3 Writing What You Know Stars * * *

I think all authors at one time or another have been given the advice to "write what you know"...it is something universal. Jen McLaughlin has taken that adage and run with it for her 5th installment of this series. I say that because our main character Noelle is a Erotic Romance writer attending a writers convention for authors, bloggers and reviewers. Yes, we are in her element so in that sense it is art intimidating life. We are given details from an author's perspective; the excitement of landing a big agent for the first time, the discussion about being approved for a new series... we are sitting up on the dais side of the audience being the author asked the questions and experiencing possible flop sweat. There is debate as to whether the person actually knew what they were talking about during a seminar of BSDM and then the ever tricky workshop on writing sex scenes. There even was the acknowledgement of authors fangirling other authors at these things.

Everything I mentioned are the surrounding details to this story... they added so much like just the frame to an artwork... where its presentation makes all the difference. Because with these elements I could somehow relate to place settings and activities, the community of bloggers and readers and understand the atmosphere of how these two main characters came together.

Noelle has been dealt a life most would have been crushed by... a family whose actions have destroyed any way to live peacefully where she was raised. She pulled herself together; she created a new life in NYC and with her high school sweetheart was having her personal HEA... they were finally married and ready to ride off into the sunset...Yet that was not what she received. Instead she was dealt another blow and lost him forever. Now she lives her life through writing these books, remaining best friend/sister in law with Emily and meeting deadlines. It has been a year and a half since her husband's passing... and moving on is very, very hard.

Noelle and Emily are attending this convention in San Diego. It is held at a hotel with a massive lobby which doubles as a bar. There are gaggles of women... some male cover models.... with everyone unwinding down from the first day at the event. Both are just having some wine and Emily is suggesting to Noelle to break out of her mourning... they both loved her husband... he was Emily's brother, after all... but until Noelle moves on... both are stuck holding on to the pain. During this conversation they both notice a man at the bar who is OUTSTANDING in every way...they think he may be a cover model...but not one only shot from the neck down...because he has all the good; face, hair and a commanding presence. The joke is he is oblivious to everything going on around him...and he is drinking... seriously drinking. The gals chat some more and Noelle decides a hotel room with tv is what is calling to her.

The man the women saw was Riley. He is at the hotel bar because his controlled world has just hit a major bump. The handsome intelligent man has been manipulated from birth. Born into a family of politics, he has done what has always been asked or ordained. His father is a senator with political ambitions for VP. Riley is an attorney because it was expected; he has been tied to a woman he doesn't love because a marriage was expected. He obeyed because of his love of family and his belief in his inability to love or receive love. He never treated his soon to be partner in marriage disrespectfully; he cared for her and was faithful. Unfortunately, she was not.... her ass was in the air getting it from her ex lover on Riley's couch tonight when he walked in unexpectedly. The shocker to him was how upset he was with the naked guy on his couch instead of in his fiance. After stating the arrangement is over... he is at this bar drinking to forget.

He is tired of doing everything everyone wants of him. He is tired of being safe and planned. He is longing to be the man he once was before taking on the mantle of the firm and all of those responsibilities. He just want's to forget it all and check into the hotel for the night.

What happens next is the meeting of these two people at a specific juncture of their lives... Noelle is getting into the elevator and Riley stops her...asking if she is checking out so he could use her room for the night. There are no available rooms due to some conventions he drunkenly tells her looking deeply into her eyes...He starts to explain how he has no home to go to.. with Noelle cautiously asking probing questions...He is polite, gentlemanly and sweet... Noelle is sensing he is a lost soul and would do her no harm... she is shocked by her next action... she allows him to share her room... as it does have two beds. They are careful together but the undercurrent is electric... he is so aware of her... every movement a symphony of beauty... her curves send shock waves to him... her chest is something to sink his face into and never leave... she is woman, everything he has every wanted but could never explore...But he is fighting all of this as much as he wants her... because he would never be that drunken fool.

He is not the only one who is attracted though... Noelle is pulled to him as well... she has had only her husband... and this sweet man is looking at her with such admiration... as if she is a goddess... somehow the two of them end up bumping into each other while settling into the room. She decides to make him more comfortable to sleep as he is talking about the room spinning.... as she takes off his jacket and tie... they are so close...Noelle starts to unbutton his collar and then shirt ...and then they just kiss...these two connect... and it is a first step to freedom for both of them.

This story had a lot going for it yet there were some things which had me a little confused at times. I appreciated the timing for these two so their rush to romance was the setting... and the romantic interactions.... let's just say Ms. McLaughlin must be teaching all those workshops in how to write sex scenes .....What was hard for me was how clueless Noelle was about Riley's background and how she never talked to him about her difficult parental past. What was more annoying for me was Riley and the way he handled the important stuff... he made decisions without doing things a normal person would do, let alone an attorney even when wanting to be free and impulsive.

The focus of this tale was to take that chance ... to go outside of your predictable comfort zone... because you never know what wonderful life changing experiences you may have. This was true to this tale and we all know Romance stories never lead us astray.

This was a great quickie! This is Riley's story, if you have read the first 4 in this series you will know that he is the best friend of Carrie & Finn. I have only read book 1 but the blurb sounded good so I thought I'd give it a go. It can be read as a stand-alone.

Riley finds his fiancée and a naked man on his couch, he soon realises that he is more worried about his couch than the fact that he has been cheated on and promptly goes to a local hotel to get drunk. It is here he meets Noelle, a romance author who is there attending a writers convention.

Noelle is a widow who is finding it hard to move on but when she meets a slightly tipsy Riley she thinks he is adorable.

This was definitely a case of inst-love but it worked if a little cheesy and predictable.

Blurred Lines by Jen McLaughlin was one sweet and sexy read. In this short book, Ms. McLaughlin was able to showcase the lines of love, passion, desire, bond, and connections that begins to get blurred. These new feelings begins to get blurred when two strangers embark on a relationship of instant connection. And when these two feel that spark there is no stopping a love that makes you feel alive and free.



Riley has always lived and followed the rules. He lived a life that was about order and doing what was expected of him so when he finds his fiance in bed with another man, he finally decides enough is enough. It is time for him to make a change. So when he finds himself meeting a young beautiful woman, Riley embarks on a new whirlwind relationship with Noelle. Practically strangers, but there is something about Noelle that makes Riley free and alive. And for the first time in his life, he knows that this new feelings he begins to feel is indeed love. Love can make you do crazy things and for Riley, it made him see that you can indeed fall in love fast and know a person is the "one." And as for Noelle, she thought she couldn’t find another love like she had with her deceased husband but fate and second chances of love were meant to be written for this romance author. Will Noelle be able to have the happily ever after ending like she has written in her books? Or will this whirlwind affair be classified as just a weekend fling?



If you are a big fan of the Out of Line Series, like myself, then you must know how excited I was to find out that Blurred Lines was Riley’s book. Blurred Lines was one of those books that was a fast read that made you believe in fate, second chances and to just live in the moment. Life is too short and so if you find yourself taking a chance at love then take it and don’t let it slip it away. Life is about living for yourself and doing what makes you happy and not for others. I love that Ms. McLaughlin was able to drive this message home to her readers. Blurred Lines was another great read added to this series.

Blurred Lines by Jen McLaughlin is the fifth installment of the Out of Line Series. I absolutely loved the opener of this book. Riley Stapleton is the only child of a senator. He's in his 30s, a successful lawyer, and engaged to be married. Riley pulls up to his house and he knows his fiancee Sarah is inside with another man on his custom couch after they just mailed out their wedding invites. Riley is furious but resigned. He thought Sarah was a safe choice..clearly not. They were set up by Riley's mother and their families were socially similar. He didn't love Sarah but was hoping it would grow in time. He's bummed out that his planned life has been destroyed, leaves his house, and heads to a bar.

Enter Noelle Brandt. Noelle is an erotic romance author visiting San Diego for a writer's conference and can't take her eyes off the sexy man (Riley) pounding whiskey at the bar. Noelle's backstory is beyond sad and downright traumatic...most recently she lost the love of her life. Noelle finds the sloppy-drunk Riley lingering by the elevator. They start up a conversation and Noelle learns that he can't book a room--the hotel is full. Well, she invites Riley to sleep on the empty bed in her room, rather than have him crash in his car. This behavior completely being out of the ordinary for Noelle but she feels like Riley is safe. Not sure how smart this move is but hey, I am reading a romance novel.

They both swear that nothing's going to happen when they get back to the room. They are both a bit drunk and begin to share some intimate details about each other....one thing leads to another and they end up in bed. Without ruining what happens, Riley does the unthinkable and Noelle is enraged. The banter between the two is absolutely comical.


had what was probably the best two chapter introductions from any book that this reader has read. This book has the most sizzling smexy scenes - By. Far. And the sweetest, smexiest, devilish characters you could ever want to read about!

You could be forgiven for getting absolutely and totally absorbed in this book from the first page. This reader sympathises. ;) Right from the beginning chapter the drama, tension and shenanigans of Riley's chaotic introduction were just laugh out loud, heartbreakingly brilliantly written. Add to the mix Noelle and their first meeting and succeeding interludes and dramas has Blurred Lines being just off the charts astounding reading!

Their hookups are sizzling, their attraction undeniable and seeminly genuine. Both of these characters are easy to love and you understand where both are coming from. The drama that unfolds hooks you in to the end.

I haven't met a Jen McLaughlin book I haven't enjoyed. This one hit the spot.

Blurred Lines is the fifth book in the Out of Line series, and is one that I somehow skipped, and found myself jumping straight into book 5.5 when I received it for review. After realising my mistake it was too late to stop reading and go back, so Blurred Lines just sat and waited to be read. This one was a book I did initially struggle to read, I think because the previous books I already had a connection with the characters, so going into this was like starting a new series. Once I was a few chapters into the book that was when I became invested in the characters. There were moment in the book that I thought the characters were crazy, that they jumped into things far too fast and it was far too rushed, only really learning about the other person after everything was said and done, which obviously revealed family secrets and drama. I did enjoy reading Blurred Lines, and by the end of the book I did like the characters, but for me personally the characters relationship was very rushed and hurried.

Ultimo libro della saga Out of Line in cui abbiamo modo di conoscere meglio il bel Riley, ormai adulto.
Nonostante i protagonisti non siano i nostri Finn e Carrie, Riley e Noelle catturano il lettore.
Riley, ora trentenne, è diventato avvocato ma è rimasto assolutamente lo stesso che avevamo conosciuto quasi otto anni prima.
Non è istintivo né si lascia prendere dai fronzoli della vita, insomma è ciò che si dice un uomo tutto d'un pezzo, ma quando rincasa dopo una giornata di lavoro e trova la sua fidanzata a letto con il suo ex è più preoccupato del fatto che fossero sul suo divano che non del fatto di per sé.
Convinto di non essere capace di amare, che cosa si fa in questi momenti? Semplice, si affogano i dispiaceri nell'alcool - come sempre - e galeotto fu l'incontro con questa donna dal passato travagliato.
Noelle, infatti, è una scrittrice di romanzi erotici che si trova a San Diego per un convegno di autori. Non riesce a smettere di fissarlo, ma quando lui fa il suo primo vero colpo di testa entrambi sanno che quell'incontro cambierà la loro vita per sempre.
Entrambi sono legati a un passato che non riescono a superare, Riley è ancora troppo innamorato di Carrie per riuscire a oltrepassare questo scoglio all'apparenza insormontabile e Noelle è ancora troppo scossa dal suo passato. I segreti che custodisce segretamente sono ciò che più la fanno rintanare in se stessa, ma anche Riley per una volta desidera essere se stesso e non il figlio di un senatore candidato alla vice presidenza.
I due si troveranno come due metà a formare un intero, desiderosi entrambi di lasciarsi alle spalle i propri demoni.
Nonostante appunto non siano come la nostra coppia principale ricchi di verve e spirito, il libro mi ha fatto sorridere. Si legge tranquillamente anche se alcuni potrebbero giudicarlo inutile.

Blurred Lines is a hauntingly spell-binding and profoundly passionate love story that once it takes root in your heart, you will never think of love the same way again. There is something to be said for living your life as if there is no tomorrow. While some may view it as impetuous or foolish, I see it as bravely taking hold of your life and capturing the blessings that would we otherwise turn away from or not even see in the first place. What would our life look like if we would truly and courageously follow our heart especially in those times when our head would have us run screaming in the opposite direction? Do we dare to even think those thoughts much less act upon them? Are you willing to allow unknown wonders and untold treasures to slip from your fingers out of fear, or will you allow yourself to experience the best that life has to offer you with no reservations? Ultimately, we must decide if we will fight for what we want, or if we will be content to let others dictate what is best for us.

Noelle has had her one great love and now she has resigned herself to just existing. She lost her husband to a horrible accident, and she doesn’t believe she deserves to feel love ever again. After all, how can you find more than one soul-mate in this life? Be sheer force of will, she continues to push herself to put one foot in front of the other living entirely for her career. Just when her life has reached a level of contentment that she is happy with, she finds herself thrown into a whirlwind of unanticipated emotions and life-altering surprises. Riley thought his life was finally headed in the right direction until he found it suddenly derailed. Frustrated with the overwhelming need to feel something real for once in his life, he does something completely out of character and in so doing, he finds the one woman who makes him come alive. With her, he is finally the man that he has desperately longed to be, and he has no intention of giving her up even if it kills him. In her heart, Noelle has no doubt that she and Riley are beyond perfect for each other, but it’s the annoying reminders from her head that put her relationship with Riley at its greatest risk. This story took hold of my heart from the very beginning and worked its transforming magic on it. I felt and experienced everything that these incredible characters went through. There was nothing that they felt that wasn’t mirrored within my own soul. Their desperate and intense inner battle had me pulling my own hair out because I could see myself following in their same footsteps. Everything about this journey called to me, and I couldn’t get enough of the beautiful and cautious Noelle who was completely in love with the confident and vulnerable Riley. They fought their feelings so hard, but in the end neither could deny what they had come to mean to the other. Love is simple and magnificent, but others make it difficult and frustrating. The key is to figure out who to listen to and who to set straight.

This is the first book that I have read by Jen McLaughlin, and she has without a doubt stolen my heart with her absolutely unbelievable gift with words! She has lovingly molded and shaped a breathtaking and unconventional love that stands out like a beacon of light in the dark and weary storm of life. We should all heed these precious words and not allow anyone to steal our life, our hope, and our dreams from us no matter who they are. What is life worth if it is not filled with a blazing passion and an unquenchable joy?

I am such a HUGE fan of the Out of Line Series. With that being said, I fell in love with this book from page one. Even though this story does not revolve around Carrie and Finn, I still over every second of it (and the fact that they made appearances in this book made me giddy).

Riley finally gets his own story, and what a story it is! We are down the road a bit. Riley is making his way in the world. Still the good guy doing what his parents want from him. He has a good career and marrying the girl whom his parents think is perfect for his image. Then everything changes in a blink of an eye when Riley walks into to him home and finds his fiancee with her ex..... on the couch... naked. This sets off a domino effect of things that help change Riley's boring and bland life to something better and happier for him. If was like the chains of his boring life have been served and now he can live outside of the box.

When Riley is drowning his sorrows in a hotel bar (he has nowhere else to go, his ex is in their home), he meets Noelle. Noelle is a famous romance author who is at the hotel for a convention. She notices Riley, I mean who didn't??? He is hot and drunk. When fate intervenes and she finds herself in the elevator with a very drunk and very sad Riley, she has to help him out. He is too much of a mess not too.

But there is something there. Call it a spark or call it fate, call it what you want, but there is more to Noelle and Riley that just a one night fling. Then can both see and feel it. But, they are both bad at the whole "dating" thing. Noelle has a past that includes a tragedy. She is still on the mend when she meets Riley. He is the first man who she feel something for in a long time. Riley has never been in love. He is not even sure he is capable of those feelings. When Noelle sparks something inside of him, he is not sure whether or not to embrace it or run from it.

This story was a refreshing breath of fresh air from the stale stories I have read recently. I found myself laughing out loud by some of the crazy situations that happened in this book. It was so crazy, that it was hysterically funny (you will know what I am talking about when you read it).

I always saw Riley as a side character. Nothing more than a background guy. This book will make you see him in a whole new light. I never realized how deep his feelings were for Carrie. After reading this, you feel for him a whole lot more. In the other books of this series, I kind of didn't like him. Now, I LOVE him. I think Jen did an incredible job with this storyline.

Blurred Lines follows the story of Riley and Noelle. Riley has spent his entire life doing what was always expected of him. Even being engaged to someone he doesn't love. However the last thing that he expects is to walk in on his fiancee having sex with her ex on their couch! Most people would be devastated, but for Riley, it doesn't even bother him. One fateful night, Riley meets Noelle at a hotel bar. He knew from the moment he saw her that he had to meet her.....

Noelle lost the love of her life tragically and though that she'd never find happiness again. But one chance encounter with Riley and all of the sudden she has hope again. He makes her laugh, feel and remember what it is to be alive. Things are moving so fast, that she can't believe that what they have is real. It just seems to good to be true. With Riley's convincing, she finally decides to give love another go....that is until some truths come out. When Noelle finds out who Riley is, will she be able to look past it? And Riley wasn't the only one keeping something a secret? When all the truths come out, will they be able to salvage their relationship or will the mistakes take over their lives?

Blurred Lines is a very quick and enjoyable read! I adored Riley from the moment his character was introduced. I loved that he wanted to try to be himself and was tired of always doing what his family expected of him. Riley is no way perfect and made some very hilarious mistakes in his relationship with Noelle. One of my favorite moments was when Riley told Finn about him walking in on his fiancee with another man. He wasn't really mad that she was with someone else, he was pissed that they were doing it on his couch! I must have laughed for a good 5 min over that. There were also a lot of other priceless moments, but you're going to have to read the book for yourself to find what I'm talking about.

Overall, I found this to be a really enjoyable read. No one does angst and romance quite like Jen McLaughlin does. Blurred Lines does move at a quicker pace than the other books in the Out of Line series, just to give you a heads up. This story was a lot of fun. I laughed, shook my head and swooned. I loved the family drama and was definitely kept entertained. I am a big fan of the Out of Line series and I think Blurred Lines was a great addition to it.

Una nuova appassionante storia dalla penna di Jen McLaughlin, che abbiamo imparato ad amare grazie alla storia di Carrie e Finn, nella serie Out of Line. Questo è il capitolo numero cinque e riprende la storia di Riley, il migliore amico di Carrie e suo vecchio pretendente ai tempi dell'università.
Pur facendo parte della serie, può essere letto come autoconclusivo, anche se rischiate di ritrovare un pò di spoiler sull' epilogo della storia d'amore della Rossa e del suo soldato Finn.
Riley Stampleton è un avvocato di successo, membro integerrimo della comunità e figlio devoto di una famiglia importante e impegnata politicamente. Il padre infatti, potrebbe essere il futuro vicepresidente degli Stati Uniti, e questo ha ovvie ripercussioni sulla sua vita.
Fidanzato con una donna perfetta, in grado di accompagnarlo e sostenerlo nella futura vita professionale e politica, l'ultima cosa che si aspetta, è di trovare quella perfetta fidanzata, sul suo divano, nuda, in una situazione intima con un altro uomo.

Quella stessa sera, al bar di un albergo, quasi completamente ubriaco, nota una donna che lo lascia senza fiato.
Noelle Brandt è un'autrice di romanzi erotici e si trova ad una convention di autrici, quando un uomo bello come il peccato, posa gli occhi su di lei. Intenta a tagliare la corda, sta per rientrare in camera, quando quello sconosciuto, decisamente alticcio, la raggiunge davanti agli ascensori, raccontandole la storia più tenera e dolorosa che abbia mai sentito.

Jen McLaughlin ci sorprende con una storia completamente diversa dalla precedente. Le caratterizzazioni dei personaggi la rendono unica ed emozionante.
Estremamente romantica e passionale la storia d'amore tra Riley e Noelle mi ha fatto vivere dei momenti di piacevole tormento e delizioso pathos.
Riley è un uomo fragile, dal carattere accondiscendente che siamo soliti ritrovare nei personaggi femminili. Questa inversione dei ruoli, secondo me è il punto di forza di Non vivo più senza te.
A volte ho detestato la sudditanza psicologica di Riley a tutta una serie di doveri imposti dalla sua famiglia. Lui ha imparato a recitare un ruolo, inquadrato in uno schema preciso, dove non c'è spazio per gli errori. Si lascia trascinare dalla corrente come un pezzo di legno inerme, convinto che lui non sia in grado di amare, che l'amore non esista ma sia piuttosto una fredda transazione tra due persone, all'interno della quale si offre sostegno e protezione, soprattutto economico.
Ha creduto di amare delle donne in passato, ma da quando Carrie e Finn stanno insieme ha capito cosa significa possedere il dono del vero amore, e che per lui non ci sarà mai una possibilità del genere.



"Per qualche ragione, mi venne in mente Riley. Poteva essere il mio lieto fine? Scossi la testa. Certo che no. Era un’avventura. Viveva qui, e io dall’altra parte del Paese. E soprattutto, non avevamo mai evocato la possibilità che fra noi potesse esserci qualcosa di più.Mi piaceva perché mi faceva sentire viva… Mi aveva fatto dimenticare, anche se solo per un attimo, chi ero e che cosa avevo perso."



A sconvolgere i preimpostati equilibri di Riley arriva Noelle, con la sua fresca spontaneità, il viso angelico e lo sguardo di chi ha perso tutto, ma non si è arreso. Così diversa dalle donne che solito è abituato a frequentare, con cui la madre tenta di sistemarlo, Riley non si rende conto subito che non è solo la passione a legarli. Con lei si sente libero di essere se stesso, coraggioso, impavido come si era proposto di essere negli anni di università, quando insieme a Carrie, si riprometteva di non lasciarsi piegare dal volere dei genitori.
Anche Noelle ha un passato difficile. La vita le ha assestato un paio di sinistri che avrebbero messo in ginocchio chiunque, e invece lei si è fatta forza, è andata avanti e adesso non riesce a credere che Riley, così bello e sofisticato sia interessato a una donna mediocre come lei.
Un sogno ad occhi aperti che forse potrebbe trasformarsi in realtà, se Riley cacciasse fuori gli attributi.
Se come me credete alle favole, se pensate che l'amore vince sempre anche quando tutti gli indizi sembrano dire il contrario, non perdetevi Non vivo più senza te.
Un ultimo appello lo faccio a Newton Compton, con la speranza che continui a pubblicare altri lavori di Jen McLaughlin.

This was meh... ok, I guess. I wasn't too keen on Riley, found him too wishy washy in his decision making. For with how short the book was, the protags annoyed me to some extent, not to mention the fact that thsi book dealt with one of my hated taboo subjects. After a bit I wanted to stop reading but I plodded through.

Tra pochi giorni esce il cartaceo di "Non vivo più senza te", l'ultimo volume della serie "Out Of Line" di Jen McLaughlin uscito in eBook a marzo, ma che io a quanto pare mi ero persa. Così, decisa a recuperare, mi sono totalmente tuffata in questa nuova avventura che racconta la storia d'amore di Riley, il migliore amico di Carrie e Finn, protagonisti dei romanzi precedenti. Riley, figlio di senatori, da un po' di anni ormai tende ad accontentare i suoi genitori in tutto. Anche nell'amore e nel lavoro. Così, invece di fare lo scrittore, diventa avvocato. E così, invece di trovare l'amore, si accontenta di sposare la donna che sua madre ha scelto per lui. Ma quando una sera torna a casa dal lavoro e trova la sua futura mogliettina in ginocchio tra le gambe di un altro, capisce che così facendo non troverà mai l'amore vero che merita. Certo non aveva messo in conto l'incontro straordinario che lo aspettava a poche ore dal tradimento, perche quella stessa sera, ubriaco lercio, Riley troverà l'amore. Infatti, in una sala piena di scrittrici e blogger, Riley incontra Noelle, una scrittrice di erotici che gli cambierà la vita. Dopo quell'incontro in lui si accende una luce nuova,

una nuova certezza che gli farà capire che Noelle è tutto quello di cui ha bisogno. Insieme passano una notte fantastica, libera e selvaggia, e imparano in poco tempo ad apprezzare l'altro. Lei insegnerà lui a combattere per le sue idee e lui le insegnerà ad amare se stessa. Ma i loro mondi sono così lontani, così diversi. Saranno capaci di far funzionare le cose? E infine, saranno capaci di trovare un compromesso? Questo lo potete scoprire solo leggendo questo simpatico romanzo erotico che mi ha regalato un pomeriggio alquanto bizzarro. Mi aspettavo un romanzo molto diverso, ma non ne sono rimasta delusa, anzi ho trovato questa storia molto originale e, seppur breve, molto interessante. Certo, nulla di paragonabile ai romanzi che la precedono, ma ogni personaggio ha una storia a sé e questa è la storia di Riley. Riley, che è un personaggio che avevamo già incontrato e che sicuramente mi aveva già affascinato, in questo suo capitolo mi ha fatto proprio innamorare. Ho adorato la sua impulsività e i suoi discorsi ambigui. E ho adorato ancora di più Noelle e la sua anima nobile. Ma la cosa che più mi ha affascinato è il rapporto che l'autrice fa nascere tra i due: passionale e libero, pieno di spensieratezza. Peccato, però, che la vita ha piani diversi per loro e che certi vizi sono difficili da togliere. Riley, infatti, andrà molto vicino al rovinare ogni cosa, fortuna però che Noelle sembra decisa a fargli vivere il loro lieto fine e a fargli capire che ognuno di noi merita l'amore vero. Insomma lettrici, una lettura senz'altro piacevole, raccontata a pov alterni, che merita di essere letta perché regala qualche attimo di spensieratezza e una voglia smisurata di libertà.

C’era una volta, in un Paese molto molto lontano, una giovane donna disillusa dalla vita ma che credeva ancora nella forza del sogno e nel bisogno di lottare per il proprio lieto fine. Così quando la vita la prende ulteriormente a calci crede che la sua vita non abbia più alcuno scopo. Finché una sera, complice un ballo, incontra quello che sarà il suo principe azzurro e per lei la favola ha finalmente inizio.
Non vivo più senza di te è proprio questo: una revisione moderna ed erotica di una delle storie più vecchie del mondo: quella di Cenerentola. L’amore che lega Riley e Noelle è un amore da favola. Basta solo una notte e i due si riconoscono, si spogliano di tutte le difese e si amano, dimostrando a tutti noi come il lieto fine si può trovare nei posti più impensati.

Dopo aver letto dell’amore assoluto e disarmante di Carrie e del suo Finn, finalmente è il turno di Riley di essere felice. Ma Riley è molto diverso dai nostri due precedenti protagonisti. Non è selvaggio come Carrie e non è istintivo come Finn, ma è un uomo di trent’anni che sa bene dove lo porterà la vita: sulla retta via. Non è per Riley desiderare. Non è per Riley volere quello che non deve volere. Così quando torna a casa dopo una stressante giornata di lavoro e trova la sua fidanzata a letto con un altro uomo non riesce a credere a quello che ha davanti agli occhi. Sarah, la donna che sua madre ha scelto come sua compagnia con tanta cura, non è così perfetta per lui come credeva.
Eppure non prova amore per lei. Non si sente tradito da lei. Semplicemente perché Riley non ama. Mai. E questa è una verità che lo consuma di giorno in giorno. Riley è un uomo buono, dolce, gentile, disponibile, eppure sa perfettamente che non è in grado di amare nessuno, non come Finn ama la sua Carrie.
Lascia così una fidanzata di cui non gli è mai importato e si reca nel primo hotel disponibile in cerca di una camera per la notte. Quello che non si aspetta però è proprio sotto i suoi occhi. La bellissima Noelle Brandt, una scrittrice di romanzi erotici di successo, si trova in quel hotel per un convegno di scrittori e non si spiega perché non riesca a non fissare il sexy e misterioso uomo che beve da solo e che sembra così infelice.
Le loro strade potevano non incrociarsi mai, invece basta un attimo, uno sguardo, e i due si riscoprono due metà di un intero. Così, quando Riley si presenta ubriaco e senza una stanza di fronte a Noelle, per lei è impossibile non aiutarlo e lo invita a dormire nella sua stanza. Ma l’eccitazione è nell’aria e la voglia di appartenere a qualcuno, anche solo per un momento, è troppo forte per entrambi e perdersi nelle braccia dell’altro è un attimo. Non ci resta che scoprire se Riley e Noelle vivranno questa favola moderna o si sveglieranno di colpo accettando una realtà piatta e infelice, l’uno senza l’altro.
Noelle è una donna profondamente ferita dal suo passato. Ha dei segreti che custodisce gelosamente e che non vuole condividere con nessuno. E’ convinta che il lieto fine esista solo nei suoi romanzi e che l’amore non farà più parte della sua vita, finchè Riley non orbita nel suo mondo e la sconvolge pienamente, mettendo in ombra tutte le sue certezze.
Riley è un uomo quadrato. Per ogni azione pondera le sue scelte. La lista dei pro e dei contro domina la sua vita, ma tutto vola via dalla finestra non appena conosce Noelle. Lei è una ventata d’aria fresca. E’ splendida, dolce e bella –dentro e fuori. Inizia a capire che per tutta la vita ha sempre inseguito i desideri di altri e che finalmente è arrivato anche il suo momento di essere felice. Continua su CrazyForRomance

Un libro veramente inutile, brutto ed assurdo!
Riley e Noelle non sono Finn e Carrie e si sente lontano un miglio!

La storia è piatta, prevedibile e noiosa!
I personaggi sono banali, stucchevoli e melensi.

Riley ha sempre fatto quello che vuole la mammina (tralasciamo che ha ormai 31 anni...) e poi improvvisamente vede questa tizia qui, se la fa e decide che lei è la donna della sua vita!?! In una manciata di ore!
Ok il colpo di fulmine, ma qui stiamo esagerando!
Perchè io non ho mica colto perchè Noelle è la sua donna ideale: a parte dire un sacco di volte che lei gli piace altro non si sa.
Ma Riley cosa combina? Addirittura le chiede di sposarlo? Ma no dai...
E questo non è la cosa peggiore, no, purtroppo no.
Sapete quando Riley glielo chiede?
No?
Mentre lei gli sta facendo un pompino!
Che eleganza, signori...
Anche Noelle non è un gran personaggio. Rompe tanto col fatto che è vedova, ha un brutto passato, gnè gnè gnè... E poi pure lei in 3 secondi accetta di sposare uno sconsciuto.
Ma si dai...
La scena con la madre di Riley è davvero patetica e tutta la risoluzione dei drammi avviene in 2 righe...

Questa serie doveva fermarsi già 2 libri fa...
Perciò 2 stelline, 1 regalata solo perchè ogni tanto compare Finn, stop.

Blurred Lines si può considerare una sorta di spinoff della famosa serie Out of Line.
Riley, il protagonista, l'abbiamo già incontrato proprio nel primo romanzo di questa serie, l'amico del college di Carrie che ha reso Finn un pò geloso, ve lo ricordate?
Bene, dopo aver lasciato che la ragazza di cui si era innamorato, sposasse l'uomo della sua vita, tocca a lui trovare la donna giusta.
Riley, è un'avvocato, la sua famiglia è più che benestante e il padre diventerà il futuro vicepresidente. Non c'è posto per i propri desideri, la sua vita viene costantemente messa sotto un microscopio dove ogni scelta deve essere analizzata da mille prospettive diverse. Non è importante se a lui non piace fare l'avvocato, se non è innamorato della fidanzata che la madre ha scelto, Riley fa quello che gli altri si aspettano che faccia. No spontaneità, no libertà di essere se stesso. Solo imposizione e tanta tanta solitudine.
Quando una sera torna a casa e trova i vestiti della sua fidanzata e quelli di qualcun altro sparsi per casa, qualcosa scatta. Il fatto che si fosse più arrabbiato, non per la vista di due corpi avvinghiati, di cui uno era quello della sua futura moglie, ma perché lo stessero facendo sul suo divano, gli fa finalmente aprire gli occhi.
Questo vi da un'idea del tipo di relazione che li legava. Si trattava di un rapporto privo di amore reciproco, tutto era calcolato, si sarebbero presi cura di entrambi senza la paura di essere feriti. Nonostante Riley non fosse innamorato di Sara, non l'avrebbe mai tradita.
Stanco di fare sempre la cosa giusta, decide di andarsene da casa sua, rompere il fidanzamento e provare a ricominciare daccapo. La rinascita incomincia con una bella sbronza di whisky , un albergo in San Diego e una scrittrice di libri romance, in città per una conferenza.

Il loro primo incontro, piuttosto stravagante, avviene in un ascensore. Riley, visibilmente ubriaco, racconta a Noelle, la scrittrice, le sue recenti disavventure amorose e il suo attuale stato di vagabondaggio. Non avendo un posto dove trascorrere la notte, chiede a Noelle asilo in camera sua. Di norma, Noelle, schiva e associale, non avrebbe mai fatto entrare un estraneo in camera. Ma la giovane donna, vede negli occhi verdi dell'uomo di fronte a se, una persona persa ed infelice, bisognosa di un' amica che gli possa donare conforto e una spalla su cui piangere. Riley però non ha nessuna voglia di piangere, non è distrutto per la rottura del suo fidanzamento ma dalla consapevolezza che mai troverà l'amore. Si sente condannato ad una vita in solitaria, nessuno al suo fianco a condividerla.

Noelle non vuole sedurlo. Riley non vuole approfittare della sua disponibilità. Ma il bacio è inevitabile come del resto quello che generalmente ne consegue tra adulti consenzienti.
Dopo il loro primo incontro e la loro prima notte, per entrambi è difficile stare lontani. Consapevoli che la loro storia avrà durata fino a quando Noelle resterà in città, cercano di sfruttare al massimo ogni secondo. Proposte di matrimonio improvvise, colgono la nostra protagonista alla sprovvista. Come può Riley chiedere di sposarla conoscendola da nemmeno 15 giorni? La famiglia di lui non approverebbe mai. Cosa succederebbe se scoprissero il segreto della famiglia di Noelle?

Riley non sa gestire la gioia e la freschezza che Noelle porta nella sua vita. Era convinto che mai avrebbe potuto amare un'altra donna oltre a Carrie. Ma si sbagliava di grosso, Noelle è una sferzata di aria fresca, lei riesce a fargli provare cosa significa essere spontanei e liberi ma sopratutto innamorati. Un sentimento che una volta scoperto gli permetterà di fare il gesto spontaneo per eccellenza: la proposta di matrimonio. Ma questo nuovo Riley, quanto è forte? Lo è abbastanza da non farsi nuovamente sottomettere dalle imposizioni familiari?

Noelle, è una giovane vedova, ha rimesso in piedi la sua vita creandosi un nome scrivendo libri romance. Non parla volentieri della sua famiglia, per lei è come se fossero morti ma la verità è che non lo sono e hanno condizionato la sua vita in modo tale da obbligarla a trasferirsi dalla sua città e provare ad ogni costo a dimenticare di averne mai avuta una. Conosciuto Riley, però, dovrà farci i conti, anche sull'attaccamento che ancora prova per un uomo che ormai non c'è più. Riuscirà Noelle a combattere con i suoi demoni in favore di una vita felice, spontanea e ricca di amore?

Questa scrittrice, continua a sfornare romanzi su romanzi, serie su serie e non ho mai letto qualcosa che non fosse al di sopra della media.
Lei, come per tante altre, è stata una scoperta casuale, girovagando su siti come goodreads . Dopo aver letto Out of Line, non mi è stato più possibile non seguirla e leggere ogni sua pubblicazione. Mi congratulo con la Newton Compton Editori per aver fiutato il suo talento ed aver pubblicato questa scrittrice. Mi auguro solo che non diventi parte del cimitero delle serie interrotte che sembrano popolare le librerie italiane.
Il suo stile è facile da seguire e molto incalzante perché ricco di dialoghi e battute divertenti.
Il doppio POV, sempre utile, ci da un quadro a 360 gradi dei sentimenti dei protagonisti. Per gli affezionati di Carrie e Finn, in questo romanzo, faranno un paio di apparizioni fugaci!!
Un romanzo romance come se ne sono letti tanti, ma di qualità validissima, amore veloce, classiche incomprensioni e la domanda finale : ci sarà l'happy ending? Io ho la bocca cucita!

Noelle is a romance writer and Riley we know from Carrie and Finn's books as the son of Senator Stapleton and the man that arranged to marry Carrie before she fell in love with Finn.

After finding his fiance on his couch with another man, Riley heads to the bar to lick his wounds and finds Noelle.

Can a chance meeting in a packed bar end in true love? Can a few crazy days mean as much as many years? Can Riley stand up to his family and go after something that HE wants?

This was a short, fast paced read. A little predictable but still a great read.

Ora partire a leggere una serie dall'ultimo romanzo può sembrare una cattiva idea, ma dato che io non conoscevo questa scrittrice e visto che questo romanzo è stand-alone, ho pensato che per farmi un'idea dello stile dell'autrice sarebbe andato bene.
Si tratta di un romance romantico, la trama è raccontata alternando i pov dei due protagonisti.
La lettura è stata scorrevole e piacevole.
Carino .... metterò in lista il resto della serie.

Not my favorite in the series, but I still enjoyed reading about Riley getting his happy ending. Some may not like the insta-love aspects, but it worked for me and didn't detract from my enjoyment. Out of Line was my first Jen McLaughlin book with the second book, Out of Time, being my absolute favorite in the series. I'm loving the fact that I'm still getting to enjoy stories within this world.

This was just ok. The relationship didn’t really work for me, and Riley seemed more hollow and wishy-washy for someone who is portrayed as sorta domineering and possessive.

Aww Riley is such a good guy. I really wanted his story from when he first became friends with Carrie. Whipped by his rich parents, but he figures it out by the end. This was a sweet, quick insta-love novella. Loved Noelle the romance writer main character. Seemed like fiction imitating life.

This was a re-read for me, and it still held up as a decent read for me. I liked the book and the story. I hate that it was broken up into so many books, so stupid.
