Eli and the Watchers chase Zapata through the vast mines and across the surface
Three centuries after the catastrophic Genetic Wars, humanity has divided into three factions: The Thule: Genetically engineered for intelligence and long life, they have total authority over the world, and live a contented existence of wealth and prosperity. The Echoes: Modified to thrive in every vocation and environment, they have freedom and opportunity. The Gnats: Natural-born humans, they are slaves. Most are fated to work in massive subterranean mines. In the massive mine around Lincoln, the Gnat Mayor creates a new unit to investigate disturbances and to keep the children safe. The Watchers are led by Eli Miller with old friends Leylani Haru and Colter Stone. They discover an old handwritten journal belonging to Dr. Stacey Fisher who had helped create the Thule and Echoes then disappeared. The leader of the Nine, a Thule named Zapata, is creating the disturbances around Lincoln and kidnapping and experimenting on children. He suspects the Watchers have Dr. Fisher's journal which he thinks contains the secret to Thule immortality. He'll never stop pursuing Eli and the Watchers to obtain the Journal, no matter the cost. He nearly destroys Lincoln before the chase leads to the surface. The Gnats believe the surface is deadly to them and are amazed by the beauty of the land above but the danger is not the air and sun, but the Thule and Echoes pursuing them.
My favorite character is Eli's dog Nox. An integral part of the Watcher team, Nox leads them with his nose and senses. He seems to understand what is needed in any situation and many lives are owed him. The characters are lively and believable. The storyline leads the Watchers through danger and discovery, leading to conflicts with the disgustingly evil Zapata and his minions. Excitement and danger plague the Watchers at every turn above and below ground. This final episode of the Silent Wars is a tremendous read!
Wow ! What a great third book in The Silent Wars series. Raiders was thrilling from start to finish. Our heroes, Eli, Ley, Colter, Jade, Kora and Nox the dog, face many dangers as they race to stay one step ahead of their worse enemy Zapata. Really looking forward to the next book.
