One senseless, unjustifiable act, upon millions of others, has brought doom upon humanity. Endless violence will be repaid with violence. Blood will reign. Only the sacrifice of a true-hearted champion can stem off the tide of death washing over the world, an act of repentance, a life traded. Will that champion come ... or has an unseen line been transgressed too far?
Teacher and New Jersey author of horror and the dystopian, who, for some reason, primarily reads nonfiction but writes fiction: horror, dystopian, pseudo-memoir. My stories are based in social criticism and are heavy in allegory. I also write poetry and children's lit, when the mood strikes.
ARC review ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ ARC Review; Release date: February 7th, 2026 Black Horn Vengeful by Uilleam Whitedale
First of all: thank you for this ARC. And thanks to Inside Story for casually handing me a book that made me question my moral compass and my blood pressure at the same time. Appreciate that. Truly.
I don’t think I’ve ever read something quite like Black Horn Vengeful. It sits somewhere between horror and paranormal, but not in the glittery-ghost way. More in the “actions have consequences and they might have horns” kind of way. It’s about punishment. Morals. Protection. Choices. The uncomfortable realization that you always have a choice — it just might be the kind that crawls under your skin and refuses to leave.
Now let me be very clear: when animals get hurt in books, my stomach does a full Olympic-level 360. Immediate nausea. Immediate rage. I was fully prepared to close this book after page one and pretend it never happened.
But then something shifted.
The world inside the story tilted… and so did I. And here’s the part I’m slightly ashamed to admit: it was satisfying. Deeply, darkly satisfying. There is something disturbingly cathartic about watching people who think they’re above every other living creature learn that they are not untouchable.
I won’t spoil anything. I refuse. This is one of those stories you need to experience without a safety net. Just know this: nobody gets away with hurting animals. Not here. Not in this world.
Four vengeful stars — not because it’s poorly written. It isn’t. It’s sharp and unsettling and committed to its message. But I personally felt like something was missing, especially toward the end. I wanted a little more. A deeper cut. A final twist of the knife.
Still — if your stomach can handle brutal justice served cold and clawed, and if you secretly enjoy stories where morality bites back… this one’s for you.
What an intriguing and thrilling supernatural, monsters, and creatures story Black Horn Vengeful is. One man one mindless and senseless act nature's animal was enough, something had to change, so animals and nature worldwide needed a champion to lead the fightback against the human destruction of wildlife.
The monsters and shadow figures appeared and took the human offenders spreading worldwide panic as human lives were taken. Can the chosen champion level the balance between human and nature and live in harmony?
This is truly a clever and fascinating supernatural horror by Uilleam Whitedale, a short story, fast-paced that draws you in and holds your attention. A compelling reading experience with believable characters and amazing monsters looking to fight against inhumanity. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, highly recommend.
This was a different type of read for me, but I’m really glad I picked it up. The message woven through the story was thoughtful and impactful, and it kept me invested right to the end. Even though it’s outside my usual genres, I found myself enjoying the journey far more than expected. A meaningful, engaging short story — well worth the read.
An original and dark cautionary tale of nature’s fury
Just what would happen if nature had enough of being dominated by mankind? That’s the scenario which plays out in this original and dark cautionary tale of nature’s fury. After one too many violent acts, the animal kingdom seeks vengeance in order to reset the balance that has been disturbed.
Uilleam Whitedale delivers a page turning story where a Sheriff must deal with the fallout of animals taking back their balance in this world by way of brutal attacks. This eventually develops into a dystopian type of setting as dark forces emerge and intrigue builds along with a tension. A curfew aims to calm the situation only making things worse as this story really does nail the concept of mankind having an ability to act its very worse in times of crisis. People begin to turn on each other as the attacks heighten everything and an epic sense of reckoning emerges, The themes touch on the supernatural which provides a motive and resolution to a unique premise and read.
“Something has come. I can’t tell you exactly what it is, but you all know it. Look at yourselves. Just look! You’re at each other’s throats. It wants this. It wants you to destroy yourselves. It’s some kind of… reckoning.”
I had the opportunity of reading a pre-release copy of Black Horn Vengeful, and simply put, I had a bloody good time doing so. BHV is a nice and easy, one-sitting read made all the greater by Uilleam’s easy-flow style. The story was entertaining as hell, but if you have already read any of Uilleam’s other novels or novellas then you know what to expect going in. No disappointment here, just more of the good stuff. No need for rambling on from me. Black Horn Vengeful is fun and frightening, with an interestingly fresh and well executed plot. Horror fans are going to get the skin-crawling, violent terror you crave, coupled with unexpected turns, humans doing... well, what humans do whenever there is a crisis, vengeance, repercussions and balance, interesting main characters, and some dark, sexy persuasion. Enough time wasting. Go grab the vengeful bull by the black horn.
-I read this as a Beta reader and my review is reflective of the story-
This is what I feel Stephen Grahan Jones aspired to write and couldn't either due to the publishing houses or some other factor.
Black Horn Vengeful is a quick read that follows a sheriff who finds himself in a series of vicious animal related incidents which all end up being tied to a potential cataclysmic event. It is an animal positive reading without diving into being anti-hunting or anti-meat. The trope of past sins is ever present with the characters that are portrayed, which fans of Bone White or American Elsewhere will appreciate.
I got an early copy of this book and thoroughly enjoyed it. The prose is clear and unfussy, allowing me to focus on an entertaining story that blends the creep, the action, and the intrigue in well-balanced measures. There’s an originality and freshness to the author’s work that I feel is missing from a fair bit of contemporary horror, and having read another of his books (Malignant), it’s safe to say that this is not a one-off. Well recommended, and with a really solid ending that confounded my expectations.
Black Horn Vengeful is a quick read and the story was different from what I had expected, which I enjoyed. It centers around a sheriff who finds himself an integral player in a dystopian world. Humans are dying in horrific ways all around him, but he may hold the key to ending this nightmare.
Whitedale’s writing is engaging, and the pacing flows throughout. And the gory elements? Very well done and visceral.
This is an impactful read that carries an important message as well. Respect Mother Nature and her wildlife, for she can bite back.
I raced through this! This book has a fascinating concept that hooked me from the start. A fantastic quick read, the story progresses very quickly, and the gory imagery sticks in your brain. A definite recommendation. This was my first Whitedale read, and I will be seeking out more.
Mother Nature has had enough of the abuse of its little inhabitants. Hunting for the sport of it has damned us all! This gripping tale depicts what happens when the Earth decides to hit back. Full of mystery and gruesome animal attacks, this story kept me engaged and thirsting for more. A perfect blend of thriller and horror that won’t leave you disappointed!
This story feels tense from the very beginning and continues to build throughout. Beneath the surface, it carries a message about how our actions toward animals and nature can come back to haunt us. This short horror story is gripping and holds your attention from start to finish. This book is definitely worth the read.
