The Last Dracul

Rate this book
In the Arcadian realm, power is lethal, desire is a weapon, and love is not salvation, but sacrifice.

Cursed and hunted, Julia loses her memory and gets caught in a portal. Separated from her sworn protector, Shane, she's deposited into the hands of lycans who would kill her if they knew the truth of who she was.
Ruled by a sadistic empress with an insatiable desire for power, the lycans have lost the ability to find their fated mates, putting their race in jeopardy. In the hope of forging mate bonds, the empress creates an experimental drug and secretly uses Julia as the first test subject. Bound by magic, Julia is coerced into a bond with Lucius, a charming lycan whose touch feels both confusing and dangerously right.
However, another pull tugs at her soul—a fated connection she doesn’t understand and can’t resist.
Julia must escape the palace to find Shane, a man she can barely recall, who will hopefully be the key to unlocking her memory and saving the realm.

"If I had only one breath remaining, I would breathe my essence into your lungs so that I could die knowing that a piece of me will carry on with you for eternity."

This is a dark romance that will emotionally ruin you and seriously make you question your taste in men. There are three main love interests and I spent the entire book just as torn as Julia. I would love them, then hate them, then love them again. It got to the point where I wanted to throw the book across the room… fully aware I would have to crawl across the floor five minutes later to pick it back up.
The story throws you straight into the chaos at the start. You are confused, disoriented, and trying to make sense of everything right alongside Julia. As the world slowly unravels, what you are left with is a rich, powerful story grounded in legacy, fate, heartache, and creatures. Werewolves, lycans, vampires… yes please. It was an easy read that was also complex and deep.
The characters are messy in the best way. Complicated. Flawed. Human... even though none of them are human. Julia frustrated me in the way some of my best friends do (like girl make some better life decisions and pick the man I want you to end up with!). And some of the side characters? I was borderline obsessed.
And then the ending.
The ENDING.
It escalates fast, punches you in the chest, and does not go where you think it will. I went in expecting a HEA. Do not make my mistake. Go in emotionally prepared. Another reviewer said Romeo and Juliet vibes and that's exactly where my mind went. Ancient romantic tragedy wrapped in a modern romantasy shell. Love, fate, and loss in their most dramatic form.
Also, again can I just say, the men. The men. These are not just “book boyfriends.” It goes beyond that into full emotional damage territory. The tension, the longing, the spice… you will be thinking about certain scenes in detail long after you close the book.
You will laugh. You will cry. You will fantasise. You will consider launching the book across the room and then immediately take it back. All of my work colleagues have heard about this book. My mother... let's keep her away from the spice. This is absolutely a reread for me, which is rare and says everything.
If you want safe, soft romance, this is not it. If you want to feel slightly deranged and emotionally unwell in the best way, welcome. Enjoy the ride.

The Last Dracul is unapologetically dark, tragic, and daring and that’s exactly why it works. Miranda Chase delivers a story that feels genuinely unique in a genre that often plays it safe. This is a romance steeped in yearning and heartbreak, layered with multiple MMC love interests (love square). Every connection is heavy with tension, loss, and impossible choices, and the emotional weight hits hard because the author isn’t afraid to take risks… and those risks pay off. The world is rich and chaotic with enticing characters consisting of vampires, shifters and lycans. The multiple POVs are what make everything click, giving depth to each character and allowing the tragedy to unfold from every angle. You feel the longing, the darkness, and the inevitability threaded through the story. This is not a light or comforting read. It’s moody, intense, and emotionally charged, with themes that lean into the darker and crueler parts of fate, rather than away from them. If you love dark romantasy and a story that isn’t afraid to hurt you a little (or a lot), The Last Dracul is absolutely worth picking up. I received an advanced review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Oh holy hell!!!! I wanted to give this a 4.5 however, Goodreads doesn't allow half stars. So hell yes it is five!!!! This was a whole a** vibe. It is definitely a book you cant put down. It is on the spectrum of being on the darker side, so take note. It is not feint of the heart. You will feel very immersed into the story. It has you going through the feels. When I wasn't busy with my home life all I wanted to do was read this book. There were a few things that I guessed, however, the confusion was fun to piece together. Also, I am a girly for MPV. So as dark as this was it was very thrilling. I was so engrossed. I couldn't wait. There may have been a few times where a family member asked me what was going on, my mood matched three book! I could imagine the atmosphere, angst, turmoil& heartbreak. Miranda Chase did wonders. There was a brief moment where if felt like it was dragging, however, it'll all make sense. I can't wait to see where this ends up. I did recieve this from the Author. I am voluntarily writing this review. I will also be purchasing this....Duh I need a book trophy! Seriously all. Give it ago, it may just wreck you!

First this was a wild and crazy roller coaster of a book! I loved how the author had threw you in and you picked up the pieces as the character did, which made it so much more fun! Also agree if you want a happy ending, than you need a different book because that ending broke my heart into a million pieces! It gave me the feels of Romeo and Juliet with a twist. However, I hate to admit but it did get boring and tedious toward the middle. It felt like the book was dragging and didn't make much thrive till you got towards the end. I am curious though of where book two will be going, especially when your past comes around and might bite you in the a**. Overall, I loved the story and writing style, I look forward to book 2.

This was a dark emotional ride from the start to finish. The book is a easy read but the intriguing complexity of it all wraps it up nicely. There is a history of all the main characters that makes it complicated, and the feeling of being torn between doing the right thing and doing what they want sits tight all the way. Felt a bit slow in the middle but then she slam dunks it right home with an insane ending. After this read I feel satisfied. Be aware of all the triggerwarnings on this one, also its a spicy read for those who enjoys that, but can be easily skipped if it gets too much. All in all a good read for dark supernatural romance readers, but be aware it is a telling of tragedy it will bite you and you will hurt, but you will love it anyway.

I want to start by saying I read this in a little over 24 hours—I was completely hooked! I read a lot of romantasy, and this was unlike anything I’ve read before. The unique storyline kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time. I loved how the plot constantly had me thinking about what might happen next and how it would all end. I found myself switching back and forth on who I was rooting for Julia to end up with, which made the experience even more fun. I loved each character at different points and disliked them at others—it truly was a rollercoaster of emotions. That ending had me shook! I cannot wait for book two!

This was such a good read and well there is a lot to it. I mean you have Vampires, Lycans, Wolves, and well fated mates everywhere. I will be honest that a lot was thrown at you in the beginning but as the storyline makes progress you start to understand what is going on. I was rooting for all the characters but in the end you do find those that you will connect with the most. This is not a HEA but for me it made for an interesting ending. Miranda did a fantastic job for this being her debut novel. I can't wait to see what what happens next because I have questions!!!

5☆, It's your fantasy book with lycans, wolves, vampires and humans altogether in one world, it has good versus evil and those stuck in the middle, you have the evil that has taken over and needs to be overruled and then ... ugh... you have the falling in love with characters and their love stories but certain things in the story that have to be done lead to certain consequences that leave you completely emotionally shattered. 💔

Tragic, beautiful, all around great read! The banter, the longing, the spice scenes, the storyline-well done! I really enjoyed reading this story! It challenged my morality, brought new elements into a fantasy while keeping sight of all the things I love in one!

Now this is how you do it!

Finally an author who understands the assignment and gives us pure perfection.

I’m obsessed and hope the next installment is just as great as the first.

Oh my goodness. This the best fantasy I have read in a while. I am actively sobbing and writing this with blurry vision but I fully recommend those of you that don’t want a happy ending to run full throttle at this book. My chest literally hurts, she took my heart right out and cracked it open like an egg she was frying. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
