Not a girl. Not a daughter. Not someone meant to be loved.
In Shenandoah, power is inherited, loyalty is bought, and secrets are the only thing more dangerous than blood. Haven has spent her life surviving monsters who taught her how to become one. But when the truth finally comes out, she expects Dominick, Julian, and Sincere to do what everyone else does.
Run.
Instead, they stay.
Her dark princes. Her black knights. Her beautiful nightmares.
They know what she is. They know what Dynasty created. And every secret that should tear them apart only pulls them closer.
But Haven’s life was never meant to be free.
The leaders want the heirs divided. Her uncle and cousin want her back under their thumb. And now that the alphas know the power Haven carries, she has become the one thing no one can ignore.
A threat.
A prize.
A girl worth starting a war over.
Dominick, Julian, and Sincere should let her go before loving her destroys them all.
They won’t.
But when a new power player arrives in Shenandoah demanding Dynasty return what was stolen from them, Haven realizes the truth didn’t set her free. It only made her easier to find.
Survival isn’t for the weak.
And Shenandoah is about to find out what happens when the weapon fights back.
Athena is Book 2 in the Savage Heirs of Shenandoah series. A dark why-choose (MFMM) romance with possessive heirs, dangerous secrets, power games, obsessive love, and a cliffhanger ending. It is recommended that you read Book 1 - Ares before reading this book. This is NOT a shifter or fantasy romance. Characters depicted are 18+
For a great fan of the "Codename : Ares " such as me, this sequel had big shoes to fill. I was fortunate enough to read both books in the same year, and Codename Ares easily earned a spot in my top five reads of the year. So, naturally, I went into Operation Athena with high expectations. I'm delighted to say that the author brought the same energy, intensity, and character complexity that made me fall in love with the first book. Five stars? Absolutely deserved.
First, a little warning: this story doesn't shy away from difficult topics, so please take the trigger warnings seriously before diving in. This isn't necessarily a light, fluffy romance, and I appreciated that the author wasn't afraid to explore the messier, more uncomfortable side of her story.
One of my favourite things about this book is that the story makes you want to pick a side, but the writer makes it a rather complex decision. Just when you think you've figured someone out, another layer is revealed, and suddenly you're questioning your own judgment.
And then there's the romance. Because, of course, we must discuss the romance!
The FMC is a kick-ass heroine who can hold her own, and she has three very dangerous MMCs who would risk it all for their queen.
Codename Ares was one of my favourite reads of the year, and Operation Athena has only strengthened my appreciation for this author's storytelling. If anything, reading both books in the same year has made the experience even more satisfying.
This book had me locked in! I absolutely loved the dynamic growth of these characters, both collectively and individually. Watching them evolve while still maintaining the chaos, loyalty, and intensity that make this series so good? 🔥🔥
Now, Sincere is MY FAVORITE. Period. But Dom and Jules? I love them too! These characters have me emotionally invested, and I need everybody to understand that I am NOT okay after that ending. THE LAST TWO CHAPTERS HAD ME SCREAMING!!! 😭🤯 I was sitting there looking at my book like, “OH, SO WE JUST DOING THIS NOW?!”
Listen, I need Book 3 IMMEDIATELY because if I don’t get some unaliving I’m going to CRASH OUT! 😂🔪
Final verdict: The character development? AMAZING. The drama? UNMATCHED. That ending? STRAIGHT VIOLENCE TO MY EMOTIONS. I need the next book yesterday! ❤️🔥📚
D.D. Lockhart does it again!!!! I adored Codename: Ares, Lockhart's debut novel. Haven and her Alphas are back in book 2, and makes you fall even harder for Haven and her guys.
Haven is a killer for her family mafia-style business-Dynasty but to the outsider, she is an heir. Her uncle struggles even harder this time for control over Haven & Shenandoah. And Haven's rival gang guys, the Wolves, continue to claim Haven as theirs. Her three Alphas have much more at stake in this book, discovering so much more about Haven, her family, their inner workings, and a despicable plot that is not resolved in this book.
Haven's secrets start being known by her guys and they learn how much she can actually protect herself in most areas. Yet claiming her as theirs does mean they protect her at all costs, which could spell the end for many things in their world.
Such an excellent continuation of the Shenandoah story, can't wait for more!
