I really enjoyed the beginning of King and thought it had a lot of potential, but unfortunately it went downhill pretty quickly for me. Jax and Harper’s story started off strong, then became messy as the book went on and the plot started to feel a bit lost. A big part of the chaotic underdevelopment came from how much the storyline revolved around the situation with the father. It started to take over the book instead of adding meaningful depth, which made the overall romance feel less focused. I was also expecting more of a clear sunshine x grumpy dynamic, but it barely felt present. Instead of strong emotional tension or meaningful growth between them, the relationship felt unbalanced and underdeveloped at times. By the end, it honestly felt like Harper’s part of the story was almost gone, which made it harder to stay invested in their journey together. One thing I did really enjoy was seeing Jax slowly learn how to become more in touch with his emotions. Those moments added depth to his character and were some of the highlights for me. Overall, not a terrible read — just disappointing compared to how promising the start was.
This had so much potential but unfortunately the timeline of things was off and weird. They had the coffee spill, then it Jumps to something else then back to the coffee spill. His friends know about her but it literally takes places within hours of the coffee spill and he has scenes with them and never tells them about her.. so how did they know?
There were times our MC said he got it from a sponsor then it’s all from his dad at a later date? The guy was rich- what did he need a sponsor for?
