SECRETS IN AMISH COUNTRY is such an addicting story. The suspense was plentiful and completely off the charts! I’m pretty sure I was holding my breath while reading most of this heart pounding tale. After reading SECRETS IN AMISH COUNTRY I’m determined to read everything Mary Alford writes!
Compelling and very involved, SECRETS IN AMISH COUNTRY moves quickly, uncovering one suspect after another while also tying the extended family together. SECRETS IN AMISH COUNTRY will stay with you for a long time after you finish reading it. There were several times I found myself desperately wanting to keep reading, to find out what would happen next, but I was afraid to turn the page, scared of the possible fates awaiting these characters.
SECRETS IN AMISH COUNTRY is an awesome book! It is well written by Mary Alford with a great cast of characters. It was very hard for me to to put down and only did when I absolutely had to! It will keep you wondering what will happen next. I loved every minute of this story as well as the people of Rachel’s Crossing, Kentucky and hated to see it end. How was it possible that Eve’s father and brother both died in the same exact spot! Read SECRETS IN AMISH COUNTRY to find out. You will love every minute of it! Trust me!
I received a complimentary copy of this book from JustRead . Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
This is a “can’t put it down” book start to finish! Suspense isn’t a strong enough description when clue after clue, suspect after suspect just leads to another clue, another suspect, yet answers, secrets remain buried. What a phenomenal masterpiece written by an equally phenomenal author!
What a exciting, fast paced, highly suspenseful read! It was Difficult to put down and I did, only when necessary. The romance played off the past and was just the right amount at just the right speed. Twists and danger were prevalent consistently and I loved it. Themes include truth, forgiveness, overcoming guilt, second chances, and redemption. "They won't stop, will they?" she whispered for Casey alone. "No. They won't." Her chin lifted. "Then we have to make it cost."

My favorite quote is
Eve’s hands curled around the horse’s reins, wishing the memories back into the dark recesses where she tried to bury them.
There were things she wanted to do before meeting Casey. Things she needed to do alone.
Casey had offered to pick her up in Munfordville, but Eve refused because she knew he’d try to stop her.
She had to see the place where Akin died. Needed to touch the ground where his blood had been spilled and ask Gott why. Why had two people she loved dearly died in almost the exact same place? Eve had stored-up anger at Gott and herself for what happened to her daed twelve years earlier, unable to forgive either of them. She still attended the biweekly services, but her heart was far from Gott.
When Casey told her where Akin had died, Eve felt as if she was being dragged back into a nightmare she hadn’t been able to escape. It wasn’t just any stretch of woods. It was “that place.” The same location where her father had been murdered twelve years ago.
I recommend this book.

I am looking forward to reading more books by
Mary Alford.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced readers copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions shared here in this review are my own.
From Love Inspired Suspense: Courage. Danger. Faith.
I read this in one sitting. So so good. Every time Mary Alford captures your attention with her fast paced romantic suspense. I love the sweet and wholesome Amish LiS she writes always. I’m extremely picky with what LiS books and authors I pick to read but Mary is always my go to. I know she’s gonna write such wonderful suspense with the faith always coming into the story as a main theme. This story was intriguing because honestly I had no idea who the k!ller was. From the beginning I had zero ideas who so that was fun trying to come up with the clues to see who. Eve and Casey were some of my favorite characters from her Amish books so far. I loved getting to see previous characters from Rachel’s Crossing. I really hope Mary is not done with Rachel’s Crossing in the future.
Until next time, thank you Mary for my gifted copy. I was under no obligation to write a review and all thoughts expressed are my own.
People who stood their ground painted themselves as targets and Eve was in the crosshairs. The truth buried your father and your brother - it will bury you too!
Eve Lantz has returned to Rachel’s Crossing for the funeral of her brother, Akin - 12 years after the murder of her father. One unsolved murder and now another in the same family - what is happening in this quiet Amish area? These killings appear to be calculated and intentional and yet the local police have no real clues. Is something being moved through this unsuspecting community? Who is targeting the Lantz family? The danger is real and I must admit I was wondering if Eve and those helping her would survive. Will this one ever get solved or will they have to live in fear?
This copy was received through Love Inspired Suspense. These thoughts and star rating are my own.
Mary Alford has done it again! Secrets in Amish Country pulled me in and kept me turning the pages as I followed Eve and Caleb’s journey. Their story was captivating from beginning to end, filled with mystery, suspense, unexpected twists, and moments that kept me guessing. I loved watching their journey unfold as secrets came to light and danger threatened to change everything.
Mary Alford has such a wonderful talent for weaving together faith, suspense, and compelling characters in a way that keeps readers invested in every page. The Amish country setting added another layer of intrigue to the story, making it easy to become completely immersed in the world she created. I especially enjoyed following Eve and Caleb as they navigated the challenges and uncertainties before them, wondering what revelations would come next.
This is exactly the kind of Christian suspense that reminds me why I love Mary Alford’s books so much! She knows how to build tension, keep readers guessing, and deliver a story that is both engaging and memorable. If you love faith-filled suspense, intriguing mysteries, and characters whose journeys draw you in, Secrets in Amish Country is definitely a book to add to your reading list.
If you love and enjoy reading a story that will have you glued to the first page all the way to the last in one sitting this is it. From one of my favorite authors of suspense and thrilling plots comes "Secrets in Amish Country" The diva of stories that creates characters that will pull you in within each line comes Eve and Casey.
When a tragic hits home, Eve returns back to her hometown in Amish country. But little does she know that someone is waiting for her, someone is watching her. Someone that holds secrets. Secrets that they think Eve knows. Is that with the protection of her childhood friend they must keep alive after attacks and incomplete answers start showing up. Can she trust all her friends, or not? Can the phone calls hold the pieces of answers that she needs? Or will someone cover the secrets they hold more with getting her out of the picture too?
The death of her father first and now her brother's. Both in the same place. Will she become the third one in the same location?
I was given an ARC from the author. All stated here are my own. I was not required a positive comment.
When Eve Lantz receives a phone call from childhood friend Casey Masterson who is now a Assistant Police Chief in her hometown of Rachel’s Crossing, Kentucky telling her that her brother Akin was dead of an apparent suicide her whole world seemed to break away. She couldn’t believe that after everything that had happened of the past few years that her beloved brother would take his life. She knew something was wrong with that. His body had been found almost in the same spot that her father’s body had been found. Now someone was trying to kill Eve. Her Mamm and niece were also in danger. Casey wasn’t going to allow anyone to hurt Eve or her family, she meant too much to him. Now it was a race to see if they could catch her brother’s killer, who as probably her father’s killer as well, before they succeeded in killing Eve. It seemed that no matter where they went or what they did the killer was always one step ahead of them. Once again Mary Alford weaves a story of suspense and keeps you on the edge of your seat the entire time. "I received this book free from the author, and this is my honest review."

Two family tragedies. A trail of unanswered questions. And someone determined to keep Eve Lantz from learning the truth. As she and Assistant Police Chief Casey Masterson search for the connection between her father’s unsolved murder and her brother’s sudden death, their investigation puts them in the crosshairs of a killer.
And the truth could cost Eve everything… even her life.
Secrets in Amish Country by Mary Alford promises a gripping blend of suspense, family secrets, danger, and faith. At the center of the story is Eve Lantz, whose return home after her brother's sudden death quickly turns into a fight for survival when an unknown assailant opens fire. Already haunted by her father's unsolved murder, Eve has compelling reasons to seek answers, and the danger surrounding her family suggests that the truth may be far more complicated than she imagined.
One of the most engaging aspects of the premise is the connection between the two tragedies and Eve's determination to uncover what happened. Her decision to work with her childhood friend, Assistant Police Chief Casey Masterson, creates a strong foundation for both the investigation and the emotional dimension of the story. Casey's promise to protect Eve adds another layer of tension as the pair pursue answers while facing an adversary determined to keep the past buried.
The escalating danger gives the narrative a strong sense of urgency. Each discovery threatens to draw Eve and Casey deeper into a web of secrets, raising the stakes not only for their investigation but also for their lives. Eve's unresolved grief and her search for the truth create an opportunity to explore courage in the face of uncertainty, while Casey's commitment to protecting her introduces questions of trust, loyalty, and the risks involved in confronting painful truths.
With its Amish-country setting and its emphasis on mystery, faith, and personal danger, the novel has the potential to appeal to readers who enjoy inspirational suspense with emotionally grounded characters. The 368-page paperback format offers room for an unfolding investigation, complicated relationships, and the gradual revelation of long-hidden secrets. For fans of faith-centered mysteries, Secrets in Amish Country offers an intriguing premise built around one woman's determination to discover the truth, even when doing so could cost her everything.
Eve Lantz didn't think she'd return home, but then her brother passes suddenly and she knew she must return home for her mom and niece. As she goes to the place her brother was found, she's met with gunfire. Still feeling guilt for her father's unsolved murder years prior, she's determined no matter the cost to figure out who killed her dad and now her brother. As gunfire greets Eve, Assistant Police Chief Casey Masterson must keep Eve alive. Casey and Eve grew up as childhood friends and must now work together to figure out who wants to take Eve's life to keep their secrets buried. This was a good, fast paced read that kept you guessing till the end. Lots of nice twists and turns. I really enjoyed it and loved visiting Rachel's crossing again! I would definitely recommend this read.
Eve Lantz returns home to Rachel’s Crossing for the sad occasion of her brother Akin’s funeral. His death was mysteriously linked to their father’s death about a decade before and Eve teams up with her childhood friend Casey to try to find out the truth about what happened to both of her beloved family members. The plot is intricately woven with a lot of fake trails as well as clues for me to follow, so I thoroughly enjoyed trying to solve the mystery along with Casey and Eve. Crackling with tension and some head-spinning twists, this quick-paced novel kept me engaged and entertained as I read the story of their quest for the truth. The closer they got to discovering who was responsible for the deaths, the more danger Eve was in and since Casey had vowed to protect her, he was also in imminent danger. The plot was intriguing, the characters were believable and relatable and the eerie setting was perfect for the story. With a dramatic climax that I didn’t see coming, the expertly plotted book presented a challenge for me to solve the crimes, but every minute that I spent trying was enjoyable. I voluntarily received a complimentary copy of this book from the author. I was not required to write a positive review and all opinions expressed are my own.
Home is where the heart is. Secrets are also buried at home in amish country.
For eve Lantz’s coming home can be deadly, but finding the truth is more important. Twelve years ago losing a family member and now coming home to the loss of her brother. There's more going on than anyone knows.
But eve and her childhood friend won't stop until they find the truth.
And in the end, everything comes to light and love always wins in the end.
Alfred writes the best amish stories. I've enjoyed each book. I have read by her.
Powerful story by Mary Alford. Powerful from beginning to end. Eve’s brother is dead, they say suicide, but she knows it’s not. Her dad was murdered twelve years ago and it is still unsolved. Her childhood friend, Casey, is the police officer that notified her and is there to help her. Someone is out to silence Eve but she doesn’t remember anything that will help with the investigation. *I received this as an ARC reader and am leaving my unbiased review.
Eve, an Amish woman returns home for her brothers funeral. A non-Amish family friend and Assistant Police Chief is involved in finding out who murdered her brother. When Eve's life is threatened Casey sets out to protect her. This suspense book has many intricate and unexpected things happen. A very good mystery with a touch of romance and inward reflection of the characters and their choices.
Eve comes home after her brother’s death . . . and someone shoots at her?!
Ok, I wanted answers.
Her father’s murder is still unsolved. Now her brother is dead, and Eve’s own life is in danger. What is happening to this family? What could she possibly know that makes someone want her silenced?
The mystery was my favorite part of Secrets in Amish Country by Mary Alford. I wanted to know what was behind these deaths and who was so determined to keep the truth buried.
This is her family. She has come home grieving, with painful questions already waiting for her. Now she has to wonder whether she will survive asking them.
Her childhood friend, Casey, is beside her as they investigate, and oh, I loved how protective he was of Eve! With so much around her uncertain, I was glad she had him close.
The mystery and suspense are what I’ll remember most about this one . . . I needed to know what had happened to Eve’s family! Don't you?
I received a digital ARC of this book from JustRead Publicity Tours, LLC. I am not required to write a positive review nor paid to do so. This is my honest and unbiased review. My opinions expressed in this book review are my own.
Secrets in Amish Country starts with gunfire and the action never stops!
Eve Lantz has returned home after her brother’s so called suicide. On the road to home she is shot at by an unknown person. Which makes her question her brothers death even more and with her father’s unsolved murder, hanging over her, Eve is determined to uncover the truth and find out why danger is still surrounding her family. Her childhood friend, Assistant Police Chief Casey Masterson, and her brother's good friend is determined to help her with this dangerous investigation. Casey vows to protect Eve and as they uncover secrets connected to the two cases the more dangerous their search becomes. The killer hidden in the shadows will stop at nothing to keep his secrets hidden and killing Eve looks to be next on his agenda.
Clear your schedule before opening Secrets in Amish Country by Mary Alford—this gripping story is difficult to put down! Another tragedy strikes Eve Lantz’s family, bringing her and Casey Masterson together once again. I enjoyed following the pair as they battled danger, uncovered clues, and fought to keep Eve’s family safe. The action-packed plot delivers plenty of suspense, intriguing twists, and a satisfying conclusion that neatly ties the threads together. Faith is woven naturally throughout the story, with forgiveness at its heart. Even as Eve and Casey dodge bullets and bad guys, sparks fly between them, adding a sweet second-chance romance to the excitement. With danger, faith, and romance on every page, this Amish-country suspense is one thrilling ride!
Another enjoyable read from a very talented suspense author. This one had me turning pages and anxiously awaiting the next twist and turn in the story. I love how many suspense scenes are in here. So many bullets flying and attacks that kept the pacing fast and consistent. It really made for an enjoyable read that you just want to read straight through.
This suspense story is personal. We have family members that need justice for their mysterious deaths and Eve and Casey are the ones that are determined to get to the bottom of it all while a few sparks fly between them along the way.
I love second chances and this story gives us this with Eve and Casey. Mary Alford has such a great way of delivering these suspense stories with faith, redemption and healing mixed in and I love that about her stories. I highly recommend this fast paced story that will have you flipping pages until the very end!
Another good book by this author although I don't usually read Amish. Eve Lantz is returning home to help her mom and niece handle her brother's death. After losing her father years earlier and blaming herself for his death, she leaves her home to work in another Amish community. Her father's death & her brother's death are mighty suspicious as she encounters trouble upon returning home. Someone doesn't want her getting answers to their deaths and what's going on around her community. Assistant Police Chief Casey Masterson grew up with Eve and her brother and vows to keep Eve safe. Eve has to watch her back because someone she thought was a friend might not be. I was given an advance copy of the book by the author, but these are my own thoughts and words.
This book starts when Eve Lantz is returning home to Rachel’s Crossing, Kentucky for her brother’s funeral. Before she makes it home someone tries to kill her, Eve’s childhood friend Assistant Police Chief Casey Masterson vows to keep her safe and to find who and why someone wants to kill her. This book is full of action and suspense! 😁
Eve lost her dad and now her brother. There were Secrets in Amish Country that her family wants answers. When she got home she went to where her brother was killed same place her father was killed. But she didn't expect Casey would be there. While they where there they shot at and Casey told her where to hid. The killer was bound and determined to kill Eve. But Casey was there to protect her and her family. They tried everything but they didn't accomplish it. She was warned by a friend Simon but he was scared and took off. So Eve wanted to go find him but they where to late. Everything they tried they hit a dead end. What did happen to come to the truth? Will things be different between Casey and Eve? Mary wrote this story fantastic and great detail. I recommend this story
This novel grips readers from the beginning and draws them into a suspenseful drama. Two Amish men are dead—father and son, years apart—is there a connection? Eve Lantz comes home to her widowed mother and orphaned niece and to unknown danger. Why would someone seek to kill her? The tension ramps up, and the characters rise to the occasion. This tale encases healing from the past and personal growth, plus a budding love story. It offers an exciting, clean mystery read. I did wonder why if Officer Casey Masterson was grazed by a bullet twice he didn’t need any treatment. Also, why after he shot and killed a man did they not confiscate his gun and relieve him of duty until the investigation was complete? I thought that was standard procedure. Nevertheless, the book offers a good story. I received a copy from the author. All opinions are my own.
Eva Lantz returns home after the death of her brother. One that she didn't believe was a suicide and had her feeling unsettled since her father's murder had remained unsolved for 12 years. Casey Masterson, her childhood Englischer friend, is now Assistant Police Chief and tasked with solving the question of what really happened to her brother Akin. As they traverse the complex terrain that connects both the death of Eva's father and brother, they find old feelings stirring. Feelings that are not only tormented by literal gunfire but also by the fact that they live in two different worlds. A chilling story with a shocking ending, this book will pique the interest of those who enjoy law enforcement heroes that are tough as nails on the outside but full of love and hope on the inside. Those who enjoy strong women who will stop at nothing to protect their family. Or those who like staying up all night reading. Because this one will keep you up.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

I love Mary Alford's books and this one is no exception. Eve and Casey join up to prove her brother and fathers deaths were related and find out who is responsible for their deaths. They are met with gunfire at the site were her brother was found. Thereafter danger follows them every where they go. A riveting suspense with loads of mystery and lots of action, this book will keep you reading into the night just to see what happens next.
Oh my! This was a very exciting book. Eve has come back to Rachel's Crossing after her brother Akin's murder. She had left after blaming herself for her father's murder several years before.
