The Last Dracul: A Dark Tragic Romantasy

Rate this book
In the Arcadian realm, power is lethal, desire is a weapon, and love is not salvation, but sacrifice.

Cursed and hunted, Julia loses her memory and gets caught in a portal. Separated from her sworn protector, Shane, she's deposited into the hands of lycans who would kill her if they knew the truth of who she was.
Ruled by a sadistic empress with an insatiable desire for power, the lycans have lost the ability to find their fated mates, putting their race in jeopardy. In the hope of forging mate bonds, the empress creates an experimental drug and secretly uses Julia as the first test subject. Bound by magic, Julia is coerced into a bond with Lucius, a charming lycan whose touch feels both confusing and dangerously right.
However, another pull tugs at her soul—a fated connection she doesn’t understand and can’t resist.
Julia must escape the palace to find Shane, a man she can barely recall, who will hopefully be the key to unlocking her memory and saving the realm.

"If I had only one breath remaining, I would breathe my essence into your lungs so that I could die knowing that a piece of me will carry on with you for eternity."

This is a dark romance that will emotionally ruin you and seriously make you question your taste in men. There are three main love interests and I spent the entire book just as torn as Julia. I would love them, then hate them, then love them again. It got to the point where I wanted to throw the book across the room… fully aware I would have to crawl across the floor five minutes later to pick it back up.
The story throws you straight into the chaos at the start. You are confused, disoriented, and trying to make sense of everything right alongside Julia. As the world slowly unravels, what you are left with is a rich, powerful story grounded in legacy, fate, heartache, and creatures. Werewolves, lycans, vampires… yes please. It was an easy read that was also complex and deep.
The characters are messy in the best way. Complicated. Flawed. Human... even though none of them are human. Julia frustrated me in the way some of my best friends do (like girl make some better life decisions and pick the man I want you to end up with!). And some of the side characters? I was borderline obsessed.
And then the ending.
The ENDING.
It escalates fast, punches you in the chest, and does not go where you think it will. I went in expecting a HEA. Do not make my mistake. Go in emotionally prepared. Another reviewer said Romeo and Juliet vibes and that's exactly where my mind went. Ancient romantic tragedy wrapped in a modern romantasy shell. Love, fate, and loss in their most dramatic form.
Also, again can I just say, the men. The men. These are not just “book boyfriends.” It goes beyond that into full emotional damage territory. The tension, the longing, the spice… you will be thinking about certain scenes in detail long after you close the book.
You will laugh. You will cry. You will fantasise. You will consider launching the book across the room and then immediately take it back. All of my work colleagues have heard about this book. My mother... let's keep her away from the spice. This is absolutely a reread for me, which is rare and says everything.
If you want safe, soft romance, this is not it. If you want to feel slightly deranged and emotionally unwell in the best way, welcome. Enjoy the ride.

Book Title and Author Name: The Last Dracul by Miranda Chase
Genre: Romantic Fantasy, Fantasy Fiction, Magical Memory Loss
Book Setting: Kinda Present Time on Earth, But Also in a Magical Realm, our Girl kind of Timeline hops via portals.
Introduce the main characters: Julia is our FMC; she was cursed and has amnesia. The conqueror, Bad Boy Lycan, has a back story.
Describe the storyline in general terms: Julia is living on earth with Shane, she has amnesia and has no idea who she truly is. When she's sucked into a portal and dropped on the doorstep of Psyco lady, who shall not be named. We follow along with her as she's put to the test and discovers her identity and history. While fighting her feelings for someone she should not want.
How was the book set out? The book follows along with our FMC as she and all the obstacles that are thrown her way, while she is literally dumped in a hornet's nest and truly has no idea how much danger she is in.
What did you like about the book? I honestly liked a lot about this book; this was my first book by the author, and I feel it was a nice, quick read. The characters are messy with all the human emotions that you yourself experience
What would have made it better? I believe it was well written, action-packed, and we did end on a bit of a cliffhanger, just patiently waiting for book 2. It started a little iffy in the begin but I stuck with it, and it was well worth the read.
What didn’t I enjoy about the book? If you read any of my other reviews, then you already know where I'm headed. Your Girl is an EMPATHY, and I want to keep all the characters, but that doesn't help the story progress or the characters to grow. Two characters die, and I'm still pouting about that.
Would you read another book by this author? Most definitely, have a read. If you enjoy - Fated Mates • Tragic Love • Forced Bond • Star Crossed Lovers • Love Square • Beautifully Devastating • Forbidden Love
Your star rating.

The Last Dracul is unapologetically dark, tragic, and daring and that’s exactly why it works. Miranda Chase delivers a story that feels genuinely unique in a genre that often plays it safe. This is a romance steeped in yearning and heartbreak, layered with multiple MMC love interests (love square). Every connection is heavy with tension, loss, and impossible choices, and the emotional weight hits hard because the author isn’t afraid to take risks… and those risks pay off. The world is rich and chaotic with enticing characters consisting of vampires, shifters and lycans. The multiple POVs are what make everything click, giving depth to each character and allowing the tragedy to unfold from every angle. You feel the longing, the darkness, and the inevitability threaded through the story. This is not a light or comforting read. It’s moody, intense, and emotionally charged, with themes that lean into the darker and crueler parts of fate, rather than away from them. If you love dark romantasy and a story that isn’t afraid to hurt you a little (or a lot), The Last Dracul is absolutely worth picking up. I received an advanced review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Oh holy hell!!!! I wanted to give this a 4.5 however, Goodreads doesn't allow half stars. So hell yes it is five!!!! This was a whole a** vibe. It is definitely a book you cant put down. It is on the spectrum of being on the darker side, so take note. It is not feint of the heart. You will feel very immersed into the story. It has you going through the feels. When I wasn't busy with my home life all I wanted to do was read this book. There were a few things that I guessed, however, the confusion was fun to piece together. Also, I am a girly for MPV. So as dark as this was it was very thrilling. I was so engrossed. I couldn't wait. There may have been a few times where a family member asked me what was going on, my mood matched three book! I could imagine the atmosphere, angst, turmoil& heartbreak. Miranda Chase did wonders. There was a brief moment where if felt like it was dragging, however, it'll all make sense. I can't wait to see where this ends up. I did recieve this from the Author. I am voluntarily writing this review. I will also be purchasing this....Duh I need a book trophy! Seriously all. Give it ago, it may just wreck you!

This was one of my best reads of the year by FAR - FANTASTIC read. The setting, the characters, the plot, all of it - the build up, the world-building, the spice, the romance, the turns and twists, but JMFC that ending!!!!!? What the emotional damage was that twist?! I didn’t see that coming at all even with the warning and it being in the genre of dark romantic tragedy - just….. wtf?! - that’s not cool - I need at least a second book ASAP (though more would be amazing) and some crazy big ritual/way to fix that lol or something because I refuse to believe that’s where the story ends for the main characters or their friends - I have to pray and hope that there’s a plan for future books and plots lol - literally DESTROYED me emotionally with that ending - like made my soul and heart cry out in pain empathizing with Titus most of all I think but Lucius and Shane and everyone else too in their own ways.

Gods it was sooo good bur those last few chapters - you’re gonna want like at least a FULL box of tissues and some comfort foods/blankets/partner to cuddle with/hot bath, SOMETHING cause damn that hurt lol.

Is it okay to love and hate something?

Let's just say that how you think it is going to end is wrong. Oh you want to think something else so normal? Nope wrong again.
Know how to mates are going to play out? Nope, that's wrong.
Know how the last 100 pages are going to play out? Yeah I thought so too.

I was so pulled in to this book, I couldn't put it down. PLUS, the ending left room for another story, but didn't leave you with a million question. Everything was wrapped so nicely in a perfect little bow that **<3 chefs kiss**
The only thing I would say, the beginning of the book makes you feel like you are reading book 2 instead of book 1, but as the book is going along it's clear that was written that way to make you feel the same way the FMC felt, how to Side MMC felt. I am so happy this came across my FYP, but kind of upset that I didn't pay for it.
I will definitely be buying a physical copy to put on my wall of honor. Such a good read.

Warning: If you get emotional...skip the last 100 pages.

First this was a wild and crazy roller coaster of a book! I loved how the author had threw you in and you picked up the pieces as the character did, which made it so much more fun! Also agree if you want a happy ending, than you need a different book because that ending broke my heart into a million pieces! It gave me the feels of Romeo and Juliet with a twist. However, I hate to admit but it did get boring and tedious toward the middle. It felt like the book was dragging and didn't make much thrive till you got towards the end. I am curious though of where book two will be going, especially when your past comes around and might bite you in the a**. Overall, I loved the story and writing style, I look forward to book 2.

This was a dark emotional ride from the start to finish. The book is a easy read but the intriguing complexity of it all wraps it up nicely. There is a history of all the main characters that makes it complicated, and the feeling of being torn between doing the right thing and doing what they want sits tight all the way. Felt a bit slow in the middle but then she slam dunks it right home with an insane ending. After this read I feel satisfied. Be aware of all the triggerwarnings on this one, also its a spicy read for those who enjoys that, but can be easily skipped if it gets too much. All in all a good read for dark supernatural romance readers, but be aware it is a telling of tragedy it will bite you and you will hurt, but you will love it anyway.

From the very first page, this story completely pulled me in and never let go. The concept of fated mates is handled in such a unique way that it stands out from anything I’ve read before. I found myself constantly torn, unsure of who I wanted Julia to end up with, which made the emotional stakes feel even higher.
This isn’t just a romance, it’s an emotional journey that really digs deep. There were moments that genuinely gutted me, the kind that linger long after you’ve put the book down. And yet, despite the heartbreak, it somehow leaves you craving more rather than feeling drained.
If you’re looking for a story that keeps you hooked, challenges your expectations, and delivers a powerful emotional impact, this one absolutely delivers.

Fated mates but with spells and a whole lot of betrayal

Julia doesnt know who she is suffering from memory loss and trapped in a castle she accidentally drove into the wrong driveway and the people who live there are ruled by a divious queen . The queen puts her on a experimental drug that makes her feel like shes found her mate but all isnt what is seems their is her guard who she feels pulled to his brother that shes falling for and her traveling companion who she arrived with. A ton of crazy things happen while shes at the palace and the ending is not what you think is coming at all . Hidden identitys prophecys and some magic spells mess a ton of things up for these shifters and cross breeds and even vampires in this crazy tale

I want to start by saying I read this in a little over 24 hours—I was completely hooked! I read a lot of romantasy, and this was unlike anything I’ve read before. The unique storyline kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time. I loved how the plot constantly had me thinking about what might happen next and how it would all end. I found myself switching back and forth on who I was rooting for Julia to end up with, which made the experience even more fun. I loved each character at different points and disliked them at others—it truly was a rollercoaster of emotions. That ending had me shook! I cannot wait for book two!

This was such a good read and well there is a lot to it. I mean you have Vampires, Lycans, Wolves, and well fated mates everywhere. I will be honest that a lot was thrown at you in the beginning but as the storyline makes progress you start to understand what is going on. I was rooting for all the characters but in the end you do find those that you will connect with the most. This is not a HEA but for me it made for an interesting ending. Miranda did a fantastic job for this being her debut novel. I can't wait to see what what happens next because I have questions!!!

Worth the read

So many why’s! All good though. This book was great and I couldn’t put it down. I need more, and a book that leaves you wanting more of it is a great book to me. It is full of characters you’ll love and characters you’ll love to hate! The story was captivating and the spice, there is plenty. The devastating part is the heartbreak and sadness you’ll have to endure through this tragic tale.

If you want a good fantasy book with magic, wolves, lycan and vampires give this one a read for sure. I finished this book in a day I couldn’t put it down.

5☆, It's your fantasy book with lycans, wolves, vampires and humans altogether in one world, it has good versus evil and those stuck in the middle, you have the evil that has taken over and needs to be overruled and then ... ugh... you have the falling in love with characters and their love stories but certain things in the story that have to be done lead to certain consequences that leave you completely emotionally shattered. 💔

Nope.

Went to this book bc I saw an ad for it on tiktok claiming there was a scene like the cafeteria scene from A Walk to Remember. I don’t love wolf/shifter romances but that intrigued me. Not only is there not a scene like that at all in this book but the writing, the romance, and the character development leave a lot to be desired. Disappointed is an understatement. Don’t false advertise.

This book
.. this freaking book.

I had favorites, I had desired outcomes, and I had high hopes. What I didn't have? Any idea that I'd be left wandering through customs in another country, staring blankly at the lines because I was still mentally reeling from that ending!!

There is no HEA or feel good moment. This book is everything you could hope for when you ask for a romantic tragedy!

No HEA…
BUT it is so worth the read!! It’s so beautifully written and the characters and plot just draw you in and don’t let you go! It’s a dark tragedy but there are funny moments and moments that caused me to roll my eyes or huff in disgust at the villain… The plot twist definitely twists and it’s just so casual but beautifully executed. Will definitely be rereading this one!!!

Okay, this was soooo good! Though there isn’t a HEA and it’s a bit dark at times, it had a great mix of characters and quite a few funny moments. If you love portal fantasies, werewolves, vampires, and multiple hot guys, then this is for you!

No happily ever after. Honestly read for the "Landon Carter" vibes. I didnt see a strong resemblance in the characters but the heartbreaking yet fulfilling conclusion felt like his story.

Oh my goodness. This the best fantasy I have read in a while. I am actively sobbing and writing this with blurry vision but I fully recommend those of you that don’t want a happy ending to run full throttle at this book. My chest literally hurts, she took my heart right out and cracked it open like an egg she was frying. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I picked up The Last Dracul mostly on a whim after seeing quotes from the author on TikTok and went in completely blind. What I did not realize going in? This is a romantic tragedy. That didn’t stop me from reading it cover to cover in a single day.

The romance is a true slow burn. Nothing feels rushed, and every interaction builds on the last, getting more intense each time. By the end, I felt exactly how the author wanted me to feel about every character… or at least I think so.

Emotionally, I was not okay… but also not destroyed. More like quietly wrecked. The kind where your vision is blurred because you’re crying, but you’re still fully locked into the moment. The ending took me by surprise, but it felt satisfying in a painful, intentional way.
