I love Mary Alford’s romantic suspense set in Amish Country because it always reminds me not to become complacent with familiarity.
One would suppose that because the novel is set in Plain surroundings that the characters have nothing to fear, but Alford shows us the danger in allowing evil to infiltrate and reminds us about the need to daily check our ‘weak spots’ - areas in our defenses that we’ve allowed the enemy a potential foothold. Eve Lantz is shocked to discover that her safe place hid danger and that people she trusted were withholding information.
Alford also showed us the danger in thinking that we’re alone in our experiences. Life didn’t turn out the way Eve expected it to and she was grieving. Unfortunately, she also allowed her anger to come between her and her home. I loved seeing her journey to realizing that God was with her all along.
Reminders I loved: 💜Lean into Him 💜Share your burdens 💜Check your weak spots 💜Find peace with your past 💜Power of forgiveness 💜Beauty of second chances 💜Truth sets us free
This inspirational read is an energy boost for those weary on the journey and a gentle nudge for those who’ve become lackadaisical in checking their boundaries/walls. Mary Alford’s books always seem to find their way into my hands when I need them most.

Eve Lantz is finally returning home to Rachel’s Crossing. She’s carrying some heavy burdens: the news of her brother’s death and the guilt from her father’s death years ago.
Authorities say Akin committed suicid3, but she’s not buying it. And she’s relying on the support of her old friend, Officer Casey Masterson, to get to the truth. Are they prepared for what they might dig up?
A twisted case and a tender romance combine to make this another fan favorite!
