This is such a fantastic, action packed series. I have flown through each book and have loved every single second of it. I cannot wait for more, especially after yet another cliffhanger👀

The magic, world building and pace is amazing. I love the characters and dragons - especially Azura🐉 I’ve really enjoyed seeing how the romance has progressed throughout each book and I am so excited to find out what happens next!

If you love: a strong FMC, dragons & dragon riders, yearning, a slow burn - this series might just be for you.

A Fire That Refuses to Fade

Mercy of the Dragon by Matt Mememaro is the kind of story that settles deep in your bones and burns there long after the final page. As an EARC reader for this series, I went in already invested—but somehow, this installment still exceeded every expectation. I’m still completely hooked on this world, these characters, and this slow-burning, dragon-laced magic… and I already need more.

This series continues to prove that slow burn, when done right, is utterly irresistible. The tension here is exquisite—drawn out in glances, choices, and the quiet, aching moments that say everything without a word. Nothing feels rushed. Every emotional beat is deliberate, every shift in connection earned, making the payoff all the more powerful.

Mememaro’s world only deepens with each installment. The bond between rider and dragon is explored with even more intensity here—raw, complex, and layered with both trust and danger. It’s not just magical, it’s emotional, almost primal at times, and it gives the story a pulse that never lets up.

The characters continue to be the heart of it all—flawed, driven, and constantly evolving. There’s a weight to their choices, a sense that everything matters, and that nothing comes without consequence. Watching them grow—individually and together—is as compelling as the overarching story itself.

What truly elevates Mercy of the Dragon to a five-star read is its atmosphere. There’s a quiet intensity woven through every chapter—equal parts longing, power, and restraint. It doesn’t need to be loud to be impactful; it lingers in the spaces between, in the emotions left unspoken.

If there’s any frustration to be had, it’s only this: it ends. And it ends with me still desperate for more.

A stunning five-star installment—slow-burning, emotionally charged, and utterly addictive. As an EARC reader, I’m still loving this series… and I’m nowhere near ready to let it go.

(sorry that my review is late matt) :(

Mercy of the Dragon is the fourth book in the Ashbourne Saga and this is hands down my favourite book in the series so far!!!

It picks up right where Book 3 left off, and you can really feel the separation between Ayr and Elanor, and their dragons, Azura and Evor. That longing just leaps off the page. I especially loved that Elanor’s loyalty never wavered, even under pressure. That consistency in her character really stood out to me.

The spice definitely picks up in this one, and I actually really enjoyed how it was handled. The story doesn’t rely on it, it stands strong on its own, but the way it’s woven in captures that tension and connection between Ayr and Elanor so well. It felt well paced and not overdone, which made those moments land even more.

I still have so many questions about Papa Ashbourne. There are times where I feel like he might not be the true enemy… and then he does something that makes me question everything all over again. I don’t know whether to trust my instincts or not, and I kind of love that.

I loved this instalment, the action, the twists, the character dynamics, the dragons, all of it. It just hit really well for me.

Bring on Book 5, because I am absolutely here for it.

I received this book as an ARC, however, this review reflects my honest thoughts and feelings shared voluntarily.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

We are picking right off from the cliffhanger of Desolation of the Dragon - Book 3 in The Ashbourne Saga.

Mercy of the Dragon has so much high action with so much vivid imagery that you will be completely immersed in everything happening. I couldn't read fast enough to keep up with my theories and racing thoughts. Matt delivers so much intense destruction, extreme peril with no way to escape the collapse. "Plummeting toward the ground like falling stars."

There is a new city, new allies and new opportunities. There is a twist that I never saw coming. Not to mention ANOTHER cliffhanger ending that will leave you anxiously awaiting the next installment.

❤️"May your dragon always breathe fire."
❤️"May your wings carry you forward."

Thanks @mattmememaro for the early copy of this book. Send help or send the next book.

Just when we feel like this series cannot get more action packed, Matt bring out Mercy of the Dragon to prove us wrong!

A brilliant continuation of the story so far, we are sent right back to the destruction of the Obelisk where we see the full impact the war so far has had on the Commonwealth. More importantly, we get a small glimpse at what is going on with Dalton as Ayr is back in his company, not quite sure where he stands.

The bond between Ayr and Azura develops further with the threat from Dalton to sever their relationship a constant reminder of what is at stake. There are new bonds that form, sides taken and a twist at the end that was brilliantly placed!

This series has been really enjoyable to read and I can’t wait for the last instalment to see what happens next!

Yet another hit from this author and this amazing series. We start were we left off on the last book and boy those it takes us on an adventure. Elanor, Evor, Ayr and Azura have been separated by Dalton and have been task with things they aren't comfortable doing but if they don't they will not see the light of day. The romance we have seen unfold throught this series, in this book it gets stronger and even better not only for the our riders but also for out favorite dragons. I was so excited to get this and it Did Not Disappoint. I will give this series 6 ⭐️ always !!!! cant eait for the next one. I am sure it will be so worth it!

"May your wings carry you forward."

Wow. This series never slows down. And I am here for it. The dragons are powerful. The connections are mighty. The story is breathtaking. The ease of being able to visualize the heart of these characters makes this read and this series epic. I couldn't put it down. And I can't wait for the next.

The twist and cliffhanger are in pure Mememaro fashion. And leaves you staring at the page. Knowing it's over, but hoping more words will appear.

I am very appreciative that I got to read Mercy of the Dragon, as an eARC, and I am voluntarily leaving a review.

A fast paced book 4. Dragons, war and battles, destruction, strained relationships, intrigue.
New and old characters emerging and disappearing.
Another cliffhanger ending.
What’s not to like, and where will the story end up next?

Another good one from Matt. This series is very similar to fourth wing, but very different at the same time. I’m excited for the final book in this series. This book did not disappoint.
