Family First. Always.

Jude
As a sixteen year old looking for an escape, Warren Farm became my sanctuary. For ten years, I worked my way up the ranks to become the owner's right hand man. I've been infatuated with Mabel Warren for almost as long. In that time, I've somehow managed to get on the wrong side of both Mabel, and her brother Paul. I'm not sure what I did to cause their ire, but I'm tired of wanting Mabel from a distance. With a new work assignment pushing us together, I'm ready to find out why he hates me and claw my way back into her good graces.

Mabel

After suffering the loss of something I didn't know I wanted until it was taken from me, I promised myself I'd always put my family first. So, when my little brother falls apart at the thought of Jude Daniels getting a promotion, I'm there to hold him together. The only problem? Jude is everything I've ever wanted in a man, and my body won't acknowledge him as enemy number one. What caused the rift between Paul and Jude is a carefully guarded secret, but family comes first, even if it's getting harder and harder to fight my attraction to Jude.

I really wanted to like this one. The tropes were promising: plus size FMC & MMC (we love size representation!), brother’s nemesis (tension! 🫣) and forced proximity (always a fave), but I’m afraid the execution on this one needed more work. I liked that FMC Mabel was a fun, sex-positive woman, but I just found it hard to follow her sudden mood swings that always seemed to find her wrapped in MMC Jude’s arms. I just don’t believe that she wouldn’t have acted on her attraction for all these years given that she had such a bold personality. Jude is very sweet, if not bland and there wasn’t much to him. I appreciate how sweet he was to Mabel, but I wish I could have gotten more of a glimpse into his personality outside of pining for Mabel. Also the whole “brother’s nemesis” bit was wrapped up too quickly and didn’t really fit the overall narrative and I honestly forgot it was even a thing until it was brought up at the end of the book.

The elements that worked best for me were the banter between the siblings. The author did a good job of capturing that fun and sometimes chaotic sibling dynamic. I love how there was sort of a ‘found family’ aspect for Jude (his bio family was pretty toxic), and I love how he was included in the family outings and vacation. He has all the good workings of a great book boyfriend, but I wanted more from his character. The spice was fine I suppose, but it felt sandwiched in between the whiplash of Mabel’s mood swings.

This had all the good bones for a solid romance, but overall it felt like a half-finished story. I think those that are looking for a quick read with a found family dynamic and a sweet MMC will likely find this book appealing, it just (sadly) wasn’t my favorite.

Do It Yourself by Mercy Kay

This was a first for me from this author and I will definitely be going back to read the first book in the series and well reading the one coming out next. This was Jude and Mabel’s journey and I must say I was very much hooked. The whole Paul and Jude thing was a bit much and the fact that Mabel decided to just dislike him because Paul did is definitely a sibling thing. If you know you know. I loved Jude guys I’m sure that his background made everyone love him even more but you just can’t help but love who he is. This story was really interesting and one I was not sure if it was going to be a hit or not but I’m so glad o took a chance on a new author. Definitely will be reading more from this author and a book I would recommend.

I was eager to dig into this read when I saw those tropes because they speak to me. However, I struggled at the start of this book given the slow pacing and how flat the plot felt. Much of the early story centered around Jude pining for Mabel while Mabel tried to push down her feelings for him. I wanted the angst and yearning to be better executed here but it felt off. I craved more interactions that naturally showed their connection deepening over time and really playing with the forced proximity component but I didn’t really get it here.

The pacing was much better in the second half of the story leaving me more invested in Jude and Mabel’s relationship. It just took a while to get there. I will say that the side characters were funny, lovable, and added so much warmth to the book, which was an added bonus for me. Since often you see them faded into the background.

I will say that I’m not a huge fan of the miscommunication trope and while it wasn’t noted I did feel like it was present in this read. The brother’s nemesis component felt like added fluff and it didn’t seem needed here. So many of the conflicts depicted seemed like they could have been resolved with better communication. Leaving me not truly buying the reason Jude and Mabel “couldn’t” be together.

Overall, admittedly I had a hard time connecting with the story at the start, the second half helped to redeem the story. I’d recommend it to readers who are interested in a slower paced read with a miscommunication component, small-town romances, and a slow burn.

Warren Honey 2
ARC Review
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨
🌶️🌶️🌶️

I read this book in one sitting, thank goodness for bank holidays! Mabel and Jude are two plus sized, soft bodied strong beauties and I thoroughly enjoyed the escalation of their relationship. This story will grab you and drag you from pillar to post and you can’t help but love the both of them. If you haven’t read The Family Business (Warren Honey Book 1) I strongly recommend going back and reading it first, it’s also a great read and the two lead on from each other.

There are some sensitive topics regarding pregnancy loss, grief and subsequent anxiety which could be triggering for some so please keep that in mind and protect your mental wellbeing first. That being said, I found the way this was handled to be a breath of fresh air, Mabel processes her past trauma throughout this story, it still affects her every day and the response from those around her when she feels safe to tell them will bring tears to your eyes.

The chemistry between Jude and Mabel is like the relief of slipping into a hot bath after a long day, it’s so sustaining and brings bone deep satisfaction.

Jude is a gentle giant of a man who was harshly rejected by his mother’s new partner at a young age and subsequently learnt to be quiet and ‘out of the way’ in a way lots of us understand when we feel we can’t take up space. Warren Farm and the loving environment created by Mamma D became his sanctuary as a teen and the summer job became a permanent home and career. I thoroughly loved how the matriarch of the family made him feel loved and at home on the farm and the found family aspect of his story is *chef’s kiss*.

Mabel is the oldest sister who rebelled in the past and has closed herself off because of it. Mabel’s character is heavily relatable to so many of us. She knows what she wants and she goes after it despite being torn between familial loyalty and her desire for Jude. I love how fiercely she loves those around her and she is definitely someone I would want in my corner.

Overall this will make you swoon, laugh and cry on a continuous loop, i thoroughly recommend!

This book had me hooked from the start, mostly because of the tension surrounding Jude and Paul. You immediately feel like there’s a deeper history there, and the emotional weight of it carries through the entire story. Jude, especially, stands out, he’s clearly been through a lot, and there’s a quiet sincerity to him that makes it impossible not to root for him.

Mabel, on the other hand, is complicated in a way that feels very real. Her protectiveness over her brother shapes so many of her choices, even when her actions start to contradict what she clearly feels. The push and pull between her and Jude creates a dynamic that is equal parts frustrating and compelling. Their banter is sharp, their chemistry is undeniable, and their inability to fully communicate keeps things tense in a very intentional way.

What really worked for me was how emotional the story gets beneath the surface. There are heavier themes woven in, grief, family expectations, and unresolved hurt, that add depth to the romance. Some moments hit especially hard, particularly when it comes to the ways both characters carry their pain and struggle to express it.

That said, the miscommunication can be a bit much at times. There are points where a single honest conversation could have cleared things up, and it does test your patience. Still, the emotional payoff and character growth make it worth sticking through.

The side characters and family dynamics add a lot to the story, even if some relationships are more frustrating than others. Overall, this is a messy, emotional, character-driven romance filled with tension, vulnerability, and a lot of heart.

This story just didn’t hit right for me, and neither did the characters. To start with what I like: I liked the setting of a farm and small town in Utah. I enjoyed some aspects of the side characters, mainly Mama and Elle. But our main characters, I didn’t like. Jude is fine, a bit bland imo, and his main personality trait is lusting after Mabel for ten years. He comes off kinda pushy with Mabel as well which I disliked for a story that is meant to be upbeat and sweet. (I don’t mind it for dark romance). Mabel is kinda similarly bland, and she has this apparent alternate personality called Maybe that really isn’t explored. I felt like it was just the author trying to add something to her that wasn’t really necessary. She could have just been described as a wild child but then went further to almost call her slutty with all her previous conquests (yes she uses the word conquest). It kinda sounded like Mabel was written to be the manly/dominating one of the two in some very misogynistic ways imo. The spicy scenes were fine, I tended to skip over some of them when it got repetitive, which is unlike me bc I love spice. Also, the way Mabel and Jude got together just didn’t sit right with me, it felt stilted and forced. I honestly think there was little to no actual chemistry between them to make this believable. The baby storyline was cute, and handled really well which is what kept me reading for the most part. Overall, just not really my cup of tea both character and plot wise

Thank you to Luna Literary and Mercy Kay for the opportunity to read this ARC. All thoughts and opinions are my own. 💙

Going into this book, I was really excited since it included a bunch of tropes I love like forced proximity, small-town romance, found family, and reverse age-gap. I’ll be honest though, at the beginning I struggled a bit to get into the story because it felt pretty slow and a little flat plot-wise. For a big portion of the book, it mainly felt like Jude was pining after Mabel while Mabel was trying to ignore her feelings for him, and I kept waiting for more moments between them that really built up the romance and tension. Since forced proximity was such a big part of the premise, I just wanted more interactions and scenes that showed their connection growing naturally.

That being said, once the story picked up, I definitely started enjoying it a lot more. The pacing felt faster in the second half, and I found myself much more invested in the relationship.

My overall favorite part of this book was the found family dynamic. The Warren family dynamic was what really kept me engaged, and it made me excited to continue the series because all of the side characters were so funny and lovable.

Another thing is that I also wasn’t fully convinced by the whole reason Mabel and Jude “couldn’t” be together. The brother’s nemesis felt a bit unnecessary, especially because it seemed like most of the issues could have been solved with better communication.

Overall, while this was an enjoyable read for me, I still ended up having a good time with it by the end even though I had trouble in the beginning. I’d recommend this to readers who enjoy small-town romances and found family.

I love all the Warrens we met in book 1, The Family Business, but I think I was most excited to learn more about the oldest daughter Mabel. I was so excited when I saw this was her book. She has such a fun energy about her, and doesn't take herself too seriously and I love that about her.

Jude is the epitome of quiet boy with a crush. His quiet strength goes so well with Mabel, I loved reading about them getting together. Jude is similar to this trend I have been seeing in a lot of books lately of a strong man, not the stereotypical "alpha hole" that is so common, but one who has no trouble taking direction when needed, yet can still care for his woman. I think that mix has been underrepresented in the past, and it's awesome when done properly.

The spice in this book is super spicy. Jude and Mabel have chemistry for days and make use of it often.

I think what makes this series special is the dynamics in the Warren family in general and the people they surround themselves with. There is plenty of love of all kinds, lots of fun and banter and a matriarch who feels like a Hallmark movie in person form.

All in all this is another excellent small town, family business, workplace romance.

Thanks to the author for the advanced copy. All opinions are my own.

Mabel is the oldest of the Warren siblings, Jude, is 6 years younger, and has worked on the Warren Family Farm since his teen years. There is serious drama between Jude & Paul, Mabel’s younger brother, this drama being one of the reasons Mabel has held herself back from pursuing Jude, even though the attraction is definitely there on both sides. Other than Mabel & Paul, the family definitely considers Jude as an essential part of the team. Now Jude & Mabel have to work closely on a new project (lets go forced proximity)

Ooof the spice was excellent! Mabel knows what she wants, and Jude is happy to provide. The banter was great, Mabel tricking Jude a few times in the beginning, she does not make it easy to let him in. There is a little bit of some miscommunication leading to drama about 65% in, but thankfully doesn’t last too long and I liked the way Mabel & Jude resolved it/

The tension and blowout with Mabel & Jude and Paul was rough but I think it was realistic of hurt feelings among family members. I loved seeing more of Mabel’s mom in this story. Also Elle’s & Patrick were hilarious and provided great comedic release when necessary.

*Content Warning* This book does contain mentions of past pregnancy loss, anxiety attacks, and verbal/emotional manipulation from family members.

If you enjoy reading books where she’s older, forced proximity, great banter, spicy spice but not dark, I definitely recommend checking out Do It Yourself, Book 2 in the Warren Honey series. I am excited to read Lola’s story next!

Do it yourself
I read this as an arc, with that being said I’m not to sure if it was my cup of tea personally! That not a bad thing nor is this a bad book. It was written well and had a good storyline and lovely, fun, heartfelt, steamy moments. The main female character was a plus size woman whom has overcome her past and is the oldest of her family navigating life. The main male character is a good size dude works on the farm where he has been smitten with the main female character. These two play this game of spicy hook ups all while not getting caught. They eventually fall in love but there is family drama that may keep them apart but it all gets took care of. There were a few spicy scenes I didn’t like personally but it wasn’t a bother. To each their own. I believe this is the second book in this series so maybe I will read the first book before this and it might change my understanding of do it yourself(this book)
⭐️/ 3.5 good read

Mabel is living with the ghosts of her past and having a tough time forgetting and allowing herself to heal. Her family and the family business are her priority, but something is lacking in her life.
Jude has been infatuated with Mabel since he was 16 years old, but old mysterious grudges against him, make it impossible for him to get near her.
When they are forced to work together for the benefit of the farm, their attraction grows tenfold, but so do their insecurities and ghosts of the past.
While they fight to be together, their secrets come out and threaten their relationship and the unity of the family. Until something beautiful and unexpected happens…
Do It Yourself is a beautiful love story with yearning, angst and spice that will get you hooked.
Mercy Kay writes about self-sacrifice, past traumas that weigh in on the present and real love that refuses to let go and helps heal old wounds.
Thank you for the ARC.

Please read the content warning before starting this book. I definitely didn’t expect this sister of the three (I’ve only read this one and first one, third one hasn’t came out yet) to be the kinkiest of them.

What I liked: she is older. He’s had a thing for her since he was 16. All the tropes, especially the one where both are curvy my absolute fav. The sneaky around especially around the whole family on a family vacation wild.

What I didn’t liked: the fmc made him feel ostracized from being part of the family even though the mom made him feel like family (but then again the mmc and the fmc’s brother have some issues with each other). And I do wished the fmc had asked the mmc earlier what issues he and her brother had even that they worked together for a very long time and the fmc was acting a bit childish. The reveal on the fmc’s brother and mmc issues.

Can’t wait for book 3

Do It Yourself by Mercy Kay was such a good read for me.

The chemistry between Jude and Mabel was exactly what I needed. From the beginning, you could feel the tension, attraction, and emotional pull between them, and it made their story so engaging to read.

One thing I really appreciated about this book was seeing both main characters represented as plus size. It felt refreshing, natural, and honestly comforting to read. Everyone deserves to see themselves represented in romance stories, and I loved that the author gave us characters who were beautiful, desired, and fully loved exactly as they were.

Jude and Mabel’s relationship also carried a lot of emotional weight because of the family tensions and secrets surrounding them. There are definitely heavier topics discussed throughout the story, so I’d recommend checking content warnings beforehand if needed.

Overall, this was emotional, chemistry-filled, and a really enjoyable romance.

Do It Yourself by Mercy Kay
Warren Honey book 2

Jude and Mabel are the MC’s in this story. Both are plus size people and the way the story is written gives them a down to earth honest everyday kind of people. Jude is a teddy bear of a guy but he is quiet and keeps to himself. He has had a crush on Mabel since he was 16. Mabel had her thoughts with her for the longest time and things that happened leave her bruised emotionally with no end in site with how she needs to move on.
They are forced to work together and become close but no one really wants that besides them. When everything is brought to light can they stay together or be torn apart. There is a lot of emotional topics and trauma that were brought out in this book. The spice be spicing also.

🍯 I loved this book, this was my first Mercy Kay book and I love her writing!
🍯The relationship the Warren family has is so special, I love the way Mama D is. I think she helps tie the whole book together.
🍯 The way Mabel cares so much about her relationship with Paul, enough to give up what she really wanted was so sweet but so devastating . I was on the edge of my seat waiting for the intense conversation scene.
🍯 However, the way the book ended was truly perfect. All the small touches and little details were wrapped up perfectly. I’m secretly hoping to read more about their story and their little Warren.

3.5⭐2.5🌶️ ARC Dual POV First Person
Standalone #3 in Warren Honey series
Jude and Mabel
Jude is a big sweet teddy bear, who unfortunately doesn't have a great family, which you see snippets of, but sadly there's no resolution there.
Mabel is a mixed bag of emotions. She has something from her past that she's not shared with her family, she has inner turmoil over her feelings for Jude while still trying to stay loyal to her brother- though she has no idea what the issue is between the two men.

There are two miscommunications in this story. One that happened before the actual story, and last until almost the end. And then one between the MCs, doesn't last long and we're told is cleared up, off page. I wish we got to see more of the MCs happily together as a couple.

ARC Review:

I was really anticipating this release after loving Mabel and Jude’s snippet at the end of The Family Business. It was amazing getting to watch both of them grow, not only as individual characters but also within their relationship throughout the story. The chemistry between them was incredible, and some of the spicy scenes were especially vivid and well written.

I also loved finally getting more insight into the history between Jude and Paul that had been hinted at since the first book. Seeing the growth and understanding between them, especially with Mabel being their common denominator, was truly satisfying to read.

Overall, I really enjoyed this installment and am already looking forward to seeing which Warren sibling will be next!

When you’ve been crushing on her for years, what happens if you had the courage to tell her?

Do It Yourself is the newest book in the Warren Honey series and brings you the story of two people who realize what they’ve been missing.

Jude has had a crush on Mabel for years but has never made it known. It doesn’t help that it seems like both she and her brother hate him.

From that starting point through the remainder of the story, you will find learning, healing, and the love of a found and true family. Jude and Mabel have obstacle and hurt that both have to navigate all while trying to figure out their new relationship.

If you’re looking for something sweet, the Warren Honey series may be for you.

Enjoyable story….

…but a lot of errors. It felt a little like I was reading a version that hadn’t been edited yet. Most were just typos like missing spaces or the wrong form of your - “you’re son peed on me” in the epilogue, for example. Prior to the wedding scene, the FMC suggests that “Lola” is going to kill Mabel and Lola for crying when it is clearly meant to be Elle. The most egregious error though is that Mabel turns 31 in the book despite 10 years having passed since she was 22 and her being 6 years older than the 26 year old MMC. She should have been turning 32 or 33, not 31.

Other than the errors, the story was enjoyable and the Warren family is lovely!

Do it Yourself is a heartwarming, emotional workplace romance. I love Mabel and Jude's story! Jude is Mabel's brother's nemesis, and nobody knows what the feud is about. Mabel tries to respect her brother's feelings about Jude, but her feelings for Jude become more apparent. Jude always had feelings for Mabel. This story is beautifully written, easy to read, sweet and spicy! I love this story! Can't wait to read Lola's story!

Jude and Mabel had incredible chemistry from the start, and I loved the dynamic between them. Their banter felt natural, the tension was constant, and watching everything unfold between them kept me completely hooked. One of my favourite things about this couple was the reverse age gap. I loved seeing that dynamic flipped, and I think it added something really refreshing to the romance and the way Jude and Mabel connected with each other. Mercy Kay balanced the humour, spice, and emotional moments so well, making this an easy binge worthy read!

I will die alone 😋😋 ugh to find me a partner who treats me the way that Jude treats Mable!!

This was my favorite kind of pining book, where I didn’t have to watch the slow burn I was just introduced to it and then got to see the breaking point! This one is my favorite of the series. If you love a worshiper partner who’s so good at listening you should definitely pick up Do it yourself. You can read the first book for a little more context but if you wanted to jump into this one I feel like it wouldn’t feel like you are missing too much context.

I devoured this book!!! It was sooooo good!! Jude is Mabel’s brother’s nemesis and no one really knows why either. Mabel has no idea how Jude feels about her. He’s been in love with her for a very long time. I loved Jude, he’s just so sweet and he’s like a walking teddy bear. Mabel and Jude end up working together and attraction grows but then a miscommunication happens. Can Jude and Mabel make the relationship work or do they walk away from each other? This book is a must read and I highly recommend it. Thank You, Mercy and Luna Literary for this ARC!

3.4 rounding up to 4 stars

It took a little while to finish this book because I couldn't get fully into it, especially in the beginning. Though I enjoyed that there was plus size representation and a reverse age gap, some parts seemed a little lackluster. One thing I will say was that the sibling dynamic? Spot on. The rivalry between Paul and Jude seemed a little weak. But between Jude's gentle giant nature and their "forbidden" romance I enjoyed it.

This is book 2 in the Warren honey series and in my opinion you do not need to read book 1 before this book. Over all I would recommend this book and I can’t wait to read more of Mercy Kay books

Readers of romance, I hereby submit Jude Daniels for admission to the pantheon of book boyfriends. This down bad man is an absolute simp for Mabel Warren and I was here for it!

Jude has been infatuated with Mabel since he started work at Warren Honey a decade ago. But since Mabel's brother hates him for some unknown reason, Jude keeps his distance, not wanting to rock the boat in his found family. The catch now is that Mabel is starting to reciprocate Jude's feelings.

Learning Mabel’s secret and how the loss still lingered made her grief palpable. These feelings had me wiping tears off my kindle. But, I loved how the Warren sisters showed up for her.

I enjoyed Mabel and Jude’s story…I liked how Jude yearned for Mabel for so long and liked their chemistry once they got together. The family members being a part of the story was also fun to read. Also enjoyed the pregnancy storyline.
