Some paths only reveal themselves through ruin...

After the events that plunged both their kingdoms into a devestating war, Emery and Malakai have been ripped further apart then they ever have been before. What was once rivalry has curdled into something far more dangerous.

Hatred.

Emery despises Malakai with every breath she takes, and he returns the sentiment in kind.

But when memories resurface and reveal the long-lost location of the Divine Orb, fate drags them together once more. Bound by necessity and the promise of capturing ancient magic, Emery is forced into an uneasy alliance with the very raven-haired prince she swore she would never stand beside again.

Thrown back onto the road together, tensions run high. But it isn’t only their shared past that threatens to tear everything apart. Outside forces move against them, and survival demands cooperation, whether they like it or not.

No matter how fiercely they resist, their paths remain entwined. The only question left is whether two flames born of grief and fury can learn to burn in balance… or if they will rage unchecked, leaving nothing but ash in their wake.

ARC Received from the author.

I don't know where to start.
If I could give more than five stars I would. But I cannot so instead have all my thoughts in their chaos.

I am in love with every character that Cayley has written.
The characters, new and old are all so well developed and have their own unique voices something that is hard to find. Not only that but they feel true to who they were in book 1 ("Royal Rivals"). But there is still so much character development throughout the whole book. It feels natural and well executed with the little changes to them happening as the events unfold.
Even though we only get to see everyone through Emery and Malakai's eyes we are still given a good read on all the other characters by how they interact with others. I especially loved getting to see more of their families and how they both fit within those dynamics, especially after everything that happened towards the end of book 1.
Seeing my beloved Emery and Malakai grow and change (with lots of angst and inner turmoil) was something that I looked forward to. I loved to see them come to handle conflicts differently to how they would have (and did) in the past.

The pacing and the plot are to die for. It kept me constantly turning the page needing to know what was going to happen next. Which is exactly how I found myself finishing it so quickly.
Something that I will forever love in books is a good plot twist and boy were there plot twists that I did not see coming. There were a few times where I found myself thinking I knew exactly what was going to happen and then I would be proven very wrong.

The world building was not super expansive in this book, but that left room for the plot and characters to be the focus. That being said I didn't really feel there was a need for a lot more development from what was already established in "Royal Rivals". What more we do get is a nice touch and adds to the plot and the complications that the characters must overcome.

And now I go back to patiently waiting for the next book and pretending to not go insane about not having it in my hands already.
I really like how and where "Fated Flames" has left off, it's answered some of my question but given me so many more that I can't wait to see unfold in future books.

ARC REVIEW:

This book was a page turner, I only put it down to complete the most absolutely necessary tasks!

Our MCs are amazing in this sequel, the development, growth and blooming relationship were perfect. I found myself shocked every time I remembered how young they are and all they’ve gone through. The narration and dialogue are fantastic and allow the reader to truly get a feel for the character personalities. Malakai and Emery are simply made for each other.

“Keep Emery’s name out of your fucking mouth, or I will sew it shut myself.” This please, I need more of this energy!!!😌

Wish I could give it 5 stars but there were aspects of the writing that didn’t quite work as smoothly as they should have. I found the pace and energy of certain scenes did not quite match the dialogue, with confessions happening during situations that came as more mild than you’d expect. I was also under the impression that our MCs’ story would end here as the author describes this as a duology within a series but the ending left a lot unanswered for our couple. This made several chapters drag on, feeling like filler text over story development, especially with some reconciliations that could have been alluded to rather than written out.

Guess I will just have to check back in for the next book, can’t wait to see what’s in store for our characters!!!
