Way More than Frienda

4.5 stars
What a beautifully vivid poetic story. I love Ms. Anderson's writing, she is top tier with the descriptions. This may not be everyone's cup of tea, but it's definitely mine.

This is a friends to lovers story based on Pierre Hermes, the middle sibling, of the talented Hermes family. They all play instruments and the piano aka the keys is his specialty. He is a world renowned artist, despite struggling with his mental health.

Pierre is off balance and decides to go check on Phenix, his best friend for the last 20 years who was transitioning careers. This interaction for some reason is "different." That protective friend that has held him down through episodes and just life is starting to feel like something... more than a friend. She's always been beautiful, but the growing attraction that they both feel seems to be undeniable. Phenix may have always been in love with Pierre, but she buried her feelings in hopes they would always be friends. Until their connection ignites and they can no longer ignore it.

Things I loved:
• The descriptive way she describes his episodes. The first one felt so real, I didn't realize what was really happening.
• The ability to have us feel the unraveling of the Mmc. Whether it was gradual or abrupt it was felt.
• The unease Phenix felt when dealing with her parents, which seemed to bleed over into the hesitancy she had with Pierre .
• I loved their banter and the "Boy/Girl fk you," had me cackling
• The connection they had on stage was electric. ⚡⚡
• The car scene..... Wow 😳 Yes to not even thinking about waiting.

I'm eager for the next book to see how everything evolves for them.

Whew.... this thang was intense! 😮 At the beginning of the read, I didn't understand what was going on with Pierre. However, as the story moved along everything became clear. My heart broke for him and all that he has gone through. 🥹 How on earth has he managed to thrive with this type of challenge with Prodigy as his father? A man who has not a care for anyone other than himself. Ughhh... 🤬😤 Anywho, Pierre is doing well considering his condition. Although he does struggle with bouts of mania at times, that he is desperately trying to calm. But he can't think of himself at the moment, as his bestie Phenix needs him. She has always been there for him, and he wishes to return the favor.

Phenix is battling her own feelings when life throws her a curveball. Having to move back home is the last thing she wants to do but realizes that it is necessary. Pierre is there for her to help pick up the pieces, but something about their relationship feels different. There is a shift of sorts. Hmmm...

Back in Paramour, both Pierre and Phenix try to navigate their new normal. However, with the close proximity feelings that have been pushed to the backburner, are now rising to the surface, ready to explore. Pierre is ready to move forward, but Phenix is a bit more reluctant to move beyond their friendship. Phenix did her best to resist the pull that she feels towards her best friend. However, she now knows that Pierre has her heart, and she finally gets with the program.

Now what is up with these two fathers? We know Prodigy's "so-called" intentions for Pierre, but what does Mr. Hayes have up his sleeve for Phenix? 👀 Does this coupling make sense for business? Phenix what is up with you girl? Those headaches are becoming an issue, and I fear that there is something serious happening with her. I know that Pierre will be right by her side through it all, but what will the stress do to his already fragile state? 🤯 Really enjoying this series and looking forward to the next one. 👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿

I really enjoyed this book. It tackles topics that are often shunned, especially mental health and therapy, and highlights the real consequences of not taking mental health seriously—how it can become dangerous not only to oneself but to others as well.

The love story between the two main characters is refreshing, blossoming from a long-overdue friendship that finally dares to cross the line into something more. The pianist and the ballerina are a perfect metaphor—music and movement, rhythm and grace—each playing and dancing to their own beat while somehow creating something beautiful together.

This was good, still a little bit on the slower side for me. Pierre had a lot going on with himself, but Phenix being his friend first & always, made it a good pairing. They both had feelings and were hesitant to cross the line, and Phenix gave a lil bit more resistance, but it's always nice when they're both like fuck it let's do it😭 I'm still not a fan of Prodigy, and it was nice to see Pierre starting to let go of the need/want to impress him. I'm ready for the second part, I liked our introduction to Phenix and want to see more
