SECRETS IN AMISH COUNTRY by Mary Alford is the suspenseful, gripping narrative of Eve Lantz and Assistant Police Chief Casey Masterson’s story in the small town of Rachel’s Crossing, Kentucky. Eve has returned home, after twelve years, after her bruder’s death. Refusing to accept the first ruling of suicide, she’ll do what needs be done to prove them wrong. Casey’s been the one she could depend on and lean on all her life – including now, when he volunteered to help her. Can they find the truth or will it only lead to extreme danger for Eve and her family?

Feeling responsible for her daed’s death, Eve had left Rachel’s Crossing and her family. She’d made a life for herself working in a bakery, but never had much of a private life. She felt she hadn’t deserved one. When called home over the death of her brother and knowing how they were raised, plus his love for Sophia, his daughter, Eve knows Akin would never have committed suicide. While Eve and Casey visit the site where Akin was found, they were met with gunfire. It’s the first hint that they were on to something by saying the ruling was wrong. Who wants to stop them?

Casey has always had feelings for Eve, but being Englisch, he’s always kept his feelings to himself. He knows in his heart and all that is in him, that he would protect Eve, even if it meant his own life. Growing up, Casey admired Beniah. His death was like losing his own dad. The Amish way of life has always resonated with him and having him wishing he was Amish. Now after many years of police work and seeing the underbelly of life - the lack of humanity, the ideals of the Amish pull him even more. If he wasn’t a policeman, who would keep their little town in check?

With threats and physical attempts on Eve’s life, can Casey convince her to leave town? If not, he must stress to her the importance of staying out of sight. When it’s necessary to go out, and with all the police department plus some, it’s proven it’s still not safe. What are the connections between Eve’s daed and bruder’s deaths? When other people are found dead, does it prove they are getting closer or that someone is desperate that they not find out the truth?

SECRETS IN AMISH COUNTRY is a stunning, well-crafter piece of fiction that will keep you quickly turning pages trying to solve the question of whodunit while hoping Eve and Casey can find some common ground. Mary Alford gives us a story of suspense, mystery, danger, family and sweet romance woven together with a wonderful thread of faith. SECRETS IN AMISH COUNTRY is a magnificent FIVE STAR book that I can highly recommend to everyone!

I received an ARC of this book with no requirement or expectations of a review. All opinions are completely my own.

If you enjoy a read that really keeps you on your toes and ducking as bullets fly, this book sure has it all. I have read many books by this author and she never disappoints.
When Eve Lantz's brother dies, she finally comes back home. She left after her father had been murdered, and now has come home to help her mom and her little niece, now an orphan.
Someone does not want her here in Rachel’s Crossing, Kentucky, but whom, what does she know that could have her murdered.
Another childhood friend is now by her side, he is Assistant Police Chief Casey Masterson, and he sure is there to help her and her family. There does seem to be some sparks flying between these two, along with all the danger that seems to be around every corner.
As the story evolved, and the danger increased, you keep wondering whom to trust.
Did I ever guess right, not really, with all the twists here, you are in for a great read, it will keep you page turning!

Secrets in Amish Country hits the ground running with danger and pulse-pounding action. This gripping return to Rachel Crossing, Kentucky, features Eve Lantz, who has returned home after her brother's shocking death, and Assistant Police Chief Casey Masterson, her childhood friend. As they reunite and embark on a high-stakes investigation to uncover the truth, bullets fly and feelings from the past are rekindled. The intense, emotional, well-paced storyline turned into a compelling "just-one-more-chapter" read that kept me guessing to the end. I felt an immediate connection to the engaging characters which kept me deeply invested in their journey. I love the Amish community of Rachel's Crossing and the way Ms. Alford authentically portrays the peaceful life of the Amish and uses it as a contrast to the danger and suspense. I enjoyed the unfolding of Eve and Casey's sweet but challenging second chance romance. I greatly appreciate the inspiring faith message of trust, forgiveness, and redemption. I totally enjoyed this romantic suspense gem and highly recommend it.

I received this book with no expectations of a positive review. I love returning to Rachel's Crossing learning more about the Amish ways as it deals with those outside the faith who live in the area surrounding eir community.

Eve receives a call that no one wants to get. Her brother is gone. He is found at the same place her father had been found twelve years earlier. As Eve makes the trip back to Rachel's Crossing, she is sure and certain that her brother did not commit suicide. She has to be strong for her Mom and niece. She has to find out who would do this to her brother. Eve has no way of knowing that she is finding herself right in the middle of a mystery that dates back at least twelve years.

Join Eve and Casey as they are thrown back together. Once childhood friends now to find answers to to probing questions that linger. This book will keep you turning the pages as you do not see the next plot twist coming.

Secrets abound in Rachel's Crossing and despite the involvement of law enforcement, the murderers remain elusive.

Until Eve's brother is murdered and she teams up with Casey to figure out why her family has a bullseye on them.

The scary antics of the criminals continue throughout the story and the reader is left guessing on who is involved.

Will Casey and Eve be able to keep her and her family safe?

Mary is such an incredible author. The way she writes about faith and family is so inspiring. This story of an Amish family that has endured such heartache and brokenness is beautiful. The way that she shows how beauty can truly come from ashes is so special. Mary always shows a way to redemption through faith in Jesus no matter what is happening. Eve and Casey are amazing characters but so is Eve’s family and Casey’s law enforcement family. Each one has a great place in this story. It was a page turner for sure. I did not want to put the book down. It is definitely worth reading!

This was quite the page turner for sure! From the very beginning you will find yourself knee deep in an investigation you know will take a lot to uncover, with a sweet friends to more romance brewing in the background!

Eve has returned after the death of her brother. It’s rumored to be a suicide, but she knows him and struggles to accept that. She already has lost her father years prior, a death she blames herself for, but this she struggles to believe. But when she finds herself the new target of a killer, it becomes clear his death may have been planned after all. With the help of her childhood friend and police chief Casey, they need to get down to the bottom of who is after her and why, and what the connection is with her late father and brother’s death. Casey will do anything to keep her safe, especially since he’s loved her since childhood. But with him being English and her being Amish, murderers may not be the only thing standing in their way.

This was definitely packed full with page turning suspense and mystery. The romance in this one was rather understated, but still sweet overall. I was happy to check back in with Micah and Diana! And I certainly did not figure out all the twists and turns with this one... I was stumped!

I recieved a complimentary copy. This review reflects my honest opinion.

A page turner, mystery, intrigue, suspense, second chances, betrayal, rebuilding relationships with God, what more can you want? A truly faith filled inspirational novel. However much we try to bury our past it has a way of resurfacing, we need to confront mistakes to be able to build a better future with God at the centre. Mary has meshed together the Amish community with the Englischers around them in a very believable story.
The whole story comes to life and it’s easy to relate to their lives, how many of us have blamed God for allowing tragedy to hit our lives. He never promised His children a pain free life down here, even His own son suffered out of love for us. God doesn’t change, He has our best interests at heart and He sees the ‘long game’.

Congratulations to Mary Alford for her new book Secrets in Amish Country.

This is an outstanding, fast paced, exciting can’t wait to turn the next page adventure. Talk about “run for your life”, that’s just exactly what Eve Lantz and Assistant Police Chief, Casey Masterson had to do. A shadowy figure was trying to kill Eve believing she knew something she shouldn’t.

No one tells a “who done it” like Ms. Alford. Her descriptive use of words is well done. The development of the narrative is unsurpassed. You will not tire of the story from the beginning to the end.l

I love the setting of Rachel’s Crossing, Kentucky. Just enough in the Kentucky mountains to be just a little spooky.

Not your usual Amish story, but Ms. Alford brings us to understand how depending on God is very important. I highly recommend this wonderful book. The release day is October 27, 2026.

Finding forever in unexpected places

As we journey with Eve and Casey, we enter a world of danger, chaos, hidden secrets, betrayal, and doubts. But we also find faith, friendships, family, and forever woven between the pages.

The chemistry between Casey and Eve is good, friends from childhood. Casey has given his heart to her and is willing to give up all for her and peace in his heart. The plot moves quickly with danger escalating almost in each chapter. It will definitely keep you on your toes. I didn’t see the villain coming until he was revealed, so good job by the Author in weaving the web of secrets.

I received a complimentary copy from the author and these are my voluntary and honest opinions. I was not required to leave a positive review.

I have read several books by this author. This novel has so many great elements to it. There is a cold case to solve, a current crime that was made to look like a suicide, lots of suspense, and some romance to lighten all the drama. There were so many twists and turns in this novel that I did not figure out who the bad guy was on my own. It definitely kept my attention from beginning to end. I loved the relationship between the two main characters as well. I highly recommend this book.
