Breaking Waves

Rate this book
For over two decades, Jennifer, Deidre, and Laney have stood by each other’s sides—through graduation caps and wedding vows, heartbreaks and promotions, messy breakups and wine-soaked chats. From the moment they met in college, the bond between them felt unshakable—an anchor in a world that constantly changed.

But beneath the surface of their sisterhood, each woman is holding a secret that could undo everything.

Jennifer appears to have it all—a stable marriage, a beautiful home, and the kind of life others envy. But she’s harboring a secret mistake from years ago that, if revealed, could destroy not just her marriage, but the trust of her oldest friends.

Deidre, the sweet, romantic soul of the trio, has always believed in love and happy endings. But she’s hiding something that would upend the very identity she’s built her world around—and possibly cost her everything she holds dear.

Laney, the cool-headed attorney, has lived her entire life playing by the rules and protecting her family’s legacy. But behind her composed exterior lies a truth so personal, so sacred, it’s been locked away in silence…until now.

As the women approach their forties, life starts shifting. Losses, betrayals, revelations—they all begin to pile like waves, and each one threatens to break open the truth.

One by one, their carefully constructed facades begin to crack—and they must decide whether their friendship can survive the truth, or if it was always built on sand.

A story of love, loyalty, identity, and the cost of silence, Breaking Waves is a poignant, emotionally rich novel about the ties that bind—and the truths that set us free.

As a 35-year-old woman, there were many comforts, as well as many uncomfortable moments that I experienced while moving through this page-turner. Pieces of each character's story were completely relatable, and at times they brought up complex emotions that I thought I had moved past. I read Gayle's novel while recovering from an unexpected surgery, and I would consider this an extremely harrowing time in my personal life. But, her writing has brought me some hope, in that it's not too late for things to take a turn for the better. Thank you, Gayle.

What a great read! It’s easy, feel-good and relatable. While each main character has a unique personality, we all know someone who is like them. Kudos to the author on her first novel - waiting patiently for the sequel! 😉
