am really hoping we get the story of a specific trio of characters who had me very concerned they would impact Austin's progress and happily ever after.
💜 Retired Hockey Player x Kindergarten Teacher 💜 Grump x Sunshine 💜 Addiction Recovery 💜 Forced Proximity 💜 Friends with Benefits to Lovers
It is recommended to read Books 3 & 4 before reading this one as they do interconnect between characters in all 3 books.
We are finally getting Austin's POV of his addiction, recovery and learning he is a father.
The story picks up 5 years after Austin entered rehab for his addiction and he is moving back to Chicago to help out with his younger sister and work with Ledger at his hockey camp.
Charlie is introduced as a kindergarten teacher who moved from GA to get away from an overbearing mother and build a life on her own terms.
When Austin and Charlie meet, the sparks seem to fly immediately and their first date shows how far Austin has grown with his recovery in how open and honest he is which I loved seeing this side of him.
When Austin's insurance is being cancelled and learning Charlie's job would cover a spouse, he presents her with an idea of marriage of covenience for both of them - he gets insurance and she gets her mom off her back in searching for a "suitable husband".
The story unfolds with Austin learning how to face his recovery path daily and Charlie learning to love herself despite never feeling worthy.
I really enjoyed these two growing together and the reality of their miscommuncations throughout them getting to know each other after the wedding. It was so pure and real in times he felt he was putting her first, but her reality was feeling second best. I loved that Charlie could give Austin such a safe space to reveal his darkest secrets and vice versa.
Austin really won me over in this book - he was able to openly discuss his past, his shortcomings, and be honest with those in his life of how they failed him when he was failing himself. It was beautfiul to see him heal relationships.
The one thing about Austin that kind of bothered me was jumping right into another marriage. I get why it needed to happen, but he was supposed to have learned from his past but his impulse issues went into overdrive with it all happening in one day when he had 3 months to sort out his insurance.
Charlie was a character that I did like for Austin, but I found her to be selfish at times when she knew more of Austin's struggles than anyone and he was always honest with her about his past especially Nova so her jealousy just felt overdone at time with that.
Overall, I enjoyed this story and am so happy Austin got his HEA! I loved the blended family aspect of it when he met his daughter and how they all truly did what was best for her.
Thanks to Vee Taylor for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Retired hockey player x teacher ✔️ marriage of convenience ✔️ friends with benefit to lovers ✔️ grumpy x sunshine ✔️ addiction recovery and mental health rep ✔️
THIS MF BOOK!!!! This was my first ever read of Vee’s writing and I was OBSESSED from the start.
The way the story started, with Austin in rehab, drew me in instantly, then following his journey out of rehab and back into normal life had me so invested in him. Now, I haven’t read any of his backstory yet, but even from this book alone it had my heart aching for him, the way he felt about his past, his self belief and self worth was low and the way Vee dealt with those topics as well as addiction and recovery was incredible. The things that Austin goes through in this book, the healthcare system etc, it was all very real and relatable and had me rooting for him to find his way and see his true worth.
Charlie was an amazing FMC, our southern sunshine girl, and Austin’s little sister teacher. She meets Austin at a school pick up and the attraction is there immediately. Our girl has some self esteem issues because of her past but she’s also strong, kind and warm, and you could feel the connection between her and Austin straight away.
Now… the emotional intimacy in this, the consent king that Austin was (because of his past experiences, I feel it made him hyper aware of making sure Charlie was okay with everything he did) — the way these two were everything each other needed before either of them knew it. With the emotional intimacy came a lot of heartbreaking moments too, a lot of vulnerability and confessions from both Austin and Charlie about how they saw themselves but the support that these two gave each other was everything,
The third act came with a huge surprise for me, and both main characters were conflicted as to how to deal with that but I’m so happy with how their story wrapped up, and the direction it took.
As I said previously I haven’t read books 3 and 4 yet (but I will be doing because I need the whole story!!!) which I know would have added a whole other layer to Austin’s redemption arc but this book alone was powerful enough for me to feel it, to feel the forgiveness and the love pouring out for Austin. The character development for both Charlie and Austin throughout was HUGE and I ended their story feeling incredibly proud of both of them and the group of people surrounding them.
Absolutely phenomenal read and would recommend to anyone and everyone. Vee, you have instantly become an auto-read author with this book alone and I can’t wait for what’s coming next 🥹💕
What a story. Truly. Austin has been the character living quietly in the back of my mind since book one — the one I couldn’t shake, the one I kept watching from the sidelines, waiting and hoping for his moment. Watching him unravel during Nova’s book was agonizing. The pain, the self-destruction, the choices that hurt everyone around him… it was brutal to witness. And yet, I couldn’t stop wanting more for him. I needed his redemption, and when it finally came? It was everything I hoped for and so much more.
What I loved most is that his redemption was earned. Nothing about his journey felt rushed or conveniently glossed over. We didn’t just skim his past or soften the edges of his mistakes — we dove headfirst into the darkness with him. Every ugly choice, every consequence, every moment of denial and suffering was laid bare. Austin didn’t get a free pass, and that mattered. Yes, he made terrible decisions, but this book made it clear that he was deeply unwell, drowning in pain he didn’t know how to face. Seeing him finally acknowledge that, accept help, and begin the long, uncomfortable process of healing was raw and powerful. It hurt — in the best way.
And then there’s Charlie ❤️ From the moment we met her in Nova’s book, I knew she was special. There was something about her quiet strength that immediately pulled me in. Charlie is the kind of woman I love to read about — someone who wants to stand on her own two feet, who values her independence, who is actively growing into herself rather than shrinking to fit someone else’s world. She doesn’t lose herself in love; she brings her whole self to it.
Together, Austin and Charlie were breathtaking. Their connection wasn’t built on instant sparks or grand gestures — it was rooted in friendship, trust, and genuine understanding. Watching them grow closer felt so natural, so earned, so real. They saw each other fully — the broken pieces, the healing parts, the fears, the hopes — and chose each other anyway. Their bond was soft and steady and deeply emotional, and honestly? Absolute perfection.
This book didn’t just give Austin a redemption arc — it gave him hope, love, and a future that felt deserved. It was emotional, cathartic, and beautifully written. No notes. Just a full heart and a deep sense of satisfaction when I turned the last page. 💕
Warning: do not read this review if you haven't read books 1-4 in this series. There will be spoilers.
After Nova got her happy ending in Your Second Chance, I was excited to hear more about Austin's story since the end of Your Biggest Downfall. Both of those books were emotionally devastating, so I was expecting the same to happen in Your Only Redemption.
The books opens four years after Austin leaves Chicago to move to California to enter rehab. He's moved home to be closer to his family and works part-time at Auburn's new cafe as well as working with Ledger as a part-time hockey coach for kids who can't afford to play on their own. Hoping to reconnect with his family so close to the city that caused him so much pain, things seem to be going in the right direction until it all comes to a screeching halt when he realizes he lost his mom's health insurance when he turned 26, putting his sobriety back at risk without his medication and therapy.
Enter Charlie, a kindergarten teacher at his sister Evie's school. Having moved from Georgia to get away from her controlling mom to forge her own path, she's new in town and has never really lived life in a way that was truly her own. Getting her footing as a teacher, meeting new friends, and trying to check things off her bucket list are the only things she's got in her plans.
After a chance meeting during school pick up, Austin and Charlie meet again while he's trying to clear his head with a walk down the closed beach while she's checking one of her bucket list items off. They both seem to have an immediate connection they can't deny. In a mutually beneficial agreement, the two agree to marry for convenience but agree to strictly stay friends/roommates. YEAH RIGHT VEE!
While this book wasn't as devastating as the others, it was still an emotional read that added depth to the characters that helped develop their relationship with each other. It was so nice to see all of the growth Austin had since we first met him, especially after the devastation that caused him to leave Chicago. Vee has a way of making you feel, and this book was no exception. Her writing was eloquent, emotional, and had me struggling to put the book down.
I'm so happy with how the Austin arc ended and am looking forward to Luna getting her happy ever after next!
didn’t just tug at my heart. It wrapped its hands around it and refused to let go.
Vee Taylor wrote a redemption story that feels raw, tender, and achingly human. This isn’t a flashy, easy love story. It’s about choosing yourself every single day, even when the past is loud and unforgiving, and letting someone stand beside you while you do it.
Austin Hart is broken in a way that feels real. Sober. In therapy. Trying so damn hard to be better. He’s carrying guilt, regret, and a history that doesn’t let him forget who he used to be. Watching him fight for his sobriety, for his family, and for a future he isn’t sure he deserves was quietly devastating and deeply hopeful all at once.
And Charlie. Sweet, steady, sunshine Charlie. She isn’t naive or overly bright in a way that feels forced. She’s gentle, grounded, and strong in that calm, unwavering way. She sees Austin not as his worst moments, but as the man he’s becoming. Their connection grows slowly, safely, built on kindness and trust instead of instant fireworks. And somehow that made it burn even hotter.
The marriage of convenience trope was handled beautifully here. It felt practical, believable, and emotionally layered. Two people meeting at the exact moment they both need an anchor. The grumpy x sunshine dynamic shines without turning either character into a stereotype. Charlie never tries to fix Austin, and Austin never dims Charlie’s light. They grow together.
The reveal of Austin’s past colliding with his present hit hard. It forced him to face everything he’s been running from, and the way the story handled accountability, forgiveness, and self-worth was honestly stunning. This book understands that redemption isn’t instant. It’s earned through choices, honesty, and patience.
This story is heavy without being hopeless, emotional without being manipulative, and romantic without ignoring reality. It made me ache, made me proud of these characters, and made me believe in quiet, steady love.
If you love redemption arcs that actually feel earned, marriage of convenience with real emotional depth, and grumpy men learning they’re worthy of love, Your Only Redemption is a five-star, heart-splitting read. I closed this book feeling full, emotional, and deeply satisfied. 💙🏒✨
Retired hockey player x kindergarten teacher Grumpy x sunshine Marriage of convenience friends with benefits to lovers Forced proximity Addiction recovery redemption arc
"I needed to fix myself because I wanted to, not because someone else needed me to."
"You're mine, Char. You'll be the reason I walk this earth and the reason I close my eyes at night. My partner, my wife, my last, my only."
"I promise to not rewrite the past but to help you build a future that's bright and beautiful and full of blooming moments."
"Watch as I devour you, as I worship every inch of your body."
"Good girl... now, come here and let me ruin you."
"My partner, my wife, my last, my only."
Ok I’ve been dying for Austin’s story! I devoured this! He’s struggled and grown and changed so much! While you don’t need to read the first two books. And technically you can read this as a standalone I definitely recommend read at least books 3-5 to get the whole story but I’d 1000% recommend the whole series! Austin has worked hard to maintain his sobriety and wants to rebuild his life. With a job coaching hockey along side his stepfather also caring for his Mother and half sister. When his health insurance lapses, he must come up with a solution to fund his vital therapy and medications. Charlotte is starting off her career as a kindergarten teacher far from the clutches of her traditional southern mother who is determined to marry her off to someone with money. After Charlie and Austin meet, he makes an impulsive yet mutually beneficial proposition - marriage for the healthcare benefits. Feeling like a relapse in judgement while seemingly repeating making an impulsive decision by offering to marry her, his connection to Charlie is quite different. He feels seen for the very first time ever! But when Austin discovers that he has a child from his previous marriage, will his past prevent him from having a future with Charlie? Can they overcome this situation Austin finds himself in? I definitely recommend this read. I couldn’t put this down! I’m obsessed with this series and love this author!
My flawed, emotional man Austin Hart 😭 you did it. You fucking did it!
If you’re new here, I HIGHLY recommend going back to at least book 3 to get a good solid back story on Austin. If you want to jump right into YOR, totally fine too. But I truly feel like in order to understand his charters fully you should absolutely read book 3 in the series!!
Back to it. Austin Hart is an addict. He’s 5 years sober, done the hard work, continues to put in the work outside of the safe space he made for himself, but now his health care has run out. He recognizes that he needs the help of his medication and therapy to continue on his sobriety journey.
Insert Charlotte “Charlie” Sinclair. Sunshine kindergarten teacher who just moved to Chicago from Georgia. Drowning in her mother’s expectations and a life time of harsh criticism, Charlie wants-no she NEEDS-this fresh start. It’s the first time in her life she is doing something for herself.
We see two broken MCs who are strive to make others happy, who have never felt first a day in their life, trying to navigate the messy marriage of convenience they have trust themselves into. Austin needs insurance and Charlie wants her mother off of her back.
Spoilers ahead!!!!
Stop here if you don’t want them!!
The foundations Austin and Charlie start to build together is inching its way to a solid start when Austin comes face to face with a child he never knew he had. From an ex wife he knows he wronged. From a past life that’s now caught up with him. Austin and Charlie cling to shreds of stability and friendship they had built as they now navigate the biggest obstacle to date.
I think that Vee depicted such a healthy, beautiful coparenting relationship that extends beyond Austin and Nova. Charlie and Ollie are embraced in Scar’s life in a way that feels so nature and whole. A place at the table for everyone.
Thank you Vee for creating this beautiful world and showing us that just because we were once broken doesn’t mean life has to stay that way. That there’s hope and love at the end of a hard journey.
ARC Review — Your Only Redemption by Vee Taylor Raven Hockey Series, Book 5
Austin is back from rehab, back in Chicago, and committed to sobriety. He’s navigating a new world in recovery — one that isn’t always bright or easy — but he is determined to move forward. He’s working alongside his stepdad, Ledger, building a relationship with his little sister Evie, and learning how to show up emotionally in ways he never could before. With the help of therapy, medication, and a real desire to heal, he’s making progress… until the looming threat of losing his insurance sends his impulsive brain into overdrive, resulting in a marriage-of-convenience plan that changes everything.
Charlie, a Southern transplant, is carving out her independence after escaping a difficult relationship with her emotionally draining mother. Now teaching in Chicago and working through her own growth bucket list, she meets Austin through Evie’s school — and from the start, he’s completely smitten. As their lives intertwine, Austin realizes Charlie may hold the key to solving his problem… but what unfolds is far deeper than either of them expected.
Their story is hard-fought, deeply emotional, and beautifully layered. The intensity of their feelings, the challenges they face, and the vulnerability they share make their journey incredibly powerful. Watching Austin’s redemption unfold — step by step — is both heartbreaking and healing. The foreshadowing at the end of book four promised emotional growth, and this book delivered fully. Living inside that maturity and recovery journey was soul-soothing.
Charlie’s strength, self-discovery, and growing independence are tender, real, and meaningful. She doesn’t just love Austin — she grows alongside him. Their connection feels earned, not rushed, and that makes it resonate even more.
Reading the Raven Hockey series has been an emotional experience for me personally, as some themes hit close to home. The author’s forward notes are raw and touching, drawing me into uninterrupted, immersive reading. Book five is a true redemption story — powerful, honest, and beautifully fought.
I cannot praise this collection enough — especially Austin’s story
Vee, you gave us a deeply emotional, beautifully written redemption story with heart, heat, and hope. Total win!!
This is Austin's story, which has been simmering in the background since book one, and even when he's making every wrong turn imaginable, you just can't quite shake him. Watching him crash and burn in Your Biggest Downfall was rough, but Your Only Redemption finally gives him the arc he's been fighting for. And the best part? It's not some quick-fix redemption. It's messy, it's honest, and it is earned. Austin has to face every dark corner of his past, and this book doesn't let him off the hook. His healing is slow, painful, and absolutely worth it. Enter Charlie. Quiet strength, zero nonsense, and the kind of woman who refuses to shrink herself for anyone. She sees the real Austin, not the mistakes, not the guilt, but a man fighting his way back to himself. He also sees her just as clearly, the hurt she carries and the pieces she's had to hide because of her mother's control.
What grows between them isn't some instant romance; it's trust, a slow-burning friendship, and two people choosing each other with honesty and open hearts. Together, they grow, they challenge each other, support each other, and build something steady and real. Their chemistry? Amazing (the mirror scene ). Their emotional connection? Even better.
The last part of the book hits hard, but it's powerful and necessary as we watch Austin step into the man he's been trying to become with Charlie standing right beside him. It's incredibly satisfying. Vee didn't write us a fairytale romance. She gave us a raw, heartfelt story about rebuilding your life, owning your past, and finding someone who sees your worth even when you can't. Austin and Charlie are the real deal, and their journey is everything longtime readers have been waiting for.
One more thing, Vee Taylor, can we get a book for Jacob????
Your Last Redemption by Vee Taylor is exactly what the title promises: pain, growth, hockey, and one hell of a redemption arc.
Let’s start with Charlie. I loved her. Her backstory hit hard, growing up under a super controlling, perfectionist mother who had her entire life planned out before she ever got a say. Watching Charlie fight tooth and nail to become more than what was “expected” for her was so satisfying. She didn’t just stumble into independence; she fought for it.
And her relationship with her brother Jacob?? One of my favorite parts of the book. Protective without being overbearing, supportive without trying to “fix” her just solid sibling love. As someone with THREE brothers…I love a healthy brother/sister bond. Also… Vee… respectfully… are we getting more of Jacob’s story because I am asking. 👀
Now onto Austin. If you finished Your Second Chance and weren’t exactly his biggest fan, same. I went into this book very much like “I do not like this guy.” But watching him hit rock bottom—and then actually do the work to claw his way out of addiction—was awesome. No shortcuts, just effort and accountability. His growth felt real and earned, which made his redemption believable.
Is Austin my ideal MMC? Not exactly. Don’t kill me, but I tend to like my book men a little more macho, a little more growly, a little more “touch her and die.” Austin is more on the sensitive side than I usually prefer. HOWEVER—he was absolutely the perfect match for Charlie. He saw her, respected her strength, and met her where she was.
One thing Vee Taylor does incredibly well—and something I’ve loved across the books of hers I’ve read—is how central mental health is to the story. It’s not just a subplot or a throwaway line; it’s woven into the characters and their choices. It adds depth and heart, and it’s one of the reasons her stories stick with me.
So while this wasn’t a full 5-star read for me, it was emotional and thoughtful. Hockey romance with substance, growth, and redemption?
Highly recommend if you love: 🏒 Hockey romance ❤️ Redemption arcs that actually redeem 🧠 Mental health representation 💪 Strong FMCs carving their own path
I was lucky to receive an advanced reader copy of "Your only redemption" by Vee Taylor in exchange for an honest review. These opinions are all my own and I am voluntarily leaving this honest review.
Ok don't hate me, but this was the first Vee Taylor book I have read! I was really excited when I received this Arc but didn't have time to read all the other Raven's hockey books beforehand and really wish I did! I LOVED this book.
I am a big Hockey romance lover - I love Liz Tomforde and Becka Mack (just to name a couple) and this book was on the same playing field as both of there series!!!! I truly think (and hope) that Raven's Hockey becomes just as popular as the Windy City Series and the Vancouver Vipers are as more people discover this series like I recently did!
This book was so amazing - I read it so fast!!!! I won't lie this book is REAL. Austin has lived through some tough shit as have Charlie. This book isn't fluffy and sunshine and rainbows it could be triggering if you have exposure to or a history of alcoholism, drug abuse, verbal parental abuse, SA (just to name the top ones I remember) but I appreciate the raw and real characters Vee wrote.
I love Charlie and Austin's romance. I truly felt like I was part of there "circle" while reading this book and thought about them constantly when I was not reading. I will be reading the other 4 Ravens Hockey books as well as Vee's other books after being and ARC reader for this one! 5/5 stars!!!!
- Marriage of connivence - "fake marriage" - he falls first - childhood trauma 🤝 addiction - second chance 🤝 found family
Favorite quote: "Loving you is like finding light after the storm has passed. Everything is still broken and messy, but that light makes it all worth it. You make it worth it. You're the reason I believe in more- more love, more life, more than I ever thought I deserved."
5 freaking ⭐️s I am completely in love with Charlie!!!! I think we all need someone like her in our lives. With all of her brightness there are struggles that both of them faced. Be prepared to laugh and cry because you will do both. This is your typically Vee Taylor book. Not scared of the hard topics and that's why if she writes it, I will read/buy it.
Dedication: For the redemption story I never got because he refused to change, but found the courage to rewrite on my own terms. 🥹
What to expect: 💍 Marriage of convivence 🩷 Retired hockey player 💍 Kindergarten teacher 🩷 Grumpy x sunshine 💍 Friends with benefits to lovers 🩷 Addiction recovery 💍 Forced proximity
Charlie Astor AKA Ms. Honey: She is a southern girl from Georgia that moved to Chicago to become a kindergarten teacher. She is the family outcast and was made to hate her body.
Austin Hart AKA Hot brother: Recovering alcohol and drug addict. Needs health insurance to continue going to therapy and being able to get his meds. LOVES Charlies body.
As soon as these two meet in the lake I knew they had a special bond. It is very had to make that come through on page the first time a couple meets. Charlie was the piece that Austin had been missing.
This is just a beautiful story of Austin getting his redemption for himself. Taking his time to recover and work on himself before jumping into anything. He is not that same 18-21yr old kid anymore. I see that and thankfully he was able to have others see him as the man he is now.
Thank you Vee Taylor for the early copy. Above are my thoughts.
Do not skip the content warnings, author’s note, or dedication. Seriously. From the dedication alone, I knew this story was going to hurt and heal me, and it absolutely did… in the most meaningful way.
Knowing Austin’s story from books 1, 3 and a bit in 4, my heart completely shattered for him all over again. Watching him navigate life post-rehab, feeling isolated and burdened by his past, was incredibly emotional and human.
The connection between Charlie and Austin had me feeling everything. I devoured this book because I couldn’t step away from their story. Their relationship is intense, tender, healing, and passionate all at once. That mirror scene was somehow both emotional and hot!
The final 20% is heavy but beautifully done. I won’t spoil anything, but these moments are powerful and necessary, and they truly solidify the meaning of redemption in this story. Seeing where these characters started versus where they end up is so satisfying.
Charlie and Austin are perfect for each other. They bring out the best in one another and love fiercely and honestly. Vee Taylor is an exceptional storyteller, her characters have so much depth, and the way their stories intertwine feels effortless and intentional. It’s impossible not to get wrapped up in the world she’s created.
I don’t think I’ve rooted for a fictional character this hard in a long time. Rooting for Austin and for everyone in his circle felt natural, emotional, and so incredibly rewarding. This book truly lives up to its title. 💔❤️
Thank you to Vee Taylor and her team for the ARC in exchange for my honest review! I will never turn down a Vee Taylor book!
- Retired hockey player x kindergarten teacher - Grumpy x sunshine - Marriage of convenience - Friends with benefits to lovers - Forced proximity - Addiction recovery
This book lives up to its title; it is indeed a redemption story. I was really looking forward to reading Austin’s story from his point of view since book 3. Reading about his experiences going through rehab and sobriety really showed his growth. Vee Taylor did an amazing job showing us what Austin went through to get to his HEA. The relationship between Austin and Charlie grew from their friendship into a beautiful love story that helped heal both of them.
The story begins 5 years after Austin entered rehab and he is moving back to Chicago to help take care of his half-sister as well as work at a hockey camp with Ledger (his stepdad and former teammate).
Austin meets Charlie, a kindergarten teacher that has recently moved from Georgia looking to finally live life on her own terms and away from her controlling mother. Charlie is sunshine personified; Austin cannot help but feel drawn to Charlie and the same can be said for Charlie.
As Austin is getting settled and continuing with his sobriety, he finds out that his health insurance has run out. Well, desperate times call for desperate measures, and he asks Charlie to marry him so that he can have health insurance and Charlie’s mother will see that she is married and stop looking for a husband for Charlie.
If you are looking for a redemption story that is also a marriage of convenience between two flawed characters that will give you hope, this is the book for you.
Please check triggers.

There hasn’t been a single book in the Ravens series that I haven’t absolutely devoured. Vee has created characters who are deeply flawed, yet impossible not to root for.
We’ve already met Austin Hart—drafted into the NHL at just 18, plagued by addiction and a failed first marriage, and now back in Chicago trying to figure out how to be an actual adult. Charlie has fled Georgia—well, more accurately, fled her mother. She’s a teacher at the school Austin’s half-sister Evie attends, and Austin is immediately drawn to the woman he has named “Ms. Honey.” When a series of coincidences keeps pushing them together, Austin offers to help Charlie complete her bucket list. I don’t think either of them expected a marriage of convenience to be added to their relationship, but Austin needs insurance, and the arrangement might finally get Charlie’s mother off her back about returning to Georgia to find a “suitable” man. Once they’re married and living together, keeping their distance—and their boundaries—becomes nearly impossible, especially when what they both really want is to be messy together in the steamiest ways possible. But beneath the chemistry, both Austin and Charlie are carrying deep insecurities. Being together might be exactly what pushes them to become stronger, better versions of themselves. But when Austin attends a school event to support Charlie and unexpectedly runs into Nova—and a little girl who looks just like him. Suddenly, it feels painfully clear that Charlie may always be his second choice, and all she’s ever wanted is to be someone’s first. Charlie’s insecurities combined with Austin’s dark past, make you hope they can overcome it all and be together.
I could not wait for Austin's recovery...comeback...victory... story.
My heart broke reading Nova & his story. My heart hurt and healed reading Nova's second chance.
Austin's second chance was beautiful. The fear he grappled with due to his addiction, his failed marriage, his rocky relationship with his mother and stepfather, and the weight of what he found out about his biological father.
He worked hard daily to be a better person, to fight addiction. The way Vee portrayed addiction and what it did to not only the person going through the motions of addiction & recovery but to those around them was so respectful and raw.
Charlie, a literal angel. She left the south to escape the pressure her mother put on her and to live her own life for as long as she could. She was kind, selfless, understanding, and full of love. She also struggled with self doubt, hating her body because of her mother's words, feared never being enough, and knew she ran from her problems as a safety net.
She never judged Austin, and when he needed help- she didn't hesitate.
Seeing their love story unfold was beautiful. There was no judgement, just honestly, loyalty, rawness, and beauty. Neither were perfect. What started as a marriage of convenience was this perfect storm, two magnets that were always destined together.
Seeing Austin's side of meeting Scarlette and navigating this new grey area with Nova. I was so proud of them both.
I cannot wait to read more and hope we see snippets of them in future stories.
