I made it 54% of the way through this book before I put it down. The plot started off with a terrible start for me, and the MC's behavior after that critical moment was abhorrent to me.

The MC is a "Troubleshooter", someone that goes into VR realms to fix abnormalities so that those that use the VR environments can be safe(r). It's his retirement after a quick battle against a rogue dragon in one environment. He's spending time with his wife of 15yrs when entities from those VR environments show up to take hostages. But because he's the big bad enemy to them in VR, they kill his wife in front of him by slitting her throat as a form of punishment. Then he's rescued by a teammate and thrown into a VR pod and sent to an environment that's been closed off.

There, he gets captured, and meets a vampire chick that he finds attractive. And through lots of combat, they start to bond in a weird way. Less than 24hrs after his wife is executed in front of him, he's staring at her body a lot. Less than 48hrs later, he's making out with her and rationalizing that while he loved his wife, his wife didn't understand him the way the vampire woman does. That was pretty much the end of the book for me.

I think the whole wife being executed in front of the MC was a really poor choice by the author. It makes the MC look like a failure because he couldn't stop it even though he was armed with a pistol at the time. And then the fact that he starts to sound more and more eager to move on less than 48hrs after her execution is just offensive to what he had with his wife. All because she didn't get his work, he's ready to move on in under 2 days? Yuck.

What an awesome book! Troubleshooter totally held me spellbound with its fast pace ,cinematic scenes, amazing characters and steamy romance. A book that is impossible to put down as it is beyond enjoyable .. a whole experience for the senses . Definitely a must for the big screen.
