"And then there was pain again, but this time it was in only three places—his arm, below his clavicle, and next to his heart, all on the left side. It felt like the skin was being sliced apart, ripped open, flayed off— And suddenly it was done. Derek looked across the room and saw the boy on the floor, looking about as bad as Derek felt."
Derek and Stiles learn that bonding is probably best done with ridiculous amounts of video games and maybe a little bit of time.
Derek and Paige have been together for almost ten years and they are about to engage. Their plans are ruined when Derek and Stiles bond at Cora's party. Derek and Stiles have to adapt to fate, so they try to find a way to work out their situation.
The bond may choose our mate, but we choose how to be with our mate.
It's a really good slow burn. Shame there was no on page sex.
Bonding usually happens to people between the ages of 19 and 24, if at all. That's why 27 yr old Derek is not at all prepared to bond with a 17 yr old high school student. Especially when it happens the day before he planned on proposing to his girlfriend, Paige. He doesn't take it well. He's a dick at first until he realizes the awesomeness that is Stiles, of course.
I really liked this one. I liked how Stiles and Derek's relationship developed slowly and how they balanced each other out. They're meant for each other.
I knew going in that there would be no on page sex so I shouldn't bitch about it. I shouldn't but I'm gonna because I MISSED it! Their bond was so strong, the strongest anybody had ever seen. I wanted to see how that translated to their love making. Stiles was a virgin and Derek had never been with a man. I mean COME ON! What a missed opportunity. This could've been beautiful and super hot but I'll never know because it was FADE. TO. FUCKING. BLACK. ughhh
Not canon at all as far as I can tell. Derek and Stiles meet at a party and experience the sudden, almost violent, formation of deep bonding marks cut into each of them. Derek has to break up with his almost-fiancée Paige, and he and Stiles slowly, slowly get to know each other. I really enjoyed it.
I really loved this slightly different sterek verse. Characterisation was great as was the blooming romance. Not read this author before so will ahve to watch out for more from them.
In this world there are no werewolves, only humans. But 30% of the population bonds with their soul mate. It doesn’t happen to everyone and it mostly happens between the ages of 17 and 25.
Derek is 26, engaged to Paige and pretty happy with his life. That is until he runs into 17 year old Stiles at a party. They look into each other’s eyes and the bond flares to life. They each get three marks that symbolize their bond to each other.
It appears they are in class of their own. Their bond is so strong that Derek can feel Stiles’ feelings. Stiles has trouble being physically away from Derek. He gets headaches and nosebleeds when Derek is not around.
Both not too happy at the prospect of bonding with each other, they try to make the most of it. They both know there is no getting out of it.
This started out as one of the best Stereks I’ve ever read. A long fic with a slow burning romance, just my kind of book!
But I had a feeling that the author didn’t quite know where to go halfway through. The story kind of stalled there.
I was hoping for massive amounts of hot Sterek sex after the great build up and sexual tension. Can you imagine my surprise when the sex is entirely off page! I felt cheated. It played such a big role in this story that I was eagerly awaiting all the hot ways for Stiles and Derek to connect and to make their bond even deeper. But no… I wasn’t invited to the party.
I couldn’t believe it. Me was sad!
I was also sad that after everything Stiles and Derek went through together they still said to be ‘just dating' at the end of the book. I wanted something more.
While I enjoyed a majority of this fic, it did tend to drag a bit. By the time it got around to the end I wasn't sure what exactly the climax was supposed to be. It sorta just rolled to a slow stop. I loved the premise, though. I'm a big fan of soul mate fics. And I think the author did a good job of creating a believable Derek with no family-burned-alive problems.
However...
Why were they not allowed to tell people they were bonded? That made absolutely no sense in context with this world. They can't break the bound. What use does hiding it accomplish other than creating annoying scenes with Cora and everyone else?
And the who Beserker thing. I felt like the author came to the end of the story and then suddenly realized they had brought up this whole Beserker plotline at the beginning and forgot about it for 200 pages so they just threw in the protests at the end to cover up the failed subplot. It had zero affect on the story, and seemed like an unnecessary thing to tack on at the end.
This is a very good story. This is a Sterek fanfiction story. For those of you that don't know...Sterek fanfic is based off 2 male characters, Stiles and Derek, from the TV show Teen Wolf. In the show they're both heterosexual but some viewers have fantasized about them together in a m/m relationship and thus Sterek was born. This story wasn't based around the TV show. Everyone is human in this story but around 30% of the population will form a "bond" with another and it's usually an intimate/sexual/relationship type thing.
When the story begins, Derek is 26 years old and Stiles is 17. They don't know each other and Derek lives in Sacramento and is getting ready to leave on a Hawaiian vacation with Paige. Derek and Paige been together since high school and are planning to get engaged on their vacation. The night before they leave, Laura convinces them to be chaperons for Cora's end of summer/back to school party. At the party, Derek and Stiles basically just have a meeting of eyes and they bond (with no input or accent from either party). Paige is a doctor that's specializing in bonding and so she realizes what's going on and is supportive, even if she can't help but be hurt by the fact that it basically ended her and Derek's relationship. Derek isn't so understanding at first and isn't happy to have his life (which was all set) suddenly upended and changed completely. Thankfully, although Derek is a bit of a jerk about it when it happens, he soon changes his tune and give Stiles a chance (thanks mostly to Paige).
Things between Derek and Stiles start slowly. There's a privacy clause for the bonding and the bonded pair are supposed to be together for 6-9 months before the official bonding registration (which is more binding than marriage). Because of the secrecy clause, Derek and Stiles have to keep their growing relationship secret from most people and it doesn't make things easy. Because Stiles is underage and with the shock of the life changing events, Derek and Stiles take things slow but their bond is very strong so it causes issues when they're too far away from each other so it helps push them together which in turn helps them to get to know each other. The more they know, the more they fall for each other and without too much angst they reach the point where they're solidly together and end the story happily starting on their HEA.
This was a very enjoyable story. I liked Stiles and Derek but really I liked all the characters and how they all interacted together. The story wasn't action packed but it was interesting and there was enough going on to keep me interested (although what little sex there was faded to black). Overall, I enjoyed this story very much. :D
This is always a comfort read for me. It's friendship, and family, and slow burn romance. Since I'm down with a cold, it's the perfect antidote. Love the premise and the interaction between all the characters, and I really love Charlie and Lola...oh and Bitty Boyd. Just all the warm fuzzies.
One of my favorites. There is no shifter, but a whole Hale family. Sweet story, little angst; I can see where a second one could happen. No real sexy scenes, but cute.
Was looking forward to reading this, I mean, forced bonding soulmate marks can't help ourselves love grows type thing? Usually spot fucking on, but eeeh. OOC-ness abounds, characterisation is a bit awkward (people explaining their behaviour/character in dialogue instead of talking/acting), and well, I think I've also been spoiled by crazy good stereks lately, so, maybe just not the right time to be reading this.
Slow burn is totally fine, but this needed much more plot/ conflict to move the story along. Scenes were also generally bogged down with too much detail, repetition and filler: another reason why this dragged so much. What I didn't get was why they wouldn't meet regularly when it physically hurts Stiles to be separated?
I am speechless, the whole plot was perfect. I felt a bit bad for poor Paige, but then in the original I do too. I loved how the marks grow as their feelings grow. Of course Sterek would be one of the strongest pairings. <3
