I love returning to the small coastal town of Edgewater. This time with Caleb and Rebecca. They were drawn to each other since the first moment they met. Forced proximity is one of my favorite tropes and after Rebecca’s apartment and studio burns, it was inevitable for them to get closer. But they don’t want to pursue anything further until they cant deny it any longer. They have gone through a lot: losing a spouse and an abusive relationship. (Read the trigger warnings before you get into this book)
I loved their banter and how feisty Rebecca was with Caleb. As their relationship progresses, they know can rely on each other and explore stuff in a certain bucket list iykyk. I enjoyed how Rebecca became part of the family dynamic of Caleb and Carrie. How she deserved to carry on her big plans and becoming independent, after second guessing herself and feeling small. The people that hurt her find out the consequences when Rebecca and Carrie are in danger.
Caleb and Rebecca are my second favorite couple of the series. Their ending was perfect, the angst, the emotion, the banter, the spice, the protectiveness, the fun, the healing, other characters, and a couple of surprises.

Evita Wren truly can do no wrong! I say it every single time, but I am so serious when I say I love EVERYTHING she writes, and Paper Hearts was no exception. I love the Edgewater series so freaking much, and this book was incredible.
Rebecca is such a badass, and she is beyond brave. A motorcycle-riding artist who is trying to rebuild her life after escaping an abusive relationship was such a fasinating arc for her, and I was rooting for her, especially when we find out what she went through. This book is definitely heavier and more emotional because of everything she has been through, and while she has some unhealthy coping mechanisms and a lot of healing to do, I loved seeing her slowly find herself again. The art therapy aspect was so beautiful too, especially her passion for helping kids. This book kind of reminds me of a Catherine Cowles book! I mean this in the best way, by the way. It’s such a perfect mix of romantic suspense and woman on the run who finds solace, healing, love and a happy ending in a local first responder. I LOVED it!
Also, the POTS representation was perfection. Sadie mentioning POTS early on made me so happy. I love seeing rare chronic illnesses represented in books because it makes me feel so seen, and I love that we can spread awareness and help others learn about a condition that needs far more recognition.
Rebecca and Caleb’s meet cute was absolutely hilarious! She runs back into her burning apartment to save her journal and books, Caleb is basically yelling, “What is wrong with you?!” while saving her life, and she’s over here calling him Mr. Firehouse Calendar Model. I was dying.
And then the universe decides to be funny and places Rebecca in Caleb’s house through the displacement housing program after the fire. The tension was immediate and I was truly living for every single minute of it.
I adored Caleb. He’s a widower trying to raise his daughter while carrying so much grief, and he was exactly what Rebecca needed. He was patient, understanding, and so focused on making sure she felt safe and in control as she healed. Their relationship was handled so beautifully. The trust between them was really beautiful, and watching Rebecca slowly learn how to open herself up again absolutely got me. She deserved a good man who could help her heal and see her worth and also provide her happiness in ALL the ways.
Carrie was such a sweet girl and I felt for her after all she had been through too. The scene with Rebecca and the period situation was one that got me. I cried because she needed that and it was so sweet to see. Their bond through art was so special, and I loved how naturally Rebecca became part of their little family.
Caleb was beyond hot! The man is pierced, a firefighter, a single dad, and somehow keeps getting hotter. Some of those spicy scenes, like the lingerie and tied up one? GOODNESS. I get it, Rebecca. I really do!
I loved the meaning behind the Paper Hearts title and the connection with art. Actual tears and I love when authors include the title somewhere in the book with a meaning like this. It was such a perfect full circle moment after everything she had been through.
This book was SO perfect in every single way. Rebecca and Caleb brought out the best in each other, and I loved every second of their journey. Another absolutely incredible book from Evita Wren, and one of my favorite Edgewater stories yet. I cannot WAIT for the next book!

Her determination to save her sketchbook and journal, her dreams and pieces of herself spoke volumes about her resilience.
Caleb Novak is everything I love in a romance hero. As a widowed firefighter and devoted single dad, he’s still carrying the weight of unimaginable loss, yet his compassion never wavers. Annnnnnd we’re back in Edgewater except now we’re following Caleb Novak and Rebecca West. I looooved every minute of this book! There was so much rawness and emotion in this one and I really love how Evita wrote and expressed it! Evita’s is such an amazing and beautiful writer. She details everything so perfectly and makes you feel like you are right there in that town with everyone.
Rebecca West is an art sculptor who moves into town wanting a fresh start after leaving an abusive relationship. Her brother had moved to the same town where he found his own true love. She ends up living with them for a while after her apartment caught fire, before signing up for this displacement hosing where she stays with Caleb and his daughter (forced proximity…sign me UP).
Caleb Novak is a fire chief born and raised in Edgewater. He lives with his daughter after his wife passed away and became a volunteer for the housing displacement program. Rebecca shows up at his door and his world gets flipped upside down but in a good way once he realizes he’s fallen for her.
Rebecca was such a complex character who just wanted to make it on her own after being held back by the things she loved because of her abusive finance. And I looooove that she got to do that with Caleb and his daughter. He showed her all the things she could have without being told that she couldn’t. He brought back the old Rebecca that she thought was lost forever. Their dynamic was beautiful. He never pushed her, he always made sure it was her choice, and he loved her more than she thought possible. The banter was bantering, the tension was thick like honey, and the smexy scenes were 🫠🥵! If you want to read a book that you know for sure, going in, will be emotional, sweet, funny, spicy, inclusive, joyful, and remind you of why the romance genre can be fulfilling on so many levels, then you absolutely cannot go wrong with a book by Evita Wren.
That might sound like hyperbole, but I’ve read every one of her books, and I have yet to be disappointed by her work. She writes such compelling characters and her stories grab you and hold on tight. And her inclusiveness is simply incredible.
This time around Wren takes us back to Edgewater and introduces us to Rebecca and Caleb. Both have had their struggles, both have been wounded. Caleb is a widower and single dad, Rebecca is a woman trying to live out from under her family’s thumb. Together they learn how to live and love.
What makes the book so great isn’t just the plot, though that’s both sweet and deliciously spicy, but rather the way Wren writes her characters. As I mentioned, Wren is a wonderfully inclusive author, and she delves into the lives of her characters with such compassion and warmth. And as someone who lives with disabilities, I am so grateful that she tackles mental health topics so honestly and with such understanding.
Rebecca and Caleb will have you laughing at their banter, fanning yourself at their spicy-ness, and pulling for their happily ever after. I also have to mention that I often find myself cringing at the way authors write younger characters. They come off as too mature or too “cute.” But Wren writes Carrie, Caleb’s daughter, the same way she writes the rest of her characters—with honesty and realism.

Evita Wren has officially done it again. At this point, I don't even question whether I'm going to love one of their books because they somehow never miss. Every time I pick up one of their stories, I know I'm about to fall in love with the characters, become completely invested in the storyline, and end up wanting the next book immediately.
Rebecca was such an incredible heroine. She's a motorcycle-riding artist trying to rebuild her life after escaping an abusive relationship, and I was rooting for her from the very beginning. Her journey wasn't easy, and this story definitely leans heavier emotionally, but watching her slowly heal and rediscover herself was beautiful. She isn't magically "fixed," and I loved that Evita gave her space to struggle, heal, and grow at her own pace.
Also, something that Evita Wren always does right is disability/chronic illness representation. If you are looking for a book with a beautiful depiction of POTS woven into the story, this is it. Seeing Sadie casually mention having POTS made me so happy.
Caleb completely stole my heart. A firefighter, widower, single dad...and pierced? Say less. Beneath all that, he was patient, gentle, protective, and constantly made sure she felt safe and in control as she healed from her past. Their relationship was built on trust, communication, and genuine care, and it was handled so beautifully.
And yes...Caleb's dirty talk deserves its own paragraph because WOW. The lingerie scene? The rope scene? I completely understand the obsession.

What you don't expect is exactly what was going on in the city to make Rebecca want to just leave and hangout in a small town where everyone knows everyone, except her. Caleb Novak is no stranger to unfortunate and untimely things happening. He lost his wife a few years ago and it's been really hard for him and his 10 year old daughter Carrie to navigate their new normal.
After getting to Edgewater and attempting to settle in Rebecca's apartment catches fire and Fire Chief Caleb Novak is on the scene. Their first interaction is her pushing past him to run into a burning building after he explicitly tells her not to. What follows is honestly one of the best stories of trust and healing that I've ever read and those two themes are themes Evita does well and often. Always hitting the mark in the best ways. We get some forced proximity, we get some power dynamic exchange, we get some absolutely delicious interactions where zero toxic masculinity can be found. It truly was perfect, zero complaints. Another book of Evita’s I wasn’t able to put down! This is book 4 in the Edgewater Universe.
Not only is she amazing at writing characters you fall in love with & storylines that grip you, but she also knows how to write a character you hate.
Rebecca moves to Edgewater to be near her brother Theo (his story is book 3 in the series) after ending her engagement to Wes. But when her apartment is burnt down, she signs up for Edgewater Displacement Volunteer Network - where residents offer a room to people who have no where else to stay. It’s just her luck that she’s paired up with the Caleb, firefighter who gave her an earful after she ran back into her burning apartment to retrieve some items.
Caleb has had a tough few years. Following the passing of his wife, he lives alone with their daughter, Carrie. Having Rebecca around breathes life back into them, after all, both her & Carrie are artists.
Rebecca struggles to let people in. Not even her best friend knows everything she went through with Wes, but she begins to open up to Caleb & mutual attraction is obvious. Caleb is very consent orientated, he doesn’t want Rebecca to be forced into doing anything she’s not comfortable with ever again.
These two were clearly made for each other. Rebecca laps up the attention Caleb showers on her, & she allows him the time to move on from his late wife whilst honouring her memory.
I can’t wait for more snippets of these two as the series progresses.

A lot to unpack here. First and foremost when you are a person who is living in 'literal hell' it takes a moment where your life is on the line where you have to choose yourself. I feel like Rebecca does choose herself but also has some unhealthy tendencies which are shown early on in the book. It takes a village to remind her that she is worth something and that her voice is important.
Rebecca's experience with Wes will ultimately remind you that the moments don't define you. & the choices you make afterward help with taking back your independence and sense of self. The books and the list(s) were important for Rebecca to reassert her as a person.
Caleb has his own struggles mostly with raising a daughter on his own after losing his wife. I feel like Carrie is very mature for her age and that she understands more than the adults give her credit for. Her personality shined through in the soft moments with Rebecca. I loved that Rebecca and Carrie had a connection through art. It made their relationship better and it also helped Caleb realize that it was OKAY to move on. They weren't going to forget his previous wife.
I really enjoyed the MCS arcs independently and together. They both brought out better in the other and I honestly loved how they trusted one another implicitly and loved unconditionally.

If Evita writes it, I’m going to read it. That’s it. That’s the review. Just kidding!
We got to see an inkling of what a p.o.s. Rebecca’s fiancé was in Black Dove when she was on the phone with Theo, and this story is her escape, her starting over. Her chance at getting her freedom. But like so many trying to escape abuse, she’s living in fear, and has shut herself off from so many, including her brother, but when her new apartment catches fire, causing her to cross paths with Firehouse Calendar Model, Caleb Novak. To be fair, swoon. Caleb has one focus though, take care of his daughter. He lost his wife, so his daugher is his concern, until Rebecca is placed in his home through an organization his late wife set up. She connects with his daughter through art, as Rebecca is an artist who has taken over at the community center while the original artist goes on maturnity leave. This proximity allows for Caleb and Rebecca to put aside the tension that they orignally had upon their first meeting, breaking down walls they both had up, realizing they are more alike than different.
Per usual, Evita has a way of pulling at heartstrings in ways you don’t expect, making you fall for these characters, and become so invested. Loving when they love, hurting when they hurt, feeling anger with them.
When Theo and Caleb team up? Chefs fucking kiss!
She has a special way of writing that makes you care about these characters, and Caleb and Rebecca are no exception, especially because we also get to see how Claire & Rebecca connect with each other too, which is extra special. She’s not trying to take Amelia’s place, but wants her to know she’s loved.

Small town, spicy romance - perfect for a lazy Sunday. It's a "read it all in one day" kinda book, it was great! I had a lovely day in Edgewater with them! It's the 4th book in the series, but they each stand alone, so order makes no difference. I will, however, be checking out the test if the series very soon 😎
Rebecca has arrived in Edgewater when she turns her back on the city and the troubles she had there. She's left her fiancée and is starting over. Things take a turn for the worse when her apartment burns down. She can't believe her eyes and runs into the burning building to retrieve get journal and sketchbook. Fire Chief Caleb has to go in after her and is NOT impressed by such reckless behaviour.
With nowhere to live and no possessions, save her books, this is THE most drastic start-over! She kinda fancies Caleb but is also being hounded by her ex and her mother. She needs time to discover herself once more.
I spent half the book in fear of what would happen with her ex! Whilst I was very much enjoying R&C's storyline, I was waiting for the bomb to drop. There was no "third act breakup" but there was something of a bomb!

I’d like to start off by saying thank you to Avita Wren for having me on her ARC team. Once again, I thoroughly enjoyed another book by her. Paper Hearts is a captivating small-town romance that draws you in from the very beginning. However, this book is heavier, so please be mindful of your triggers, as your mental health is of utmost importance.
The story revolves around Rebecca, an artist who relocates to Edgewater to escape a tumultuous past relationship. Meanwhile, Caleb, the town’s fire chief, is a single father who recently lost his wife. A devastating fire at Rebecca’s new apartment forces her into the Edgewater displacement program, leading her to unexpectedly find herself at Caleb’s house with his daughter.
Rebecca carries deep-seated trauma, and as the story unfolds, we witness the profound impact it has on her. Simultaneously, Caleb grapples with the emotional aftermath of his wife’s loss. Despite their challenges, they find solace in each other, becoming the perfect support system for healing. However, their journey is not without obstacles and setbacks.
Paper Hearts is an emotionally charged and beautifully written novel. Evita Wren consistently champions body positivity, mental health awareness, and the representation of chronic illness. Paper Hearts is book four in the Edgewater Romance series. While it can be read as a standalone, plenty of characters from the previous books are present in the story, and it might be a bit confusing at times if you haven't followed along.
This story was super sweet, with plenty of feel good moments, and a romance that felt earned and well deserved.
I really loved both characters. Cay, the MMC, single dad, getting back to living life to the fullest and leaving grief behind. And Becks, the FMC, getting out of a bad situation and learning to trust herself and others again.
The found family is strong in this one, and it was so good to see everyone getting a second chance at happiness.
There's a bit of spice, and some light kink exploration, but the relationship here develops strongly outside of the bedroom, and the spice never overpowers the plot.
Overall, this was a great addition to the series, and I can't wait to go back to Edgewater for the next adventures.

While this book can certainly be read as a standalone, I genuinely believe you'd be missing out if you didn't start the series from the beginning. One of the greatest strengths of the Edgewater series is how all the characters and their stories intertwine, making each book even more rewarding than the last.
Evita has an incredible talent for creating characters who feel real and relatable. Rebecca and Caleb were wonderful protagonists, and it was impossible not to become invested in their journey. Even when exploring difficult or emotional aspects of a character's past, Evita approaches these topics with such care and sensitivity that the story never feels overwhelming.
One of my favourite things about Evita's writing is how inclusive it is. She explores a wide range of experiences, struggles, and relationships, making it easy for readers to see pieces of themselves reflected in her characters. You can tell that a great deal of thought and heart goes into every story she writes.
As always, the writing was beautiful, the characters were unforgettable, and I found myself completely immersed in the story from beginning to end. And, as fans of Evita's books have come to expect, the spicy scenes are absolutely to die for. I absolutely loved Lexi and Cole, but Rebecca and Caleb completely stole my heart. Their story was on another level for me. I found myself grinning through so much of this book, and then, just as quickly, my heart was being tugged in every direction.
Rebecca and Caleb were incredible, but Theo deserves his own mention. The love, loyalty, and protectiveness he has for his sister made me love his character just as much. Those sibling moments were some of my favorite parts of the story.
Evita has such a talent for writing characters who feel authentic and relationships that make you laugh, swoon, and ache alongside them. I became so invested in every one of them that I didn't want the story to end.
Another five-star read from an auto-buy author for me. I can't wait to see what she writes next!

Reading this book was.... shocking for me. Rebecca's situation mirrored my personal experience almost exactly. Every emotion that she felt, every time she felt panic, I have been there. Evita is the queen of writing real characters. Characters that you will connect with on some level. Caleb is a firefighter, single father, whose wife did, and he's just trying to raise his daughter to the best of his ability.
The spice in this book. I don't even know where to start. Caleb is probably the dirtiest man in Edgewater.
Add this to your TBR. Even if contemporary romance isn't your main genre, Evita writes characters that everyone should get to know.

I am pretty sure this is my favourite so far in the Edgewater Romance series. I highly recommend checking the trigger warnings before you start reading this though because the triggers start right away!
This story was intense with lots of heat, both figuratively and literally. It has a single, widower fireman dad with a daughter who has selective mutism. It also has an artist FMC who will run into a burning building just to save her notebooks.
While this story is a blue collar romance, it also has slight undertones of suspense. The story itself is still a sweet and spicy slow burn.
Highly recommend to those who like the single dad romance trope or the idea of fulfilling a bucket list.

“This woman is so damn magnetic; nothing else around me matters when she’s nearby.”
Another banger from Evita Wren! I was so excited for this book to come out and she didn’t disappoint. Cay and Rebecca literally are the sweetest yet sluttiest couple I think in all of Edgewater (next to Theo and Emma cause goddamn they are the sluttiest and I love).
I think this idea of being able to love again not only after loss but after trauma and loosing yourself is something that many people may experience or try to sympathize with but reading this from the characters POV and being able to almost like be in their heads really drives home just how much of an impact those events make when it comes to any kind of choices in life.

I really enjoyed this book.
I haven't read the series in order, as I received book 3, then book 2.5 as ARC's and hadn't read the others first. But now having read this one (book 4), I really liked getting to know all the characters even more and I fully intend to read the whole series.
Rebecca & Caleb are both great. You really get a sense of all their "baggage" without it being overdone or either of them sounding repetitive or whiny.
There was a perfect amount of romance, spice, banter and tension.

I always love visiting Edgewater, and this book was no exception. Rebecca and Caleb’s story was full of heart, healing, and plenty of sweet moments. I really enjoyed watching Rebecca find her footing after everything she’d been through, and Caleb was impossible not to love as a devoted dad trying to open his heart again.
The chemistry was great, the small-town community was as charming as ever, and Carrie absolutely stole a few scenes. Edgewater continues to feel like a place I’d happily keep coming back to, and this was another lovely addition to the series.

This is a beautiful love story about facing the horrors of your past and finding love again after loss. I’m so incredibly happy that I got the chance to read this book. Becks and Caleb were made for each other. He builds her up at every possible turn, and she loves so fiercely. It’s nice to see Carrie starting to open back up. The bonds within this family are what we all should strive to find for ourselves.

Rebecca, an artist, is trying to start over again shatter a toxic ex. Caleb comes into play as the firefighter that saves her from her burning studio apartment. Now displaced, she ends up having to move in with him and his daughter. I loved seeing these two dealing with their pasts, but looking at one another like they coins both be something new in each others lives. This was so sweet, and I loved reading about these two. All of the stories in this series so far have been absolutely amazing.

I loved reading about Caleb & Rebecca's story. I hate what Rebecca went through with her ex, Wes. Caleb & his daughter Carrie were going through their own difficulties. I love reading about the people of Edgewater. It's so cozy, comforting, loving, & healing. Thank you so much Evita Wren for this e-arc!

Caleb and Rebecca are amazing. Consent king. Troubled past, still hanging on to the love for his dead wife. Rebecca has a horrible past and an abusive ex that wants her back. Plus Caleb has a daughter with selective mutism. These two love story is beautiful. They work well together. He is patient with her and she is patient with him.

I absolutely adored Caleb and Rebecca’s story, I can’t even with how everything played out for them, the strength they both showed in their individual stories and for each other, but honestly FIREFLY, I can’t even 🥰. But who knew that lingerie rope and honey could be so fun together 😉. This is absolutely a must read!

Not my absolute favorite from Evita, but still a five star win! I would’ve appreciated a slightly different resolution with the POS ex, Wes that didn’t involve traumarizing poor Carrie (again), but life happens, so it is what it is!

This is such a cute and heartwarming read. Caleb and Rebecca have a story that really delivers. It is a slow burn that has so much emotion and heart with a bit of angst. Their story is one of healing and family.
